I was having an issue with some npc textures not loading correctly. The fiends would load fine with type3, but any NCR or other non hostile npc would have distorted low poly skin, and a really weird like ghost underwear effect on the bodies. I had NMM with the Archive Invalidation going. Someone suggested turning it off and on, and it kept trying to go to a different path than what my NV was installed to and therefore denied the request. I downloaded the AI from the nexus, and it crashed my game repeatedly with I believe Groovatron which worked fine beforehand. Deleted the FNV folder and am reinstalling now... Not sure what the hell is up with this crap, but it's frustrating.

Funny enough, I got to this because I have the same editing problem with my fallout_default.ini, but mine isn't set to read-only and still cannot be changed. Any ideas?

Just fixed my crash issue (for the moment). I did the shadow settings to low, but I also turned the other 3 settings to low as well, and so far nothing, granted I only lasted for about 5 seconds with the shadows, I'm on 5 minutes now, wish me further luck.
