The interface delete worked for me. Apparently you can re-validate with steam to get it back but I couldn't. Main menu gfx are a little funky now. Don't care. Can play game. Thank TF lord.

Old post, but as I just ran into the fix for me and this post pops up pretty high on duckduckgo, I thought i'd mention that deleting your interface folder from "data" in your game's files and then re-validating with steam fixed the problem for me. Thanks to Rakaesa on reddit.
