  1. I find it confusing from time to time aswell when people say "modding" and mean "using mods" whereas "modding" to me always meant the process of creating mods. "Using mods" is playing the game. ;) To be on topic: NMM is a pretty good mod manager, makes downloding and installing easy. But most importantly (to me) it makes uninstalling easy. As opposed to manually uninstalling. Most people recommend to use BOSS to sort the load order. As for bsa unpackers (not really needed if you only want to play the mods):My link, My link, My link Wrye Bash is another tool that can install mods and a ton more stuff.
  2. That's an awesome explanation! :) But I remember there was a mod that removed the breathing sound for argonians. No idea what it was called.... There you go. Most of the times it's easier to find mods through google than the nexus search!
  3. @nakakita: Littleorks newspaper WIP
  4. Well, what did you expect? Everyone watched that video. Everyone wants flow based water, seasonal foliage and spears. If there was a person (or a team) that was capable of this and had the time to do that, there would be a mod. But there isn't. Except for Water, which is not good enough for you. Or are you inquiring further because you mean to do this mod yourself?
  5. Yesterday I bought Dawnguard and today Steam ate my Game. Plus the CK for dessert. >.< It's working again, but meh. Took an hour to get it all right again. On topic: Slightly larger meshes seem promising. If I crawl very close I can see it's floating over the skin. I will try to get a smaller mesh without getting clipping issues. Also, I used the body normal map for this test, do you hink a blank normal map or maybe one with the tattoo would be better? I'm going to try that aswell. There's that seam around the neck and a lot of people seem to be allergic to such thing. Sorry, Ironman, I don't measn to highjack your mod. Just can't sleep with unsolved riddles. Once I got a working concept I'll stop. (Not artistic eneugh for tattoos anyways. Except from checkerboards.) ;D
  6. Request from p16 Mod But I'm not going to pick up another one. :P
  7. And here I thought RPGs were about playing a character.
  8. Uhmm.... is the head still female? Can't really tell from that picture. You can try the console command sexchange cause that changes only the body, not the head. Your pictrure looks a little as if you already did that. ;)
  9. You know, I agree. I skip mods with next to no description. I skip mods that have a description with so much spelling mistakes I can't understand it anymore. I skip mods that add "moar uber itemz for teh lolz". I just think "screw you" and close the browser tab. There's more tabs with better mods. But reading this from a person who has no mods uploaded and given one endorsement so far makes me all defensive. I believe my mods have some reasonable well descriptions so I'm probably not the target audience of your little talk here. But still I'm a mod author so I can't help but feel like you're telling me what to do. (And actually you are not the first one to start a topic like this, you are just the first one I reply to.) I mod because it's fun. I upload to share with people who like my work. If you don't you're not my target audience. I'm not selling a product here. Noone is. If a mod with a bad description gets no downloads but the author had fun doing it he/she is probably already working on the next one no matter if you download or not. Do you stop your weekly fitness exercise because noone is cheering? No, because you are doing it for yourself.
  10. I thought this one was doing it. Came up on a nexus search for water and is the second most endorsed one. The one with more endorsements is a previous version of this mod. From the description: - Rivers that flow in the correct direction for the most part, ocean waves that flow towards the coast.
  11. You can write an article to promote your mod. That will be on the front page in the "file news".
  12. After downloading through NMM did you install the mod in the mods tab (upper right corner)? Click the mod to highlight it, then click the small blue jigsaw piece with a red arrow. That will install the mod. A checkmark will appear in the box in front of the mod name. NMM will activate the mod for you. To check it's activated go to the plugins tab (upper right corner) to see if the esp has a checkmark aswell.
  13. Try using the search. Search for water. Sort results by endrosements (descending).
  14. Dawnguard and Hearthfire \o/ Is it x-mas already?
  15. I had that once. I resolved it by moving a mod that changed the guard's helmets to be open faced down in the load order. Sorry, can'T remember what that mod was called. Friendly gaurd helmets maybe? Anyways there'S a couple mods that do that. And I don't know what all the mods in your load order do. I see various guards, if that's the only changing guard I'd suggest moving that down in load order and try again.
  16. Here have a look at this.
  17. Here a step by step tutorial on how to create custom race with vampire and werewolf support. It also covers quest fixes for when the races is needed and an easy way to make all armors wearable. The only things needed are the CK, the ability to read and a little patience. What the tutorial does not offer is guidance on how to change apperance and abilities, but I'm sure google will find an apt choice of tutorials for you.
  18. Uhm, it's the file's ID that gets appended. But that's probably what you wanted to say. Still, till NMM gets categories to sort mods it is extremely annoying if mod title (what I remember downloading), archive name (what I look at in the mod tab) and esp name (what I look at in the plugins tab) are not consistent. A search function within NMMs mod tab would be really helpfull aswell.
  19. Ok, so you don't know where to start. I can imagine it's quite overwhelming at first. Unfortunately I haven't edited the redguard's adrenaline rush or created a power with a cooldown timer. So if you want someone to talk you through that step by step that's not me. I can however tell you how to start modding (based on the two examples you gave on what you want to do): Open the creation kit. In the object window find the "spells" category. Click it. Now find the Redguards adrenaline rush. Doubleclick it. You will get a form with different values. Try what you can and can't change. It will most likely reference other form such as magic effects as well. You can also try to edit these. Put the name in the top left searchbox and choose "all" in the lower left corner of the object window to search through all categories. Save your changes to a plugin and check it ingame, If it's not what you wanted, go back to CK. Have a clear goal of what you want. Don't worry if it's doable. You'll notice if it's not. If you need a general feel in dealing with the creation kit follow a basic tutorial even if it's not closely related to what you want. You will learn your way around the CK and get an idea where to look for what and how to use it.
  20. Burn Freeze Shock Effects
  21. Well, no, you have to know that for yourself. I suggest you make up your mind about what specifically you want your mod to do, search for related tutorials and start working. When you are stuck, come back with a detailed description of what you want to do, what you have already tried and what excactly is the problem.
  22. You can not clogg up the crafting menu by making the recipes only visible when the player has a certain item, which is preferably not consumed by the crafting process. (For crafting mutliple items in a row.) When the player is done he drops the item and the crafting menu is clean once again. The extra item is a switch of sorts. ;) I use that method here. Vanilla recipes that already do that are most of the "fur to leather" types, they are only visible when you have the fur. And dissapear after crafting cause the fur is consumed.
  23. In Nifskope find the BSLightingShaderProperty and then in the Block Details ShaderFlags1 doublick the list with entries to get a drop down menu and tick SLSF1_skinned. That tells the nif to actually use your weightpainting. Alternatively when adding the BSLightingShaderProperty after you exported from Blender use one from an armor or robe not from a static item.
  24. That's a good argument. And with the way this thread is evolving we should definately keep it for... uhm advanced beginners. That's how I see myself. ;) And hopefully any thread we start in the Mod Talk will not get crowded with nonsense too soon. I keep bringing the Mod Talk forum up because I want to help modders who did not make it here yet. I think they could profit from a lot in this thread.
