I still haven't done a second playthrough yet and I don't want to until I find all the basic good and useful mods that I want to use before going through the whole game again. So I ended up making a few mods trying to improve things and I haven't been able to stop modding yet. I read a post somewhere on the net from a guy that did something similar with oblivion and he never got around to playing it again just modded it all the time. I really hate how every single TES game has to be fixed or modded before it is playable without UESP or google! I don't want to have to use the console not even once! but that is a dream, the fact that a large group of people work on something called the unofficial skyrim patch and now the unofficial dawnguard patch is reason enough to be pissed at the company. I can only imagine what the offices of the devs looks like, probably looks like a tornado just came through and everything is scattered everywhere. Nothing organized, never completely finished with anything just constantly working on stuff and never making it work right just make it work to a point and that is all that matters. How many more buggy things for this game will come out? Why did they make that hearthfizzle dlc? I don't think the average player wants to swat at dragons and giants all the time to keep them off some trophy museum full of orphans and a spouse and dogs and horsies! I really hate the bugs in this game and I can't stand mini dlc and npc killing bugs like in dawnguard. They didn't even have to make dawnguard they could have just made part of another province/country and allowed the player to travel there. Crossbows we could have had thanks to modders and nobody needs anymore vampires and warewolves. I have only played the game completely through once and I am already dreading the thought of playing it again if I have to worry about buggy dlc killing the experience. I want to install the unofficial patches but they change so many things and I don't want to experience new bugs just because I tried to patch the game. To find out if that will happen or not I would have to follow the daily logs of the unofficial patch makers and it would probably be just as bad as not using the patch and looking at google again all the time. The only things I have managed to change to my liking so far are two mods that I have made, they are hosted on the nexus. One is a backpack/carryweight/enchanted gear mod and the other changes the various fancy clothes in the game and gives better rewards for important stuff. I want to make two more mods before I dive in again, get a basement and some basic stuff in the basement for breezehome, no forges or smelters down there just a library and a mannequin and maybe some weapon racks all working correctly and get a mod for ebony armor and shield working and looking good. Then get into the enb stuff and some basic mods and that is it, I don't want more than ten mods in my next game. People running sixty mods I don't know how ya do it? Lol the same game would mess up so fast and all that progress lost would feel like such a waste. It is better to keep up with ten really good mods and complete everything and be ready for any new dlc that doesn't suck than to have a lot of mods and have to start over a lot. I have been modding and testing with my original save game so much that I know it won't be stable for much longer. Already some stuff in the game that should be working doesn't anymore, little things like musical instruments missing from bards when they sing to people suddenly missing that were there a month ago. I don't have dawnguard installed because I don't have it yet. Don't even want to play it until it is patched at least once officially. The worst thing about all of this is that I am probably not the only one that has these same complaints and experiences.

I wanna make my own ebony armor mod but I am having some trouble with the textures. I think ebony armor should look like a perfectly black surface like that obelisk thing from space 2001 movie or if anyone remembers that movie sphere. Basically a reflective surface completely black, ominous and unknown with no scratches or pits or marks of any kind that make it look like it can take damage. So I started to work on this idea today and noticed that I can't get the reflection to look right. No matter what I do, the reflective areas always look like plastic or rubber or pvc or some porno outfit lol. Also there is some kind of squares or what look more like tetris shaped things in the texture if I zoom in real close in game. I spotted some of this in the normal map and applied a blur filter to get rid of it but it didn't completely go away. There seems to be no way of making a perfectly smooth metallic surface in this game? Could this be the fault of the mesh or a setting on the mesh file that can be changed in nifskope? I have tried many ebony textures and just can't get used to them, I end up seeing all the faults at some point and want to upgrade to something better but there is nothing better or less faulty at some point. I tried blacking out the regular texture with a dark black color and using a greyscale version of a good regular texture same resolution for the m.dds file or evnironment map. I also tried that same texture as the alpha map for the normal map texture. I also tried blacking out everything completely except the environment map. That is where I can see those little squares and crap reflection quality. Oh sure the regular textures properly applied and normal map too will hide some of it but the reflection still looks like crap. It doesn't look like real metal just shiny plastic. I tried pumping up the numbers in nifskope like gloss and environment map strength too but that just made any regular textures look like shiny poo:-( At some point I will have to compromise I jut hate to do it and wondered if anyone else has run into this yet?

Help me upgrade or buy a new PC please
dragonslayer2k12 replied to Mookeylama's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Don't waste money on SLI/crossfire it is not necesasry to run any game. That sort of thing is for the watercooling types that like to get a three or six screen setup going and three or four video cards all watercooled with raid arrays etc. Just one video card will do just fine, I have a 560ti from asus right now but from reading recent online reviews of asus stuff over the last five or six months it would appear to be a bad time to buy asus brand. Gigabyte, evga, xfx brand seem to be doing just fine in reviews on average. I used to have an xfx brand gts250 back in the day and it never went bad. My card can run skyrim ok but I wish I could have found a 2gb version so I wouldn't feel the urge to upgrade for several years. I really don't think the next gen consoles are gonna push graphics any harder than they do now maybe just a few more tricks from dx10 and nothing more. The unreal 3 engine is still around, I think they upgraded it recently or was it a new version unreal 4 engine came out? Can't remember atm but without big time game engine makers backing anything new we won't see it mainstream so it goes consoles/tablets/iphone/ then pc lol. We are always at the bottom now as pc gamers/users it seems like the industry doesn't like us because we think just like they do instead of just give our money without hesitation. They want to dumb down all of us and probably raise the price on games to $80 on average within the next year or so. Sandy bridge pc will be just fine and although ivy bridge uses less power it is a possible problem for heat issues later on. You could always go amd system but they are not nearly as fast as new intel systems but they do cost less. Would be nice to hear from someone running latest amd stuff to comment on how much they spent and what kind of performance they get with skyrim. -

The thing is, now is the worst time for video cards. Drivers have issues on both sides, nvidia has nothing more than some power hungry slight improvements to offer... I read somewhere that the 660ti is only 46% faster than the 560ti. I have a 560ti 1gb card and only skyrim slows it down. All other games do just fine with it. Buying amd would be refreshing if the drivers didn't need patches and tweaking and fixing all the time just to get a game to work normally and not black out textures and faces and UI graphics in various games. But you probably have better chance of finding 2gb models in better price range with amd right now. Next year probably later on next year some new consoles will come out and finally some new cards from both companies too so then would be a better time to go new. Also both intel and amd might have something released in cpu that is better than what they have now and use less power. -
Because you have to then wear that stuff that you just enchanted and do it all again and keep doing that over and over until it says 29% on each item. Also you can wear a falmer helmet or jagged crown at the same time as a circlet which can also be enchanted with fortify alchemy. I did this on my first playthrough and got all my alchemist items up to 29% on each item and when I make an enchanting potion it goes up to 37% above normal and smithing enchantment goes up to 147% above normal. There is a bug in the game that has something to do with restoration magic which can get you higher and higher on each fortify alchemy enchantment set and you can go on indefinitely with that process so 1000% is possible according to what is said about this bug. Search youtube for it you will find it right away and I think it even works on greedbox 360 too.

Texture mods would be the first thing that comes to mind where performance takes a hit. Using 2k or higher will start the process of slowing things down, go up to 4k and it gets worse. Then lengthy scripting mods will probably add to that slowdown just a bit and if the scripts have errors then the game messes up a lot and corrupts your save game file eventually. That ENB stuff will cost you some FPS here and there too but it does make the game look better. You could just try slimming down to the unofficial skyrim patch and some other basic mods and ENB and see how it goes.

Well, they gotta leave room for DLC so some wimpy character is probably gonna limp into the position of high king about a year from now. Remember those vigilant guys before patch 1.6? We were all wondering what to do with their crappy little club that we couldn't play in and now we know why thanks to dawnguard. Probably the official storyline will go that ulfric was defeated but the emporer was assasinated. So some new characters will come from the moot meeting whatever that is and the emporer probably had a hidden heir somewhere just in case. Wether or not the player is still considered the dragonborn or not though would be interesting. To start off as a new character and no more dragons because they are off playing somewhere with the dragonborn so we can focus on destroying the thalmor. At this point they might as well do those things because we know they are making an MMO that is set in a different timeline and if it flops or not they will still move the story of the universe to a later point in time after skyrim anyway if they wanna keep making money. I think maybe they were trying to cash in on the last little bit of twilight sensation left in reality lol with all that vampire/warewolf crap but that was just stomped out of existence by the main actors of those movies:-) So here is to hopefully not seeing any vamps and wolves anymore and instead something else (probably werebears ugh) but better than nothing which is what will happen if the MMO becomes popular. Oh man they will drop sp campaign like a flaming bag of poo if that MMO garbage takes off! The graphics look so awful and it looks like WOW or something similar EEEWWW! I hate WOW and blizzard they suck so bad. That is all we need is the next big thing in gold farming shoved into the next TES game. So I hope that junk fails hard and they figure out how to make a new game engine too please don't use unreal3 lol.

From what I have experienced emachines power supply had no surge protection at all. So when the computer got a surge from the power company or a storm it would kill the cpu, motherboard, hard drive, dvd drive, and even the keyboard and mouse! That company really wanted people to buy more stuff more often. Best thing to do is find a cheap core2duo and pop in a gtx550ti video card. You can get 4gb or even 8gb of ram for just $40 or less depending on where you live in the world. With a setup like that you could run on medium settings but you would have to do a lot of tweaking and checking. At least you could run it that way for a good price and beats greedbox graphics any day.

My first playthrough was completely vanilla and it was also chock full of bugs. I hated pulling out the console to fix things on a regular basis just enough to progress through the story. The unofficial skyrim patch is supposed to fix a lot of stuff maybe even that voice fix? There are some things that simply can't be fixed though like radiant quests conflicting with story quests so you have to find some guy in a cave somewhere and when you get there you discover only an empty chair with a quest marker over it. I am fairly certain that beth just doesn't care to fix anything they only want to keep adding DLC and let the unofficial skyrim patch crew sort it out for them. I bet the bugs in the greedbox version of the game are next to none? My only major complaints are too many dragons, those annoying fish that can barely hurt you but your follower will get all OCD on you trying to kill any fish in the entire country while a dragon lighting a fire under your arse and don't ever try to get anywhere near a stream or cross a stream with a follower and don't ever try to go billygoat with the mountains your follower can't keep up they will get lost and never come back without console intervention. Why there had to be so many high mountains and OCD fish is beyond me. The game took a long long time to play all the way through and go completionist with it but if you forget all the side stuff it can be done in a short time. I think a lot of people eventually do the side quests though just to have something to do in the game when they are bored of main quest or doing their own thing. Once you get all the way through you kinda don't want to do it again for a while and that is where the modding bug bites you! I plan on playing all the way through again but this time with mods and improvements and fixes because I don't want to go through that whole experience again looking and working exactly the same that would be boring.

Gonna check that one out thanks! Well it has to have some dragons in the beginning because it seems that when the player first arrives at a minor hold they are not exactly welcomed or whatever. This is also true at orc strongholds. But if the player kills a dragon right there in the middle of town well then, everyone has to come and see what happened and suddenly things marked steal are not marked take and everyone is kinda happy to see you. Orcs respect strength so if you down a dragon in their hold they are more than happy to see you. So basically if the player completes the main quest that is when the dragon traffic could slow down a lot and no more attacking in minor holds it is not needed anymore for story progression.
-
Do not upgrade that old computer! Check your local pc store for a refurbished core2duo with 2gigs ram and you could always move your old hard drive to that other computer.
-
I have been asking for this for a while now but notobdy responded lol. Would be better if the less dragons mod had an option to simply stop them from attacking minor holds if the player has completed the main quest. Basically the player becomes the leader/head of everything AND kills the very end of the world and all he gets for it is some snarky comments from city guards and no respect from any npc other than the grey beards or the yarl of whiterun. NPC should be bowing at the player feet, make him a yarl of a minor hold or something. Women should be following him around or for female players men should be follwing him around lol. Outside of any hold it would be fair game for dragons but inside of minor holds they should no longer attack out of respect for the player who could now easily slay them anyway.

Trying to add a glow effect to an existing item
dragonslayer2k12 replied to USSVagrant's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I want to add an FX effect on a ring while the player is wearing it. The art tab in armoraddon in ck does the glowy bit for when I am looking at the item in my inventory but how do I make it show an effect from 3rd person view while wearing it? Thinking about the shock hand effect from the shock spell or magic and some other hand FX for other things. -
Would be nice to get a book mod that gives you all books that are non skill, then separate option for skill books only, then separate option for quest books only and leave the notes and other stuff out of it. I searched the mods here and there are only a few and they just give you everything using a batch file.

Why is your game crashing? I have not read any of your previous posts so I don't know what you have done to resolve crashing. I am assuming you have done the basics already for your computer, check for viruses and spyware and get rid of them and also check for boot sector infecting root kits with something like kapersky TDSS killer. Spybot search and destroy and nod32 or kapersky are great for removing anything and everything bad. After that it can be narrowed down to OS and hardware, corrupted windows, windows files damaged by viruses and spyware and have to be replaced etc. Don't ever get the omalarik trojan virus! That mess will attach to exe and dll files and then self encrypt with five different encryption methods that can't be cracked by any antivirus to date so the file can never be cleaned it has to be deleted! That virus might as well be like cancer or aids for a computer because you can't clean it only delete it. Better to backup and reload anyway after getting rid of virus and spyware for peace of mind. If you have a desktop, try not to overclock for a while and get the latest drivers for everything except the video card. Using nvidia cards is a pain lately because of all the adobe flash crash to desktop issues in win7. Using amd cards their drivers are always bugged slightly and at some point you get the BSOD crash and the computer can't start windows anymore. Actually I haven't seen that one in a while I hope it never comes back it has kept me away from amd/ati for almost ten years now. I want to jump ship to amd just to get away from the adobe ctd crap because it happens in photoshop too but I just can't see an end to the driver screwups from amd they are always there in just about every game some kind of fix or patch has to be made/found like progress bars not working in skyrim etc. So if you have nvidia it seems some of their older drivers work better than new one and for amd it comes down to patches. If you are using an ssd drive make sure you have the latest firmware in it. Also if you have an ocz or adata ssd drive then you will have problems. Better brands are intel, crucial and samsung. After that is all squared away then it comes down to memory and mobo brands and settings and power supply brand and wattage. I don't care what anyone says, running SLI or crossfire with only a 600watt psu is not gonna work right if the video cards eat 100watts each or more. Then try overclocking too lol that is just not gonna work. I run an 850watt psu myself from brands like zalman and cougar and corsair etc. the good brands only. Those cheap brands that you probably never heard of but the shelves are full of them at the store are hardware killers don't use them. First time you get a power surge or a brown out or black out in your area those things take your hardware with them. Ultimately the best thing to do is keep narrowing your situation down until you have the bare minimum running because that is when the problem child is revealed and you can stomp it to death on the floor and then replace it lol. Bad memory and questionable motherboards are somewhat common problems these days. I have seen more complaints for mobo brands like msi, evga, and the small guys like biostar and shuttle than other companies like gigabyte and asus or intel but recently asus is starting to bug people a lot with flaky or bad memory slots and bad usb connectors... that kind of stuff only happend with msi and biostar back in the day. There is no reason to buy cheap brand memory because the market is still flooded with memory and the prices are all about the same for almost any brand. What I have... Gigabyte mobo X58A-OC intel core i7 960 overclocked to 4ghz 12gb triple channel ram supertalent brand @1600mhz Creative labs X-FI sound card with the 64mb memory onboard and the lame letter F on the top Crucial m4 128gb SSD drive for OS samsung SSD PM800 256gb drive for apps and games Win764bit OS Cougar SX S850 power supply 850watts Scythe ninja big square cooler with one fan on top Silverstone Raven 2 case with sideways hard drive arrangement Fancy fan controller and aftermarket fan in the top exhaust position So I am overclocking on air and it works great but I have to clean the dust filters every few days or my pc will crash in the summer, winter not so much. Had this rig for a year now and it works great but since I am running my memory at 1600mhz it causes my system to crash eventually because the X58 chipset on my mobo doesn't like large size ram sticks 4gb or greater running at 1600mhz even if they are designed to run at that speed. So I will have to lower my speed soon unless I want to keep crashing but I want to maintain my 4ghz overclock so it is a tossup at this point. If you are not overclocking you should not be having any crashes on good hardware with firmware fixed SSD drives or retail regular drives. Even old sata drives don't cause crashing unless they are really crappy brand with known firmware bug like seagate with their firmware issues many years ago. Only current model regular drives that come to mind for avoiding are western digital green power drives, they go bad so much ugh. Even if they are not the main drive they can stall the computer with their snorlax programming! If you get down to just one drive, one stick of memory, one video card, sound but no internet and no fancy usb3 drivers, no card readers or extra stuff no firewire addons, no extra cards pci or pci-e, just win7 or whatever your running with and latest drivers except for known good video drivers and patches if needed and nothing on the computer but your OS and all the latest windows updates and skyrim latest version don't use HD packs or dawnguard. If you crash after that then something very basic is wrong with your computer. Either video card, memory or motherboard or cpu. As long as you have a good brand psu and it is recent and no bad storms in the area in the last few months then it can be narrowed down and found. Again I have not read any of your past posts so I don't know your situation but if the above should help to isolate the problem. It also helps to have a local friend or computer store that is willing to test with different video card, ram, hard drive etc.

My installed mods...your thoughts?
dragonslayer2k12 replied to jeboots's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I wanna try cbbe but not all the default clothes and armor work for it yet and he hasn't chimed in for a while now. Got the 2kHD mod from that guy it works great no problems running it. Haven't tried a lot of the other stuff because the big mods change a lot of stuff in the game and cause conflicts with other mods so time has to be spent in wyre bash or something similar and it takes forever to fix all that stuff up just right. There are some things that everybody wants change and then everything else is dependant on the player personal style and characters. -
Solid State Hard drives
dragonslayer2k12 replied to Thor.'s topic in Hardware and software discussion
Wait for better chips for the USB 3.0 controller because those things can't sustain their advertised transfer rates from start to finish. There was an article on tomshardware about that and how backwards compatibility was messing up USB 3.0 and you could hack a driver for asus mobos to only use USB 3.0 and no compatibility and it would go faster but it still wasn't what it should be. You can go with your idea and it will work but you will see bottlenecks because of it. Thunderbolt tech is coming to pc so we will see drives for that and probably external video cards for laptops so maybe at some point SLI will be two cards in an external box plugged into thunderbolt port and inside that box will be the SLI bridge connecter and small power supply just enough to run the cards. No more high priced 1000watt psu no more giant pc case! Leave that cardsinabox at home and take your ultrabook anywhere then come home and plug into a docking station and game all you want without overheating the ultrabook/laptop. I think at some point in time it will be that way to simplify things and get more people buying high end components that don't have to know how to install them. It is either that or we lose desktop gaming to crap companies like onlive where you stream everything through a cell phone or an ipad EEEWWWW! -
YEESSSSSSS! I tried to go all assasins creed in my first playthrough around lvl 30 or so with dual daggers and power attacks! But that got smacked down by that brawler guy in the ratways of riften with the unarmed attack bonus gloves. He kill moved me the first tme made my assasin look dumb lol so I came back in dragon bone armor and kicked his arse! Finished him off with a body slam! But after that I wasted time double enchanting all my gloves with unarmed attack bonus lol. Doing the stealth perks all the way up and getting into the dark brotherhood is the only way to have fun with an assasin character so it is kinda limiting. If only there was a dagger that was half as long as a sword and not so short as default dagger then it would be better combat.
-
So far the thing that is really boring for me right now is dwenmer ruins. They are huge especially that one ruin with the researcher guy that lived there. Really boring traveling through all those ruins on every playthrough. No matter what you will always have to travel those ruins and put up with the falmer every single time. Just glad the falmer can't talk cuz the first thing they would probably say is "space marine space marine!" in a really bad accent lol played too much of that game when it came out and they just look so similar.

Werebear DLC: how would people feel about DLC
dragonslayer2k12 replied to SpellAndShield's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Two of the most annoying things in the game, vampires and LOUD BEARS! get together and have a kid and he just can't stay outta trouble... derp de derp derp derp Rob Schneider stars as *censored*y the werebear in derp derp derp de derp! Why is it that many game companies when doing DLC (because they could have just put it in the game) decide to do the dumbest things they can do? Even worse are publicly held game companies and somehow they don't fear the shareholders enough to even do decent DLC and they never learn from their past choices. Almost like marketing depts are made up entirely of rooms full of monkeys and typewriters er uh computers lol. Throw them together in a room and eventually something comes out just not anything good. Then the fans you know, paying customers make their own mods aka free DLC and it is much better than the official stuff. I am sure that the modder interest in a game is some kind of metric that major game companies list when talking to their shareholders/investors. -
Oh yes, such a thing might lead to clean by default clothes that get dirty over time and can be cleaned by the clothes iron default game item. Why would beth put a clothes iron in the game except maybe they are leaving an option available to them as future DLC? Extensions to spouse activity or something like that. Clothes should get dirty over time, be possible to clean and restore to original condition. Armor should be crap looking by default and get better looking with tempering, weapons too. The only problem with armor and weapons changing appearance is the repair system might come back too because it kinda makes sense that weapons and armor need to be repaired after a battle particularly weapons like swords. I am still learning and want to do a mod of someone else mod as part of a new mod kind of a helper mod that helps the player with things and I want to do an ebony mod lol who doesn't? There are not enough options and details in ebony which is strange because ebony armor and weapons are very very detailed looking. If I knew how to do 3d modelling for this game and had the time I would redo the glass armor first. There was a mod that fixed rigging for meshes like ebony and clothes on this site the author has not commented in a long time now but his files still work as a resource. Actually I am still running some mods made with 1.5 that haven't been updated yet and they still work but they lose load order to mods made with 1.6 and 1.7 though. The only problem with making a mod that changes the appearance of all default weapons and armor and clothes is the amount of work needed to make it happen.
-
YEAH! Finally finished my mod and got it uploaded and added some images for it too. The mod is called thanes reward and it is a hefty 178mb! Using 2k textures will make the file size big I guess.
