Nexus Mod Manager focus group needs more help
crashpilot replied to TheTokenGeek's topic in Site Updates
In response to post #39901825. This is exactly what I expected. I have a couple of MODs from the site that should not be named and from Steam as well, I also have some MODs that I modified myself a bit. A snap shoot of my configuration would be useless since some critical MODs are not available on the Nexus. Nevertheless, a reliable MOD Manager that can handle MODs downloaded from other Game sites would be most appreciated and I do not think that a MOD manager needs automatic MOD ordering functionality. I guess that would be extremely hard to maintain for all the games the MOD Manager supports. I hate the idea of switching to another MOD manager because NMM becomes a Nexus MODs only tool. -
Nexus is solving Bethesda's problems, again! You guys should geta share of their profits!!!!

Can't download while logged in. All downloads redirect to games list.
crashpilot replied to Shinzou's topic in Site Support
+1 I do not know what happened to the Nexus servers recently but since a couple of days loading takes pretty long and since today downloading MODs is (almost) impossible. If I am very quick in selecting a download server it may work (?) but usually I am redirected to the main Nexus screen. I appreciate that the file upload functionality has been improved but what good does it do if I can't download anymore. -
Changes to our file uploader and large file uploading fix
crashpilot replied to TheTokenGeek's topic in Site Updates
Great that you fixed the up-loader, unfortunately now I cannot download any files. If I am very quick and I manage to catch one of the download servers it may work but most of the time I am redirected to "http://www.nexusmods.com/games/?" and the game starts all over. Edit: I tried with IE and Firefox, same issue with both browsers. -
If you want to remove your endorsements, you may also consider asking Bethesda to get your money back, since you do not play the game anymore. If I read such a comment I start thinking that payed MODs are not such a bad idea after all, at least people cannot come and ask for money returns when they stop playing the game.

@Dark0ne and team. Just dropping in to say thank you for what you did to the forum severs. I don't know if it is for real or just my subjective impression. I think the forum works better since the change, more responsive and faster overall.

Valve/Bethesda announce paid modding for Skyrim, more games to follow

In response to post #24571819. #24571979, #24572124, #24572239, #24572369, #24572524 are all replies on the same post. And what about after 17 days. Anyway, it does not matter. I have about 200 Mods installed, even if the price per MOD is ONLY about 1 $, it would mean I would pay about 250 bucks for an acceptable Bethsoft game. No thank you, For that kind of money I can entertain myself better. -
This is on the Home page design. Guys, I am sorry to say, but I do not like what you did to the Notifications tab. The old way showing the changes to my tracked files that I had not noticed or if no new changes a list of the most resent changes plus the changes my friends made to their MOD and a list of the most recent New was far more informative. The new one is useless at least for me.

Thanks! I've never used TES5EDIT before, but it seems I run TES5Edit, and select every plugin (including Skyrim.esm??) then how do I "run" it? Thanks again, Start Tes5Edit, no need to select anything for your test (all the active esp files are already selected in the window that pops up in front of the main window), after that you just click the OK button and Tes5Edit will run. Please be patient Tes5edit is building reference info for all your active MODs, if your MODs are fine the message "finished" will be visible on the bottom of your message window (the large one on the right). In your case I guess the process will stop at some point indicating an error about a missing master file in that very same window, that message will also tell you what master file is missing. Good luck. Ninjad by Camaro

The game crashing on load is usually a sign for a missing master. Run Tes5Edit with all MODs enabled and it will stop with a error message telling you what master file is missing.

In response to post #18006929. Well, I must be one of those with lower download speed. In the last couple of days downloading large files, e.g. the UOPs for Oblivion remind me of the not so good old days when I used a Modem, maxim out at 150 kb/s. I am on a fiber network and before those “improvements” I had download speeds in the MB range.

Everyone knows Linux and Mac users always add only constructive criticism. What I do not believe is that Linux users will be stupid enough to rely on Steam Workshop, you may not have noticed but there is a "download manually" button on every download on the nexus. Furthermore, according to your statement there is a much better and more experienced pool of developers (a statement that may be hard to prove), I am pretty sure some of those clever guys will come up with the ultimate download manager.

Nexus Mod Manager enters open beta - download now!
crashpilot replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
Fully agree!!! -
Adding version numbers at the end of the file name breaks the update function in Wrye bash and the update and data input function with OBMM Extended. If the version number is not the last in the filename all is well. Crash

I think it is the right time of the year to say thank you to Dark0ne and all the moderators for the best game forum I came across until now. I want to express my appreciation of your hard, and I think most of the time voluntary work. Nexus is not only a great repository but at the same time almost free off trolls and jerks due to the strict enforcement of the forum rules, a welcome difference to some other places. Thank you and a merry Christmas to all of you.

I could not agree more! Negative endorsement is meaningless. If I don’t like a MOD I don’t install it, if I encounter bugs I inform the author and if someone claims a MOD does not work I recommend reading the readme. I bet most of the posts about a MOD not working or causing problems are from people that never bother to read what the creator has to say. Crash

Issue: I did order the German Oblivion Gold Edition in addition to the English version that I have currently installed, because there are too many great German MODs that simply do not play well in the English game. The question is now whether I can install both versions on the same PC? The INI file issue is easy to solve by just using a different user account, but what about the game itself? Thank you; this is exactly what I proposed some time ago. If a MOD has bugs send a comment to the author, no need to downgrade the MOD since in 9 out of 10 the author will resolve the issue, if not positive ratings can be removed. If one does not like a MOD, no need to downgrade, just move on, the MOD is not for you. If one likes a MOD and it works as described (after testing), endorse.

Well, I do live in one of those double bit character countries for about 10 years now and from what I see on the sites here is that they do not really care whether there is a binary or another rating system in place. Most of them MOD for fun not for fame, which is refreshing having same of the posts here in mind. Edit: Typo

Thank you and everyone running this site for providing the Oblivion community with a platform that has something A lot of something) for everyone, Modders and users alike and taking your figures into account there may be even more in the future. I suppose the fast majority does accept the new and in my opinion far better system, the few that don't - well so be it! You can't please everyone.
-
I agree that compromise works most of the time but for some people compromise means having it their way.

I could not agree more!!! My definition of an expert in any field is a person who knows enough about what's really going on to be scared. - P.J. Plauger

There is still the comment section; and I suppose that anyone wanting to help by posting "constructive" critics will choose that pass. I would also guess that you won't get an awful lot of useful feedback from someone that needs a check-box to voice her or his opinion anyway.

the problem with this is not everyone that downloads will endorse or not endorse the mod. look at my mod for example. i have 668 downloads, but only 9 endorsements, and that was done while in the 1-10 rating system. if anything, that says that 659 people just didnt bother with rating it at all. does that mean the mod is terrible? not necessarily. some people are just lazy and won't bother rating/endorsing. there are several excellent mods out there with very little endorsements at all, but with your idea of a system, they'd be missed. also, what if there is a feature on a mod that you try and you don't like it and it's something the author can fix? if you do nothing like you suggest, he/she won't know to fix it. You are right that a low number of endorsements does not mean that the MOD is not good. However, the non-endorsement button is not the solution to this problem either and the removal of that button is the message I wanted to ENDORSE with my comment. Why do most people push that thumps down button? I think the vast majority does it because the green of the boots is not the green they like and the handle of the axe has not the shape they want, this is about taste and has nothing to do with quality. In the situation that they push that button for technical reasons, e.g. missing meshes, they would better send a comment to the author of the MOD and ask for a fix, again there is no compelling reason for this "I won't endorse this file" button.
