  1. I'm fairly certain there will be some kind of armed guards enforcing the laws of a basic judicial system.

In other words; yes, we'll get more of the "stop right there, criminal scum!" that we've all grown to love.

It's a vast improvement over the 'halt! Halt! Halt!' chorus you got in Daggerfall. the guards were psychic there, too!

  2. I joined the Navy back in 1982 to get away from an emotionally and borderline physically abusive bipolar mother who wouldn't take meds. Was this the best course of action? Yes and no...yes because I got out and stayed out. No, because I wasn't mentally or emotionally prepared for it.

You seem to have your act together, despite initial posturing, your dedication and desire to serve are sincere. I wish you the best of luck, and thank you for defending your country.

  3. I realize that gaming is still dominated by the 14-34 male demographic, so there is a tendency on the part of some to assume that those of us who enjoy playing male characters (especially when we use nude mods, an/or sexy clothing mods) are gay. the thing the people that make these assumptions fail to realize, however, is that females play these games too, and shock! suprrise! We like looking at the opposite sex, too! There's also a weird rumor going around that we even enjoy sex as much as men, but you won't catch me spreading such slander. :P

So I guess I don't get why when someone like Alien Slof makes male clothing that is very revelaing, people assume she's a gay man. If you turn it around to be the opposite 'People who designs Female Sexy Body and Clothing Mod X are lesbians!' it's equally silly.

I also don't get why some people seem so threatened and even offended by it--the idea of women liking to play male characters and put them in sexy outfits. I have theories, but in the interest of not getting myself banned because people could find it offensive, I am not going to state them openly in great detail here. You're welcome to PM me though. So i am going to stick with some generic statements here about it possibly being caused by insecurity, old-fashioned ideas about how women are supposed to be, and well, a certain amount of outright sexism involved.

I know I'm being vague here, it's because I am trying hard to not get myself banned while still trying to see the opinions of others on the subject. Does anyone agree? Disagree? I like pie?

ETA: Being gay is not bad, and I am not saying that, I am saying here that assuming females are gay males because of an inability to recognize or accept that woemn have a sexuality and desires and like looking too is the annoying aspect of it.

  4. What do you all think? We getting another broken featured, incomplete and annoyingly buggy construction set? Or are we getting MORE features, script capability and even more theft of ideas and originality from our dear community members that Bethesda seems to love to steal and then give absolutely no thanks to their fanbase for coming up with it at all?

    That kind of talk.

Be well, sleep well, fight well, live long.

    ~Ranokoa

aye, and again it will require over 9000 tutorials to figure out (or at least it will if you're me) and the Devs will insist they have no plans to make one until the fans have kvetched and screamed long enough and/or it suits them to finally release it.

  5. ...hundreds of different breeds of the same female elf with a "perfect body" or "angelic features". They make me kind of sick. :wallbash:

Modders will make them anyway, appropriate or not. This community is driven by female obsession.

I was hoping for Summerset Isle, Elsweyr or Black Marsh myself. We had snowy nords in Morrowind's Bloodmoon expansion, and again in Bruma. I really hoped for something different this time.

Agreed on all the above. The reason for the 'female obsession' is demographics. Gaming is still heavily dominated by the 14-34 male demographic, though obviously females have made huge incursions into this. It's to the point now where GIRL (Guy In Real Life) has nearly been declared a dead trope. Mind, I don't like it either. I wish more modders would produce strong female characters who actually look like they know which end of a sword to hold, and not a female body who has to push her boobs around in wheelbarrow!

Back on to the point, however, I am all for Summerset Isle. They opened up a fascinating can of worms with the rumor about Daedra worship becoming more prevalent there in Oblivion, then dropped the ball entirely. Elsweyr would have been great too. Khajiit are cool, and so are Argonians. It would have been an opportunity to explore barely-covered ground, but instead they go back to the same old familiar (and safe) ideas. Come on, Bethesda. Drop the cliches when you go to do TES VI.

  6. Maybe this new game engine is Blender!

My partner and I have joked that in the future, TES games will be nothing but bundled tools (Blender, GIMP, Gamebryo etc.) given to the modders of the community to make it themselves :D

  7. Transportation (no more fast travel crap) Horses, ships, carts/wagons, silt striders, etc. Make em real-time too. Sail the world (possibly get attacked by pirates) plus a variety of ships, horses, etc.

That would be really cool. To pay to travel to Anvil and see the entire journey, instead of just poof appearing there. And maybe have bandits or marauders attack you on the way so you have to stop and defend yourself.

And maybe seasons and holidays. And go back to when Daedric Princes could only be summoned during certain times of the year.

this. I loved this in Daggerfall. I always got a kick off of going in to summon, not knowing if today was THE day and getting one...or sometimes Sheogorath! I know the dates could be found, but I didn't always find them, so it was fun. 'Hmm, who could I get today? Oh, Hi Hermeous Mora/Mehrunes Dagon/Boethiah!"

  8. in the unlikely act of bethseda veiwing these forums for epic ideas, i feel like i should make a post

    how not to fail

1: if this game MUST run on oblivions/fallouts engine (cause many would prefer if it didnt) make sure it is updated the same amount that morrowind's engine turned into oblivion's

    - this is mostly in reliability, i want no crashes/extreme glitches

    - more modability, oblivion had excelent modability, but it would be INSANE if we had enough modability to turn skyrim into a completely different game (an rts, an fps, something cool)

-better weather and other special effects

    2- no dumbing down

    - i want spears, medium armour, crossbows, throwing, enchanting skill, pauldrons, left and right gauntlets, cloths that go underneath possibly a language skill- maybe some new things like a survival skill for using stuff in the wild, or an enchanting skill

-less reliance on leveling (bandits with daedric was moronic, rats being replaced by lich's was retarded too)

    -everything should be killable

    3- better combat

    - ai, charecters arent all 5 year old

    - the ai should know fear, nothing is more satisfiying than slaying an entire group of people, getting to the last survivor, and watch her crawl away, scramble into a corner , geting onto her knees and then the player gets an option to tell her to give up her stuff/run or dont tell her anything an decapitate her

    - hand to hand combat helping with armed combat (kicking while holding a sword for example) or some other clever way to incorporate one style of play into another (like setting your sword on fire)

-dynamic combat/spells, (charging up a fireball for example)

    - diversify enemies- would it not be INSANE if spiders could wallwalk, if some enemies snuck up from behind you to murder you, if flying/swiming enemies tried hit and run tactics upon you, if there where spells alowing the player to fly/fly through water to conduct high speed arial combat with swords- mounted combat is needed

    4: better environments

    - realisticish looking water that is affected by weather

    - pretty foliage and rocks

    - changing terrain

due to skyrim most likely being rocks and snow ( giving a pallet of black and white) it would be cool if seasons affected some surfaces (for example, in winter ground a is snow, ground b is snow, and ground c is snow with twigs in, while water X is ice- and in summer ground a is snow, ground b is grass, and ground c is dirt with twigs- and water x is water

-larger landmass- more wilderness (to combat filesize- perhaps the ground could be made as large polygons and then tessellated)

    - more tilesets- oblivion had around 4 and that made every dungeon look the same

-make the game SCARE the player

    - make spells pretty

    5- characters

-NO big budget actors, instead get good many "nobodys" (plus- many nobody's can impersonate big actors if you realy wanted them. )

    - characters could have small modifiers to change the pitch/speed of their dialogue (so stupid lines like STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM sound slightly different)

    - tatoos=win (not realy a fail if they arent included, but morrowind had tattoos and it looked cool/helped the lore)

    - high res textures for faces! (remember how bad dremoras where?games main enemy shouldent look like s***)

-fix the seem on the neck

    - add morphing to bodies, so we can have fat people :)

    - give the dumner their awesome morrowind voices

    - animations, make them BETTER, plus it would be really nice if they reflected the opponents skill/health/confidence

    - faceposing- better

    6: lore

    - racism

    - stuff learned from morrowind (daedric is extremely rare, glass weapons are the 3rd best behind ebony and daedric, glass weapons are incredibly rare, stuff about daedra, finding vampires in a tomb at level 10 means run away etc)

    - norseify stuff (vikings ftw)

-skyrim= Scotland + Canada (at least how most of us imagine it)

    - dark elves should become like they where in morrowind, argonians and khajits hould become more cat/lizard like

    - werewolves

    - important political/religious stuff like whats illegal/unacceptable

7- other stuff that would be nice

    - hardcore mode like fallout new vegas

    - broken limbs (like fallout)

    - gore

    - perks, but not like fallouts- stuff like the ability to skin animals or to extract snake venom

    - armour that does not only offer protection, but adds extra stats like making the player appear richer/fearsome/poor/part of a faction etc

    - making LARGE expansion packs of countrys (like tes v: hammerfell, tes v: cyrodil etc)

    1. I agree with the first statement of Part One. I would also like fewer glitches/crashes/etc. I do like moddability, but I don't feel a need to be able to convert it to an entirely different sort of game. If I want RTS or FPS, I'll play those instead. I'm more of an RPG person though. Better weather--yes, this.

    2. I think we have differing ideas of what 'dumbing down' means. for me it means no pandering to more casual players/console players just to bump up sales, it means no hand-holding in regards to where to go (I loved Morrowind for this, even though it sometimes became a case of Guide Dang It for me and I'd have to ask around/look it up to find something), and I would want quests that actually make me think to get the job done.

    3. I agree with you on combat.

    4. I liked the scenery. they got it right.

    5. Yes YES THIS! A friend of mine said once the Dremora all looked like 'Darth Maul with a skin conditiion'. Dremora are formidable foes and should look the part. All of Number 5, in fact.

    6. I personally think Daedric should only be obtainable from high level Dremora, or given as a quest reward for a VERY difficult quest. And by found on Dremora I don't mean you kill Random Valkynaz #22, I mean you go up against a mighty Valkynaz as part of a quest chain, and his or her armor is takeable, or the weapon, etc.

    7. You have some good ideas here too. If I'd already had my coffee, I could go more in depth.

I must sound like I harp on about real quests etc. but I've been playing fantasy games since 1982. I started with Dungeons and Dragons, and I remember the sense of accomplishment that came with defeating a truly difficult foe for that first magic sword. I guess I long for that feeling in a computer rpg. bethesda can give that to us, if they choose to.

  9. I'm surprised this hasn't gained over 9000 pages already!

I think we can now all safely assume that when Bethesda says 'We have no plans to do something' it really means 'We're already working on it, we just don't feel like telling you yet' :P Also when they say 'We have a big exciting announcement that fans will be excited to hear coming up at X event!' it will NOT be an Elder Scrolls game.

Anyway, I was delighted to hear this. I am just hoping they learned how to better model faces and bodies, write storylines, and dialog. Also, I am hoping they don't go for big name movie stars but instead go for the industry famous voice actors who can really make a game come to life.

In other words, fi they learn from even a few of their flubs, this game can be the best TES since Morrowind.

  10. I tried it for about a half an hour. I couldn't get past the cutesy anime/jrpg NPC interaction screens. I'm not a fan of anime in any form: games, game mods, etc. I ended up going back to WoW. It might or might not be the best MMO out there, but I enjoy it the most.
  11. I love horror (novels and movies) but it takes a lot to disturb me. so when I heard how shocking and intense Richard Laymon's (and a few other authors') books were, I had to buy them.

I wasn't shocked, not even a little. Maybe one or two passages made me raise a brow in surprise but that was it. I guess it's shocking and intense if you go from reading Goosebumps or Ramsey Campbell and HP Lovecraft to reading that stuff, but I just didnt get it.

Considering my first serious horror reads were by James Herbert and Clive Barker and now I read Edward Lee and Charlee Jacob, I guess I'm a little desensitized :P

  12. My views are the following.

They don't realize the real issue, its not the fed being to strong, its corporations (insurance/bankers included) ripping us off and buying politicians.

The health care act doesn't hurt a thing but the insurance companies that rob you.

If you want to cut the budget then get rid of the FCC, and merge the FBI and CIA. make taxes based on income, if you have low income tax less, if you have high income tax more, it needs to be based on exact numbers not a certain range. Social Security needs to only be for those who need it, rich people have no need for it so they shouldn't get it. Cut military spending since we don't need 40 nuclear submarines being made without ever being used. Fire some federal workers (only ones that are unneeded). Change the schooling system. Get rid of earmarks and government subsidies for people who can afford it. Get rid of the federal reserve. Get rid of the bush tax cuts, we are wasting a TON of money giving the tax cuts. It is not creating jobs (unless you want to count getting them moved over seas) and its not doing any "trickle down" effect.

Make lobbing illegal, so corporations can't buy politicians and other countries can't get so much power in our country.

The tea party politicians claim to hate a lot of government things, but a lot of them get government things for themselves. They claim to appose corruption, but they support things that people do in back room deals. They support a war that is making more then 20 times as many people die then in 9/11. Who is the real terrorist when US troops kill innocent civilians? We have killed two times as many innocent people then Al Qaeda killed in the 9/11 attacks, if not more. Why are will still trying to catch these terrorists? Why don't we send the troops home and improve our national security? Money is the root of greed, and greed is the root of a lot of evil. What is the purpose of insurance companies and banks? To make money. Why do you think that helping them will help us? They are not people and should not be treated as such, corporations SOLE PURPOSE are to make money...

What is the purpose of government? People within the tea party ask that sometimes. The purpose of government is not to make money, that's for sure...

Let me ask this, if the federal government takes away all regulation, and gets weaker, whats to stop mega corporations from taking over the country to create a fascist system?

That's my issue with the tea party...

You just spelled out perfectly what I was struggling to find the right words for. Maybe no one else agrees, but I do.

Mind, not all the Tea Party folks have 'save the evil corporations! down with the poor!' in mind, so obviously, there are some who genuinely believe that their ways is the best way. the question, really, is why do they feel its the best way, when so many people stand to be harmed?

  13.

Freedoms combined with fiscal responsibility and smaller government, it just makes sense. I believe it is what the founding fathers of America intended. There is no perfect system, but anyone who is smart and or works hard, will live comfortably compared to the rest of the world, and also have the freedom to pursue whatever they wish, and that is about the best we could hope to do within reason with a government.

I don't believe the founding fathers had the insight to see some of the current problems of politicians all voting to give themselves more power, and pay raises, and also lobbyists influencing policy more than the people that elected these officials. This is the biggest flaw of the American system, and is one of the reasons we are where we are right now. I believe the US has become one of the most corrupt systems in the world.

That I can agree with. Is it true though that libertarians think everything should be privatized? Human naure being what it is, I dont think people here can be counted upon to support schools, roads, libraries etc. without it being taxed by the government.

You know, given the heated politcal debates from both sides elsewhere here, I would have thought more people would enjoy the opportunity to tell us what makes them tick and why.

  14. I am Liberal when it comes to freedoms, and Conservative when it relates to economic issues. But the modern day American liberal view of freedoms, isn't what I am talking about when I say liberal. I consider myself a Libertarian.

What is it about being a Libertarian that appeals to you most? Why does it work for you?

  15. Please don't treat this as open season on the other side. There's a difference between saying 'I'm a conservative because.../I'm a liberal because....' and saying 'I'm this or that because the other side is evil and stupid because they do xyz.'

I'm a liberal, mostly because I feel liberals have the rights and welfare of individuals who are in genuine need in mind moreso than that of corporations and those who don't need the extra help (ie, tax cuts for the super rich). It really angered me that right now they just voted to cut unemployment benefits off. Now, I know that not everyone who is unemployed is looking for work, and I do realise there are people who would rather be on welfare than work, but they're outnumbered by people who bust their butts looking for any job they can get.

I know that in theory tax custs for corporations were supposed to make it easier to open up jobs, but all it did was make the CEOs spend more on themselves and cut even more jobs. This obviously didn't work, so why keep insisting it does?

I believe in preserving the environment, not opening up national parks for energy companies to exploit. With all the cuts to educational and cultural programs getting voted in, I feel like the right is wanting to encourage stupidity and ignorance. But hat are they really believing they are trying to achieve here? I guess I just don't understand how the conservative/Republican folks can honestly believe that cutting funding for public schools, unemployment assistance, cultural and educational programs, letting corproations outsource jobs to India etc. can be at all helpful in making this country stronger. I know the conservatives/Republicans don't get why we liberals think and do the things we do, so let's see if we can't enlighten each other.

ETA: I know, it isn't just the conservatives and Republicans who think that way, but it *seems* they outnumber the Democrats/liberals. Anyway, the whole point is here you have a liberal who wants to understand why the other side believes the way it does and thinks it's the best way to go. shocking! :D

  16.

Also, how exactly could the tea party movement be dangerous? Left wing protesters are much more violent than people involved with the tea party.

I have to disagree, considering it was someone on the left who recently got her head stomped on by a guy on the right. She was not behaving violently or agressively.

  17. You know, (I say this purely for the thought) the fantasy perception of females by males (being, women being damsels in distress and males needing to accomplish all roles in life.) was culturally and lawfully enforced up until the woman's movements of the 1900s and previously Native American culture. So in reality, males have been trying to force that fantasy ideal on women throughout history. It wasn't until the 70's (?) that women openly served in militaries around the world or held jobs (WWI) that men previously held in times forgotten.

Perhaps the 'gaming perception' of women is basically man's way of coping with his inherent loss of dominance in society... hmmm....

I think this could be part of it. It would certainly explain part of the reason--beyond catering to the 16-34 male demographic--that badas women are put into skimpy outfits with overinflated boobs. It makes them appear less threatening. It might also account for the number of game mods featuring big boobed bimbos. Even though she's the Nerevarine/helps defeat Mehrunes Dagon/saves the world, she's far less threatening--therefore more appealing to some--in stelettos and sporting H-cups.

  18. Loved it! Played it constantly earlier this year. I love the character voices and personalities. Only parts I disliked were those sea tunnels with the death rays and psi sharks, and the damned mining cars. Took me almost an hour of fiddling with the dials to hit the right place.
  19. i made a comment about graphics vs. depth in the TES games over on a thread about Bethesda lacking storytelling ability, so I'll just comment here about non-TES games.

My big favorites of all time were New World Computing's Might and Magic series. IMO, the series stayed solid (SOLID!) up until 6 or 7, then it weakened a little. Still good up until MM9. My brain just rejected the idea of playing after watching RPGenie's Let's Play on Youtube. We won't even talk about Dark Messiah. That was NOT a Might and Magic game! I haven't tried Heroes of Might and Magic yet.

The other series I loved was anything SSI put out that was part of their Gold Box series: Pool of Radiance (not the godsawful remake from 2001, the original), etc. also the Eye of the Beholder series.

    I also love Wizardry 8 :D
