I am beating my head against the wall here. I've taken an old LE mod and updated it to 2025 with the latest version of CK and Platform Extended. I've got a handful of male characters that currently don't have any Facegendata (so discolored faces) because when I generate them in CK (CTRL F4), they cause crashes on certain mod lists. I haven't been able to tie any threads together as to what they have in common. The only common thread is Community Shaders but I've also tested with CS being the only thing enabled on a different install and the facegen's were fine and no crash. This is super frustrating as it's the only thing keeping my mod from being ready for console release. Crashlog is found here for one build: https://pastebin.com/5YVv5CLU

You wonderful person! This fixed it for me completely. Windows and it's damn permissions/folder structure bugs.

PC Shutting down in Skyrim SE

Yeah I had another day of using Skyrim heavily for several hours without issue. I'm thinking the whole thing was a fluke or a surge of some sort (maybe my surge protector sucks?) Thanks for all the help guys. I never like coming away without a definite solution for anyone that has the same issue in the future but maybe this will help someone. One last note, I've decided to drop 2 HDDs just in case - just need to move my OS to do it, but that might help my PSU. -

So update on today. I've been playing Skyrim without downgrading anything (with a break here and there) for about 6 hours. There has been no crash/shutdown. Maybe the system needed to break itself in? As for heat transfer from GPU to MB. The temps for the GPU (after 6 hours) have never exceeded 75C. MB temps have never gone above 60C (on one meter - next meter location has a high temp of 42C). I'm really leaning toward it being a voltage problem either from my (up until now) reliable PSU OR a power draw from my outlet that can't be handled. I'm welcome to any other theories or testing maneuvers. -

I let Furmark run for 6 minutes - at minute 3.5 it flat-lined at 75C and never went over it for the rest of the test. -

You might have missed it but I said the PSU is a ax860i - so 860w & GPU isn't going above 75C. -

Did as asked. No errors. -
I started my build buying used bits on Facebook and Craigslist. You can get into Skyrim and then slowly upgrade as you get into mods (if you so choose). Bare minimum you can play Skyrim for $300 in used (decent) parts, if you know how to build and keep your eye on prices. Make sure you get a decent PSU and not a cheapy. 600W or more (EVGA has one that floats around $40 new). Last gen bits are super cheap and will allow you to keep building until you're ready to make the big leap to modern components.

This problem started after I put together a new build with the following specs (temps are currently in idle): What is happening is during an extended period of playing a heavily modded version of Skyrim SE with lots of 4k/2k textures and HIGH settings in Bethini, the system completely crashes - screens go black, a grinding sound comes through speakers (like a short clip looping really quick), fans turn off and MB goes dark (RGB leds on RAM stay lit) - power/reset buttons do nothing - PSU power must be unplugged to shut all the way down. Then when power is plugged back in and attempt to startup, the MB won't POST. I then walk away from it for about 30 minutes and then boot happens normally to Win. No errors, nothing. Now that sounds like a heat issue - going into Protect Mode, right? But I'm watching my temps in game with both HW monitor and Ryzen Master (supposedly more accurate for the CPU) and I'm not seeing anything to worry about. GPU goes up to about 76 C on spikes but averages around 70 C. CPU spikes at 60 C and averages 54 C. I also have a front-mounted CPU temp monitor (the sensor is tucked into the heat sink) and checking it upon the crash shows CPU temps at 45 to 50 C. My cooling is air based with 1 200mm top exhaust, 1 120mm rear exhaust, 3 120mm intakes. The GPU has 2 fans, the CPU has the stock Wraithcooler and the PSU has a 120mm fan inside. I've also seen that this problem happens with underpowered/weak PSU's - but this is a brand new 860 W Corsair PSU. It should be fine right? Lastly, this issues is only happening since I replaced the CPU, MB and RAM. The PSU was on the previous build as well and had no issues. The only gaming changes I've made is moving from Medium to High settings and adding Skyland Textures (balanced 1k/2k mix). I have no idea where to start to diagnose this beyond what I've done. It just seems to me that I might not have my voltage setup right or something in BIOS. It could also (maybe) be my wall power. I'm in an older home (1975) on a circuit that's gotten overloaded before and burned out a plug along it (due to my old PC, a full ent. system with XBOX One on constant AND a large space heater). Could my system be asking for more power than my wall outlet can give?

My download history won't load still and Vortex fails to login. Everything else is working that I can see though.

Ok, so some possible updates if anyone cares to help or I can help - the issue is still occuring. I checked RAM usage (at about 5 GB of 32GB) and CPU % (about 20%) when saving and crashing. I THINK I eliminated some of the percentage of crashing by doing a couple things 1. Eliminate as many leveled list mods as possible - I disabled Convenient Horses (*tear*), High Level Enemies SIC, Bellyaches & Diversive Dragons Leveled Lists (NOT Diversive Dragons standalone - although I read if you plan on running a heavy modded setup, don't add DD and DON'T disable it mid-playthrough. You might want to do this for any armor/clothing mods that have leveled lists too. 2. Then I went into Win Task Manager and Startup Processes tab and killed anything I don't need to run. 3. Then reboot 4. Close Chrome & Vortex (don't know if NMM or MO will help to be closed) Basically I tried to rid myself of any "growing" scripts (the leveled lists) and then eliminated any resource drains as must as possible. I then retested in an exterior location that wouldn't save before. Both manual and quicksave worked fine. So I felt pretty good right? Well not quite - I then went into a modded area (specifically the expedition cave added by Legacy of the Dragonborn) and tried to manual save - borked. CTD as usual. SOOOO...I'm thinking I'm suffering 2 fold - too much garbage I don't need and some bug in a mod for new cells. I'm going to dump a ton of money on hardware on Black Friday. Does anyone think a new CPU would help? I'm running an OC FX-6300 (which I know is old, but still 6 cores and OC to 4.1). Thoughts?

I ran Performance Monitor on a few of the crashes - memory never got close. I was at 6GB of VRAM at max, with 8GB on my card. RAM was at peak 8GB when I've got 32GB. It should also be noted that my saves (when it works) are coming in consistently at about 20MB. However, it takes a while for it to save (maybe 20 seconds) and the crash is ALWAYS at the end of the process (say second 19 out of 20). Could it be the HDD?

Mod List: I haven't changed this at all in the last 3 months - but just in the last 3 days started having ALOT of trouble with saving - in all forms. Manual still is the most consistantly working but it's all over the place with CTDs. It seems to have started about 3/4 through Dragonborn. I've tried cleaning my save with Resaver, plus the player.kill trick. Still not helping. Loading is fine, playing is fine - just saving. I know this is likely due to a script-heavy mod, but I don't know what that would be. I'm losing my mind here!

1. No, not program files - I installed to an SSD that is separate from my OS. 2. As I said, I did a massive dump of all my mods at once. So USSEP, SKSE64, et. al. were all put in at the same time. Vortex has a little learning curve on how to setup overrides and install order so you'll need to see how to do that. 3. Oh crum, I forgot to mention that I did that. Yes I used SSEEdit to clean all DLC and any dirty mod edits 4. Yes - Loot is set to automatically run. It's still good to have a copy of LOOT just incase you need deeper info on some items. 5. Make sure your rig is solid. I found out before hand that my CPU was bottlenecking my GPU. There's a ton of focus only on GPU for Skyrim but other components can drag that down. Also check out Skyrim Performance Monitor to check if any CTDs might be caused by hardware limitations. Good luck!

I tried to import my NMM Oldrim about a week before hand but the problem was SSD space to do it quickly (transferring and importing to HDD and then zipping and moving to SSD was a major pain and not enough room on SSD to do both). So about halfway through the import I realized that each mod would have to be "reinstalled" (technically first install on Vortex) and my Oldrim's install was so fragile that I ran in fear. I thought that I might install just 1 mod with slightly different options that it would crash whatever happened. I should have just gone for it, because honestly it seems like Vortex is helping with stability. I stopped using LOOT about a month ago because I found manual sorts work better (if you use the STEP system for sorting by category and understand how load order works & reading install instructions), but really I haven't had one problem with the load order via Vortex/Loot. I DO wish there was an easier way to manually sort and set rules for that sort order but the automatic is a huge boost to time-saving and frustration. But OTHER than that - I'm not kidding - download, install & add options, enable X 270 - hit the SKSE64 button and I was on my way. Love it and FULLY immersed. I spent last night just hanging out at the Bannered Mare - thank you 3DNPC & Immersive Citizens.

The eagle-eyed forum user will notice that my screenshots have some bad LOD meshes in my trees. But that's because I discovered that HQ Tree Bark is incompatible with SFO. Again, I didn't read any install instructions, just mass downloaded and installed. The worst that happened was some bad meshes??? I could never go back to Oldrim - not even if Beyond Skyrim or SkyWind or SkyBlivion were all only compatible with Oldrim. Not a chance.

I am fairly new to Skyrim. I started about 4 months ago when I ran out of mods in Fallout 4 to try. At the time, I had a potato so I went with LE (it was also $10 cheaper at the time). Then I spent the next 3 months SLLLOOOWWWWLY upgrading LE and my rig - all on one character. There were many days of beating my head against the wall because one mod had borked my entire save and I lost 10 hours worth of gameplay due to having to uninstall the mod and revert to a clean (safe) save that would load. Eventually I would get "stable" and proceed until I'd learn about some other mod that could maybe be better than what I had and the process would repeat. Finally I got to about 350 hours (of recorded game-time - not actually playing due to borked saves) on the one character. All that was left was Rigmor. I enter Fort Black. CTD. Reload. CTD. Reload - get through Fort Black and exit out the back. Walk through the mountain and see a massive Havok bug floating in sky (I think Rigmor's face had stretched to cover the whole sky). CTD. ENOUGH! I'm about to give up on the whole thing and try modding GTA 5, when I look at the technical requirements for a heavy modded, photorealistic version. I'm not there yet and I'd have to spend about $500 on my PC to get there. After spending 7 months buying a piece here, changing this component there I'm already in $1000+ on playing a $15 game and my wife would like to murder me. SOOOO.... I read that SSE is more stable. Why didn't I get sold on that to begin with? Let's try it. I decide, new character, new build, why not try Vortex? Hell...why not REALLY test this thing out and see if I can stomach it. So I track every mod I have in LE that is available for SSE. Then I sprinkle in some new ones (Lucien, The Shire, retextures of this and that, Intrigued ENB). Then I download and install each and everyone of them - without loading SSE. This was 3 days ago - I'm now playing the most stable, beautiful, immersive game I have ever played since I started gaming 35 years ago (it still doesn't look as good as Combat! on C64, jk). In those 3 days I've had only 1 CTD - Because I tried loading SimplyKnock without seeing that it wasn't updated to work with SKSE 2.0.10. Disable SimplyKnock and boooooomshakalaka. 270 mods, 205 plugins (after Wryebash and merge of followers), no crashing. Not ONCE. No stutters, no FPS drops, no infinite load screens. Just a game from 2011 with a bunch of code added by kind-hearted people working for free in basements and it runs like it's like a AAA 2018 game. Then end result - I can't say that everyone should switch to SSE/Vortex. I'm sure there's still the stubborn group that would rather fight their install for the rest of time. Had I known the true power of the...well you know. My only regret - not taking before screenshots. The attached shots are without any special screenshot mods or effects. Just straight up gameplay at 2560x1080. Now can we get a working version of RDO? TL;DR - Loaded 270 mods without testing into SSE via Vortex - all with highest resolution textures and ultra settings and the thing looks great and is stable.

The strangest thing and I have searched and searched for an answer. Basically I have one NPC follower from Helgen Reborn mod, Cienna. About a week ago her eyebrows started disappearing when you get close to her face. I am using the same ENB that I have been for ages with no changes to it (at least any that I made). It should be noted that Cienna is the only NPC that I have found that this is happening to. You can also note that she has mismatched skin tones from face to body but all should be the same texture (Women of Skyrim). See the screenshots. She's got eyebrows She looks like Powder Here is my mod list: Here is my skyrimprefs.ini and lastly my skyrim.ini Also this is my first post so if I forgot something well, let me know. Happy to provide.
