  1. ...please turn out the lights. I need to thank Bethesda for changing the game engine and forcing me to consider whether or not I really wanted to do the necessary work to port. I've not played this or any other Bethesda game for over two months. I'm a lot happier, productive and more pleasant to be around (or so says my wife.) Thanks for the hours of fun and all, but there are better things to do out there.
  2. What do you call it when you drop something from your inventory and it just hangs in the air? Can't move it. Won't drop to the ground. Just static. All you can do is pick up and put it back in your inventory. Is there a solution?
  3. I've seen this many times. I drop a piece of clutter and it hangs in the air. Can't move it. Can only pick it up again. I've seen this happen with weapons but it is rare. It only happens with items uniquely supplied to the game by a mod. The current example is Alik'r Urn from Whiterun Valley 3.061 - exterior. Also true of the Alik'r Wine but not the eyeglasses. This behavior is not unique to Whiterun Valley; this is a common theme for misc objects.
  4. Can y'all make the mod name and plugin name the same, or at least similar so that they sort reasonable well?
  5. Sorry. Wrong forum. Please disregard.
  6. Is it necessary to overwrite stroti resources? I downloaded two mods, one having to do with Riften and one for Solitude. Both modify what soap looks like. Is it that important? Can't you make your own resources? But, since I do not mod, I do not know what folks have to work with. I just know how it affects the users. And seeing these conflicts arise makes me uncomfortable. Fortunately, Vortex detects the situation and offers a way forward.
  7. I owe several of you an apology. The DMCA says that you own what you post. I did not know that. That changes everything. I've spoken when I should have listened.
  8. [insert several quotes from disgruntled MAs] I don't care.
  9. This thread sickens me. I've enjoyed Skyrim more because of mods. Now mod authors are claiming Art and Intellectual Property rights that likely do not exist. You might as well have released these to the public domain. Art? When you get a wall at the DMA you let me know. IP? Mods are glorified mix tapes. Good luck selling that in court. As far as Nexusmods goes, I suspect they are within their rights to make sure mods remain accessible. Twitter? Yeah, they own your tweets. Facebook? Yup, they own your posts. Do not expect Nexusmods to self-immolate to assuage your fragile egos.
  10. Yes, I've read your posts on the 'Trying to Understand' thread. Not interested. Ty.
  11. Nexusmods says they do not take a dime out of donations. I have no reason to disbelieve them.
  12. I suspect that donations are relatively rare. Maybe I'm a sucker. I don't mind paying for talented work. It is how I was raised. But for now, no more donations. I've given over $200 to 20 different authors and received exactly one thank-you. I am embarrassed for them at the thoughtlessness and for me at my naivete.
  13. I don't know about most other authors, but in my personal experience the people who I used to send thank-yous to would often react as though I'd broken into their homes or something. They honestly had no idea their information was made available. This happened often enough that I figure most people just don't get how the whole setup works so I stopped responding to any of the emails Paypal sends me. The reality is, direct donations reveal an awful lot about your donors they may not realize is being revealed. At the same time, it reveals an awful lot about us as mod authors too that in some cases we may not want being known to some random person on the internet. Funneling it through either Patreon or the DP system preserves a measure of privacy for both sides. Fear of giving offense is no excuse for rudeness.
  14. It's kinda funny. I never considered seriously the reality of trying to monetize mod creation. I'm pretty sure Nexusmods has done that as well as anyone could. I doubt Nexusmods' owners/employees are driving Maybachs; I don't even know if it is a living, so kudos to Nexusmods. On the other side of this coin are the mod authors -- my limited experience with whom has, on balance, been less than desirable. I've distributed >$200 to 20 different mod authors and received exactly one (1) thank you in return. Manners are rarely innate and must be taught. I'm aware that 20 is not a significant sample size, so this must not be interpreted as representative. And with that in mind, I'll continue my customs.
  15. ...modders. The age of a mod now plays a larger role in my discriminating taste. Lately, I find myself sorting by date more often than endorsements. We are now at least 5 years out from the majority of highly endorsed mods. Bit rot tends to set in and renders some older mods too buggy to continue with. So, I pay attention to both Uploaded and Last Update timestamps. In fact, I've found some exciting mods this way... mods that ease the tedium of the game and raise the enjoyment. And I've culled some trash, so there's that. To be clear, this community has given me much happiness and I look forward to more.
  16. This seems to be a theme, as it happens in so many different scenarios. The latest is upon returning to the Orc stronghold with the Forgemaster's Fingers. He thanks me. Makes me blood-kin or w/e and then everyone attacks. I attempt to brawl with whats-her-name in Whiterun, she pulls her sword. Vilkas hacks me to death when I'm just trying to join the Companions. Is it my breath? Why does everyone attack me? I know this is not much to go on, but I ask anyway -- just in case there is a well-known cause for this and I'm just not finding it.
  17. @Pickysaurus, thanks for the feedback.
  18. There really has to be a better way. PayPal will take a 2.2% + $0.30 cut. The credit card tied to PayPal will take a 3.5% cut. By the time my $5 donation gets to the recipient, it is only $4.41 -- knocked out of Starbucks' price range. If I do this 40x, that's 80 transaction fees. Economy of scale is non-existent.
  19. I usually keep the Dragon scroll stacked on my scrolls display (from Skyfall Estate) and pick it back up during 'Seeking Disclosure.' But this never satisfies the quest's requirement. It assumes I must have sold it to Urag, so I get stuck at stage 30. Two possible solutions: Use setstage DLC1VQElder 40 , or From Urag, buy a second Dragon scroll, which he could not possess anyway.Does this sound like a core game problem or is it brought on by the housing mod? Something else?
  20. I am keen to donate to a handful of Skyrim mod authors. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your perspective, that list now contains more than 40 unique authors. Single donations is tedious. Nexus' Mod Author Donation Fund is too broad. Is there some other mechanism I might use to make this a bit easier?
  21. ...but for horses. I have a horse from Capital Whiterun Expansion (Palomino) that thinks it's home is the front gate of Whiterun. I'd like to make her stay in a stable attached to my home when I'm not using her. I suspect "home" is some sort of flag on a character's attributes, so maybe there is a console command I can use?
  22. Is there a mod that tells me what kind of soul was captured? Something better than 'a soul was captured.'
  23. Thank you, Patafoin, for finding this solution: A year later and still relevant. Been fighting this FPS thing for the last five days. Happy to reinstall the mods I've been wrongly blaming for this nonsense.
  24. There are two things about Skyfall Estate that are absolutely brilliant: One-button storage of multiple items, and Reference to the items in that storage while crafting. If there are mods specifically for these two features I've not yet found them. The closest I've come is Automatic Item Storage for Skyrim. Skyfall Estate uses the latter mechanism when Tanning, Enchanting, Smelting, Blacksmithing and Alchemizing (had to look up the gerund form of the word.) This is a capability I never want to be without. But alas, I've grown tired of the Skyfall Estate mod. So, how hard is it to reproduce these effects? And do so 'on demand'; e.g. declare a barrel as special storage and link its contents to the forge?
