  1. Perraine,

No offense, but are you sure (you kind of implied that you weren't) that Lydia will auto-level? I do believe I have the latest patches...so, it might not be necessary to reset her?

How would I tell if she needs leveling or what level she currently is, for that matter?

I got interested in this because she seems a bit weak lately. Maybe that's just because the enemies we face are stronger.

I give her healing and stamina potions, and sometimes she uses them and sometimes she doesn't.

I also...after reading the UESP wiki...took away her two handed weapons and equipped her with a 1H glass ax and a dwarven HA shield. But she was potent in the early levels with two handed, she doesn't seem nearly so one handed. I understood that she had a max level of 50.

What and where is the NPC editor?

I got a small manual with my boxed set and if I recall it did mention f5. that's how I found out about it.

  2. MacSuibne that is correct. When in Console Command click on Lydia, so in effect you would have to be in close range of her. When you click a person or object their refid will show in console then you can manipulate use commands.

    Thank you for that.

None of this is mentioned in manual in the manual that comes with the game. I did find it on UESP wiki once I knew what to look for, but for a newlie, it's almost more complicated that trying to play Skyrim as a mage.

Let me ask one more question...as mentioned above I teamed with Lydia at level 9 or so. I'm now at 22. If I level her up will she come up to level 22 as well? And be more effective in a fight? How will she benefit from leveling up?

Again thank you for your time and generosity.

  3. Rooker,

See, I don't understand the sequence "open the console and click on her..." Do you mean that you need to be facing Lydia as if speaking to her, then open the console then click back on her image and then type the command?

I'm a newb...I admit it. But I would appreciate some help with this 'cuz I like having Lydia around...but I've not used the console before at all.

  4. NPCs have a "class" (eg., 1handwarrior, 2handwarrior, sorcerer, battlemage, etc.) that determines their skill levels and determine which skills improve more during each level up.

Each class has a RefID, which you can look up on http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Classes . In Lydia's case, it's 13176 (1handwarrior). If you open the console, click on her and type setclass 13176, it will level her stats properly without the need to dismiss/disable her. You'll need to do that every time you level up. Works for all followers, just make sure to use the correct Class RefID.

Now that Beth is finished making sure to show us kill animations for random arrow shots and fireballs that we can't disable without a mod, I wish they'd fix this ridiculous bug so we don't have to monkey around in the console every time we level up.

I hope I can ask this question without throwing the discussion off course and still get an answer...

My question is, how do you know if Lydia needs to be leveled up? If I'm reading you right, this needs to happen right from the start and often.

I first took on Lydia at about level 9. I am now at 22 and have never leveled her because I don't like to mess with the console.

Is there some signs in here behaviour or skill set that indicate she is lagging and needs to step up?

And finally do I understand that for Lydia specifically, the console command is setclass 13176? Nothing else and the same command whether today at my level 22 or somewhere down the road at level 30, say?

  5. sounds like a glitch or maybe a mod you installed changed something retroactive.

a buff is a temporary boost of an character-attribute like strenght ( 20 + strenght for 20 seconds for example)

    Thanks.

As I mentioned in the OP, I have a ring that confers +10% health and a necklace that boots stamina 20%. But that's it.

    I don't run any mods.

  6. probably might wanna check your

    A) buffs on equiptment

    b) blessings, potion effect etc

    I don't know what a "buff" is.

There are no blessings that i know of. I check items>Magic>Active Effects and I see none.

I don't enter beast form much if at all. Either I've just never learned to fight him or he's just about worthless against magic or heavily armoured bad guys.

I'm just wondering if this bump in the health and satmina is a glitch that will affect game play.

  7. I am a werewolf, have been since about level 5. I am now level 22. Recently, at about level 20, I noticed that both my health and stamina had mysteriously jumped up about 100 points. Currently, I'm running about 220 for health and 230 for stamina.

As far as I can tell I am not a vampire (thought lycanthropy conferred immunity to vampirism ?). I do wear a ring and a necklace that offer some boost in health and stamina but not 100 points.

Nothing else seems to be amiss but the trouble is I don't feel like I have much more stamina or health than I did when I was at 120 for each. I'm still getting beat up and I'm watching that green bar go to zero within a very few swings of my battle axe. And it seems it takes more health potions to come back to snuff.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

  8. Thanks for the reply.

I could, I suppose just have her wait. that works. But even though I know she may not need sleep (do NPC's need sleep?) it worries me. I wonder if her "attitude" might not just be lack of sleep.

And for the purposes of "immersion" it would be a little better to know she was actually getting some rest and not just standing there.

  9. I think I'm missing something...when I tell Lydia to" "sleep here" I don't seem to be able to do anything else but wait for her. If she lies down and I try to tab out of the dialogue in order to do some nocturnal exploring, she immediately gets up. If, after she has settled in, I tell her to "wait there" she gets up and waits...doesn't sleep, in other words.

As long as the "I-need-you-to-do-something" dialogue is open, anything I do she thinks I want her to do. I leave her to sleep and go to close the door...she gets up to close the door.

Why won't she follow instructions?! She doesn't listen.

I don't know how to offer her a nights sleep without waiting in the room with her. And of course since we're not married...well, what will the neighbors think?

  10. I think all spawns stay the same, as should the levels of the enemies spawned. I could be wrong, maybe the game takes it into consideration when you're solo or with a group.

As for limits... if you're on the PC... there's UFO and other mods that allow you to have more than the stock number of followers.

    Thank you for the response.

Am I correct that you can have one follower and one hireling? Or is a hireling considered a follower?

    Tioraidh

  11. So...unless I am reading the UESP wiki wrong it looks like you can hire a mercenary at the same time you have a follower.

    Is that correct?

Is there any limit to how many hirelings you can have?

Is there any downside? Do the quests spawn extra adversaries or more powerful ones if you have, say, a follower, two mercenaries and a dog with you when you enter a cave or fort, etc.?
