  1. Did you install it through a mod manager, or through the ingame bethesda.net modding utility. If you did it ingame, you can go to mods and check your load order to see if it is there. You can also go into the game directory and look for the esp file as well.
  2. There's something else to look at as well. I also had this problem, but the problem isn't with AAF itself. The last few versions of F4SE have been coming out without installers. If you look at the read me, it only tells you to transfer a three files into the fallout 4 folder to get it working, but with AAF, you also need some of the f4se scripts. I don't know which ones specifically AAF needs, but what I did was basically moved all the contents out of the f4se folder that gets made after extracting it, and into the fallout 4 folder. It should add a data\scripts folder, and an src folder. Once those two folders were added, I started a new game and AAF started working for me.
