  1. I never used to have too many issues in games, except now and then on WoW, but last month, I think someone dropped Jerkass Bombs on every server in both factions. I put more people on ignore for being rude and snotty in one month than I did the entire four years I've played.
  2. Man. I remember the days 3 years ago when the only big gripe about D3 was "Aaaaaaarrrgglgjgkll, it's too colorful!" and Blizz came out with the snarky rainbows and ponies D3 t-shirt lol. then I heard about the DRM...and the RMAH...and any desire I had to play went out the window.
  3. The underlying question is not if it is a bad thing to adhere to lore or not...

That's like getting visibly upset upon learning that someone likes a different flavor of icecream than you.

:pfft: I wouldn't lick that with your tongue. :P

Seems that some folks think their opinions rate higher than others though, and feel it necessary to tell folks to do things 'their way',

    I blame the republicans.

    :facetious:

Thread title and opening post did appear, to me, as if the OP was acting as an apologist for the lore mongerers.

Seriously though, for me the bottom line is -- in my single player game your opinion is irrelevant.

Yeah, I see how it could come off that way. I'll word my posts in the future more carefully, because I didn't intend it that way. Or, not post at all.

  4. thank you everyone for all the awesome answers!

I did think a certain level of "Those modders are wasting their talents on stuff I don't like instead of stuff I do like!" went into it. Sure, I would prefer to see more mods in my style, but I can't mod my way out of a paper bag and I have all the artistic talent of a dead turtle, so I either find someone agreeable to do it for me, or I just shut up and deal.

Tidus44, yes, I did assume someone who was otherwise normal except maybe for control issues and a bug up their butt. Those examples you give are horrifying, and they not only point at issues the people have with their gaming lives, but other underlying issues as well.

I also will never understand why people have such a need to tell others what to do over mods. And it isn't just mods: we wouldn't have 90 percent of the world's problems if the human race didn't have a tendency to be controlling butthats to each other. "My views/religion/way of life/mod preferences are better than yours, and if you don't agree, you suck/are going to hell/I will kill you/call you names." Maybe someone some day will figure it out.

  5. What we refer to as lore mongers are those who demand that everyone play the game according to their personal concept of what the lore is. These are the people who claim that by making a mod that doesn't fit their personal concept of lore you are ruining the game and your mod should not be allowed. (anime, furry, pony etc) I have yet to figgure out how a mod that you are not going to use is ever going to affect your game. Or why someone would object to someone else playing with a flying pink pony that breathes fire when they are not required to play with that in their game.

For mods, what you do is up to you. You get to decide what you want in your game. If you want your mod to adhere to some concept of what you think the lore should be that's fine. If you feel that the game needs a candy striped goblin toting a AK47, that's fine too.

Beth changes the 'lore' from game to game. There are no cliff Racers in Oblivion, there are no goblins in Skyrim. Lore mongers tend to pick and choose the lore they want to worship while ignoring a lot of things that did not make the transition from one game to the next.

Oh gods, indeed so. Mind, i might look into a candy-striped goblin with an AK47. It appeals to my sense of the bizaare :D

I don't mind the Brony stuff too much, I think it's funny and cute, and the Randy Savage dragon made me laugh my butt off. Sometimes mods veer into the territory where I wonder "Well, if you want to play TERA/Soul Caliber/Final Fantasy, why are you playing a TES game?" but it's nothing beyond I'm curious about how people think.

  6. Lore is great and all, it's one of the reasons people play the games in the first place. But unless the lore specifically state that anime pony girls with machine guns don't exist, adding them in isn't contradicting the lore :)

LOL true! That's why I view it as "If I feel it fits in with my own concept of the lore." APGwMG mods are the sort I download and play with after I've beaten the game several times and am thoroughly bored with it :D

  7. I see a lot of people can banned for lore-mongering, which for me is "I adhere to the lore, and you suck and are stupid if you don't!" attitude that some people have. Yet I also have seen the exact opposite on occasion: people being put down because they politely state that they prefer to adhere to the lore. Preferring the lore is not lore-mongering, yet I've had that accusation leveled at me just for saying (elsewhere) that "I prefer things that don't destroy my immersion and strain my suspension of disbelief."

In addition to the question above, in your opinion, where does adhering to the lore turn into lore-mongering?

  8. I stereotype most of the above with console gamers, because they can't mod their games so are forced to play the vanilla game and are more impressed by new content and items to make them 'stronger' etc rather then things which make the game more immersive and add other aspects to the game.

Even though i haven't played Skyrim as much as Oblivion, i still play both on a easier difficulty setting to breeze past pointless wolf battles and still have a challenge against the bosses, i don't need to play on the normal or harder settings to feel that i have accomplished something as id rather spend my game time exploring rather then battling in the places i explore for hours on end.

I think it depends on what you want from the game, i used the console to obtain money to buy a house, i didn't feel that i was 'cheating' because i didn't earn it, i just wanted to skip the process of obtaining the money to have a house and spend my time doing something else.. Seeing as the game is single player (not counting achievements etc which could be seen as turning the game competitive,) it shouldn't matter what a player does as long as they are happy when they are playing!

I do this as well, and if a clothing mod has ridiculous prices for normal everyday (if very pretty) clothes, I do it then too. I'm not spending 10 thousand gold that I earned the hard way on a shiny dress that does nothing lol.

  9. If I were the man who lost his face, I'd rather be dead. Homeless is bad enough, but homeless and no face, or a destroyed one? How awful.

I would have figured PCP or Meth being the culprit, so I was surprised to see cocaine is to blame.

  10. 10 reasons why Chuck Norris will win over anyone or anyhthing :teehee:

    1. He owns the Death Star

    2. He has every weapon in the Universe

    3. Hes emortal

    4. He simply has to stare at you to kill you, if he really wanted to. In most cases he does.

    5. Hes a master in all known fighting skills in the Universe and beyond, doesn't matter if its Alien in origin.

    6. He plays Poker with Darth Vader every night and wins..

    7. He doesn't need food to live

    8. He can survive in space

    9. He shoots laser beams out of his hands

    10. He can change into any form at will.

Also, he can divide by zero :D My vote is for Chuck.

  11. Your classification made no sense.

Casual means you don't play games much and just do it for fun. Hardcore gamer means you play games a lot, and get seriously involved with games. It has nothing to do with genre or "winning".

Getting seriously involved in RPG games makes more sense then getting seriously involved with FPS games. RPG games are more immersive and you end up sinking a lot of time into them. It is silly to say casual gamers mainly play RPGs.

This. Most casual gamers wouldn't touch RPGs, especially RPGs that make you use your brain. They're more into the stuff like Angry Birds and the like. Not saying they're stupid, just that being a roleplayer so does not equal casual.

  12. What a shame that such an excellent series went to crap on the third game. Aside from the stuff Bethesda has been known to pull at times, I've never seen such a blatant case of "Screw you fans, we do what we want!" in my 20+ years of computer game-playing. The only way I will ever play this is when it goes in the bargain bin.

I was a good sport about all the changes until the forced connection to the internet BS was revealed. I don't play Diablo online, period. I don't like being forced to be online to play single-player.

This combined with them trying to compete with cutesy-poo Asian MMOs for World of Warcraft (Mists of Pandera=Mists of Pokemon what with the training non-combat pets to fight duels) is just about to make me make a rude gesture at Blizzard and walk away for good.

  13. my obsession with jumping off high places has led me to make an (admittedly stupid) leap off the edge of Throat of the World. I got up as high as I could on the mountain - grabbed my notched pickax, thank you very much - then got a running start and jumped..................................

.................and then proceeded to watch my character roll down the entire mountain. And I do mean the ENTIRE mountain. I finally stopped rolling when I hit that barrow outside the little town at the foot of the 7,000 steps. Go figure.

Where is Bard's Leap at? I must make this jump!

    with apologies to Eddie Murphy:

"Oh Stendar help me Imma fallin' down the stairs!" (thumpa thumpa thud)

    :D

    these are great!

  14. Don't think funding is the answer because it isn't, on this side of the pond the last government threw billions at the schools, the result? employers are now complaining that an alarming number of todays school leavers are completely unemployable because they can't read or write properly.

That's a problem here too, to the point where many employers have begun listing "Bachelor's/Associate's Degree Required/Preferred" for jobs that don't even remotely require one. they're so worried (some of them) that high school didn't do the job right that they think a degree is going to fix that.

I used to work in call centers, and before I stopped due to burnout I had 4+ years experience and did my job very well. Sometimes I'd see ads for call center work that said "No experience required, but you need a degree" and I'd laugh. Imagine calling tech support or customer care and hearing this:

You: My widget isn't working/I need to return something/there's an error on my bill. Can you help me?

Them: No, but I can tell you all about my totally relevant degree in medieval literature and culture!

Seriously. I'm almost 50 years old, and getting lumped in with the last 10 years' worth of high school grads (as employers view them) is annoying as hell.

Back on topic, yes, school does kill creativity. So most jobs in the workforce.

  15. Yup. Of all the games I've played, that is the only dungeon that made me want to track down and slap the designer :P I love Jon van Canegham, but damn. Dungeons like that always make me think the devs got tired of working up real challenges and went the "Hey let's just throw a bunch of super-tough monsters together and call it a day!" route :D

I know what you mean! :P It took me forever to get through there.

I had a party of one fighter, one paladin, one druid, and one sorcerer. I beat the whole game with this group...they were fantastic. And all girls, too! :D

The trick with Castle Darkmoor is your Wizard Eye spell, which shows the enemies on your minimap. The eyes and liches both have the power to dispel that, so you'll literally be blundering around blind and run into enemies you don't know are there. To counter this, hire a follower who is able to maintain a constant Wizard Eye. It'll cost you a pretty penny, but it is well worth it. Make sure at least one of your characters is able to cast cure spells that remove fear, disease, insanity, etc.

Also, a good general tip for dungeon delving: If you need to rest in the middle of a dungeon, go back to the entrance room and literally back your characters into a corner near the door. Sometimes that is the ONLY spot that will be safe for you to rest without getting a nasty encounter (that surprise noise always scared the living daylights out of me). Make sure to stock up on apples.

It's been a couple of years since I played, so if you have any more specific questions, you may have to refresh my memory a little bit. I'll be glad to help you in any way I can, though. :) There are definitely some difficult challenges in that game!

Thanks so much! I'll give that a try. I never thought of hiring someone with Wizard Eye. I think this was the only dungeon too difficult for me: the rest I could have managed.

  16. I have MM6, and it's the only one I've played, but I loved it. :D Still do.

You'd probably like MM7, too! Same style of play, a few extra classes, more racial variety. There's more meaning in the Lightside/Darkside choices, too.

I'm playing 6 again. Just started a new party, and I have to ask: how did you handle that castle Darkmoor? That place is just insane. Heh. I mean, what classes did you have, spells, etc?

Darkmoor, Darkmoor...is that the one in the Mire of the Damned? With all of the liches and the crazy zapping eyeballs?

  17. I have MM6, and it's the only one I've played, but I loved it. :D Still do.

  18. I'm a big fan of the series. I've not tried HoMM because I suck at strategy games, I haven't played MM8 just yet (but will be) and I might try MM9 though I've heard it wasn't a strong game. 10 just doesn't exist for me. They turned it into a single character action game, and that would be like taking TES and making it a casual facebook-style game, in terms of how it felt for me :P
  19. I'm waiting for a few years for the price to hit the 29.99 level, or even the 19.99 level.

So, if I understand correctly, the RMHA still allows you to pay with gold, but some clown can whip out his cc and pay real money for it, and beat you out? I had thought it was completely 'real money or you're SOL'. I'm not sure which is worse.

I played D1 and D2. I still play D2. I always played offline and beat the game many times, a few times on Nightmare difficulty. I don't like being forced to play online. I also want to say that I love WoW, but if they ever implement RMAH, I'm out of the game forever.

  20. If you want to post something critical, ask yourself this:

Is it objectively true and is it actually constructive?

"Anime sucks", "I hate MLP", "Sex mods are icky" =NEITHER. The same goes for all the disgusting messages one gets when posting anything that is "different".

I've seen many a mod on Nexus sites that I found to be unsuitable for my setup or just not to my taste. I just pass them by and get on with gaming. If I'm REALLY grossed out, I'll distract myself by looking at pictures of cute things.

There's been a few mods on Skyrim Nexus that me seriously wonder about the mental or emotion health of the creator. But then I just shrug it off and go look at Memebase or I Can Haz Cheezburger :D

You never can go far wrong by seeking refuge in Can Haz Cheezburger, As for the other..well you aren't they only one wondering....

We don't agree on politics, but as long as we can agree on I Can Haz Cheezburger you'll always be cool in my book :D

The funny thing is, the stuff in some mods, if it's in a movie or a novel, doesn't bother me a bit. I am unsure what the difference is, but there it is.

Back on subject, for the most part, I just don't get into manga, anime, or JRPGs enough to fully appreciate the mods based on them, aside from the talent and obvious hard work. There's a few I like (usually the more serious or grim ones like Berzerk or Full Metal Alchemist) but mostly it's the 'cutesy' stuff that finds its way into mods, and it clashes with my own ideas of what 'fits'. However, I won't slam the modder, or the mod, even if such were permitted here. I will make positive comments if the mod really strikes me in some way.

I have no issue with sex mods. Sane, consensual sex is beautiful and fun, damn it. It's part of life. If society as a whole wasn't so repressed, it would likely have a much bigger inclusion. Not as, errm, entertainment material for the lonely or those too poor to pay for porn (two negative slams I seen on it quite often on Nexus and elsewhere) but as a realistic and positive part that adds immersion. I don't use them because I'm usually too busy running around and questing :P

  21. What about option 5, I don't like the MMO and I don't like TES, so I don't care? It will end up as a grind MMO anyway.

@nyxalinth: People say cartoony because they can't say their real thoughts. Same as consolised or dumb-down or anime, they use ad-homumes and straw-man arguments to make a point. What they really want to say that the textures are not too detailed and the characters are pasty.

Is it wrong to ask for realistic looking visuals? Or are devs going to be NONONO GUYZ YOU DONT UNDERSTAND ITS ART STYLE! translated to, we are using a crappy engine that cannot do anything better since we are too poor.

Well, I'm the one who's too poor for a better computer :P there's NOTHING wrong with asking. I just wasn't seeing how it was cartoony. Now I understand.

  22. I don't see why the graphics are considered 'cartoony' and it's not like modders never have to fix Bethesda's people/armor/creature graphics, anyway, so I imagine it's the lack of moddability of said that is the real complaint.

I play WoW. You want to see cartoony? There it is.

I'm giving it a go. Maybe it will suck, after all, but let me find out for myself :P

I'm not spoiled by the graphics. Hell, I play games that are 20-25 years old still that would have most players here retching onto their keyboards. I like pretty graphics, yes, but they aren't the Holy Grail of gaming for me.
