Alright, that wasn't the issue. I should have mentioned I have the GOTY Steam version. Apparently the crashing on travels is common and I can't do anything about it. AAARRRGHHHH.

Thanks so much for the comments, guys. I am really, REALLY keen on helping out with the Skyrim mods. Skyrim itself is taking over my life and I remember kicking myself for not offering help on some of those great Oblivion mods that came out.
