So after having problems and noticing this thread (and all replies), I was able to get it work with firefox: I had to disable HTTPS everywhere AND open Nexus Mods in a private window. I had to do both: if I didn't disable HTTPS: everywhere, I could browse the site, but not download. However, if I disabled it, I was no longer able to even access the site...

I've been having this issue as well... This is what I've been doing. However, this only works as long as the mod doesn't have a prerequisite... Unfortunately, when I try this, I just get logged out and can't log back in to actually download the mod...
