  1. no need, there are literally patches for paid creations on Bethesda.net. if they were against the ToS they'd have been removed by now.
  2. I'm not bothering to read any more pages of your misunderstanding but in case no one has pointed it out you're conflating dependencies with optional patches. It is against the rules for VC's to be dependent on another mod, paid or free. It is not against the rules for patches, whether they're QoL, compatibility or whatever to be released by the creator or another creator with permission. It's pretty obvious why such a rule exists, it wouldn't be particularly cool to pay for a creation and find out you need to get a script extender or a bunch of libraries or some big overhaul to use it, it also prevents obvious abusive attempts to monetize patches etc. on their platform. You could literally just browse the bethesda.net mod libraries for like 5 minutes to see this in action and see how wrong you are. There is a VC on the starfield creations that enables visible holstered weapons for example, there is a free mod that adds extra weapons to that VC. This is perfectly fine, this patch would funnily enough, not be allowed on NM under these new rules. As for the split, until you've put in the work and become a VC you don't really get to bang on about how fair or not it is, even if you did have the real numbers, which you don't. It's fair enough for a great many of us to be happy to be a part of already so kindly keep it to yourself. edit: I'm even going to go the trouble linking the creations I'm citing: 1. Starfield Creations - Magnetic Weapon Holsters - Paid Mod 2. Starfield Creations - Magnetic Weapon Holsters: Shattered Space - Free compatibility patch Note that 1 does not *depend* on 2 and as such neither breaks the ToS, if 2 however were attempted to be sold, it would not be approved as it *depends* on 1. This is what you are apparently confused about, you're welcome.
  3. The player can play lip animations just like any other actor, idk how alternate conversation is built but theoretically if it were able to run a say method with a no audio topic whenever any dialogue response is selected there's no reason you couldn't do this. Voiced dialogue is out of the question imo, it's not even just a case of workload it's that the dialogue system just doesn't have room for it unless you were to somehow break it all down and rebuild it. Even hacky methods would probably be a compatibility nightmare. Edit: there's a caveat here tho, at least when I was making player voicesets anyway, if the actor isn't visible when the say method is called the lip animations don't play, don't know if that's changed but I doubt it.
  4. In response to post #39487475. #39489255 is also a reply to the same post. Calling it cancer implies it is somehow harmful, which would certainly be the case if there are no alternatives, but pc users are still able to use whatever method of sharing they want. It's a console solution and it works fine to that end. Hyperbolic statements like that are just fuel on this whole dumb fire.
  5. I personally don't mind Bethesda.net, seems fine for a console interface. It's unfortunate that the backend is rough for authors but that'll get better I'm sure. After trying it out on PC the only real problem I have with it is having to leave the game running to actually download anything but I mean, that's clearly just because it works the exact same way as it's console counterpart and is therefore not going to be for most PC users, and that's fine. As an author, I've not really been a part of any of this since modding for Fallout holds zero appeal out of "There's till no smoking mod? Man I'll just make my own, oh someone made one now? Well I made my own anyway so whatever I guess." I'm pretty excited to start throwing stuff to the console community once Skyrim gets released though, especially since some of my colleagues and friends don't game on PC and always got excited when I showed them videos of crap I was working on. With any luck we'll get a CK update too and won't have an unstable hot mess of a tool to use, Fallout's is such a better experience than Skyrim's that the idea of going back to that same crash-fest bums me out. Anyway, happy modding or mod using or whatever, everyone stop being a jerk and email your local Bethesda representative or whatever, here's to maybe another 2000 hours of Creation Kit-ing later this year, hope to see you there! PEACE!

While you're right about the nexus, you're way off base about falskaar given that it was made as Alexander's "application" for employment from Bethesda, while I'm sure Alexander loves to make content and all and I wouldn't dream of making assumptions of what his stance would be here, his mod had the specific goal of gainful employment in mind.

Stop using YouTube as since example of a working system, a mod author is unlikely to upload 30 files a week to get any kind of decent revenue. Why do you think all the popular youtubers run several accounts at once? How many views do you think are generated from garbage shock titles and misleading thumbnails alone? It's not an appropriate comparison so please stop making it.

While not eloquent, he's right. The onus for any of the legal ramifications is on the seller not the consumer. This is exactly the same as people trying to justify their behaviour by arguing "it's the split that's not right!! We did this for you man!" If any of you bothered to go read Bethesda, valve, arthmoor or anyone else involveds articles or blog posts you'd be aware of the legal teams involved and the investments made in this system. The long and short of your stance is simply that you don't want this opportunity to exist to mod authors.

Stop trying to justify yourselves and your beliefs with this "we did it for you guys, that cut wasn't right" nonsense. If that were the issue then it would have been at the forefront of every post, comment and spoken word, but it wasn't. Whether that cut was fair or not was a decision to be made by the seller, nothing more and nothing less. Now that 25% is 0%, way to go, what a great renegotiation. The system needed tweaking and policy changes, not an angry mob tearing it to the ground. If somebody was giving away prints for free and you started seeing their other work in stores would you burn the place down and form a mob to crucify the author? Because that's exactly what happened here.

When you're done with that crystal ball I'd love to see next weeks lottery numbers, thanks. "Bullied out of their dream" may be a tad dramatic for this but it's more or less on point, this is not a scenario where having thicker skin saves you, there were instances of mod authors being harassed to the point of deleting accounts and a hate mob that completely stripped away the possibility of anyone else pursuing an option that had been made available to them. I sincerely doubt anyone was expecting to make a living off of this, but an extra bit of cash from extra work you do, yes, work, even though we're all I assume, here because we enjoy it, it is work we are doing is hardly an unacceptable concept is it?

I don't have a perfect solution, I doubt anyone does, of course there are still going to be people that do it, but change doesn't happen by sitting on your hands. And no, this isn't a problem that's only just visible because of the way we communicate, it's exasperated by the way we communicate, I guarantee you the vast VAST majority of abusive behaviour online would not take place in a real world scenario because A. You are no longer anonymous/a screen name and B. You're probably within distance of people who are not going to just watch. The ability to form a hate mob on the internet in recent years has gotten ridiculous and this is just one more example of it happening.
  14. In response to post #24747119. Maybe because it's a company run by human beings? Money doesn't instantly make you not have feelings, whether it's the feelings of a large quantity of people or not. Bethesda's article looks like a company that was bullied into making a decision, because it was.

I've said this elsewhere but I'll say it again here, the system could have been changed based on feedback, refund policies can be altered, revenue distribution can be renegotiated, content policing can be provided and proven over time. Lastly, of course I can't guarantee a plugin will work in tandem with any other plugins you want to run, no more so than Bethesda can guarantee your game will run once you throw 150 mods into it. With a refund policy that could potentially have been changed to an acceptable system in your eyes though, would it not be a platform worth having?

My final line was to convey just how overwhelming the awful to normal ratio is on the internet, not to suggest that it's me vs the world. That being said the fact that the internet is like that right now doesn't mean it should continue to be and it doesn't give people a free pass to let it. If human beings just said "Well, that's the way it is!" every time something was wrong in society we'd never make progress, this is no different to any other societal problem and it needs a remedy.

Modders get the option to be compensated and then get run off the internet? Yeah, those guys were so corrupt. Give me a freaking break. And as for entitlement working both ways your example only illustrates the entitlement of the userbase more so, just because something has been free for the longest time, doesn't mean it has to forever, expecting that it must is pretty entitled I'd say.

Honestly the decision to ditch the system was disappointing but not exactly world shattering. The hate and the entitlement of the userbase at large however is what's so soul-crushingly hurtful and is clearly what FavoredSoul is getting at too. That harassment, the threats, the "You won't be missed" comments from ignorant people who've likely never even shared a thing with the community. It all paints an awful picture of an audience that frankly don't deserve to have a single thing shared with them. And to the people who have posted "you should expect hate" "get used to it" and the rest of this tripe, you clearly have never been on the receiving end of this behaviour, certainly not en masse, so maybe shut up? There *is* no "getting used" to threats from people you don't know, ever, because you've got no idea what's an 8 year old idiot half way across the globe and who's an unstable lunatic on the other side of town, get it into your skulls that this is NOT okay behaviour and that everyone, including you, needs to take a damn stand. This is getting way too long and seems like I'm directing it all at you jfisha but it's really not. This whole debacle illustrates yet again the major problems with gaming culture and internet culture overall and that there needs to be some kind of major change here. I'm tired of being an island in an ocean of pricks.
  19. In response to post #24745044. #24745229 is also a reply to the same post. The trouble is the users out number the authors by such an incredible ratio that we have no voice, no one is able to speak up for any of us against a tidal wave of entitlement like what we just witnessed this weekend. If you want to *really* feel disgusted go over to reddit and read all the circle jerking "we won" nonsense. It's absolutely shameful.

No way I'm reading down this whole chain cause it looks scary kind of long, but I feel like chiming in. I'm 100% with you FavoredSoul, the most disgusting part about this is authors were given an option to do something we couldn't before and it's been stripped away just because petulant people can't stand the thought of not having access to everything they "deserve". That's all this boils down to, it's the same argument that was happening years ago over DLC, except this time you're hurting people who have shown nothing but incredible amounts of good-will to you for years instead of developers who are already being compensated. And the worst part? Those who did want or try to be compensated are the ones being crucified as "greedy". What's more greedy, asking for $0.99 for the project you've labored over for thousands of hours, or demanding that price shouldn't exist and I should get that for free because I always have before? Because the answer seems pretty damn obvious to me. I've only started to share my plugins in the last couple of years but with the way the audience around the internet in general have acted I doubt I'm going to bother in future and I'm seriously considering making my current files disappear.
  21. In response to post #24741069. #24741234, #24741639, #24741734, #24744934 are all replies on the same post. You can't really make a blanket statement like that in this scenario, it just doesn't apply. I had intended to rustle together some voice actor collaborators and put some more work into one of my plugins with this marketplace system. With the notion of my time and others working with me being compensated I felt justified in investing myself again. Edit: To clarify I'm not actually referring to the Nexus which has been pretty decent about everything from what I've seen, more all this reddit & twitter behaviour. Not every one thinks this is some get-rich-quick scheme and that their mod is the hottest thing out there, in fact I'd wager very very few did or do. Anyway I can't see myself coming back at this point even for fun with the way some people have been treated by the so-called "community", and now all this circle-jerking patting on the back is twisting the knife to be honest.
  22. No idea how active the scene is around here but I'm getting back stuck in with Player Voicesets and I'm looking for some original voicework to help reach the full potential of what's possible here. I've been writing up some rough draft scripts of what I'd like to see, not necessarily to the letter or even the line, I'll post them in spoiler tags below. I'm not just looking for voicework using the dumb scripts I wrote however, if anyone has interest in writing some additional lines for other types of characters, as specific or non-specific or if you just want to voice a specific type of character yourself feel free to just use what I post as a guideline to what events currently exist in my plugin. Both scripts are written to be gender neutral, though the second one I was definitely thinking of something very close to what Gaige (mechromancer) was like in Borderlands 2. I know they're not the best written lines out there, I'm not exactly much of a writer, regardless I'll likely add more bad scripts to this post as I spend precious hours of my life thinking up things I think sound good but actually are lame. Thanks for reading this far and thanks in advance if anyone gives me a hand.
