I'm working on a mod and have successfully done this -- see screenshot below. (I need to move the center pawn a little more to the right, still). I haven't published it yet because I'm trying to solve a different problem. http://i.imgur.com/9TQJvk7.jpg If you want to make the same work on your end, it involves editing CIN_PreMission.umap and hooking the Squad Selection screen -- actually, the ol' reliable MaxSquadSizeFix mod does the job neatly.
