God! I wish I had the time to tackle this myself. But, I simply don't. Using SafeWaters, GP_Moretta and the Marie Elena, I've sailed from the Imperial City Docks south past Leyawiin Reborn into Topal Bay, past Castle Dunkerlore, west ( with borders turned off ) around the coast of Elsweyr and Valenwood, and north up to Anvil, non stop. I've sailed far out on the open Sea until I could no longer see land. I once, returning to Topal Bay, passed it in a fog, and sailed completely around the coast of Black Marsh and up the Eastern coast of the continent by mistake. What does this mean? It means that there is enough stuff built into the game that a Sailing Overhaul is feasible. What I propose: And I expect OBSE will play a big roll in this. Possibly with functionality that hasn't been invented yet. All ships made sailable. All ships purchasable from owner. With enough persuasion and gold. All ships stealable. Effectively making you a pirate. Guards react to you on a stolen ship the same way as they do when they catch you with stolen loot. NPC and player can walk on the decks of ships while it is moving. Ren has a ship mod that can, apparently, do this. NPC actually use ships to move cargo from port to port. Possible using a path grid or waypoints of some type. Passage can be purchased on a ship. New skill seamanship for NPC's and Players. The higher the skill the better you navigate the ship. New Classes. Pirates, Seafarer, etc. Support for companion mods. Companions can sail the ship for you. Stowing away on a ship is possible with sneak. Ship sailing code made rock solid. No weirdness with falling through decks, etc. Compatible with Open Cities. If your going to have a sailing mod, you might as well go all the way. Support for mods. People can write quests that make use of sailing ships. Support for expansions. People can create new ships and add them. Support for COBL. Anybody up for this challenge? You gotta admit, it would be awesome!
