  1. Maybe this plugin needs to be updated to work with the latest version of NVSE ?

I think I noticed this once or twice but it was caused by me not having updated to the latest version of NVSE.

  2. Ok so SLI was the issue. It works now with SLI disabled.

    Thanks for your help.

Nice to know this, have you checked out nVidias website for this issue ?

They probably already know about it and are looking into a fix for a future driver pack release but it's good to double-check.

Both nVidia and AMD like to keep abreast of games that have issues with either the SLI or Crossfire configurations.

  3. k, I have noticed a few Antec true power 550basq on ebay currently $10 with between 1 day to 5 days left in there auctions...I might get lucky....

There is this nice little article over at Toms Hardware that was just posted today, you should review it any get an idea of the actual manufacturers and the various labels and brands out there ;)

    http://www.tomshardw...turer,2913.html

    EDIT1:

More info, another article on mainstream sub-$75.00 PS Units

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-psu-80-plus,2746.html

  4. That last line pretty much sums up what I think....

Hmmm, I understand your needing to go on the cheap, with PS Units you get what you pay for.

I have had very good luck with Antec, Cooler Master and Thermaltake units.

I have a Thermaltake 850 in my file server and an Antec Quad Power 1000 in my gaming rig.

No I'm not expecting you to purchase a $200.00 plus PS Unit, but you are going to need to spend more then $35 on a quality entry level model.

It does indeed sound like your 4850 is drawing more power then your older 7900gs card, just continue to use it for the time being and save up :)

  5. You are not wanting to get any cheap ps unit like your computer as I think this is why you are having problems now.

A quality PS Unit is going to be more in the $50 ~ 75 range for a 600 watt unit.

Getting cheap on something that is a key piece of your computer is going to be more expensive in the long run.

  6. That +12vdc rail is only rated at 14amps, not sure if that is enough including your graphics card too.

I would try using the onboard graphics for a few days of testing just to see, if this seems to work then reinstall the graphics cards and see if the problem comes back, this will then confirm the need for more power.

  7. I would first look at the PS Unit, especially since you use the AUTO overclock feature.

That 4870 is still going to draw a bit of power and if your generic PS Unit is not up to the task and the 12vdc rail is dropping below spec it will cause havoc.

What is the make/model of that PS Unit ???

  8. Are you stating that both of your brothers are running Windows Media Player machines ???

Are they both running the same kind, i.e., based on Windows XP or the newer version based on Vista/Windows 7 ?

I that that Windows 7 Pro and above have Media Center built in, not sure about Vista however.

I'm going to assume that both machines can run some games, is this correct ???

The way both of them could tell is to go to the Control Panel and open the System applet and note the Windows Version and Build Numbers.

For instance my Windows 7 Pro has a build number of 7600.

I think you can also click on the run option and in the open line type in cmd and click OK, now use the ver or version command to see the Windows Version and Build Number.

Also, can you find out if either of these machines are using the onboard graphics or a separate graphics card and which models they happen to be.

  9. Well, after installing a few mods, first the Beware of the Girl texture mod and then the following, I'm again having CTD's but they are not as often as they were.

    Also have these mods installed:

Electro City with Hiways and Byways

Level Cap 100 + Perks every level

    Epic Skills past 100

    Warzones

My guess is there is something happening with one of more of these mods that is causing some compatibility issues, could even be some sort of problem with the Dead Money DLC content perhaps.

I will be testing further with an eye towards disabling the Dead Money DLC content to see what happens.

  10. Ever since that patch, some of my saves seem to be corrupted and cause CTDs. Is this common?

I'm wondering the same thing too, this is why I'm testing things out with a fresh install and no previous saves and then trying out a single MOD/FOMOD at a time :)

  11. Well, since I was having more then normal crashes when the latest patch was applied, I decided to check and test things out.

I was having numerous CTD's and/or game freezes after this patch was applied and attempting to reload any of my save games.

    Here is what I did:

    1) Archived my entire save game directory and then deleted it.

    2) Uninstall/Deleted local game content from Steam, verified it was uninstalled from Programs Control Panel Applet too.

    3) Manually deleted the Fallout New Vegas folder including all my mods and tweaks etc....

    4) Ran Auslogics registry cleaner to verify any leftovers were removed and rebooted my gaming rig.

    5) Upon rebooting verified that Steam now showed Fallout New Vegas and not being installed and so promptly started downloading it.

    6) After downloading I confirmed the local file cache.

    7) Launched the game and reconfigured graphics settings and such and created a new toon.

8 ) After grabbing as much as I could from Doc Mitchell's place I headed out, non-hardcore mode.

    9) I promptly went over to the Saloon while grabbing from containers like mailboxes and crates etc...

    10) I then proceeded to go in and out of the saloon multiple times, both the front and side doors to see if anything was amiss or would hang/ctd, so far so good, knocks on wood ;)

Everything in vanilla seems to be fine, no apparent issues so far.

I then installed the latest FOMM v0.13.21 and checked for any load order updates, applied the update and then ran the BOSS load order, well there was nothing to do really as I only had the FalloutNV.esm and the DeadMoney.esm installed.

Made sure both were activated and launched the Fallout Loader and checked the settings again to verify nothing went astray.

Reloaded my save game and proceeded to test some more, in and out, in and out....talking to folks around town, selling to Chet in the General Store and back to Doc Mitchell as well.

I then ran through the tutorial quest with Sunny Smiles, so far so good, did the campfire side-quest too and rooted around inside the schoolhouse and cleared that out.

I love cracking safes and practice snapping all those bobby pins.

I will post more as I install one at a time mods and/or fomods to the game.

    EDIT1:

OK, installed and tested my first FOMOD, Beware of the Girl v2.0

So far so good, even been playing around with some female NPC's in Primm using the removeallitems console command :P

  12. I'm thinking "yay, new engine" but I'm slightly worried, theres no doubt that Gamebryo needs a pipe, a pair of slippers and a rocking chair by the fire, but Bethesda aren't what I'd call renowned at getting the best out of a game engine.

TES 5 may be problematic in the beginning and definately not one to buy on release day.

Well I guess I will be one of those that does purchase it on release day ;)

I'm going to bet it will be a STEAM only release as well.

As for the engine news, nice to hear, but like everything else, if they are going to create a World Builder/SDK then I'm sure there is going to be a nice learning curve that comes along for the ride...

  13. Not trying to get into Steam Hate or Love it response but since the game requires it to do the automatic updates then you will have to install the Steam client and create an account.

I personally love Steam but it's a matter of choice when I decided to go the Digital Download route for many of my games.

Love it or Hate it, I believe the future of gaming is going to be *all* digital downloads for both PC/MAC Gaming and Console Gaming.

  14. Update: (also, sorry if it's not ok to doublepost for new info/bumping after a period of time) I forgot I recently uninstalled the .net framework and reinstalled version 1.1 to be able to use a mod installer for a different game, could this be causing my issues?

Edit: This hasn't helped either. I am officially out of ideas now.

That is possible, .NET Framework v4 is supposed to be backwards compatible with apps built around v1.1 and up.

  15. I'm running FO3 GOTY just fine on Windows 7, RC1, x64-bit Edition without the compatibility modes enabled, however, I did have to change the load order and apply the fallout3.ini tweaks(the ones for quad-core cpu's) to get things working properly without any freezing and/or CTD's.

    Here is my load order:

    Fallout3.esm

    Anchorage.esm

    ThePitt.esm

    BrokenSteel.esm

    Zeta.esm

    PointLookout.esm

For some reason if i had PointLookout in any position before the other master files I would get ctd's and/or freezing.

Could be the root cause for me is the quad-core cpu and the fallout3.ini tweaks are the resolution ;)

There is a post about what to change the fallout3.ini file to but it's the cpu affinity tweaks for the GameBryo Engine to allow multi-threading but only use 2 cpu cores instead of all 4 cores, I bet it has the same issue with the triple core AMD cpu's too....

I will have to test that on my fathers rig as he has a new triple core machine now...

If I can locate that thread I will post the link but it's here in the technical support section, maybe it was in one of the stickies at top too, can't remember.

  16. I'm currently running FO3 GOTY on Windows 7, RC1, x64-bit just fine.

I did have to make a few changes, like to the load order, I had to load Point Lookout as the last loading ESM after Mothership Zeta.

Also, there was another tweak that helped as well, this was due to running a quad-core cpu, it changed the engine affinity to only use 2 cores so the CTD's and other issues have basically vanished for me ;)

  17. The thing with DDR2 memory is that it's dirt cheap now a days, so if you find a faulty stick, you can easily get a very nice, name brand 4GB kit for around $50~60 USD ;)

Another thing to look at is cooling, have you cleaned out the fans and heatsinks inside your machine recently ???

How long have you had your machine running ????

Depends on your environment of course, I work in the Point of Sales business and of course Pizza Shops have tons of flour dust in the air, hehe ;)

  18. Hello there,

i have the GOTY edition, so my guess is, i do not need any OFFICIAL Fallout3 patch. The version number of my game is

to be 1.7.03. Now, do i still need the Fake patch?

Also, as i am new to Fallout, can anybody post his loadorder for the DLCs, FO3 Wanderers Edition, Marts Mutant Mod, the Unofficial Patches and DLC Delayers?

I am at loss, and decent BOSS-like utility is nowhere to find, nor are there any fanmades templates for FOMS2 to find!

    P L E A S E P M M E AT F A L L O U T N E X U S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    THANKS

I was wondering the same thing and especially since I was having problems with CTD's and HANGS :(

I was however able to resolve it, well, at least the HANGS appeared to have gone away.

I used FOMM to disable the DLC's, all of them and then run FO3 by itself, loaded the last save game, said yes to the missing content box and loaded.

No hangs or freezes so far, didn't save any new entries nor enter any locations, just quit out of the game back to the desktop.

What I did was to use FOMM to enable one DLC at a time and repeat the same save game load with that only re-enabled DLC content. None of them by themselves seemed to cause this behavior so I left Anchorage enabled and then enabled the Pitt.

Both of these enabled seemed to be fine, I did change the load order between the two and didn't seem to make any difference at all.

Enabled Broken Steel next and didn't have any issues, but as soon as I enabled Point Lookout the HANGS/FREEZES appeared :(

I then left Point Lookout disabled and enabled Mothership Zeta, didn't seem to have any issues with this one either, ok, to verify I then re-enabled Point Lookout and the HANGS came back, aha!!!

Well since it seemed to place the load order like this:

    Fallout3.esm

    Anchorage.esm

    ThePitt.esm

    BrokenSteeel.esm

    PointLookout.esm

    Zeta.esm

I decided to make PointLookout load last, this seems to have done the trick and the HANGS appear to be gone for the moment at least.

Now to get back to testing for any further CTD's or HANGS (knocks on wood)

  19. I'm thinking this is just coincidental, but I have seen strange things happen with Windows before after a game/app gets installed.

Are you having other issues with any other game at the moment or just using Windows in general ???

Here is what I would try out first just to rule out some possible hardware issues.

There is a freeware app called Memtest86+, just Google it, that you can download and burn to a CD, it's an ISO image and will boot off of that optical disc if you have the optical drive set to boot before the HDD.

After burning to a disc then restarting Windows with this disc in the drive then let the Memtest app go through a few loops, I like 3~5 loops just to make sure and pay attention to any errors being logged, even one error can cause problems, not just with the game but with the OS as well, hence why I think you know have a corrupted system file or two which is causing the BSOD.

Another disc I use to test other hardware components is the Ultimate Boot CD which also includes an earlier version of Memtest and a ton of diagnostic tools for HDD's, CPU's, Chipsets, etc....

It is possible that you have some kind of compatibility issue with Fallout 3 on your machine configuration.
