  1. I'll sometimes take chamomile tea, valerian tablets work well too. If you have a health food place like whole Foods near you, check it out. Sometime the mainstream grocery stores have them, too.
  2. Sorry. It had to be done.

    LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENKIIIIIIIIINS!!!!!

    You beat me to it!

    "Gosh dang it, Leeroy!"

    "At least i have chicken!"

that does it. I now have to name my first Dovahkin Leeroy Jenkins :D

  3. Might and Magic: Secret of the Inner Sanctum was released in 1988 by Jon Van Canegham. All this guy had was programming knowledge, a love of Star Trek and fantasy rpgs, and a desire to combine the two in pretty fun (if infuriating at times) game. It was released for multiple computers at the time: this was back in the day when PCs hadn't yet taken over the world, and Commodore 64s still roamed the world. JVC distributed the game out of his apartment at first. who knew that the company that brought us the later M and M games along with the Heroes series started as just another Indie game company?

Might and Magic: Secret of the Inner Sanctum will not hold your hand, give you a quest compass, or scale to your level. It won’t blow you away with awesome graphics. It won’t give you romance, crafting, mud crabs, or dragons. (Okay, I lied about the dragons. There’s more dragons than you can shake a stick at in the later stages of the game).

It will, however, give you total party kills right out of the inn, bad puns, puzzles that make you want to bang your head against the wall at times, sci-fi-fantasy shenanigans, Disintegration spells, a female-only town, and more!

    Turn-based Fu!

    No Automapping Fu!

    Hardcore gaming Fu!

    0 Breasts

    4 and a Half Stars!

If someone gets that, I will be most surprised and pleased :D

    Party Creation

In Let’s Plays involving a full party creation, it’s traditional to involve the audience in some way, especially in character creation. I do already have a good party built up, but they haven’t yet stepped foot out of the inn (much) and can easily be renamed. Gender, race, and class cannot be changed.

So where you guys come in is, if you want to be part of things, do the following:

Pick a class, gender, race, and alignment. Tell me a bit about who they are, so I can roleplay them properly. They can be named for you here on Nexus or anything else (let’s keep it PG 13 though!)

    Or

Pick one of the pre-generated people I’ve already got rolled up. As I said, they can be renamed.

The Pre Rolled are as follows:

Black Annis, Evil Human Female Paladin

Grundal, Good Half Orc Female Cleric

    McKnight, Good Dwarf Male Knight

Lucky Lou, Neutral Male Elf Archer

Sly Boots, Evil Human Male Robber

Wizz Bane, Good Male Elf Sorcerer

If I don’t get enough participants, never fear. The show will go on! Muahahahah.

But first, in order to create our hapless heroes--party of mighty adventurers, I’d like to describe the classes, stats, and other bits of important to know stuff.

    Prime Statistics

Just like the TES games, our heroes will stats that govern how well they perform their various roles. They are Might , Endurance, Accuracy, Speed, Intellect, and Personality. They all do pretty much what they sound like they do.

    Races

Hooray for variety! And hooray for the fact that no race is restricted from being a given class. Want to be a Dwarf Archer? Go ahead. How about a Half Orc Sorcerer? You bet. Elf Knight? Why not? Do keep in mind that different races are better at some things than others, except for Humans (they’re the median, as with most games) In Might and Magic, your choices are Human, Dwarf, Gnome, Elf, and Half Orc.

    The classes:

Pretty much your standard fantasy RPG fare here. Some classes are harder to roll up than others. Since the game uses a random number generator for each stat, and it’s a ‘take it or leave it’ sort of thingy, you can‘t change stats.

    Knight

This is your basic ‘hit stuff with a weapon until it dies’ kind of guy. Knights can use all weapons and armor, and their prime statistic is their Might, the higher the better. It’s a good idea for them to have good Accuracy (what good is high damage if you can’t hit something?) and Endurance (Dead Knights kick no butt).

    Paladin

This is another ‘hit stuff until it dies’ sort, with the added bonus that Paladins start getting Cleric spells at level (X) They need Might and Personality, so it’s a bit harder to get one. They’re useful though, in that if the Cleric is knocked out or killed they can step in and heal a bit. These also benefit from good Accuracy and Endurance.

    Robber

In most games, the Robber is your stealthy sort who hides in the shadows waiting to stroke his foe down from behind, picks locks, and disarms traps along the way. In might and Magic, however, he’s pretty much a walking set of lock picks. This is *extremely* useful however, as many doors and chests are locked and/or trapped. The prime stat for a Robber is Speed, though Luck seems to help as well. Robbers can wear up to chainmail, use shields, small bows, slings and crossbows, and one-handed weapons.

    Cleric

These guys are pretty close to what in TES are called Healers. Cleric spells revolve mostly around protection and healing, though as their power increases, they do get some good offensive capabilities as well. For reasons unknown, most of these badass spells seem to revolve around being outside, when most of the hardcore encounters are in dungeons :shakes fist: Their prime statistic is Personality, as they get their spell points (magicka) from it. Clerics can wear up to and including chain mail, use shields, and blunt weapons. They cannot use missile weapons of any kind.

I try to give the party Cleric the lowest speed in the party. It’s useful to go last in combat to heal injured or status affected party members. The drawback is Speed helps your Armor Class, so a slow Cleric gets hit a lot.

    Archer

Pretty much what it says on the tin. These guys are your long-range missile support. The cool thing about Archers is even if the party starts combat with the Archer in melee, they can still fire their bows! They’re also great at picking off monsters hanging out in the back rows, where your warrior types can’t reach them. Archers can use all missile weapons, and other weapons too, but can’t use a shield or wear anything heavier than chain mail. Their prime stats are Intellect, Accuracy, and speed plays a part as well. At higher levels, Archers get to cast Sorcerer spells, woot!

    Sorcerer

Sorcerers in this game are pretty much your basic glass cannon mage sort, though as they go up in levels and get better gear and spells they become more cannon and less glass :D they get some of the mightiest spells in the game, and a few of them can be game-breaking if not used judiciously. A Sorcerer’s prime statistic is Intellect, though a good Speed and Endurance help too. Sorcerers have the greatest limitations gear-wise: they can only wield staves, daggers or clubs and wear padded armor, robes, and bracers.

    Alignment

If you’ve played games with an Alignment system before, you know what this is. You get Good, Neutral, or Evil, and any class or race can be any of these. You can have a mix in the party as well. Alignment plays a part in a few areas, and can shift due to choices in the game (though this essentially comes down to fighting monsters versus letting them go and one or two other areas). This isn’t Next Gen gaming, you know :P

So, let’s get started! Tell me what you want--if anything--and the first chapter will be up this weekend.

  4. I haven't forgotten about it, guys! I just got busy. Anyway, I'm thinking of starting out with an old old school game: Might and Magic--Secret of the Inner Sanctum. It's the game that kicked off the Might and Magic franchise and well, it shows :P

If everyone can get past the 1988 PC graphics, I promise to have an entertaining Let's Play :)

It will be posted in Druid's Garden for now, so look for at least the intro this weekend.

  5. I lost a job that I loved (2010) when the ballet company here in Denver made the jerk move of shifting the tiny (5-10 people at the most) call center to flipping India. Basically, the board of directors got greedy and didn't want to pay us 8 dollars an hour (ooh, big money! NOT.) plus bonuses during Christmas for tickets to the Nutcracker so they outsourced to India. No one's bottom line was affected. The ballet wasn't losing money. They just didn't want to give up a new car or an extra piece of a--err eye candy or new house or whatever rich people do with their extra income, so they shafted us.

This especially pissed us off because we were told over and over how important it was for us to attend the performances ourselves as well, so that we could better sell tickets and subscription packages. Because you know some guy in Mumbai is totally going to know about our particular dancers, performances, etc.

I had some slight satisfaction in schaudenfreud last year when I'd heard attendance had dropped...

I'm still looking for a job, a year and a half later.

  6. Apparently, because they are seen as dangerous animals due to sterotyping and animal prejudices, they have been banned in this city. Does anyone else think that this is wrong?

Yay, I'm in Denver too! Colorado Blvd. area *waves*

I think it's silly. Yes, there are dogs who are raised and treated improperly, trained to be vicious, and pitbulls are unfortunate victims of this. But I have known pitbulls who were the sweetest dogs ever, and I am not a dog person--unless they're someone else's!

There are other breeds that have been proven to be far more dangerous. Pits just have a bad rap because of gangsta and drug culture. Yes, there have been attacks, but from what I know, it's usually dogs improperly bred/raised.

  7. I've had thought I'd had them hundreds of times. Mostly when I could see changes coming down the pipe that I thought would adversely effect me. The last time was when I was about to take my physical for my job. That was always a concern for me. The way I deal with it is to draw into myself and get into a deep dark fog, where I can see no way out, and then get pissed at myself for thinking all is lost and get a burst of confidence that usually pulls me through.

Some people take medicine for depression, but I'd always thought that people should learn to cope with things, in a manner that suits them. I think drugs only mask things and whenever they come off of those drugs, then their problems will still be there. I look at the policies that were enforced awhile back that the schools were druging their students for this A.D.D. whatever, and I wonder if that was to help the students or just to let the teachers off the hook for not instilling discipline. I have heard rumors that all those kids that have done these school shootings were on these drugs and had just stopped using them. I also heard that these drugs were never tested on kids to begin with, and no one actually knew how kids would react on them. What do you think?

I have a chemical imbalance. No amount of talking it out, sucking it up, etc. makes it go away. I've taken various meds from Big Pharma until i got sick of the side effects. Now i use herbal remedies that work for me. they don't eliminate it all--I still struggle with issues related to energy and motivation--but I no longer randomly sink into despair and cry throughout the day.

Most of the time, I do just fine, some days though regardless, I get randomly weepy. I've never been diagnosed, but I suspect I have the sort of bipolar that makes you depressed. My mother has the sort that makes you go from 0 to screeching rage in 10 seconds. It's severe, and she refuses to take anything for it. She doesn't see anything wrong with how she behaves. I haven't spoken to her in four years because of it.

  8.

Does anyone remember the lady and her dog from the Oblivion E3 demo? She paralyzed the dog because he was annoying, the developers said that this was Radiant AI,

    "I saw a mudcrab today..."

  9. Games I liked but didn't finish:

    Oblivion

    Baldur's gate 1 and 2

    Icewind dale 2

Neverwinter Nights (just couldn't win that final combat at the end)

    Might and Magic 2, 4, 5

    Fallout 2

    Dungeon Master

    Arcanum

    Drakkhen

    Games I didn't like and didn't finish:

    Various Jrpgs

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor

    Temple of Elemental Evil

  10. I love reading Let's Plays and I'm betting there's people here who enjoy them too. I'm considering one for Might and Magic: Secret of the Inner Sanctum (old game is old!) but it would get lost in the post shuffle I think unless there was a seperate sub-forum. I'm considering approaching the mods with the idea, if enough people are interested in the idea. If not, I guess I'd be updating frequently enough to keep it current.

This would be something for anyone and everyone interested in posting Let's Plays, not just me and mine :D

  11. I'd go with the snake. Snakes are generally concerned with their own survival, and it would wish to avoid me. So long as I kept my distance and didn't bother it, chances are good it won't attack.

the same can't be said of a human who has already proven their willingness to kill another. Mind, you don't tell us the details of the murder: was it in self defense? A moment of anger? Is he a psycho?

  12. I just have to ask; Will Bethesda release any other information regarding perhaps... Fallout San Fransisco?

As anyone who's followed this thread knows, Bethesda never is early nor late with information, they release it exactly when they want to.

I wonder if this is what was going on last year when they announced that at Quakecon, they'd be announcing something really exciting that the fans have been waiting for/would be excited about, and everyone got all stirred up thinking it was the next TES game and instead they announced Hunted or somesuch.

I guess they could have meant Hunted, and not Skyrim, but it seems like perhaps this was a case of "Well, we thought we were ready to announce Skyrim, except not, oops."

But yes, this is how they operate.

  13. Learning Blender would be very helpful, if you don't know it already. If you do know it, get to know it even better.

Texturing skills! Knowing how to do this for yourself will open up a lot for you.

if you plan to do quest mods, learn some story telling skills. It's a big help.

Play other western RPGs, if you don't already. Read fantasy. Reading and playing what's already out there helps build your imagination.

Study what's already in the game, and mod to suit, if you plan to do houses and other buildings. don't be too afraid to do your own thing, but decide if you want to be lore friendly, or not.

Never be afraid to ask for help or ask questions. if someone tells you "Lawl ur a toal noob!1111!!" for this, that's thair issue, not yours. No such thing as stupid questions.

You might already know all of this, but it's the best my brain can offer right now :)

  14. About nine minutes in, right after the lich comes out of the coffin, there's something that looks like a cross between Patrick Star and an icicle. If that's supposed to be a frost atronach, I have to say they get goofier-looking with each game :P
  15. On topic,

In August there will be a gaming event similar to E3, Qakecon, that will feature Skyrim and new gameplay.

    Excited? Yes.

By the way, I can't confirm this 100%, but I read it somewhere and it said August.

    Confirmed:

    http://www.quakecon.org/

In addition to the keynote and other special events (more on that soon), this year’s event will give you a chance to see some great presentations on our upcoming titles, including Todd Howard’s first public presentation of Skyrim!!

    Stay tuned on August 4th - 7th

    Thursday, August 4, 2011 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

    Friday August 5 2011 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

    Saturday August 6, 2011 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

It's in Dallas, TX and entrance is free.

this is cool. Wasn't it last year's Quakecon where prior to it Bethesda kept going on about news regarding something very exciting, that the fans have been waiting for, and it turned out to be some other game most of us didn't care about? Or was that something else?

I'm glad it's confirmed, though, this time.

  16. I would say it is simply because FONV is one of the main nexus sites at the moment as the game is still "new" so you get people that are not the brightest saying stuff like (this is just an example and I have no idea if anyone has said this exactly but I am positive there are similar things):

"This mod isn't working for me, I am using a cracked version of the game. Anyone know what to do?"

I also buy all my game legally but people pirate just about anything :pirate: , especially if it is new or expensive. I am sure most of the people who get banned also have only 1-3 posts and do not care about the nexus or anyone who makes the mods and therefor probably don't even know that using illegal copies is against the rules. That is just my opinion but I am sure it isn't too far off

I think this is probably the case. I think also there's a bit of "Bethesda sucks too much for me to give them their money, but not so badly that I won't play their game" sortt of mentality that goes on as well. Which really sucks on their part. Unfortunately, there's no such thing as a library for computer and console games (Gamefly sort of, maybe) but one that is free like the public library doesn't exist. These jerks are trying to treat pirating like their own personal library.

  17. This is far from a dictatorship. If you want an example of one, the TES official forums are a good one. I prefer places where I won't get my post deleted for expressing a negative opinion now and then in an intelligent non-trolling manner.
  18. Old news is old.

All that porting really means is them understandably wanting to make sure it works on consoles as well as PC. I can understand the logic of "Well, if they do that, then the PC version could lose out on some cool stuff because of that." but I don't think that means Skyrim will be a dumbed-down disaster. I think they've learned some lessons from Oblivion, and it still lookd like an awesome game.

Besides, the modders will step in and do their work for them like always.

  19. One background i have is for someone who never quite fit in despite his or her best efforts. Maybe they have an unusual ancestor (possibly Daedric even. I know, not lore-worthy), maybe they have a deformity or other oddity, and takes a lot of crap about it. this crap escalates through childhood into adulthood, finally becoming an attack on their person. He or she kills someone in self-defense, and is hauled off to jail.

Another thought i had is they offend someone in the nobility, who then contrive a scheme to get revenge for losing face. A failed attempt at seduction is twisted into an attempt on the part of PC to molest or otherwise harm the noble, and off to jail they go, or maybe my character really did steal something (for good reasons or no) and is caught.

  20. I often feel like I don't really 'fit in' much of anywhere, if by fitting in you mean 'a valued and accepted part of any given group'. I don't fit in really on many internet forums either in my own view of things. I don't usually feel badly of it, other than occasionally wishing my posts generated more discussion. I just sort of hang out, occasionally speak up when I have something to say, then lurk again. I'm mostly an introvert anyway, especially offline. I like people, I just don't to need to be yakking all day to feel happy :)
