Hmm I guess it does look that way huh? Well if I can get some free time soon I will try to learn what I can then. Good to know that it is possible though, so at some point I will be able to get it going.

Hey that looks great! My only gripe about the akaviri stuff is that the armor has some really low poly stuff on the shoulders. Would be nice to see some custom models that look like old japanese samurai armors of various types. Some of them had scary looking masks some did not etc.
I end up wearing one of the dragon priest masks and the ebony mail with akaviri gloves and boots at some point when trying be an assasin on my own not part of the brotherhood or anything but the boots clip through the mail a lot and they make my feet look too small. Would be nice to see some slightly bigger feet for the boots if possible but not as big as that pic of the orc lol those are some biiiiiiiiiig feet hehe (insert joke about big feet means other things are big here) so if you are good at modelling it will go a long way with making the akaviri stuff better.
Hey could you try some chrome or steel looking armor too? Others have done it on this site but it doesn't look good looks too loud or plain.

My first playthrough I did the civil war last simply because I thought there would be a better way to solve the civil war problem after beating the main quest but that wasn't the case.
Early in my travels to the west I wandered into a fort with a bunch of dead stormcloaks laying around. The fort was occupied by some evil magic types so I slew them all but it was hard to do at a low level. After they were all dead and looted I went outside and some stormcloaks walked up into the fort and began to occupy it and told me about ulfric blah blah. Later on after traveling through there again there was just one stormcloak there all by himself just standing there in the middle of the fort outside. I could talk to him but he wouldn't move from there.
I guess after the civil war is done if you fight for the stormcloaks maybe more of them are hanging around there but if you fight for the empire do the imperials occupy that fort normally or does just one of them stand around there?
As you go through the game you get some more help the stormcloaks quests even though you aren't with them or with the imperials either. Makes you think the stormcloaks are the good guys but later things are different. If you do the civil war first you miss out on the interactions you can get with both sides for example if you are not fast traveling and need to sell some stuff but the only place nearby is a stormcloak or imperial camp and you are on the other side in the war you can't go there unless you want to fight them. But if you are neutral you can sell stuff to them and make money faster.
By waiting until after the main quest to do the civil war I was able to accumulate a lot of money and a lot of loot because I also did the thieves guild quests earlier too and I had no problems with buying things I needed or wanted I just wish I had something to do with all that money at some point. I got to sit at a table and listen to two sides bicker at each other and feel all important making decisions lol. Also got to decide the fate of dawnstar and winterhold. Dawnstar needed a new jarl badly but winterhold would have been fine either way who cares what the locals think of the college there. Too bad that drunk guy never came back after I completed his find the lost friend quest for him. It was strange that he just never came back.
I wish that the stormcloaks could have maintained control of falkreath though so that jarl stuhn could have been put back into power and get rid of his lazy good for nothing son. But I don't understand why the lazy jarl's assistant had to go she could have just helped stuhn or worked in town somewhere instead of hating on me in windhelm. Oh but I bet things like that will be left up to future DLC darnit forgot about that:-(

Just a quick idea...
Samurai mage character:-)
-
Would be nice to marry the player character to the queen in the blue palace she seems to like the player character a lot:-) But as we have seen in oblivion the player character is just a vehicle to power for some other character at the end of the story. I too would rather have the nords go independent but the writers for this game threw in the racist stuff and it pisses me off. Why would a people that seem to care so much for honor and tradition have racist problems? The writers could have left out the racist stuff and they could have wrapped up the story with a unified goal or the player could choose at the end to participate in a duel for one side or the other to decide who runs skyrim instead of sacking the whole country, tearing up towns and making hot lookin queens boohoo on the throne about ulfric winning. Maybe the player could have also challenged ulfric to a duel if they played as a nord and win independence for skyrim while putting that other nord guy on the throne as jarl of windhelm that is there when ulfric dies?
I don't like the imperials, I don't care for them ever since oblivion and those jerk guards I ended up fighting them a lot for talking trash lol. I don't like ulfric because he is a power hungry dictator more so than a nord that cares for skyrim. The other races in skyrim can stay as long as they want or need to but some parts of skyrim are for the nords. Nords come from skyrim and it would be lame to see all kinds of other races just everywhere overnight. So the other races would get help restoring old abandoned towns and forts etc as a place for them to grow and to help cut down on bandit hideouts so there is some positive things for other races to do that nords can be happy with. See the writers could have thought up this stuff but it would seem less dramatic but not if it was an end of game goal or secondary main quest series of goals for the player. They could be drawn out quests like barenziah jewels so there is more to do after finishing the main quest. I really hated watching balgruff get his butt kicked and find out his kids go missing later on if ulfric wins. They could have just left whiterun out of it until later if the player killed ulfric but decided that skyrim should be independent and then balgruff would agree because he might have more respect for the player than he had for ulfric?

For quite some time now maybe several years, shadows in pc games have looked like crap. Remember that gamestop tv commercial for that game prototype? The character was running around on a balcony or something. You could see crappy blocky shadows all over his face.
There is the problem of z fighting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z-fighting
Lazy programmers won't update their game engines to deal with it and nvidia and amd don't seem to care about legacy game support but for some reason this kind of crap is still around even in new games I dunno why.
I don't think there will ever be a true fix for it until the next generation of consoles comes out:-(
Edit
Forgot to say that I have the same video card as you!
My specs...
Asus 560ti 1gb card
Gigabyte X58OC mobo with intel core i7 960 overclocked to 4GHZ:-)
12GB pc1600mhz ram triple channel running @1600mhz
Crucial m4 128gb ssd drive as OS drive and samsung ssd drive for program drive 256gb.
Creative X-FI sound card with 64mb audio ram some guy name on it starts with F lol yes I know who he is being sarcastic here.
Cougar SX S850 power supply yeah it still works after a year go figure some of them do work lol.
Silverstone RV02 case later model with sideways HDD rack.
If I load the official HD texture packs, the game runs slow on ultra and when it doesn't run slow in some areas if I play too long it will get slow soon so I run on high without the HD packs and turned down some AA and AF I think.
Running at 1080p on a 27 inch lcd monitor yeaaaaaahhhh:-)
I am thinking about upgrading to a faster card with 2GB ram next year just waiting for the dust to settle on nvidia and amd. Right now is a terrible time to buy computer stuff it is full price everywhere during the summer time. Jan/feb next year the retailers will be looking to clear out their inventories and things will be cheap. Even the upgraded 560ti with 448 cores might be available with 2GB ram for cheap hopefully less than 200 by next year. Also the power requirements for 600 series is crazy! No way I am gonna spend that much electricity to play a game it is bad enough with the 500 series. Also I don't want a space heater/leaf blower for a video card.

More specifically lydia, she likes to stand around a lot before following and if you move too fast she will lose sight of you. I hate having to babysit my followers in this game, they constantly get stuck, lost won't jump down sometimes I really can't stand that and it messes with my plans to level each follower equally. I noticed that the girl you get in riften follows too closely and seems to run into the player a lot. Would also be nice to see a fix for the follower jumping right in front of you during combat! I really hate this because at some point lydia does it a lot and she ends up looking kinda pissed all the time afterwards lol. Maybe make them stand to the side to give the player a clear shot? The only benefit of the follower jumping in front of the player is if the player is low level but has good healing powers and it does make leveling the follower easier because they see all the action but the player doesn't level up in combat much.

Well that is the problem with these ideas is that I am just starting out and I have no knowledge of advanced 3d modelling or texturing. Some items will require a new mesh at the higher and highest smithing levels that looks a lot better than the original and as said about weapons the gems/jewels would have to be modeled in too and textures setup properly too. So it will take some time, a long time for me to get to that point but if someone out there on these forums or elsewhere can figure out how to turn these ideas into reality that would probably go a lot faster.
I did find out today though that I am not the only one with this idea!
http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1386860-improve-a-weapon-with-a-new-model/
User MrJack over there had this to say:
Perhaps there is a way of checking how much the weapon has been improved and when you reach a certain point simply replace the weapon with another weapon (with the modified model)? If there is a way to check which sHealthDataPrefixWeap# (# can be 1-6) a weapon has, then it might be possible to do a switch.
I really need to spend some time digging into the details of the creation kit it seems.

There is that 2k texture mod around here somewhere and if you take some bits and pieces from the official HD patch and just throw them in the game directory instead of using the whole patch the game runs better. The official HD patch has some bugs that mess up the game cause stuttering sometimes for me. I have the same video card as you and latest drivers. Sometimes If I get anywhere near a fire the game slows to a crawl if the HD patch is enabled. But extracting HD armors from the patch seem to do ok. I am trying to find a good mix between what works from the official HD patch and that guy 2k texture mod and some other texture mods for clothes and fancy clothes. Haven't tried CBBEv3 yet but want to get to it later though and better hair mods too but some of them look way too metro for my taste lol.

The fun of the horse riding if you are old enough to remember probably came from playing that first zelda64 game on the nintendo 64 system. That was fun at the time shooting arrows from that horse while riding and now all these years later here it is in skyrim!
Like you said the people here probably talked about the lore more than the developers ever did and that is because these days it is only about money not art or culture or anything else. So we have to depend on the modding community every time a game comes out to fill in the gaps left by the developers. I really hate that because the best experience of a video game is the first time you play it and know nothing about it yet. Bugs and left out lore ruin the immersion and the first time experience to an extent.

This happened in vanilla game and also after I added my own version of someone else mod so it seems consistent. The mod I made adds silver ebony armor and mail to the game as completely new items. They are craftable in the forge and findable in the world and buyable in the world. I have never made any weapons mods and still don't have any weapons mods installed. The name bug happened in riften, I had been collecting ancient nord swords and greatswords from nearby ruins and just dumping them in the main chest at the player house in riften. I had some ancient nord swords in there and then came back later with a nord hero sword that I had enchanted with two enchantments and custom named. So I dropped that sword in the chest and went out with some other weapons maybe they were daggers I ended up enchanting and then came back later to get my gear and noticed the name had changed. The enchantments were still there but the name went back to default nord hero sword.
Thanks for posting why the damage stats change I didn't think the experience level would change a weapon instantly like that even without smithing first. Also I had that amulet from the three brothers that killed their dad that wore the amulet originally blah blah and I took it off and put it on a lot depending on what I was doing. I would usually change to a better prices necklace and that one dragon priest mask that gets better prices when in town to get better prices for stuff I looted or found outside.
Edit
Oh wait I think I remember that maybe at one time that sword was on the shield rack above the fireplace in my house in riften and it is a known bug that rack messes up things so maybe it came from there hmm:-(

Another idea, how to change what the player is given when they become thane?
I want to add the guard shield for each city to the items given to the player when they become thane. Currently there is one quest for solitude that gets the player the solitude shield when they complete the quest so only the rest of the city shields need to be altered but where to find the list that shows what the player is given for thane? Maybe give the player some guard armor and helmet too so it all goes together. I don't think I am the only one that hangs the city shield in the player owned house on the shield rack above the bed and puts the thane badge of office weapon that that rack too? If I find out how to do this stuff I will post it here.

I wish I had the knowledge and experience to make my own meshes because I would love to replace the glass armor. I thought about altering the textures like a lot of other people on here have done but in the end I decided to wait and see if I can learn how to model and try to do it the better way. I know it takes a long time to learn and you just want to play the game more than anything but there is some fun in modding from scratch. The hardest thing has to be all the details like weight calculations and texturing. Maybe someone that is really good and modelling can help you out with a design?
I played through the whole game and tried all different kinds of armor combinations, some of the best looking stuff mashed together are ebony and dragonbone/dragonscale and maybe daedric. Get some silver ebony armor mods and it looks even better with dragonbone/dragonscale. I tried glass and elven but the color difference is a put off in some configurations. There are some steel elven and glass mods though so maybe mixing those together would look better?
-
Many times if I had an ancient nord sword of any kind and then had a nord hero sword too in my inventory then stored it in a chest in my house and then came back later to get one or the other the stats would be different and the custom name if any would be gone.
Also if I have used a grinding wheel even if didn't smith anything just used the wheel, the stats would go back to normal on all weapons in my inventory but sooner or later they would increase again. Dragonbane would go to nearly 300 and so would any ancient nord swords, nord hero swords and skyforge steel swords and steel swords. Did they fix this in v1.6 because I have not updated yet for fear of recent 1.6 bugs.

WOW!
I wish I had replied in this thread AFTER reading it instead of where I first replied some days ago in another thread about the story of this game.
Didn't read a lot but some and agree with imperistan about a lot of things.
What I can't stand is the story of this game it is really messed up. The writers want you to pick a side and stick to the consequences of it but there doesn't have to be an all out victory for one side or the other. They could instead be convinced by the dragonborn and his slaying of the head dragon and trip to heaven and back aka sovengarde to cooperate and wipe out the thalmor. I haven't done the dark brotherhood quests yet because I got all worked up and just wiped them out for commander maro but I am sure I missed something in there about WHY a certain emporer had to go not just that he had to go.
Of course I am sure that a DLC will be made that allows this cooperation but how will they solve the problem of the player finishing one side or the other of the civil war if they make such a cooperative DLC? So they can't do that they have to instead just make it so that either the player becomes the high king if they sided with the empire or some important npc does that likes the player and then the story goes on to defeat the thalmor. I doubt we will see the defeat of the aldmeri dominon in a DLC but thalmor hunting will do just fine.
I lopped a thalmors head off once near falkreath during some magic quest after finishing that college quest line and becoming arch mage. Watching that jerk thalmors head roll down the hill was awesome and would have been even better if the game had bugged out and kept the head spouting thalmor snobbery the whole way down the hill lol.
hopefully there will be some DLC or exansion at some point that allows the player to slay certain daedra... I am sure that hall of the vigilant would finally be useful for something in such a thing why is it there in the first place anyway?
The only thing that makes sense in relation to not wiping out the thalmor is that some kind of DLC could be made that explains what happened to the falmer and only the thalmor really know or something like that. Keep in mind that elves have been oppressed in the storyline too so looking at the whole story after going through it I think that sort of thing will come out sooner or later.
Oh and I voted the empire are the good guys only because I have played through both sides of the civil war quests and it really looks like the writers were trying to make the empire look better overall. Crying queens and smashed up imperial holds with missing kids of a jarl and some burning imperial owned houses makes me think that I should not have sided with ulfric. But I wish that I could have kept certain holds under stormcloak control to get rid of certain sorry arse jarls and keep more corrut rulers out in favor of clueless rulers that are supposed to be good lol talkin bout you riften!
-
Yeah would be nice to know that stuff. I wiped out the dark brotherhood right away just did the quest for it without hesitation. Later I found out I missed a lot of good quests with the dark brotherhood:-( I hate the thieves guild I would rather just wipe them all out and clean up riften but that is not how the game works. Need the thieves guild for finishing a major quest that drags on throughout the game.
I would like to think that most people don't want to be these things...
Thief, cannibal, nightingale weirdo, servant of some bad daedra like botheia bothellia whatever her name is, killer of friends for that ebony blade quest, dark brotherhood assasin.
I know I don't want to be these things and the game doesn't recognize the details of when the player is one or more of these things and how it should conflict with interacting with certain npc like maven black briar. She at some point talks to you about being a big part of the thieves guild during a ceremony but her dialogue doesn't change later on when she tells you that she can send the dark brotherhood or the thieves guild after you lol. Things like that are annoying they should have worked on that more. That makes me feel less inclined to do those quests next time around and it breaks immersion too so it changes what I would consider doing again or maybe for the first time later on. So maybe there are some percentages for that stuff too?
-
Every time I fast traveled to morthal, two dead spiders would just spawn near me mostly in front of me for a while until I did most of the quests there. After that it stopped happening. Also when I get near the black briar merc house near riften for the first time but not too near it... this nord guy can't remember his name comes at me with an ax or something totally nuts trying to kill me! He has some war paint on his face and long hair. Name started with an s maybe? I remember I had just got to the side of a stream and was about to cross it when he showed up.

I know I had a thread here somewhere with some ideas but it is gone now. I was asking in that thread is it possible to do some things with this game and so I will try to be more specific this time.
I want to know is it possible to make the game use different mesh and textures for an item each time it is improved/smithed? There seem to be only a few levels of smithing and they top out at the legendary level. What if there was a mod that had different mesh and textures for an armor or a weapon each time it was smithed? That would be cool:-) I don't think anyone has done this yet maybe because it is not possible? I know how to use some of the basics of the creation kit... made a modded armor I found into a buyable and craftable and used by npc item and finally got it working correctly a while back. So I was looking through the menus and stuff but so far I am thinking it would have to be done with papyrus scripting? Also something that might break a mod like this would be those dragon priest masks because they lose their smithing when you put them on their storage carving in that one building later on in the game.
It just seems kinda lame to have improved something and it doesn't visually change. So here is a basic list of how this kind of mod would work.
There would be the basic version of the item that you can buy from the store or craft so it looks new or recent and then there would be the basic version that you found in a cave or a ruin so it looks old and worn out.
Smithing the found version one time at low level smithing like for example the player is only at level 10 or something, so the smithing they do is minor, that would make the worn out found item look like it was just made or bought.
After that the next level of smithing would move the item to the next mesh and texture level of that item. So there would be one set for each major level of smithing and the highest level looking the best.
Armor that has pauldrons and doodads would not have them at the lowest level. They would slowly add on as the smithing of that item went up.
Weapons would get gems and jewels added to them at the higher levels and when enchanted the gems and jewels portions would glow when the weapon is drawn like that big orc daedric hammer can't remember name atm it had that red glowing jewel in the middle.
Rings and necklaces would look crappy and basic too and as the player reached a higher smithing experience level the jewelry they create would look better and if enchanted it too would have glowing gems/jewels.
I AM NOT ASKING anyone to make this I am asking if it is possible to make this, I don't want my thread to dissapear again maybe the last one looked like I was making a request but I was not. There must be some experienced scripters here in papyrus that can tell me if this would work or not. Trying to think of some instance during a quest or in game where something similar occurs but can't remember atm.

Just wait for a dragon to fly over and then land. Kill the dragon there and if you can manage to get the dragon to land inside the stronghold that would be even better but I don't think they will land inside of the stronghold it is too small to move around there. I talked to all the orcs during the day and did some business with them and then a dragon showed up. I killed the dragon and the usual ooh and aaah happens and then suddenly they are more friendly with you. You will notice that the first time you go to an orc stronghold the items laying around are red so you can't just take them but after killing the dragon there the items can be taken normally. Orcs are impressed by strength primarily so thats why that little trick works so well. The only problem is how to keep the horses from running off and getting BBQ by the dragon or keep the orcs from getting roasted too during the fight. For some reason one or more of any npc character will always end up directly in front of you just before you finally kill the dragon so don't get right up on the dragon if you can avoid it stay at sword length and watch for dumb npc they will somehow clip through the dragon while you are attacking it to get right in front of you.
-
Exactly, it makes me think that at some point in time the head writer of all the games or maybe it was the ceo of the company was in jail for something and he just didn't like being there so we have to suffer through this lame criminal start to the game because of him and his baggage lol.
-
Yeah that was one of the mods I was saying I had seen already. If those horns were not there I would use it but the armor is too gritty and dirty too. I remember seeing something with at least three different loud or semi loud colors just can't find it anymore.
-
I can't stand how every single elderscrolls game starts off with the PC in jail or in trouble. The beginning should be different based on who you start out as. Maybe a nord would get this beginning but not an imperial, Starting out as an imperial should give you a spot on the specops team that captures ulfric so you can see the whole thing from a different perspective. You could still end up in helgen, just that you would be standing next to some officer or whatever watching the executions instead of being part of them. Starting out as something else like breton or lizard you don't even see that whole thing just you wake up in a bed at an inn somewhere but that would only work if the game allowed you to live another life besides dragonborn.
-
I joined the stormcloaks because the empire was trying to kill me and all that. But the end result of stormcloak victory was terrible, lots of royal people boohooing and some cities were all messed up afterwards. So I reverted to an earlier save and went to the empire instead. I noticed that the aftermath of an imperial victory is cleaned up much better than that of the stormcloaks. Either the writers were trying to emphasize just how much of a jerk ulfric really is or they were trying to convey the consequences of joining the wrong side?
I skipped the whole civil war thing until after completing the main quest line to kill the main dragon which made it possible to play some other quests that would have been missed otherwise.
Taking over whiterun for the stormcloaks messed up the jarl's kids, some of his kids were missing after he moved into the basement of the blue palace. So it is obvious that the writers are trying to convey that the stormcloaks are bad ultimately. I hate the empire though, this one corrupt group of imperials south of riften tried to jump me for not paying their stupid fine so I gutted them all and took their stuff. I thought they were supposed to be all civilized and uphold the law? Well guess not for some of them.
The idea of joining a rebellion in a game is more interesting because there is more room to make a difference I think they should have handled the civil war differently so that the battles were not complete takeovers of cities but instead to finally come to an agreement with the empire that no matter what the thalmor want, the people of skyrim will do as they please. Would have been cool to have a team up series of quests afterwards where both the empire and stormcloaks worked together to throw out the thalmor and supply troops to the borders of skyrim and high rock to hold off the aldmeri dominion but I guess that would take away from DLC opportunity later on lol.

Something that has been bugging me since completing all the quests is that places like winterhold and morthal have destroyed buildings that can't be rebuilt and used. Would be nice to have a series of quests for each place like those where the player has to go gather up workers, carpenters craftsmen etc to fix up a town and also merchants and other types that do business to come and live there and do business there. To restore the hold to what it once was and even the weather might get better too if the player recruits a wizard or some other type that can change the weather or make it possible for the player to use clear skies shout to change the weather so it is less harsh or better than it was?

Turn off the dragons temporarily option
