V-sync - on , not adaptive , adaptive turns it off , you want it on cuz it's a good setting to have on . Max prerender frames - 1 , reduces input lag . Antiasing - you might want it "Application controled" , no need to force it on in all games since it may interfere with a game's original setting , what if you want a game to run 4x ? or 8 x ? Antialiasing transparency - supersampling - no performance penalty if your card suports it , from 8xxx series and above all cards suport it . The rest are ok.

Ah kids these days . Here are the facts : without triple buffering with V-sync turned on you have significant framedrop and at high framerates some games exhibit the phenomenon called "screen tearing" that is fixed by V-sync. Now with tripple bufering you also lose fps but less . Also with triple buffering on it increases mouse and keyboard lag a little bit. V-sync is used mostly to increase smothness because not all people have high end systems that are updated every year to use it only for screen tearing at high frame rates .It causes framedrop only when when frames are above 20-30 fps , when you dip bellow that the framesdrop will vanish, in other words with or without V-sync its the same fps ( if you have tripple buffering on). You might find it helpful at low fps because not all frames are created equal , 10 fps with V-sync > 10 fps without V-sync and you won't feel like you are playing with 10 fps with V-sync on . The only trade-off besides the framedrop is the input lag that comes with tripple buffering but you can disable it if your hardware can handle the initial framedrop that comes with V-sync on . Even at high framerates 60 fps with V-sync > 60 fps without. These are the facts , now either you are stupid or ignorant or you are not , you do have google don't you ? Look it up , see the uses for V-sync . I'm curious what this new G-sync can do .

Sorry to say it but any performance or fluidity increase you see with it , is just a placebo effect , the setting does nothing , absolutely nothing. Adaptive vsync turns off vsync if the framerate drops, rather than switching to a 30 fps cap like normal vsync. It's not a marketing scam since it does exactly what it's supposed to, but it's not really very good either since you add some screen tearing back. Triple-buffered vsync is far better, and both AMD and Nvidia users can easily enable that with external injectors like D3dOverride. It is a phony setting , the only thing that rings true about it is the adaptive part because it can turn its self off( when you need it the most i might add) . And "normal" V-sync caps at 60 if that's whats your monitor packs in Hertz, just like adaptive V-sync , the only diference is that adaptive V-sync turns itself off when your 60(Capped !!!) frames drop bellow that , say to 59 ! So why would you use it ? I could give you a qick answer but you might not like it if you are using it , and my answer is you are using it becasue you are stupid :) . Depends on your needs more or less , if you are using V-sync for screen tearing then it does its job , but most people use if to create smoothness in troublesome areas of games where framerates might drop . Even if you are using it for screen tearing alone you are still an idiot , ok enough of that ... take care .

Oh yeah , forgot about it , a 500 watt power supply needed for a GTX 760 but a sandard 400watt one may suffice depending on what the rest of your components are . A 400 watt power supply may slow your system down a bit if it cannot meet power demands of your components .

Wait until after the holidays when prices will drop then get the GT 760 . At the time it's twice the price of the 650Ti but with twice its performance also . This is true for todays times , when buying cards also consider the future , because in the future games will be optimized for newer technology so i say twice the price but more than twice the performance , because future games will run much faster on the new technology . But alas 650 will suffice for Skyrim i agree , but if you want the best bang for the buck get the 760 like i said . Also as far as i've read from other posters here ... again , i don't know about AMD cards but with the Nvidia drivers comes a setting "threaded optimization" which comes with a default "auto" which is just perfect as forcing it on would hinder performance in single core games and by forcing it off it would do the oppposite in games that take advantage of multiple CPU cores. I figure AMD cards should have it also since it seems like such a "no brainer setting" to have. Dragon Age Origins also sucks in 4 CPU cores as it is a CPU hog , it's very strange indeed, any other things , out of place besides low frame rate in these games ? Do you have this issue iin all games of just the ones mentioned ? Upgrating your CPU will be money thrown out the window because that is not a bottleneck , unless the CPU is defective by some extreme circumsstance , i say extreme circumstance because even if one of the billion transistors stops working the CPU will be toast and will fail to boot your system in the first place. More likely candidates for failure would be motherboards or even graphic cards , but motherboards more often , your system may still work with them defective but with issues .... Even a dual core will suffice for that card , i'm not joking , when it comes to gaming GPU's take most of the load , and by that i mean a 100 $ Cpu would be right for a 500$ card , 1/5 that's the optimal ratio in my opinion .

One likely culprit could be faulty graphics drivers , especially if they were not installed on a clean system in the first place . So the rest i will copy paste from a thread i answered just some time ago , try this : "Try a diferent catalyst driver , though be careful , these pieces of software often have lefovers when unistalled the usual way . I know for sure that to be the case for Nvidia , i'm not sure about AMD , do some digging on the internet . Some basic universal rules would apply to radeon like to Nvidia , for example disable all third party programs interfering with you graphic card ,overclocker apps, monitoring apps and so on , whatever you use in conunction with your graphics card disable it all before unistaling the driver. Also unistall all the stuff that came with the driver first and after that the main graphics driver, restart PC.... Then use a driver cleaner and select the proper filters , more than one filter needed because first you have to wipe out traces of other things that came with the main driver. I run Driver Sweeper Driver Fusion , and DriverCleanerDotNet ( best of the bunch ) , i run all of these in case one misses something. The i run CCleaner . Now it's safe to install a new version of Catalyst , sigh , i know ....But it's worth the trouble i can assure you , better this small hassle than a complete windows reinstall right ?"

All the things i mentioned in my first post give an increase in playability i can attest for all through my own testing and i can assure you i am very meticulous in such matters . You can trust me or better yet test all the things i say in games though that may take some time , or don't trust me if you feel like it , it's all up to you mr "author". I feel like a bee that's gathered too much honey and must share :smile:.Putting common manners aside for a second i can brag about being a PC performance myth buster haha . Use d3d overrider as it uses its own built-in V-sync mechanism with only 4 mb of ram usage and it is very very well optimized , Nvidia Inspector.exe uses the Nvidia forceware V-sync's which are not as good , in some cases they can be complete crap, especially wuth the beta drivers. It doesn't have adaptive Vsync and it doesn't need it , because what does adaptive V-sync do ? it stops V-Sync when frames drop bellow a certain point ( relative to monitors refresh rate ) that's all it does . Why does it do that ? Because unlike D3DOverrider V-sync with 0.000 framedop , nada! zero ! the forceware version of V-sync eats a lot of frames when it's on, though it may stop its self when after a certain point, for example in "1/2adaptive" = 60hz/2 = 30 fps, which is a fairly low fps score and you will lose the benefit of V-sync smootheness when you need it the most. And in full adaptive V-sync it would be useless because by definition it will stop when it drops bellow 60fps( from a 60 hz monitor sync) which is inevitable considering V-sync caps most games at 60 fps . And as counter intuitive as it may freakin sound THAT'S WHEN YOU NEED IT THE MOST at LOW FPS! I found that only V-sync and tripple buffering can save a game from becoming a complete slideshow in situations of 10-15 fps areas for example. The whole Adaptive V-sync idea is a fail , it was a fail before it even got on the drawing board , i mean just use common sense Nvidia , like i do , it ain't hard. Sorry for the late reply .

Nvidia inspector doesn't have a FAQ or User manual , but it is a very useful tool , for those who know what they are doing or for those who have the time to try different settings and experiment. I gave you four tips on how to make your system run smoother yet i haven't given you a FPS increase with those , now i will , i forgot about this one . Use the monitor timming called CVT-RB ( aka coordinated video standard - reduced blanking) . Most modern monitor screens, LCD's and LED's support it , as for laptops i think it should pose no issues either . How to use it : enter you forceware settings menu, - Change resolution - Add resolutions- Create custom resolutions(think you will get a warning message here ) and from here look for "timing" or "standard" , and don't change anything else but this then save. You have do this procedure for every resolution you want to use, i do not have exact instructions because they vary depending on the forceare version you're using. If it's not already selected as default this setting will give a fps boost every game , even very old ones , it's a free FPS boost, no negative image quality impact or risks involved in this "trade". If your screen image doesn't fit and you cannot make it right with your monitor settings just revert back.....Repeat the procedure and just use simple CVT as it is the next best thing after CVT-RB. You may also want to look into a program called WinAAM , it manages the so called accoustic something , i don't know :D , well you just move a slider and it improves your mouse and keyboard responses.These kinds of issues were infamous with Oblivion . I found there is no diference between the 128 and 192 setting but the "254" setting will make your hardisks louder and an improvement in "access time" is given . You can actually feel the difference in performance in many games . If i think of any more tips 'ill come back ;) . And don't listen to these people telling you that beyond certain point you will not notice the difference , they are just lying to themselves and they are trying to corrupt you, THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR BETTER .....Yet do not buy anything , your hardware is top notch .

I am the sort of person who likes to look at the big picture before making a decision . Not that i mean by that that details are not important , ofc they are , details like freedom of expression and other we take for granted which we wouldn't have in a dictatorship or not to the extent we have today . I believe in Darwin's Theory of Evolution and i do not believe it does enough for humans to weed out the un-intelligent , the current sexual selection process that shapes humanity is too weak of a process to weed out inefficient genes from the population .Before the industrialization of the world, nature would just do it for humans as it did for other animals, now we must take the role of nature , this missing part of the underlying workings not just of humans but of ALL creatures will soon make itself felt. Populations of animals raised in zoos will not be able to survive with their genes in the wild because the high quality lifestyle does nothing but ruin their gene pool in a matter of generations, this has been tried. All humans are entitled to a high quality of life but , not all should be allowed to breed , simple as that . And democracy is for helping everyone , non-discrimination, at least in theory BUT in practice it creates social structures of inequality just like old fashion fascism did . Democracy leads to population booms and it puts more emphasis on quantity over quality , it only works in theory .

No other system on Earth makes so much cash as capitalism , period , in fact it makes so much cash that the poor , the lower classes are better off ($financial wise$ ) in this system than those in other systems middle classes , because the rich's "honey" is in such great quantity that "it drips" to the lower classes. Kids these days... :rolleyes: Let me tell you something, 30FPS and 60FPS only differ in visual smoothness, 30 frames per second is enough if you're not looking at absolute visual realism. As for the online game thingy, that would only make sense if you have a reaction time of 1/30 of a second, or 1/60 of a second at 60FPS, but average human reaction time is 1/9 to 1/3 of a second. So there is no reason for running a game at 60FPS other than visual appeal. :smile: u have never played an online game like , Counter-strike ,LeagueOfLegends, Dota. Try one at full speed then try it at capped framerates , a difference of 10fps , from 50 to 60 can be a game maker or game breaker . I say online games because there you are playing against a somewhat smarter enemy not scripted A.i. so reaction time will give you a noticeable advantage that you can actually notice as clearly as you notice daylight. Where in single player experiences strategy is all you need, 30 fps is enough i agree with you BUT , it is not the same ! Don't be telling people that the human eye cannot percieve more than 30 fps and shet and that in movies 24 is enough to create perfect fluidity because games are not movies . In movies every frame is PERFECTLY synced. In games you will get sometimes from 50FPS the first 40 frames in the 0.5 of the second then the 10 rest in other half of the second . Do you understand ? The more fps your game has the bigger the changes of creating continuous frames because it has a bigger pool of frames to fill those gaps.

Ok i saw you mentioning Nvidia inspector and i tought to myself at first , this guy knows his s#*! and stuff but then i saw you saying you should cap ur frames at 30 and i scratched that :D . Bro don't ! Never ! 30 fps is hellish , try that with a very competitive online game to get an impression on how much that destroys a game's smootheness , u'll be beaten into the ground by the other players.

Also i wouldn't consider upgrating anythhing on your laptop because it is quite balanced, the CPU is a little stronger than the GPU (graphics card) but then again GPUs are much more expensive and you can always even out the odds by making the CPU take the bigger load. Maybe later a few more ram should be added as it is and becoming even more dirt cheap.

This is some stuff that i use. 1) Disable Hardisk Caches. These features are generally on by default and their main use is for video editing, they cause lag in many games.Open "my computer" - right click a partition-properties-hardware tab- (here you will see you harddisks) select the hardisk - properties - policies - then you will see the cache boxes enabled by defuault , thick them( they should be blank !). 2)Throttle down sound acceleration, causes minor lag .Open Start button - Run... - "dxdiag" - Sound - move the slider to "basic acceleration" then close it 3)D3D Overrider, removes lag , and quite eficiently . This tool is part of the Rivatunner utility , download the latest version 224 oc edition , open the folder of its instalation , open "tools" folder and there it is . A wonderful tool . Use "start on windows- on" and on global profile make sure you have "application detection level - High" , "force tripple buffering-ON" , "force vsync -ON " and that's it. Make sure tripple buffering is enabled via ur driver settings otherwise it wont work and you will get a fps reduction, but this is generally enabled by default so no need to worry if you havent messed with the Forceware settings. Even with tripple buffering disabled which i recomend when Fps is not an issue you will get improved mouse/keyboard response and Vsync will smoth out framerates. This has compatibility issues with windows 8 as i have read. Also make the pagefile "minimum" and "maximum" the same size if you still have time :D. Google it , it's quite easy to do . As for in-game settings when having a stronger CPU you can make it take the bigger load by using a higher resolution to smooth out object edges and Disable Anti-Aliasing which does the same but uses the GPU, which in ur case , is weaker than the CPU . I do not recomend overclocking gpus or cpus for that matter on laptops , especially if you're a beginner. You will definetly see a diference in gameplay lag if you do all of these correctly and they are easy to do, though i have to tell you Fps will remain the same , mind you 20 - 50 fps is very acceptable for a single player rpg :smile: .
