  1. That's the problem with too much realism, though: things get boring. Skyrim has magic and dragons and gods, it's not really that much of a stretch to have a hero who can withstand arrows and swords and lightning to the face, especially with supernatural armour like Daedric or Dragonbone. The problem with things being vastly overpowered for the sake of realism or the game being "more interesting" is that, taken to the logical extreme, any teenaged trainee mage could kill a dragon by flicking his wrist and snapping the dragon's brain stem with telekinesis.
  2. Thanks for the reply :) I think that, though the spells added by those mods are very good and interesting and do give more of an edge, they still just can't compete with a warrior style of combat, which not only does more damage but which is far less squishy, can sprint for longer, tends to have better armour, etc. Those mods are focused around a tactical approach to combat for mages, whereas in my view, mages should be offensively very powerful, but not resilient at all. This is why I came up with the staves mod: it potentially makes crafting skills more relevant for mages, brings in mage weapons that aren't useless and rebalances combat.
  3. Hi everyone, I've been looking for a mod along these lines but have been unable to find one, so here goes my idea for a mod. Staves in Skyrim are virtually useless, and magic seems quite underpowered compared to mêlée or bow combat. So, my idea for a solution is this: craftable staves and possibly off-hand items such as orbs that can be wielded with a spell and will boost the spell's effects. The staves could be made out of normal weapon materials and gems, for instance a dragonbone and diamond staff. Here's an example: Dragonbone and diamond staff, 130% spell effect. Dragonbone and diamond orb, 125% spell effect, stacks to 155%. Both items have, say, Thunderbolt equipped, so dual-cast Thunderbolt = 198*1.55=306.9 for an un-upgraded (can you have that as a word?) staff. The items could then be upgraded through enchanting, or smithing if making an upgrade system for enchanting would be tricky. So, what do you guys think? Is this possible? I am absolutely new to this kind of thing, so I have very little idea of how easy or difficult something like this would be. Is there something similar (I've searched but have been unable to find anything) floating around somewhere? Thank you very much :).
