  1. New Vegas has its own problems. It was a game that could have sat in development for another year and it would have been better. Bethesda also needs to not waste its time world building. I would rather have a few copy pasted buildings and sewers and have better thought out side quests.
  2. A few Vaults that I would like to see are... One Vault that would be like George Orwell's 1984. Every one is spied on, under nourished and subjected to propaganda. The people in the Vault would be like those in Tranquility lane, meaning there wouldn't be a thought in their heads beyond what they are told. One vault where half the people are Christian evangelicals and the other half are free willed hippies. This just would end very interestingly. Another mixed with Christian fundamentalists and Buddhists. A Roman based society in the middle of Legion Territory.
  3. My vision for an independent Mojave would be to side with Yesman and beat back the NCR and Legion. After this, although this would have to be done in a mod, would be to unite all of the settlements into a coalition with the help of the Followers. I would also beat down the Van Graffs, the Crimson Caravan, Tabitha's Super Mutants, and crush the Fiends and Powder Gangers. I would then build a University with the help of the Followers and ensure security with the NCR Troopers that would follow me. In my vision, the mod would kind of be like an RTS mod where you get to build you own settlements, and the Coalition building mod. You would create your own independent nation state in your own image.
  4. It would make sense that the LW would have a better small guns and repair skills. People would train each other how to use guns. Raiders want to protect the group then redistribute the stuff of the dead. If person A gets killed, person B and C want to stay alive. Your dad is an idiot, so why would he have any contingencies. Holotapes do store text. Some holotapes have text when you look in the pip boy. The Fallout world has 1970's level computer technology, and last time I checked, that was 40 years ago and we still use books. Pinkerton or the Brotherhood would have taught people how to do things. Also, there were other Vaults that evacuated before the LW's dad was born. Some of them would have passed on their knowledge. There are books and computer records still in existence. The Naval Research Institute existed in the 2240's. It also wouldn't be hard to fake knowledge if all you had was basic training. There aren't many Universities in the Fallout World. With how big the DC ruins are and how many people died, it would be probable that many areas haven't been looted yet. Not everyone is equipped to cross the Wasteland to loot buildings. It is also mentioned that people still grow things. Moya mentions peaches and there are farms in New Vegas. The Enclave has bases other than Raven Rock. The have Adams AFB, an Outpost near Chicago and other small outposts. They soldiers would come from somewhere else. The original Brotherhood just sits on technology and knowledge rather than use it for anyone's benefit. One thing that is weird is how few women there are in the game. I know in nature there are slightly more men than women, but there is no where near a gender balance. Most of the NPCs are men.
  5. There are many things in Oblivion that I love and wish Skyrim had. Mages and Fighters Guilds and quests lines. All the side quests were individually created. Spellcrafting One large city to trade my crap. Better writing. More colorful environment, even though it is cartoony compared to Skyrim. Being able to play as Tony the Tiger.
  6. I guess where and when would you like it to be is a better question.
  7. The story in New Vegas isn't the problem with me, it what you have to do to advance it. I feel like an under appreciated delivery boy, not the hero any side wants. I do agree that the worlds in Bethesda games have felt empty in the last few games. Yes voice acting has gotten better since Fallout 3, but what would you expect? Things to get worse or stay the same? The story in Fallout 3 isn't the most compelling, but at least the Enclave tries to kill me. Unless you piss the NCR off, you very rarely run into the other factions. Yes I know the Legion tries to assassinate you, but those are random events that happen few and far between. In F 3, you have a harder time avoiding the Enclave patrols. Occasional firefights with the enemy is a good way to liven the quest up. The Enclave is so spread out, it is sometimes difficult to remember where all of the outposts are. Also, I felt more inclined to find and help Oasis. When I came across Novac or Westside, I didn't care too much about them. The only really interesting place in New Vegas is Freeside in my opinion. The had various groups trying to get a leg up on one another. I felt more interested in Freeside's problems than I was the NCR/Legion/House issues. Things seemed to calm for a war to be on.
  8. Yes that is what the lore says, but do you know how much energy it would take to boil the oceans? It would take an estimated 4.6x1026 Joules to boil the oceans. That is just an estimate by Michio Kaku. The US uses more than 9.53x19 Joules of energy per year. That number is from 1998. To boil the oceans, we would need to produce more energy then we ever could. If all of the plants were killed in the world because that is what the lore says, how do you explain the plants in New Vegas and Zion? If plants have survived there, then pockets would exist elsewhere to reseed the world. How mutated they are is yet to be determined.
  9. It would be nice to see what you do have some impact on the world. I do want to know what other features people want to see, like game play mechanics and story.
  10. The parts to advance the main quest were essentially fetch it quests. They weren't thought out. Many of the side quests were fetch it quests as well. The game world outside of Vegas are very empty. The main story about the conflict between the Legion and NCR isn't the problem with me, it is all of the other things about the setting that you have to deal with or just ignore. I didn't buy New Vegas to only play the main quest, I bought it to play all of the game. To me, the best side bit was Honest Hearts.
  11. The Legion is also a cult of personality. Marcus makes the point that the Legion will collapse after Caesar dies. It will take time, but it will eventually. The NCR is farther down this path. This is why I am for some one like the Followers, Khans, or hell even the Mormons run things would be better. All of them would run things locally [except the Mormons], and would care about what would happen to the people they rule. The Followers I hate to disagree trickyvein, would change if it were for the good of the people they are helping. The Followers want to help people and make a better world. Some one or a small group of the Followers would see a small nation state would be the next logical evolution of their ideology. The Followers have an ideology that can create a unified cultural ways that can create an national identity in areas where there wasn't a consistent pre war regional culture and identity.
  12. With the dragons in Skyrim, where do you want to see the story go in the next Elder Scrolls game? I personally would like to see a game set during the unification of Tamriel under the Septims. I can't fathom a way that the next game will be set in the future, so going back and exploring the lore would be fun. Also what kind of features would you like to see? I would like to see the guilds brought back. I would also like to see their quests be long and thought out. I would rather see Bethesda take more time and resources to write better quests than make individual caves. It was stupid for Bethesda to waste time making caves than make the quests seem like they aren't copy pasted. I would also like to see at least one large city in the game. Having the Imperial City made it easy to off load crap when you were out because there were more traders. I spent a lot of time to run around to find places to off load crap in Skyrim because there were only a few stores in the large towns. I did like how there were more small towns and farms scattered around the map in Skyrim unlike how few there were in Oblivion.
  13. There were some tactical strikes, but look at the trees outside of the DC ruins. All of them are burned like trees you see in 1950's bomb test videos. There were at least a few large bombs dropped in the world. Also who would follow a treaty in the chaos that led up to the war? The UN was gone and there was no one to the the US and China what to do. It would be logical to assume that the both built some larger bombs to do more damage. They may not have had time to construct many large bombs, but some would have been built.
  14. My Win 7 version runs perfectly fine. Better than New Vegas in fact. It crashes less and I can run more mods without it crashing. I can also activate and deactivate most mods when ever I want and not have to restart the game like I would for many New Vegas mods.
  15. Something had to evolve as Bethesda developed things in between Oblivion and Skyrim. That's what the two Fallout games were for.
  16. Some random person I bested in a fight in a pub.
  17. Bethesda's meddling does not explain why the writing is bad in New Vegas and Skyrim when compared to their predecessors. On the whole, the writing in Oblivion was better than Skyrim because the side quests were thought out and fun. Same thing goes when comparing New Vegas to Fallout 3. By themselves, the main quests in New Vegas and Skyrim were all right, but when including the side quests, it makes the games feel like disappointments.
  18. Treating women badly won't be the down fall of the Legion in the long run. Historically, most women were treated like property or servants until the 1960's in the developed world. Women are still treated badly in most of the world and the population is still growing. The population will grow simply because the Legion wants its population to grow and it will force women to have kids until they can't or die in child birth. What will do them in is the abuse of children and the perpetual war mentality. Putting every male child through war training kills many children because the Legion only wants the strongest. This makes good soldiers, but will hamper the population in the long run. This is made worse by the fact that the Legion rejects modern medical techniques and survival rates before then were low. The perpetual war mentality will get more people killed. Eventually, the settlements that are somewhat free will outnumber the Legionnaires simply because the will have more children. This could also mean that the men will get drafted as the ones born into Legion service are a dwindling group. Also a "quick push to the sea" wouldn't be likely. The Mojave gets hotter and drier as you enter Death Valley. Back during westward expansion Death Valley was known as the "Worse Way" to get to California. The Northern route that goes to Sacramento was know as the "Bad Way". There is also very little water for the Legion's long march. Then there is mountains before you drop into LA and the Pacific Coast.
  19. There would still be green, like I wrote above, there would still be grass and other small plants. There would be many parts of the country that wouldn't have been bombed and not have been exposed to as much fallout from rain. Zion and the Mojave were left relatively unscathed by the fallout. Areas like this would exist on the East Coast and would reseed the region as the evolved to tolerate radiation. Life is stubborn and not just animal life would survive.
  20. The Legion does have the ability and sole desire to make more soldiers, but that doesn't mean they can with the same capacity that the NCR can. Arizona is a desert as it is and with the damaged the war caused would have made things worse. Northern California is more habitable and has more farmland. This means than can support more people. The Brotherhood found out the hard way that good training doesn't mean much when you are grossly out numbered. Arizona can't and never will support a large population like California can. As someone who grew up outside of the US I can understand not knowing the geography and biomes of North America.
  21. Having Legion settlements be planned and being dropped does explain some aspects about the game. Like the ranger station near Devil's Throat. There is no reason for anyone to be out there because there are no settlements or anything else to guard. That area is far off the beaten path and no where near any targets. The size of Nelson and Cottonwood Cove seemed too large to just be abandoned. My opinion towards things like the side quests and locations are have them be interesting to see or serve some purpose like trading. Elder Scrolls games do this well. There are many small towns in Oblivion and Skyrim that don't have quests, but are useful to trade things. As for the quests, the should either not be there or should be written well. The companion quests I went through were more compelling in some ways than the main quest itself. Having more NCR-Legion engagements could have made the game better by making the war seem like a war. But lack of financial resources does explain why New Vegas felt anorexic compared to Fallout 3. At least as far as the rest of the game went outside of the NCR-Legion Conflict.
  22. My main qualm with New Vegas was that it was a game with potential that didn't live up to it. New Vegas basically took place around the Strip with occasional side trips to areas outside of it. It was also incredible easy to go from Goodsprings to Freeside. I didn't die trying to go to Freeside after the second play through. In Fallout 3, I died every time I tried to go into the DC ruins after leaving Vault 101. Fallout 3 forced you to explore the area outside of the ruins because the game was unforgiving. They had to make the areas around the ruins at least some what attractive because you needed to build up before going to the ruins to continue the main quest. The towns in Fallout 3 also seemed to be in danger more than the ones in New Vegas [ except for Primm]. For example, the Super Mutants near Bigtown set up the Trouble in Bigtown quest. There was also Oasis, Paradise Falls, and the Wasteland Survival Guide. I was more willing to find them than I was towns like Nelson, Cottonwood Cove or Boulder City. There was no reason to go there until forced to and no advantage to do so. What I want would be a game where the world is expansive and you are forced by the game to do so a little bit. The world needs to be a little interesting even if you only go to the location once and never return. And by force, I mean make the game unforgiving and you need to build your character before continuing on the main quest. It was also inconvenient to side with any one other than the NCR. Once you get labeled a terrorist you can't go within the line of sight of the NCR because they will kill you. This isn't much of a choice when it comes to the main quest story line. I felt like I was being herded into siding for the NCR even though I didn't want to.The herding is also further enforced by the fact that the Legion isn't very present in most of the Mojave. The don't show occupied settlements or any other large Legion bases other than the Fort. I don't really consider Nelson and Cottonwood Cove occupied settlements because there are no civilians. Skyrim gave you an all right option. Either side of the revolution weren't located closely to major settlements and you could avoid them while resupplying. I disliked the revolution quests because the were short and not very interesting, but at least you could avoid the two sides to some extent.
  23. The NCR wasn't being very tactical about their campaign. General Oliver's nick name was General Wait and See. An team of legionaries could swim around lake Mead under cover and conduct attacks on the dam. Also most NCR troopers don't have standard issue weapons. Many have light weapons like 10mm and 9mm weapons, not the .556 service rifles. I have seen Legion and NCR patrols run into each other and the Legion wins even when the numbers are even. Legion soldiers are more durable and more skilled than an NCR trooper. About the tactical thing, even though it isn't in the Legion's strategy to go around and attack from behind, it would change things for the NCR if there were explosions behind them as well as an on coming army. It can't be ignored that the Legion troops are more durable than the NCR. With even numbers, the Legion would win a head on battle. If the NCR had an advantage of numbers, like they would in southern California, the Legion couldn't win because on average, a legionaries would be taking to many shots for health to matter. The element of surprise can change a fight and do more damage than guns can. Look at the Battle of the Bulge, we weren't expecting an offensive. The NCR would expect a terrorist style bombings coming from behind their lines.
  24. This is why it is good to go with the independent ending. I just wish there was a DLC that allowed you to continue on to create an independent nation-state in the Mojave. Then take on the 80's or White legs. This could be an idea for a future game set in the Mojave. Although this is unlikely because it would require good writing to make a story compelling enough to play. Building a nation would require negotiations instead of invading every settlement in the region. Also the settlements would have to be larger and be interesting. You would also need a larger region. Like having the game map extend all the way to Pahrump and other towns around Vegas. Also don't forget about Camp Golf, Boulder City, the ghost town near Red Rock Canyon and Bitter Springs. The NCR is in decline and will collapse at some point in the not to distant future. The NCR lacks an education system that might get people to think differently. The NCR is already circling the drain, the are over extended and half assing the Mojave Campaign. Without interference from the main character, I would expect the Legion to win and take the Mojave. If the NCR did manage to keep the Mojave again, I would expect a coalition of the local settlements to push the NCR out not long after they won. The NCR is going down the drain or not isn't the argument, when it gets into the S bend is.
  25. Yes some military targets would get hit in rural areas. I mean Montana wouldn't get carpet bombed like DC was.
