Swords do piercing damage, axes do bleeding damage and maces ignores defense I think. The point is that these are their own skills.
So if spears would be in it would certainly be its own skill, and that means more perks. Besides, what kind of damage would spears do?
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Piercing Damage of course.
This. I think the main benefit to spears is if properly implemented in game would be this: You have a spear. Say, it's 5, maybe 6 feet long. Your opponent wields a sword measuring 3-4 feet. Providing you can keep him from coming in at your side or in back of you, you can go stabbity all you want and he's swinging at air and trying to get around it :D

Guess what? Tyris Flare and Red Sonja also wear "bikini armors". Look at Conan the Barbarian: he wears what is borderline extremely skimpy "bikini armor". If some people are so anti-bikini armor, it's not difficult to just turn a blind eye from such mods or even from some armors found in the game originally made by the developers. I don't understand why some people just can't accept entertainment for what it is: entertainment.
I don't take issue with it per se. Where I have a problem is when Bethesda produces ugly-ass armor and don't even try to adapt it for a female form, and then the modders step in (which is awesome!) and produce stuff that looks decent, but then the attractive yet properly covering mods are overwhelmed by the stuff that looks like pasties and a p-patch, modelled by some bimbo who looks like two basketballs taped to a broom handle rather than, you know, someone who could actually hand someone their butt in battle. (Well actually, maybe she could hand them their ass, if she wasn't falling on her face due to lack of a balanced lower body ;D)
That's just me though.

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor.
Boring, never-ending combat, no real story to speak of (in my opinion), slooooooow as hell (If you could make your characters run, I never figured out how) and worst of all, when it first shipped it had a bug that erased your entire hard drive when you tried to remove the game.
There's an entire list of bad games over on Something Awful, which make for hilarious reading. I also highly recommend The Angry Video Game Nerd, and the Spoony Experiment for more entertainment :D
MMORPG wise, no WoW isn't the greatest, but i have fun anyway and at least they charge you up front as opposed to nickel and diming you to death for better gear, etc.
But I HATED Ultima Online. I hate games where if you drop your stuff, enemy players can rob you. That and the out of control PvP.
Second Life. To me, it's nothing but paying real money through the nose to get enough stuff you can't use in real life so other players will deign to talk to you. I'd rather pay my flat fee of 29.95 (I use time cards for WoW) and get stuff I can't use in real life) :P
Runescape. Uuuuuuuugly game, overcrowded, and boring.
Perfect World. I liked it at first, but a timed quest for my fox girl to get some stupid bloody amulet by jumping up to a wall with twitchy controls made me almost smash my laptop in frustration. I stopped playing pretty quickly.
I hate JRpgs, but that's more personal preference than them being bad games.

What's worse? Some animated characters humping eachother or detailed gore in battles?
Well, in the US people are desensitized from the overexposure of violence from the media, so it's no big deal. We just can't allow our children to be exposed to a naked breast, especially a cartoon video game breast .... (those are the worst kind btw), because seeing something like that could destroy their childhood, and we all know that a child's innocence is a precious, precious thing. :ermm:
Hitler<Satan<Breast<Cartoon Breast
Because God knows the things they sucked on before they could talk are worst than the devil.
We need that macro of Reverend Lovejoy's wife right about now :D
"Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children?!"
No, because people need to stop using media like TV and video games to babysit their kids for them :P

About the Argonians, I'll admit that when I saw the females had breasts, I was all o_0. Lizard folk would not have the, WTF was Bethesda thinking? I'm guessing it had to do with the female clothing.
Argonian females have always had breasts, ever since TES: Arena.
Hah, I'd forgotten that! Been ages since I'd played. Never mind me, then *goes back to shutting up and lurking* :D

I thought nords didn't even practice marriage?
The retcon ninjas at Bethesda strike again.
Admittedly, they do love them some retconning. I had thought though, based on the words of a female NPC (in Bruma I think) that not marrying but having a mate all the same was the old way of doing things. So it seems that some Nords might practice the old ways, and some might prefer a formal ceremony.
-
I think everything they said is going to be in game.
Romance will probably not be like in Mass Effect, but I'm hoping for more then just choosing the right dialogue options.
I hope there will be more choices then in Oblivion.
And what I hope for the most is that the story will be more detailed, interesting, exciting and emotional.
Also, that Argonians look like in the concept art, half-human reptiles, and not 1/5 reptile 4/5 human, like in Oblivion.
Overall, I have extremely high hopes for Skyrim, I was never that excited for a game.
My hopes as well. Ahnassi was disappointing: nothing but fetch quests, dialog options, and a house to hang aorund in. Not to mention Morrowind completely ignored options for females.
About the Argonians, I'll admit that when I saw the females had breasts, I was all o_0. Lizard folk would not have the, WTF was Bethesda thinking? I'm guessing it had to do with the female clothing.
I'm not sure if the bit about 'dropping your sword in a fight and some kid hands it back to you/someone steals it' will be in game, or in game as we think it will be. I hope so though. It's a cool idea.

I was reading a list of Dev quotes regarding Oblivion from when the game was still in production. This was on on RPGCodex, and there was quite a lively (as in, people would get banned here) discussion of what was lies, what was eaxxgeration/overenthusiasm and what was just "Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time..." stuff. So far, it seems that Skyrim doesn't have too much in the way of overexaggeration (from what we've seen so far, it seems the worst that could happen is two beard styles instead of, say, five) but I am wondering, what seems almost too good to be true, that might end up watered down or removed by release date, to you? I don't mean this in a bad way, more as "Well, the whole concept X was cool, but we had to abandon it" sort of things or overenthusiasm. Some of the things i list here for myself haven't yet been described in any detail, but as we get closer to release date and more details come out, this might happen with them.
For me, it's the following:
Friendship/Romance. Sounds great, but it might end up being another Ahnassi sort of thing.
The whole 'Dragons swooping by and picking up enemies' thing. Sounds and looks awesome, but how will it really play out?
Crafting. I think it will be in, perhaps not as awesome as they might make it sound in the future/in our minds
The new AI and Game Engine
I can't wholly blame the Devs, though. Stuff happens. And sometimes the fans latch onto something seen in demos and get all excited over something, when it wasn't even intended to be that way, such as the lady with the two dogs. She's painting or reading or something and one of them starts bugging her...and she throws a fireball at it. I remember the big stink people made when stuff like this didn't actually happen.
As an aside, who here agrees that in regards to the construction set/patches they're going to dance around the subject and play 'Will they or won't they?' until they damn well feel like it?
Despite the negative tone here, I'm really looking forward to Skyrim. I'm all set to buy an Xbox 360 for it, because my computer sucks rocks and I can't afford a new one :D
EDIT: here's the bit about the lady with the dogs. I finally found more details:
2. The bookseller:
Or chapter five of the well known E3 Video. You enter a bookstore, talk to the bookseller, persuade her with a nifty persuasion mini-game, so she invites you upstairs with her. There you can see her very active and non-scripted schedule, which includes practicing marksman and using a marksman potion when she notices that her skill is bad, reading, eating, feeding her dog, going to bed, and paralising and burning her dog because it annoys her with its barking. All of that completly unscripted.
Now, if that was all unscripted, how come in the final version, all NPC actions must be scripted? I'm not a modder, but from what I've seen in the CS, there's no "Do what you feel like doing RAI instruction. You have to tell the NPCs to eat, sleep, read books, use items, etc. yourself. Did the bookseller actually realize that she wasn't good at marksman, so she drank that potion? Or was she actually scripted to do it? Was she actually annoyed by the dog, or was it a scripted sequence of events? How about the inviting upstairs? That's never happened to me in Oblivion.

I've been trying to not post more than once at a time today, but I have to break my own rule for this. It pokes fun at what I said about Caesary/Evony and Everquest in a dead-on way:
-
If you can't attack the issue, attack the person. By making accusations, however far-fetched they may be, you cast doubt on the persons credibility. In my view, the person resorting to personal attacks is the one that has credibility issues though...... From what I have seen of some of the current issues in my area though, that is the exception, rather than the rule.
The first rule of cross examination of a witness is to question their credibility, if they are not credible then their testimony likely is not either. Not all messengers and messages can be separated cleanly. Just an opposing point of view. :whistling:
People have different beliefs on things, and I'm good with that. It's how life is. I don't mind if people disagree with me, so long as they are more "I disagree, this is how I feel because..." as opposed to "I disagree with you, and also, you suck, and you're patronizing/snotty/an idiot" because of it. I'm more likely to try and see where the other person is coming from and assess my own views if the opposition is being polite. The other way just makes me decide someone is a jerk and less likely to think "Hey, maybe I'm not thinking things through as well as I should."
I believe I used the term credibility not assault, so when someone makes a statement in which they are drawing on personal knowledge one is perfectly entitled to impeach them and there by the message. Not sure where you got the latter half of your paragraph from my one sentence. One is always entitled to feel subjectively to any heated exchange whether that is a true evaluation is again subjective.
Apologies. I should have posted when I wasn't feeling so rushed. It was meant as a "This stuff happens" rather than anything at you per se. I also didn't want to post twice in a row.

Liberals or conservatives have already made up their minds. Those in the middle are up for grabs, but they are in the middle for a reason and will take all the time they need to make up their own minds,
Just curious..have you ever read the News of the World? It makes the National Inquirer look like the Washington Post. Give it a quick scan if you can hold down your lunch while reading it.
I know nothing about the publication, but I do know that there are many on the left who are desperate to shut down anything that Repurt Murdock controls. Mostly because they can't stand Fox news. I'm always skeptical of anything that happens to anything that carries his name, when there are so many people who are against him. I'm not a fan of followers of band wagons.
I don't mind that Fox news is out there. I feel it's important to have both sides represented, even if I don't agree with their views.
I'll admit that when I saw 'News of the World' I thought 'they're shutting down that rag that talks about 'Alien Zombies marrying Bigfoot' and Batboy and Jesus being spotted at the mall. Then I realised I was thinking of 'Weekly World News' ;D

the last post I saw from her last time i looked said essentially she's burned out on modding and is irritated by various things and is taking an extended break. She may never return to modding.
If I had her ability, I'd step in, but I don't.
It also doesn't help that some of her few female pieces were converted to BBB without her permission. There's a video out there of someone's BBB elf wearing her Giger armor.

True. I'm new to debating, and my own approach is entirely too emotionally driven with not enough supporting facts. I'm trying to correct this.
For the OP (so I don't have two posts in a row):

Debates can get intense and heated without people falling into 'Greater Internet Freaktard Theory'.
I admit my own delivery can use some work, which is why I'm trying hard to correct that.

I don't care how folks live their lives, what god they worship, or what name they use to refer to their place of worship. I don't care how the decide to classify themselves either, but, one thing that I think should be an absolute MUST, is LEARN THE DAMN LANGUAGE.
Sorry. This one pisses me off. :D
I am in full agreement on this. If you or I went to Abu Dabi or Barcelona or Moscow or any other place that doesn't have English as a first language, it would certainly behoove us to learn it. At least enough to gain a foothold while we learn the rest, especially if we intended to find work there and be a full legal immigrant.
Today my room mate and I stopped by McDonalds after doing a shop. We had to tell the youn g man at the drive through order what i wanted several times before he finally understood. I live in Denver and here, if you think to work in fast food--especially McDonalds--you'd better be Mexican. My issue is not their ethnicity. My issue is that many of them don't know enough English to understand what we're saying.
Not knowing the language makes it harder to get a job, especially in my field, since so many places are demanding bilingual Spanish here, and they prefer native speakers to those who studied it. I can sort of understand why--with Spanish especially, and i say that because we have a high Hispanic population here--you get the 'pure' language, without the idioms and slang and so forth. It still pisses me off though.

For something that's probably hypocritical, I'm also a firm supporter of not putting super-hot women all over the marketing for novels and games just to draw nerds' and frat boys' attention (Evony, I'm looking at you - no really, I am, I can't take my eyes away). It's a bad stereotype of gamers. We need a balance between hot and generic here, peoples!
I don't especially think that's hypocritical. Balance is indeed needed. I think about Everquest, and how with each successive release the elf chick on the box is in progressively skimpier attire. Is Sony saying "We know we can't compete with WoW, so MOAR BOOBIES hurr hurr!"? I don't know, but it's funny to think about.
There's a funny article out there about the Evony ads. I just about died laughing when they resorted to nothing but breasts in a lacy bra, with 'Evony' in tiny text in the corner. That's as subtle as a Xivilai at a tea party :D
Have you seen those recent Caesary ads? Roman orgy indeed. They'll have horny guys playing for years to come trying to unlock that feature :D
Oh, gods. Serious thread derailment here. As I said before, i love playing either male or female characters. I find myself more likely to unfold the story through the eyes of a female character. But sometimes, I start thinking of one and he turns out to be male instead, and I end up telling *his* story
I also play Wow, and most of my characters are females, though I'm very attached to the lads I have as well. I never play male humans though; they're almost always too goofy looking!

One possible idea I have heard relates to keeping sexual control of females . When women aren't indulging in as many partners, it's easier for the men to know that any offspring produced are theirs. Just something I've heard,
That is one hypothesis, yes. However, now that we have effective contraception, I think it's backward and unnecessary to shame someone for "impurity".
There's also the problem that this kind of bashing is not restricted to just having sex. People regularly bash women for dressing like a "prostitute", being friendly with men (not necessarily even flirting, just being platonic) or otherwise being perceived to act as a sexual being.
agreed, it is backward. But if it arises from instinct (possibly), it's harder to deprogram, though not impossible. Doesn't excuse it, and doesn't mean we can't consciously override it.
-
All I know is that I like playing female characters in my games when I have the choice, and they generally don't run around in bikinis unless they're going for a swim.
Same for me. I get really tired of the whole 'Fantasy Heroine Dressed like a Stripper' thing. I know some who prefer this not because they enjoy seeing a form that appeals to them in skimpy attire but because on some level the idea of a strong and powerful female offends and frightens them as much as they enjoy the view. So they resort to Bimbofication.
I like playing either gender. It depends on my mood, what the character I create is like, and so forth. Sometimes I play one gender or the other of a particular race because it looks better to me than the other.

I've heard a lot of people talk about the sanctity of life, but I was wondering if life was sacred for the sake of being so, or would the quality of that life be just as important. I remember about stories of people trying to save the lives of others, as in abortion clinics but yet they leave these babies in situations where they grow up without love and are neglected and abused. I also remember stories about people coming in trying to restrict the rights of others to give their loved ones a dignified end to a artificially extended existence, plugged into a machine.
I remember a few years ago about a women that was brain dead and was on life support and a feeding tube for decades. The husband wanted to take her off the machines and let her pass in a dignified manner and her parents were fighting him. Would that be living a life or would that be simply existing.
If it came to you would you place in your will that you didn't want to placed on any life support, if you were brain dead. If you had a family member that was in the same situation, and you knew their wishes, could you pull the plug on them.
I'm on a political debate forum, and I brought up the same point you make in your first paragraph. It's gotten a lively response. I have theories, but they verge on discussing the R word and I don't want to go there.
I remember the whole Terry Schiavo thing. It horrifies me to think she could have been like that forever. But this gets into another debate--did her soul depart, and the machines kept the body going, or was she trapped in there? Either way, I would want to be allowed to die with dignity. And if a loved one were in that situation, and wanted to be let go, I would respect their wishes.

Will yellow text start showing up in this thread?
*shakes Magic 8Ball*
It reads 'yes'.
*shakes mine*
"Ask again later." Aww....
I'm hoping this thread won't fall victim to GIFT. It's been an interesting read so far.
ETA: when I initially posted this, I hadn't noticed it was a zombie thread...

For all I know, each and every one of you on this particular thread may be an exception to what I am about to say; but in society today it seems as though there is just too much interest in the packaging and not enough attention being paid to what is inside each individual. If we could change that, the debate on political correctness could fade away into the distance.
I completely agree. I don't care about body parts, body size, skintone, facial features, sexual orientation, gender identity or pretty much any other superficial characteristic. All I have to say is that I think we should all treat each other the way we'd want to be treated--unfortunately, that view isn't very fashionable.
I'm in my 40s, female, and well above the socially acceptable weight here in the US. Most of the time, I haven't had too many problems aside from the occasional moron. once or twice though, it has affected my ability to get a job. I had a call from an agency three years ago, telling me a client needed an office support person. I have 5 years experience with the sorts of things the position required, and aside from shooting my mouth off here a few times, I'm smart and educated. The lady on the phone assured me it was immediate hire, all I had to do was come in, take some tests, sign with the agency, and the job was mine (this used to be a very common thing with agencies).
So I get down there, only to have her tell me "Well, I need to pass your resume on to them, and they'll let me know." When I commented on what she had said on the phone, she got very evasive and would only repeat what she just said. I had dressed and groomed properly for the interview, I more than matched the requirements for the position, so I can only assume she saw someone in her forties, chubby, and pleasingly average looking and decided I was unfit for the position. Just because I'm not young (she was in her mid twenties, I think), thin and cute doesn't mean I wouldn't have been a great employee! I'm pretty sure my resume was forwarded to the round file after I left, because I'm pretty sure that I didn't fit her mental image of what a proper employee would look like.

Most people make mods for themselves and release them to the public. If you really want to see more male armor mods, download Blender and start making them yourself.
...Just trying to remember how many times i hear that whenever i bring up the topic of wanting more male armours...
Sounds good to me, Mysterious Traveller. Let's gop out and instantly develop the proper level of artistic talent required to bring this about :D
seriously, people dont take time to consider that a lot of skill and art ability goes into these mods.
-
The reality is this... Women are nice to look at and both sexes tend to agree on this simple fact with a few justifiable exceptions. The problem however is that men; some men, being men, and being desperate, oversexed, tend to take this fact to an extreme... then latch onto components of that extreme and distort them to strange and unusual proportions.
I'd been wanting to say this for ages, but couldn't think of a way to say it that wouldn't get me banned for trolling. I was even working on a series of Oblivion themed Demotivators style posters, possibly for a mod, and some of them touch on this. I'm afraid the sentiments expressed might get me banned, or at least warned, though.
-
The difference in the number of male/female mods is that men like to see women dressed up and looking good and so do women. Men don't care (generally) about men dressed up so the market is smaller for mens clothing/armor that market being limited to women and the few men who want nice looking males vs the market of almost all males and females that like to see nice looking women.
This is partly because people of both genders enjoy seeing their character in revealing armor. Some people think armor is only attractive if it is revealing. Bethesda is partly to blame for this, particularly in regard to the female versions. Especially in Morrowind. Certain armors in that game looked hideous on females.
I don't think attractive armor has to be pasties and a patch on a big boobed bimbo looking thing to be attractive, nor do I think male armor has to be a string to cover the bits and some boots. I don't begrudge others their choices. I just prefer to have my toons not look like they should be pole dancing while fighting evil :D
I do enjoy playing male characters, and I agree that the cool stuff for the guys isn't as common as I'd like.
