  1. So, on a scale of 1 to 10, how hard would it be to get my Vortex mod setup working again with Skyrim SE if I were to say, uninstall the game by mistake, along with... well... Steam? Asking for a friend. :whistling:
  2. Other servers are working fine. Just wanted to report the issue.
  3. BAM! Windows Event Viewer + Google = Success! Turns out it was a Steam problem. Had to remove a file called ClientRegistry.blob from the main Steam folder. Restarted Steam, and I'm back in business. Where "in business" is defined as spending the rest of the night reinstalling all my mods. Oh well. At least the problem's fixed.
  4. I'm logged into Steam and my Firewall is not blocking Steam, SkyrimLauncher or TESV. Running as administrator and even tried different compatibility modes.
  5. Double-clicking on SkyrimLauncher.exe and TESV.exe causes the Windows pointer to act like it is starting a program, but nothing happens. Same when trying to start Skyrim through Steam. No Skyrim related applications show up as running in the Task Manager. Disabled all mods; no go Disabled all background programs and services; no go Uninstalled/Reinstalled Skyrim; no go Uninstalled, deleted all remaining files(except for save folder) in both SteamApps/Common/Skyrim and in MyGames/Skyrim, then reinstalled; no go System Specs OS: Windows 7 Processor: Intel i5-2500k RAM: 16GB DDR3 Video: 2x Nvidia 560ti in SLI Sound: Creative X-Fi Titanium HD Storage: Crucial M4 128GB SSD I've been running Skyrim on this system since Skyrim came out. Anyone know what might have caused this sort of problem?
  6. I've been having this issue for a while, and now that I'm done with Mass Effect for a while, I thought I'd try to get some help before I jump back into Skyrim. After exiting the character creator at the execution site, my screen briefly flashes(to windowed mode, I think. I see Microsoft Blue at the top of the screen when it happens), and then Hadvar gives me the line about it being a bad time to return to my homeland no matter what race I pick. Then, when I am finally able to view my character in 3rd person perspective, my head is gone, as if I had changed my race. I can get around this by downloading a save of the appropriate race that's been saved after character creation and just editing it from there, but that's a workaround, not a fix. I've done a clean install, deactivated all my mods... nothing helps. The one thing I haven't done is flat out delete all my mods because I think I'd rather just deal with the problem than do that. I'm running on Win7 64-bit. My PC is running with a 2500K Sandy Bridge and 2x 560TI in SLI(latest drivers) and on board sound(ASUS Maximus IV Extreme Rev 3.0). 8. I used to be a Breton, then I took a werewolf to the knee.
  9. I doubt the Workshop will be able to run the game and take a screenshot for every mod that is created, but I could just be silly. I also doubt the workshop can effectively determine what a mod can do and write a readme for it, but I just might be an idiot. These issues that are pointed out aren't the fault of The Nexus, it's the fault of the author of the mod. Yes, you are corrent, but i was thinking about that workshop would force author to make the mod so it installs itself with push of a button and wouldnt allow some unfinished folder jungle. It won't. There were tools for both Oblivion and Morrowind that, given a little effort on the modder's part, made installation a breeze. These tools are well known and widely used by the community, yet not all modders made use of them. Putting an official Bethesda seal of Approval on such a tool will not change this.
  10. Here we go! what kind of artistic freedom do you expect when Publishers would start listening to people like you? Anime and nude mods are disgusting? says who? in which "natural law" Sir is this an irrevocable fact of life? People are born nude and anime is a form of Art for centuries. I have no problem with you expressing your opinion but please make sure that it is obvious that it is your opinion. My goodness, you're right! These totally add an artistic flair to the game. http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/1307935-1322807109.jpg http://static.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/41158-1-1322587946.jpg And once again, you are certainly free to not download those if they don't suit your personal preferences. And we are thankfully free to dismiss your irrelevant complaints that they shouldn't be allowed for those that do prefer them(which I personally do not). So we all win.
  11. Or you could just not download those things. You have that power, you know.
  12. Just thought I would point out that there would be no third party mod managers if they weren't needed. They exist to add functionality beyond what the TES games' built in mod handler was capable of. The same thing will happen with Skyrim. No matter how good the Steam Workshop thing turns out to be, its functionality will be inherently limited by what is officially supported. That means that if you want to get the most out of your modding experience, there will still be WryeSky(or whatever it gets called), SRMM, BOSS, and whatever other third party apps get created to enhance, repair and add to the Skyrim experience.
  13. Um... most of the time? If you want to bring up realism, then if you try to just dodge around you are going to tire yourself out and get killed. You do whatever defeats the attack and either a) uses as little energy as possible, or b) sets you up for the greatest opportunity. If your opponent is unskilled, then sure, they may not react and you could have an opening, but if you can step, so can your opponent. The surest way to not get hit is to make certain that there is something between their weapon and you. But enough of realism. This is a game.
  14. Okay, I think I get what you're saying now. Much less trusting "the developer knows what's best" and more fatalistic "well what can you do?" And I would agree that blocking that is as effective as a shield in dual wielding would be unbalanced. I think that the key (when it comes to modding it) would be to stick with the theme. Dual wielding is obviously designed to be a much more active style of fighting than sword and board. The timed parries I mentioned earlier would fit in with that theme, as you would have to be able to know exactly what moment to switch from offense to defense or else you take damage and interrupt your flow of attack. Honestly, I would like to see something similar for two-handed weapons, as turtleing without a shield just doesn't make any sense to me. Two-handers would be the strategic style where you pick the best time to attack and inflict massive damage while trying to keep them outside of their range with your larger weapon. Sword and board would be a more defensive style that has the benefit of letting you calmly take on multiple opponents at varying ranges. Dual-wielding would be the frenetic up close combat where you're constantly pressing buttons to attack, dodge and parry your way to victory. Instead of simply looking for the most powerful combination you would just pick the style that you found most fun. Which is kind of the whole point.
