I know this is super late but I had the problem as well. Did you by any chance spawn in the Sonic emitter using console commands? I'm pretty sure doing that is what was causing my game to crash because when I went back to the sink and got the Sonic emitter off the sink central intelligence vendor and used the Sonic emitter it sells it didn't crash. I hope this helps you or anyone else that happens to find this. Edit: I forgot to add, as a last resort if you can't find any way to fix it you may just have to use console commands to complete the quest. I'm not sure if it'll still give you the upgrade to take down force fields so you may have to spawn that in yourself. You can look up the complete quest command and Sonic emitter em pulse wave ID yourself.
