  1. Well, I'm sure the modders can figure this one out. Having said that, it's not up to Bethesda what the player does. If the player wants to gallop hither and yon and never once get off their horse, and they miss stuff along the way, that's *their* problem.

Having been a DM, I do understand wanting the players to see and do all the content. But one of the things that makes the TES games great is their lack of railroading. (that should be left to the JRPGs :D)

  2. wait -- it didn't say construction set

well don't forget, they never say jack about a CS until after the game comes out and the fans have nagged long enough lol. You think by now they'd know darned well that yes, we DO want one, so they may as well have it ready to go :P

  3. Im preety sure deadra and aedra shrines are confirmed, its in the offical skyrim information thread. Well that dragon priest conjured frost atronach so i can imagine he's summonable for us too. I just hope they don't put generaly the same summons as in oblivion with animations improved only.

Actually seeing the list of creatures, they are preety diffrent then oblivion so maybe an entire new list?

That was a Frost Atronach? Jeez they get weirder looking with each game. Flame Atronachs looked like silly little girls; I wonder how they'll mangle them this time? Well, as long as the Dremora look decent this time I'll be happy :D

All griping aside, I'm looking forward to this game. I'll be getting an xbox 360 to play it because I wont be able to afford a decent computer for a long while yet.

  4. I for one would approve of improved confuration spells. On a similar note, any word on Daedra and their cults? It would be kind of weird suddenly not having them. Some people have said the nords may be too disinclined towards magic/not smart enough to conjure Daedra. Maybe, but I can imagine the cult of one Prince or another liking the remote and inhospitable terrain of Skyrim.
  5. WOHOO!

To be honest, when Bethesda said they are thinking about it I was sure they wouldn't include them, well, I gotta say I'm glad I was wrong :)

It's often been my experience that when they say 'We don't know' or 'We have no plans' it usually means they're working on and don't yet feel like revealing that information just yet

  6. According to what I have read, they removed hotkeys and replaced it with a favorites menu in which you bookmark everything you need to it, which not only pauses the game when you open it, but also seems to force you to scroll through a list. But then I read in a recent article that you have separate hotkeys for each hand....which just confuses me.As for the blocking, I'm pretty sure you block with the block button and still attack with the attack button (but with dual wield animations), I think your ability to block is only removed if you have a spell in one hand.

I've never much cared about dual-wielding. It looks cool, but quite often in games the trade-off for that is you end up doing less damage, not more. I figure there's a few Drizzt Do'Urden fans that like it because he makes it sound so hardcore, but am I wrong in assuming it does less, not more, damage?

  7. I love beautiful graphics as much as anyone. Mind, if the scenery is gorgeous and the people look like freaks dressed in Goodwill rejects, I always have issue with that. I hated the character models in Morrowind. Obblivion did it a bit better.

Having said that, I really dislike when the next game in a sequel trades in outstanding content and a great storyline for dumbed-downed pandering to the masses and 'ooh, shiny.' Why is it almost impossible to have both?

As an interesting observation, I noticed Morrowind has far more modded content with depth in the form of quests and NPC improvement etc. Not to say Oblivion doesn't have some good ones (Nehrim comes to mind, and a few others) but it tends to lend itself more to cutesy anime conversions, gainaxing boobs, and pretty shiny stuff in general.

Is this because of the improved graphics and modding engines, the content, or attracting a different audeince? I don't know, but really, why is it so hard to have an outstanding storyline AND an attractive game?

  8. I'm a visual learner, so I appreciate having a text and images tutorial. I dislike though when tutorials are made that skip entire steps or assume you already know how to do something. No, I don't already know all the steps, that's why I need a tutorial :P
  9. well, that's a tough one.

I don't mind certain things like skills being streamlines or rearranged. that doesn't constitute dumbing down. Nor does fast travel, etc.

I would imagine that when M0rrowind came out, the Daggerfall fans were squawking about how not having never-ending dungeons where it took a week of playing time to find a quest object, monster or person and about locations actually being findable on the map was dumbing down. Me, I thought 'Oh thank the gods!'

What does mean dumbing down for me is less lore, fewer interesting books and skill books (hurr hurr, reading is boring!), hand-holding, less area to explore, reduction of storyline or poor writing of said, no consequences to choices, and abandoning substance and depth for Teh Ooh Shiny.

  10. I would like it, but only if it's done right. This means an option for both genders (gay or bi optional), and the potential partners have to be equally appealing. I've played crpg's whhere the guys got a hot chick to get together with, but the girls got someone who looked old enough to be their dad or was otherwise not equal to the male option. I'd also like to see an interesting, fully developed character, with fun quests involved. Mind, I know the TES series isn't a dating sim, but there's no need to go about it half-assed the way they have in the past.
  11. I really hate those mods where they have a girl looking like a 10 year old anime puppet carrying a sword the size of a cannon and screaming "nyah! hah!" like a hello kitty or something and when people endorse it saying "oh my god, that is such a great mod!".. I mean THAT is departing from the TES tradition..

I have to say this really isn't my thing either. I just shrug, roll my eyes, and look for something I do like.

  12. Part of it is that as the ES series grows in fame and reaches wider audiences, it's attracting ever more console and casual gamers who, up until Oblivion, might never have picked up a Western RPG title in their lives. They have Kinect, or Wii, or what have you, and enjoy them, so it makes sense to them to want the new TES game ported for those platforms.

I don't want something like this, because i think if they overextend themselves trying to please everyone, no one will be happy.

  13. Houses, definately.

the rest would have to wait until we see what's needed. Mind, certain modders will insert their preferences regardless, mind I can't see anime Nords :P

  14. Not sure why people hate fast travel. Some say it is unrealistic (for me, it's kinda funny, looking for realism in a fantasy game, but to each their own). Anyway, since it is a single player game, everyone can play it as they like - if somebody prefers travelling slowly, they are perfectly OK to do so. Myself, I usually travel on foot at the beginning, and then switch to mounts of to fast travel - after a while the novelty of ambushes and bandits wears off, and you just want to get to the place where you have some business to do.

I think that when people go on about 'realism' in fantastic settings what they're really saying is 'I have a certain level that beyond which immersion and believeability/suspension od disbelief break down for me.'

Even if things like fantasy novels and games, it has to be believeable. otherwise, game designers and fantasy novelists could write any old random crap and it would succeed just because it's fantasy.

  15. Well, I too am put off my the more ridiculous mods available. They just don't suit my style of playing. I'm also just not impressed with cutesy anime style conversions, etc. Just not my thing.

Now that I have expressed my opinion, I agree: no one is forced to download these things, that's true. Perhaps where some get annoyed is the stuff we don't want (well done though it might be) pushes aside the stuff we might prefer. not everylne has the time, talent, skill or patience to mod for themselves, either.

Overall, I'm happy with more attractive body, face and hair mods, clothing and armor mods, etc. I do like big, bad-ass weapons, new locations, houses, etc. too. Not into the extreme body mods or overly skimpy to the point of my brain can no longer suspend disbelief, but I won't slam them here, either.

  16. I like knowing fast travel is there when I want it. In Daggerfall it was a necessity, as it oculd take up to 2 game time WEEKS to get form point a to point b!

In Morrowind, they made it much easier to discover locations (I imagine that at the time in 2002 the forums were aflutter with cries of 'Lame!' and 'they dumbed it down, now it sucks!' lol) and there's fast travel to major areas.

I think Oblivion overdoes it a bit, but I love exploring along the way, so I just blow off fast travel unless I'm in a hurry or don't feel like fussing aorund.
