This mod does that: Loki's Immersion mod https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/139 — I'm loving it! it even introduces mechanics for being able to "meditate" which can temporarily allow you to sense where nearby map pins are (bed, gravestone, boss).

I agree, I would like the option to turn auto-pickup off, or maybe even set which items can be auto-picked up.
