Thanks for your detailed response! I'm actually hoping that Larian includes other companions and potential romances in the final version of BG3; They've apparently indicated that at least 3 more will be added. All of the present companions have been made more likeable and interesting even in early access except possibly Lae'zel, who's a true-to-lore one dimensional Githyanki, and no more offensive to me than most conventional barbarian types. (Her bullying of Zorru is hamfisted "kill the Gith" bait!) I don't care for Shadowheart's present face as she hardly resembles most D&D half-elves (I always play as one or as an Elf). Her present patch 6 personality is fine, but I don't like dealing with "victim who found true support and love from a justifiably despised religion/cult/race and is thus loyal to them for life" tropes because they are cliches that put the interests and experiences of one individual over those of many and often whole societies at large. On the plus side, they add more depth to the once black and white, simplistic, and often illogical world of earlier D&D. (I loved Deekin because he made Kobolds into something much more complex than genocide justifying cannon fodder.) I hardly find Sharrans as unlikeable as many other Faerunian faiths. However, I prefer having the opportunity for my PC and party companions to heal the psychological wounds of such individuals. Thanks also for your recommendation for the Divinity games. I've been checking these out, but since I play almost entirely D&D and Pathfinder, I'm presently inclined to buy Pathfinder:WotR (no pretty landscapes as in Kingmaker, but very interesting characters), and wait for the final version of BG3. Cannibal, enemy eating Elves? Hhuuuuuummmm ...
