  2. I wonder if some graphics whiz could please give an aged gamer some "dummies guide" support to using DSR with Skyrim SE?

    My kit:

Acer 21:9 1080x2560 Predator Screen Gsync compatible. 6GB Vram.

    Nvidia GTX980Ti

Buckets of RAM and a good Win 10 PC behind it all.

Skyrim on SSD away from program files, etc.

    Load o' mods.

I would love to experiment with DSR out of interest. OK, it might be a waste of time, but I'd like to know how it can be made to work.

I tried using the awful G-Force Experience utility, but that wants to optimise all my game: no thank you.

The NVidia Control Panel only has DSR options for Global Settings tab, they do not show up in me Skyrim SE tab. The Global Settings have percentages but nothing seems to happen if I apply them.

I have NVidia Profile software, too.

I tried tinkering these but just got stuck, suffered central brain stem meltdown, and gave up.

    In hope and thank you!

Didn't tried it with Skyrim SE, but with other games it works this way - you set DSR Factors in nVidia control panel (on the Global Settins tab), and then you will be able select higher resolution in your game options.

.why hasn't modding the Witcher caught on?

I believe it's because tools are still VERY user-unfriendly, and even if you figure out how to use them, you are very limited at what you can do with them. You can play around with game mechanics, you can edit visuals, but that's all. You can't make new areas, you can't make new quests, etc... No doubt there's no so much active modders as in Skyrim or Fallout communities.

  4. Hm that's a lot to expect. I understand the Witcher is adapted from a series of novels but I do hate having to scour tie-in material to get the full picture.

For me (and almost anyone who knew about a book series before the first game came out), games always were a tie-in material for the books

Hopefully CDPR gives us a choice of character customisation, inc. gender, for their next big project.

I'm looking forward for their Cyberpunk game. And I think they have no reason not to implement character customisation in it.

I think their only problem is not being able to optimize games properly....

But you should also remember, that they actually work to optimize their games. I remember when TW1 came out - terrible load times, constant crashes and lag. After they patched it Enhanced Edition (and it was FREE update) - all this problems were fixed.

Same was with TW2. Initially I played it on low-medium settings, after all the patches I was able to play it on medium and some setting on high at solid 30 FPS (I've had a quite old PC at that time).

We'll see how things will go with TW3. I'm sure after they release 2nd DLC we'll get some more patches which (hopefully) will optimize the game.

    <offtop>

I've noticed, that most users usually can't tell the difference between high and ultra settings in most games. But if game doesn't provide solid 60FPS on ultra (but runs perfectly on high) they scream that it's not optimized at all.

    Now on the subject.

The Witcher 3 is a great game. Story, characters, locations, top-level graphics, quests, player choices and their consequences - this game have everything.

I can understand why some people don't get involved in the story - to fully enjoy this game, you MUST read 7 books and play Withcer 1&2. If you don't - you'll miss a LOT of fun. But it was expected, TW 1&2 had the same issue - you'll NEVER fully enjoy them, if you don't read the books they're based on. It never was a problem for me, I wasa huge fan of the Witcher books long before the first game came out.

Fallout was my favorite game series of all time... before it fell to Beth's hands. I'm really dissappointed in FO4 (even more than I was with FO3). I was expecting a proper RPG, I thought that they'll learn at least something from Obsidian (FNV was quite good). But no, they decided that FO should be a dumb action game with RPG elements, and not a proper RPG like it was in past. I'm sure that if they've not called it FO4, but something like Fallout: Shooter - there would be far less pissed off players.

In the end, The Witcher 3 is a far better game.

The only thing which FO4 does better - modding support.

You can beat all 3 campaigns like in 2 weeks if you play real slow, than what?

It actually took me 3 weeks to finish WoL and 2 weeks for HotS. I don't have much time to play games these days :(

    Replay value is almost zero?

This is true to 95% of single-player games which are not RPGs. You play them, you finish them, you forget about them.

  7.

Why Blizzard put so much effort and time in creating all this? For campaign which you finish in few evenings and forget as if it never happened? Players buying and appreciating this game for MP, which is basically perfect e-Sport, most of gameplay hours sink in there, not short generic campaigns.

They did it to please players like me, who don't care about MP and all this "e-sport" stuff, but want a solid SP campaign.

  8. It's hard to pick all-time favorite, so I'll just list some in no particular order

    Fallout 2 (I hate time-limit in the 1st)

    Planescape: Tourment

Star Wars: KotOR 2: The Sith Lords

    Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines

The Witcher 1 (didn't played 3 yet, so can't say anynthing about it, but for my taste 1st was far better than 2nd)

    Deus Ex 1

Dragon Age: Origins (didn't played Inquisition, but DA2 sucks)

  9. im going to make mods starting today...but its gonna be difficult to learn. i can already model and the likes, but its illegal to use armors and the likes from other games (it violates terms of use both on nexus and on steam)

But IIRC it's usually OK if you re-create them from scratch
