Trying to get dialogue to trigger
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Skyrim's Creation Kit and Modders
As an addendum, I have also managed to discover the existence of a certain dialogue bug (you need to save and reload before the dialogue can function), which quite frankly explains a LOT about the issues I've been having. -
Trying to get dialogue to trigger
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Skyrim's Creation Kit and Modders
Figured it out! I think. Well, I figured out what I was doing wrong with the dog. I unchecked the 'Exclusive' checkbox and set it to Blocking, along with adding a 'IsInDialogueWithPlayer' condition. Feel kind of embarrassed, to be honest. Still, I appreciate you guys helping, thanks! -
Trying to get dialogue to trigger
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Skyrim's Creation Kit and Modders
Yeah, I suppose I wasn't being specific enough. I'm familiar with how conditions work, but the weird thing is that the dialogue does not trigger even when I have everything set right. (I do appreciate the visual aids, though!) Here's a better example - after a while I gave up on the assassin thing and moved onto one involving a dog. The idea is that, after following a dog to a certain location and getting close enough, the dog would approach the player and give them a key via dialogue. I set it to the proper quest stage and everything, used a forcegreet package, and yet the dog does not initiate dialogue, or even do anything other than sit there no matter how much I activate it. It's bizarrely similar to the assassin thing - I wondered at first if it was because the proper order of packages on the alias was screwed up (I understand the game gets really particular about that), but I get the same result no matter how many times I rearrange the order. And before anyone asks, yes, I generated a SEQ file (repeatedly, actually). I have to assume I'm missing *something,* the question is what. Hard to find the solution when you aren't even sure what the problem is. -
Ordinarily I'd rather not bother anyone with this, but after several literal days of this nonsense I figured I might as well float the question. I'm trying to make a quest where you can either rescue an NPC from an assassin, or kill the NPC on the assassin's request. However, no matter what I do, the assassin's dialogue upon the NPC's death simply will not trigger. I've tried things like Forcegreet packages and the like, but the game just stubbornly refuses to have the assassin say anything. I'll admit I'm not as experienced with the creation kit as I should be, but I'm open to suggestions while I try to figure this out.

Need help with custom message menu
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Fallout New Vegas's GECK and Modders
To answer WarMachine, it actually does change to the first message. I will never understand scripting. As for dubiousintent, the example in the wiki actually worked, thanks. I want to know why I never came across that page despite several hours of searching. Freaking internet. -
I'm pretty much at my wit's end with this one. To sum up, here's the script: Scn NoticeBoardUnderworldTestScript Short Button BEGIN OnActivate if IsActionRef player == 1 showMessage NoticeUnderworldMainMessageendif END BEGIN GameMode set Button to GetButtonPressed if button == 0showmessage NoticeUnderworld01Messageelseif button == 1showmessage NoticeUnderworld02Messageelseif button == 2showmessage NoticeUnderworld03Messageelseif button == 3showmessage NoticeUnderworld04Messageelseif button == 4showmessage NoticeUnderworld05Messageelseif button == 5endif END Works so far until it shows the second message - for instance, if I select NoticeUnderworld01Message. The message appears, but when I try to exit it it instantly pops up again no matter how many times I try, forcing me to exit the game entirely. I have no idea why it does this--I've looked through similar scripts already in the GECK and I've seen nothing that indicates I'm doing something out of the ordinary. Any help would be appreciated.

Because I cannot get GIMP to work, I'm putting this up. Basically the idea is that each faction gets their own textures for certain weapons, like Brotherhood colors on Laser Rifles and Talon Company logos for assault rifles, that sort of thing. Someone did similar for New Vegas, but they mostly just slapped logos on weapons and not actual recolors. Food for thought!

Old monitor + new pc = ?
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Hardware and software discussion
I did a check--apparently general idea is that getting a refurbished board is a bit hit-and-miss, because sometimes you're never sure just HOW it's refurbished. I could be wrong. Anyway, that's besides the point--since I only have the one processor I may as well return the motherboard for a full refund (Amazon had this holiday deal thing) and get one that DOESN'T need a BIOS update. Like this one: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAJ8W8M49181&Description=B250%20Pro%204&cm_re=B250_Pro_4-_-13-130-989-_-Product I have no doubt that 99% of you guys are far more tech-savvy than me, so if you have any alternate suggestions, go ahead. Thanks for the help so far! -
Old monitor + new pc = ?
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Two things. One, I was afraid of that, and I am highly tempted to do a whole bunch of expletives (but I won't, because this is a public forum and we should have standards). Two, something that I CANNOT believe slipped my mind and should've added in the first post. Basically, the motherboard was labelled "refurbished" on Amazon. ...yes, I KNOW it's best not to get refurbished parts, but it was the only one in stock at the time. You're free to point and laugh. -
Old monitor + new pc = ?
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Hardware and software discussion
While I try to figure out if the motherboard is in fact faulty (which will likely be nigh impossible given my lack of options), there any motherboard alternatives anyone can suggest? Preferably one that A. won't burn that big a hole in my pocket and B. will NOT need to be updated for the processor. In addition to that, is it possible to update the motherboard's BIOS without having to replace the processor? I mean, considering that the thing won't even register the monitor I doubt it's possible, but I want to make absolutely sure I don't miss anything. -

Nevermind, old processor doesn't fit. I REALLY hope the motherboard's just faulty, because I can't afford a new CPU. I'd at least be able to return the motherboard for a full refund. -

I still have my old one. I'll give that a shot, see if anything happens. Also, that website you linked to keeps crashing. They seriously need to work on that... -
Old monitor + new pc = ?
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Hardware and software discussion
...been looking into a few things, and something occurred to me. If the motherboard is faulty, would anything connected to it still turn on anyway? Like the fans and such. I also read somewhere that silence on startup is also a sign of a faulty MB (though I wasn't able to find any citation on that). -

So you're saying I have the wrong kind of processor? I apologize if I seem like I'm not getting it. -
Old monitor + new pc = ?
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Unfortunately, yeah, the main issue is that the monitor will not get a signal no matter what gets plugged into where. I know someone who will be able to let me borrow their monitor to see if I just need a new one, so hopefully that'll get SOME kind of result. I appreciate the help, at least. -

Oh, fabulous. Nothing's ever easy, is it? Can you at least go into detail? Dunno what a BIOS update is, or even how to do one if it's possible. -
Old monitor + new pc = ?
doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Hardware and software discussion
I did try removing the graphics card and plugging into the motherboard, but there wasn't any noticeable difference--still no signal, no beeps. Dunno if that means the parts are defective or if I just need a new monitor. I should add that I did try using a different monitor to test it--except it was one of those big clunky ones from way back when that's heavy enough to crack your skull open. Still no signal. Makes me a bit nervous, to be honest. -

doctorzero0 replied to doctorzero0's topic in Hardware and software discussion
No beeps, actually. The machine turns on, I hear the fans, there's some rather low electronic noises you'd expect when it turns on, but no actual beeps. I know you're supposed to hear beeps when it turns on, I just haven't figured out why it doesn't. -
Dunno if this is even the right place to ask, but I may as well. I recently managed to build a new gaming pc, with all the parts save for the monitor being new. However, even after putting it together, the monitor will not get a signal. Before you ask, yes, I connected it to every port the PC has including the motherboard and the graphics card. No dice. I don't know if there's something wrong with the parts, or if I just need to buy a new monitor. I've been looking around for a while, yet have come up with nothing, so I'm just going to straight out ask. Is there ANY mod that includes new birthsigns/standing stones other than the ones already in the game? And I don't mean modified versions of the originals, I mean outright new birthsigns. And if not, is it possible to mod any in? I'm getting a little frustrated at the lack of information on that part.

I leave for a couple weeks, come back for more opinions. Eh, it's all good. Anyway, I'm already talking to my sister about your suggestions, so I really appreciate the feedback. Getting computer parts is never easy.
-
After some effort, I looked over my PC to check out the parts. I currently have a Solid Gear SDGR-750E for the power supply, a HyperX Fury for...can't remember what, but I know it has something to do with memory, and an AMD a4-7300 for the processor (hard to make out at first due to the sticky substance used to keep the fan on it). Topping it off is an R7240 for the graphics card. And before you ask, all the parts save for the graphics card were gifts, so we were working on a budget first and foremost. Given the price tag on most parts these days... As for the case keeping it all together...I threw out the box for it months ago and there's no brand names on it. I'll get back to you on that. Sorry.
-
Wow, I'm surprised you looked all this up, thanks! I've been busy looking through other parts myself--I'll be honest, I'd really prefer to avoid doing any overclocking, and I'm not sure if I really want to replace my motherboard either. Trying to find really good graphics cards and CPUs compatible with the one I've got, though, is proving...tricky. If you want to put up another list, go right ahead--I'll appreciate it. I'll keep looking myself, though.
-
Alright, I've found two items compatible with my motherboard--the Evga GTX 650 and the AMD athlon 860k. Before I decide to buy them, though, I'd like to know if there's anyone here who knows how well they work? Just to be sure--I'm just trying to be cautious. ...maybe TOO cautious...
-
I've looked into the AMD FX-9570, though I can't find out anywhere if it's compatible with my motherboard. I'll keep looking, but if anyone has a suggestion, go ahead.
