1072. In Soviet Cyrodiil, axes are maces. Oh, and they weigh as much as a mac truck.
1073. Xivilai use glass weapons instead of daedric weapons despite originating from Oblivion realms.
1074. The Clannfears that Xivilai summon are far more dangerous and annoying than the Xivilai themselves.
1075. This is also true for Spider Daedra spiderlings.

I definitely agree with the topic, and this applies to the guilds as well. You CAN become Archmage, or Listener, or the Gray Fox...but you never actually get to do any leading. You don't have any responsibilities. The empire is left...not an empire by the end of Oblivion, but all continues as normal. The immersion of Oblivion is practically non-existent because of missing elements like these. The world doesn't ever change, and neither does your role in it.

I think Enhanced Hotkeys ( http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34735 ) might be your cup of tea.

This topic truly is the dead horse, isn't it? Still, I can see where the topic creator is coming from, and for some reason I feel the need to add my $0.02. I think there are several reasons why there are two sides to this...
Pro Skimpy arguments
1. Let's get this one out of the way: Stereotypical men like hot women. Some people like Oblivion to be a pure fantasy game.
2. It's a fantasy game; it's a tradition for fantasy games to have scantily-clad-yet-still-powerful women - just look at the Arena poster up there.
3. It's artistic and looks nice.
Anti Skimpy arguments
1. It detracts from realism; it looks ridiculous.
2. It shoves other non-skimpy armor mods out of the way and steals the limelight.
3. It reflects poorly on us as gamers, since it's long been a stereotype that gamers in general are mouth-breathing nerds.
4. And here's one that I notice: Armor mods in general, but especially skimpy ones, just don't "fit in" with the game. It's breaks both progression and immersion.
Personally, I'm somewhat divided. The inner man in me likes skimpy armor, obviously. However, I do think that it overall detracts from the experience. I have mods like the Apachii Goddess Store installed but I rarely if ever use them except for any companions I may use. I've come to the point where I almost always play female characters (I don't know why, though) and I prefer them to be good-looking but not be scantily-clad. However, on the same vein, I dislike most of the vanilla armor greatly, as it's quite ugly. I prefer a balance between conservative and skimpy - you know, like real life. For me, form-fitting but not overly revealing is the sweet spot (wow that sounded perverted, but it's true).
To be honest, I think the main reason I don't like to play games with blatant fanservice girls stems from the fact that I don't like the image that puts on me. It makes me look like a generic nerd/perv to my friends and family.

I can't find any topics or faqs that say anything about how to update/patch a mod through OBMM. For example, I want to install Midas Magic Spells of Aurum which is one file. I can creat the omod no problem. There is also a patch to this mod that is a seperate file. Do I create a seperate omod from the patch or is there a way to integrate the patch into the original omod? I'm sure its something simple that I'm missing but any help on this would be appreciated.
It's easy enough to do. You probably COULD overwrite the original files with the patched ones, but I've found that it's easier to do these simple steps:
1. Turn the non-patched archive into an OMOD.
2. Install said OMOD.
3. Turn the patch into an OMOD.
4. Install said patch after you install the original files. It will overwrite anything that it needs to.

A few ideas from personal experience:
What exactly are you using the glow map for? A normal map will usually work fine for shininess.
Is your texture file "flat"? If you use a graphic program that has Layers, if you press save it will often just save the selected layers (at least, I've noticed that GIMP does this for dds files). You may have saved an empty layer.
Is your file the correct dimensions? From what I can tell, the body's skin texture should be in a multiple of 1024x1024.
Where did you place the skin's files? Are you using a custom race or writing over the High Elf from vanilla Oblivion?
Did you set your High Elves to use the textures under Body Data?
Edit: After some quick research, apparently glow maps in fact do not work for skin textures due to the way Oblivion handles the emissive light of them. Instead, they cause transparency.

I usually spend about 30 more minutes using showracemenu to get my character juuuust right in the daylight (hard to see your character in the poor sewer lighting). Then, I swim across to Vilverin and kill the bandits outside. My inventory likely being bursting at this point, I head to the Market District to sell a bunch of useless junk. From there, there are many choices, most of which are very difficult with OOO. When I started my new character, I found that I simply didn't know where to start, so I looked at my other character's completed quest log. According to that, my first priority is to do a few quests in the Imperial City - uncover Thoronir's scheme and help out the old fisherman. Then, I join some guilds. In my quest log were about 5 Dark Brotherhood quests back to back, and then 5 or so more Mages' Guild quests. This is intermixed by a few Arena battles. By this point, I usually have a bit more power and some better gear, so I go loot some random dungeons. Then I get caught up somewhere in the Main Quest...
But yeah, basically I sell a bunch of crap, do guild quests for levels/loot, then spend lots of time looting dungeons and dealing with my increasingly large collection of loot that I will never get around to selling, which is the main reason I usually stop playing high level characters - can't walk 10 feet without my inventory filling up.
-
You know he dies right
Apparently you do not understand the power of fan fic. The same thing has happened to plenty of other (usually male) characters - they die off and the fangirls love him too much to accept it. Although, as a male, I don't understand what's up with Lucien/Mister Burke being the fan favorite.

I've long been satisfied with sticking to a more...minimalist approach to modding my Oblivion. I prefer not to use mod weapons/armor, large mods that add big quests, major overhauls (aside from OOO), etc. I don't like to unbalance the game, see. Recently, however, after finally completing Shivering Isles for the first time, I've noticed something: I'm getting tired of the game. My current character is stealthy and has all the best gear possible, fully enchanted with Grand Soul Gems, and my older character that I don't play anymore is a super-overpowered battlemage who runs like she's stuck in jello due to the weight of her armor. I can kill anything (except Amazon bosses) and am stealthy enough to run into people without being detected. I decided to use a few pieces of mod armor to add some variety, but all that did was make me more overpowered. I've also done more than a little bit of personal tweaking to the mods I use, to the point where I'm finally learning how to use Blender.
So, throughout my time playing and modding Oblivion, I've noticed that many, many screenshots feature numerous mods working in tandem on characters - unique races, hair, body styles, animations, gear...I've decided I finally want a piece of that, so to speak. So far, the only race and hair mods I've used are Cute Elves, Mystic Elves (the remake version that looks way nicer), Moonshadow Elves (gah, so many elves!) + their hair styles, and Ren's beauty pack. I also have a fair number of eyecandy mods, like Natural Faces, OBGE, HGEC...
Basically, what I'm asking is this: Can someone point me to some good aesthetic mods like races and hair styles? Also, how would one go about combining multiple "beauty" packs so that they're all available? I want to start fresh with a brand new character and a brand new look.

I like both! Battlefield and squad based gameplay, and MW with the story and being generally easier to play. I plan on getting both, tho I will say MW will not be played much since it gets released 3 days before Skyrim!
I'm pretty sure the majority of people who play MW don't play the Elder Scrolls games...I don't think they're too worried about sales. In fact, I'm more worried about Skyrim's sales.

I, too, have never finished a Zelda game. *holds up a flame shield to stop the angry pitchforks*
I've never completed the main quest in Oblivion either, and I've never even come close to really exploring Morrowind.
I never completed any but the first Terran campaign in Starcraft (I want to get back into it, but Brood War refuses to install), I never beat Diablo II (or even reached the third Act - that boss at the end of Act II is impossible as a melee assassin who is [ironically, considering the name of the class] great at killing large groups but doesn't have enough HP to stand up to a boss). I never finished Warcraft III either (was too busy playing custom games [but not DOTA *angry face at that little "spin-off"*], haha).
The only Resident Evil game I've ever finished is RE4 (Gamecube version), and I own RE1: Director's Cut, RE2, RE0, and REmake. Of course, I'm not the one who bought the RE games either - my mom is a horror game/movie fan. >.>
I've also never even really played any of the Silent Hill games, but I own some of them (although once again I'm not the only gamer in my house).
I never finished the Marine campaign of Aliens VS Predator 2, and I never finished the Marine or Predator campaign of the first PC game. I never finished ANY of the campaigns in the Primal Hunt expansion. I did have a lot of fun playing all three online though.
I never finished the military campaign of Stronghold, for some reason, even though I really liked the game.
I never finished any of the Mechwarrior games because I lack the uber piloting skills needed...when is a new one coming out, exactly?
And my most egregious one...I never finished Dragon Age: Awakening. I just couldn't get into it.
Edit: Got some more...
I haven't finished Portal 2 yet - the new puzzle designs outside of the testing chambers are more annoying than anything.
I didn't finish Crysis because the little alien place was unplayable due to low frame rates (this was long before I upgraded to a new computer, however - now it refuses to install).
I never completed either KotOR game, but I own the first for both Xbox and PC [i got the PC one as part of a holiday pack]. One of my non-RPG-inclined friends even managed to beat it, but not me :( .
I never finished any of the Half-Life games or built anything particularly awesome in GMod.
I didn't finish the first Oddworld game, but I did complete Exodus - twice.
I've never finished a Command and Conquer/Westwood game's campaign, including the Dune games.
I haven't even opened the plastic wrapping on the new Splinter Cell game yet - got it as a gift over a year ago, and I've heard terrible things about it.
Here's another one that will likely spark flames: I never finished any of the Baldur's Gate games.
Good grief this list is too long.
Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth DrannorLooks like I'm not the only one who fell for at least one cheap knock-off game.
Edit: Just finished Oblivion's main quest. Woot. Now to start a new character...

My top disappointing sequel is most certainly Fable 3. It's like Fable 2...but they removed everything that made it fun, like multiple, varied weapon and item types, an open world (Fable 3 pulls you along by the nose), and lots of things to find and discover (most rewards in Fable 3 are just gold). The monarch gimmick was terrible and rushed, despite it being an over-hyped selling point. Maybe it's my fault for listening to LIONHEAD STUDIOS's hype once more, I don't know...
My second most disappointing was Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. The main gimmick of the game was just that - a gimmick. Summoning fellow assassins and sending them on missions didn't even feel useful or fun, but the game forces you to do so. Add to this the fact that most missions in the game are annoying sneaking missions of the "don't get spotted or it's game over" variety as well as the fact that the vast majority of the game takes place in one city, plus the fact that the gameplay is EXACTLY the same as ACII but with more annoyances...yeah. The whole "rally the people" thing was just bland, as the core of the game is about running across rooftops and assassinations (and not the kind where detection=you dead). I didn't even feel like finishing it - and the ending with its diabolus ex machina certainly wasn't worth the trouble.
Then there's Dragon Age 2, which is not at all like DA:O. Sure, DA2 was certainly fun...but it didn't feel like it was even part of the same series. The parts of the game that were obviously rushed certainly don't help, like the reused environments or the lack of item types (or even item names), not to mention the ridiculously railroaded ending with its terrible black-and-black morality that sucks out any potential satisfaction from completing the game. Compare this to the Mass Effect games where, by the time the credits start rolling, you're triumphant and cheering. Bioware simply tried far, FAR too hard to make DA2 a "dark fantasy," which is just ridiculous on top of the over-the-top Devil May Cry-esque combat (which isn't helped by the resident JRPG character, Fenris). I don't think they realize that angst, unlikable hypocrite characters, and bad endings don't automatically = true art, despite what Oscar bait movies and Newberry novels would have you to believe.
Metroid Prime 2 sort of counts here. Having played through MP1 recently once more, I decided to finally get its sequel (I rented MP2 briefly once, and I played most of MP3 until my Wii broke). Unfortunately, MP2 is MP1...but not as good. Every weapon except your peashooter uses ammo now (and you have to repeatedly spend said ammo to open DOORS). The Dark World reduces the game into a survival horror-esque crawl as you wait for your energy to regenerate after most fights, since said fights will often consist of enemies who love pushing you out of the safe areas into the poisonous air. The music is completely subpar compared to how great it was in MP1. The enemies all have far too much health unless you're feeling brave enough to risk using your ammo on regular enemies, plus most of said enemies have annoying gimmicks (like turning invisible/invulnerable); the bosses, on the other hand, feel like they're from Ninja Gaiden they're so annoying (two that particularly stand out are Amorbis and the Boost Guardian - the latter features your health constantly draining during the fight, as well as requiring you to use MORPH BALL BOMBS [even weaker peashooters] as your PRIMARY weapon...and let's not get started on how not getting hit by the boss is luck based). There's also the fact that most of the powerups that you get in MP2 just don't seem as, well...useful. In MP1, I remember going "SWEET!" when I got the Wave Beam for the first time. In MP2, when I got upgrades like the Dark and Light Beams and the Seeker Missiles, I just went "When am I ever going to use these? I don't have enough ammo to use the Dark/Light weapons for anything but door-opening, and the Seeker Missiles are just a waste of ammo period since if I'm ever fighting lots of enemies at the same time I'm better off with my fast-shooting peashooter." Also, one minor caveat on top of all this - the Dark Suit is the ugliest suit in the entire Metroid series.
Rant-a-licious.
Oddworld Munch's Oddysee. Abe's Oddysee and Exodus were excellent games, back when I first saw Munch's Oddysee I was very excited. After I bought it, I was very disappointed. The gameplay was tedious, and the story wasn't interesting to me.Ooh, I almost forgot about this one. 2D platformers need to come back. :( The first two Oddworld games were fun, quirky, and had amazing CG backgrounds for the graphics, but the third...just no.
-
To the topic title: Neither is better. COD MW3 is just a rehash of the same tired game, and BF3 is a failed attempt to "trump" it to the point where it's the same game attempting to be better. For an example in another genre, look at World of Warcraft (the COD) and the Conan MMO (the BF3).
You're better off saving your money for a better game, preferably one that doesn't release as many sequels as Madden football.
-
Uhhh...does Starcraft count as a retro game (released in 1998)? If so, that's my favorite. :)
Also, the Castlevania series, especially SotN, although I don't remember the release date for that one.
-
The two blacksmiths from SI. The orc's "Why did you go to that other blacksmith? Is it because she's the prettier blacksmith?" cracks me up every time. Aaaannnd Cutter loves to give and take pain, apparently, given her comments like "I test the weapons...myself" and the fact that her shop has blood all over the floor.
-
Or you can kill her like I did: the overpowered Wizard's Fury spell. Seriously, 6 blasts took her down at level 9.
-
During a big brawl between the Seducers and Saints, I hit one of the Saints who then flew up into the air upon dying. One of the Seducer archers took it upon herself to shoot the Saint while she was in midair...she ended up pinned to the wall by about 6 arrows. I guess they really DO hold a grudge.
Also, I once had a conversation initiated by a quest script, and I was suddenly staring into the side of someone's face. All I could see was brown.
Edit: Recently, I looted a Gnarl and an item labeled [Missing Item] was in its inventory. The first and only time I've seen it outside of CM Partners.
-
So, here I am, messing around with poses, standing on an awesome vista - screenshot fodder, it is. Oh, they work great on my own character, does every single one properly. However, as soon as I try to use one on an NPC, the problems begin. Most of the time, the NPC will simply stand there. Sometimes I won't be able to cast another pose power on the NPC until I reload. Sometimes MY character performs the animation instead! Mind you, this last one happened when I was using the Actors in Charge power, which only includes vanilla animations, so it's not just limited to non-vanilla poses. Also, I've tried using the pose powers on both CM partners and vanilla, non-party member NPCs.
I thought about it for a while, and then I realized that the only "mod" I had "installed" was an updated Bashed Patch. I'm pretty sure they worked before even with the Patch on, but something must've clicked wrongly in the rebuilt one. I deactivated the Patch, and the animations suddenly work again! Hooray! Then they stop working as soon as I reactivate it. I've narrowed it down to the Bashed Patch specifically - it was the only ESP I deactivated between working and not working poses. I REALLY don't want to have to play with the Bashed Patch off...it tweaks numerous settings and lets me use All Natural. Does anyone have any ideas here?

Imperial Watch: "You have my ear, citizen."
Me: "Do you want it back?"
Ha, I always have this picture in my head of a cartoon comic where a guard walks up to my character and says in this in a deadpan voice. And his ear actually is missing. Every time I hear a guard say it I picture it.
Person: I heard you know how to move in light armor!
Me: ...Are you trying to flirt with me?
Person: [to a female character] Look at the muscles on you!
Me: ...Still getting the "flirt" vibe here.
Person: You smell of dead things. Been conjuring up some undead?
Me: One, I do not "smell of dead things." Two, even if I did, shouldn't you be alarmed that I'm the Archmage and practice necromancy?
Battlemage: Ah, you must be the Arcane University's newest addition. This humble battlemage bids you welcome!
Me: Wait, wait, so I'm the newest mage in the guild...and I'm the Archmage? If it was that easy to reach Archmage, then you mages must the be laziest on Tamriel.
Blind Monk: Who's there?! *waits a moment* Better cut down on the ale. Starting to see things, I am.
Me: I thought you were blind?!?!
Enemy: You move like a pregnant cow!
Me: How appropriate - you move like a dairy farmer. Wait, lemme try that again...
Dark Elf: [with disgust] Oh, it's you.
Me: Look here, lady, I'm the Grand Champion, the Hero of Kvatch, the Archmage of Cyrodiil, a thief, a murderer, a secret agent, and, in my scant free time, an adventurer who likes to collect dangerous and priceless artifacts. Do you really want to mess with me?
-
I'm surprised at the Skingrad love - most people seem to post their distaste for the place. It's definitely the only city that actually feels like a real Middle Ages European city - unplanned, winding, cramped streets, tall buildings on either side, and lots of people. Not to mention the huge castle in the distance.
-
1017. Games with good modding support don't die until [unless] the sequel comes out.
1018. The only piece of armor you can loot from the Dremora guardian of the Bruma gate are his boots, for some reason. You can't loot any other Dremora armor, period.
1019. The reason levitation is only known by a select few [or one] in Cyrodiil is because the Levitation Act was passed. [i overheard it from some random city-goers.]
1020. Lucien Lachance is actually Sheogorath - he adopted the fake accent to hide his identity, but he occasionally drops it to get his point across. Yes, Lucien came first. :)
1021. Tamriel is one big anachronism: the buildings are gothic, the people are modern, the government is Roman, the Blades are East Asian, the religion isClassical and Medieval, the ships are European Renaissance/more recent than Medieval, the weapons and armor are from different eras, and the Daedra are RAAWRWRWHGHWGHGH (that's "Future" in Dremora).
1022. All buildings in Tamriel are fire-proof. This is also evidenced by the Bruma guild never burning down despite the fire never being put out...
1023. Sigil Stones are semi-sentient. They morph themselves into the form that you will find the least use for when you grab them.
1024. Apparently a "demonic invasion" in Tamriel actually means "a few big scary portals to the otherworld open up and demons wander randomly around them, not doing any invading at all despite the fact that the entrance to the mortal realm is wide open and there are mortals right outside."
1025. Despite the fact that Cyrodiil is the heart of the Empire, its cities are utterly tiny and devoid of people. This is especially egregious [no, the TVTropes drinking game doesn't cease just because you're outside of the website, DRINK UP] for the Imperial City; the city feels very dead despite it apparently being the most important city in the entire Empire. Yes, cities in the Middle Ages (but this isn't the Middle Ages, see #1021) were small by modern standards, but they weren't THAT small.
1026. 99% of residents in Cyrodiil look like they fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Funnily enough, in my opinion, the only person who averts this even slightly is that creepy blacksmith in Crucible, Cutter. I guess it's to make up for none of them having a bad physique.
1027. In most fantasy series, elves are elves and dwarves are dwarves. In Soviet Tamriel, dwarves are elves.
1028. Doors contain miniature black holes that only activate when they close on somebody. Just try closing a door on someone who's dead/knocked out.
1029. Despite the fact that Tamriel has not one, but two very close moons, there are little to no waves on water surfaces.
1030. Bravil is apparently an "important center of trade" [according to Enhanced Economies] despite it being poorer than half of the towns in Vvardenfell.
1031. Purely meta example: It's apparently possible for the filesize of a game to increase tenfold via too many mods. Download addiction FTW.
1032. Running down stairs and hills without flying into the air is not possible in Tamriel. Then again, those stairs in New Sheoth look too small to even walk on...
1033. Ayleid elves apparently loved to dot the land with mausoleums full of treasure, traps, and dead stuff. Maybe they wouldn't have died off if they'd have gotten a new hobby.
1034. Mehrunes Dagon is never happy to see you.
1035. Maybe I'm missing something here, but even the apparently female Daedric Princes are called "princes"...?
1036. Browsing and posting on the Nexus Forums is addictive. Just look at my post time. *hears birds outside* Oh boy...Oh wait, they never shut up despite the time of day. Nevermind.
1037. Elves will always be a race available in a fantasy game. The Elder Scrolls takes this one step further...
1038. Stealing a pewter fork, an apple, or a clay bowl is a capital offense in Cyrodiil.
1039. If a guard takes friendly fire, they will start a chain reaction of rage and kill one another until there's one left standing.
1040. STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM is fun to say, especially if you actually use it in the correct situation.
1041. Redguards aren't black, they're just really really dark-skinned Imperials. Also, if they get TOO dark-skinned, they turn green.
1042. If the player character is blessed with the Most Common Superpower [aka big bosoms], then everyone else in Tamriel must also be blessed with it. Too bad they couldn't inherit a fix for #1026.
1043. A shopkeeper who makes 5 gold in a year [as stated by a certain orc shopkeeper in Cheydinal] has over 1000 gold to use in their store and sells basic and exotic goods alike worth well over 5 gold.
1044. Apparently a timeless, priceless Daedric artifact like the Ebony Blade or Azura's Star actually does have a price despite them only being wielded by one person at a time in the entire world.
1045. Oblivion would be more awesome with a sprinkling of Garrus.
1046. Being hit by a giant claymore or a hammer bigger than your face is just a flesh wound.
1047. The player.createfullactorcopy command causes unfortunate implications when used near a bed.
1048. The Lich King, Sauron, and Pyramid Head occasionally visit Tamriel.
1049. The butterfly effect [haha] at the start of the Shivering Isles does not look like it belongs to Gamebryo.

Uh, I've never gotten a dream sequence that was a video in Oblivion...?
Anyway, the most disturbing one I've encountered would have the be the vampire dream about eating a meal and having slugs burst out of your stomach. Uhg...The rest are relatively tame compared to that.

At level 20, I have 1226 creature kills and 461 people kills. I use OOO and its default (non-vanilla) level rates. I also use Realistic Leveling which adds the fact that minor skills give a small boost towards leveling up now.
It might help to note that my character has what's likely an "abnormally" high number of people kills due to being a rogue in the Thieves' Guild and the Dark Brotherhood (finished the latter in fact). Also, I've finished the Mages' Guild quest series in which most of the enemies you kill are people. I've also finished the Arena, which is nothing but fighting other people.

One thing that might help improve your framerate while still making the scenery during actual gameplay still nice:
Increase iMinGrassSize in the Oblivion.ini to something like 100 or 120, this will reduce the amount of grass while still preserving it.
Also, Oblivion Graphics Extender has a minimal impact on framerate but looks nice with the right settings (godrays are your friend).
All Natural and Enhanced Vegetation aren't particularly hard on the computer either from what I can tell.
QTP3 will certainly hurt your framerate, however.
Unique Landscapes adds SO MUCH eyecandy, too. However, some of the areas kill framerates (notably, the road area just southwest of Bravil), and the mod pack in general slows down load times because it contains so much. But really, UL adds TONS of screenshot-friendly spots, like a few clearings outside of the Imperial City with a statue, some flowers, and a few benches, or the cliffs and forts west of Chorrol that border Hammerfall.
On the subject of the poll, I voted jungle. I wish they had kept Cyrodiil a rainforest. Temperate forests are pretty but get tiresome, and I can't really stand snowy areas. One reason I like the Shivering Isles so much is because it brings back the Morrowind feel to its environment - swampy, full of alien but nice-looking features. I would LOVE to see a full-on rainforest in Oblivion.

Hah, true, they really don't acknowledge your rank. In fact, the battlemages in the Arcane University are downright hostile to me. "Make it quick." Makes me want to pull out a conjured claymore and start slicing. Then again, if you consider the Archmage from Morrowind...maybe they just don't have faith in you. The Archmage of Vvardenfell is "quirky" to put it lightly. The quest he hands you is "find out what happened to the dwarves." It's a mystery that's plagued scholars for countless years, and he wants you to solve it right there and now. And he doesn't give you a clue where to start. Funnily enough, the quest is actually doable if you're really savvy (or use a strategy guide)...
But still, it's like nobody even recognizes that Traven is dead. You never even get to see the Council, whoever they are. Overall, it feels like that Arcane University is seriously lacking in both size and player interaction.
