  1. a link to the mod would be useful.

Even spelling the name of the mod correctly would help so I could be nice and do a search for it. I'm not trying to rag on you, and I'm not a grammar-cop or anything. But can you please, please use proper English when posting? Especially in a post asking for help. I say this not out of scorn, because I don't know you. I say this because it would be much easier to help you out if you did so.

  2. hey guys...sry if this is wrong board to be posting this...but i'm looking for a body model that's fat....i don't want rock hard six pack for my warrior...i want him fat....preferbly with chest hair....i've been looking for 1 but can't find it anywhere?

Well mesh wise it's pretty easy to make a character fat in the CS. Grant you, you will need to make a copy of the race you want to be fat if they are a vanilla race. Then just adjust their weight. The copy of the race is to make it so you don't have fat NPC's of that race walking around all over. As per body textures, Roberts Male Body 3 had some hairy textures, as you can tell from the screenshots. Not super hairy but there is some fuzz on what looks to be Imperial, Nord, possibly Breton chests.

So my advice is download and install Roberts Male Body 3. Then open up the CS, go to race... Make a copy of one of the hairy races. Make sure you make the copy playable. Then adjust the weight for the males of said race so they're nice and fat.

    Hope this helps. :)

  3. that's not exactly what i mean. that is art because of what you said. its being done in their way. what i'm referring to is mods that add utility or a spell, etc. to the game. let me give you an example, there was a mod released not long ago that added the Mythic Dawn armor as a bound spell. That's already been done a couple times so there really is no need to do that again.

now, going from there, lets say you changed the armor texture a bit, or maybe added a different mesh to it. that is a change and i can see releasing that. but what i'm refering to is basically no change at all. there maybe a very small diminutive difference. in the above example, the spell was added to a different salesman rather than some of the other mods. to me, that's almost copying the person who first came out with the idea before that mod.

I understand where you're coming from. Especially when it comes to looking for CM Companions. Just too many pretty female elf companions. o_O Nevertheless I can't really complain about it because it adds variety for people. Other people may not be looking for the same things I am. When I find something I like and take it, someone else may find something extremely similar to what I liked and prefer that over what I opted for. It's always nice to have variety. In the context you're talking about here, there could be slight differences in how the spell operates that would compel someone to opt for one over the other. Same with utilities, actually Dez brought up spell remover. Yes the original was horrible. It would work if you moved it in the load order, then launch. However upon restarting it would stop working, and you'd have to kind of smack it in the head in OBMM by moving it. It was bizarre. I'm going to have to check out this newer one if it actually works without forcing me to move it up and down every time I want to use it. o_O

My point is it's always nice to have variety. At the same time do realize this is not a call for complacency with monotony. Oh no... Originality is extremely important. The thing is with all the smaller mods it's all been done before, and likely done with a gusto with the mod forerunners of innovation. Guess what? It's hard to outdo some of the insanely innovative stuff that's already been done, but people still continue. Take a look at the recently released Unnecessary Violence mod. Now that's extremely innovative if not in some regards mind blowing. However those really innovative mods that just blow your mind usually take a long time to produce. Ergo you won't see as many as the more mundane mods due to the amount of time it takes to create mods like that. Also there's the sad fact many who attempt to try to make mods like that often give up.

But there are a lot of really neat and unique mods here at The Nexus both large and small, you just need to look carefully and you'll stumble upon pure gold. I've been playing Oblivion since launch, and I've seen the mods evolve. What I never imagined to be remotely possible in this game is possible thanks to those innovative hardworking modders. So I'm not saying originality is bad, because it's originality that keeps me coming back to this game. What I am saying is, yeah there is a degree of monotony, but on a more positive note it does create a nice sense of variety allowing you to choose what you like best, or if you're greedy take it all. :P

  4. Ummm I didn't read the whole topic just the first post, but yes I give Kudos quite often. Usually I give them to people I see actively being helpful and friendly to other members. It makes The Nexus as a whole a much more welcoming environment. I also give them to mod authors, especially mod authors who are extremely creative, dedicated, friendly and overall helpful.
  5. 1.) Make sure you have the most recent patch for Oblivion. If you do not download it here, http://www.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads_01.html If you run Shivering Isles install the most recent Shivering Isles patch instead.

2.) Make sure you have enabled the HorseCombatMaster.esm that comes with Deadly Reflex 5.

3.) Run Oblivion with the newest version of the Oblivion Script Extender or OBSE. You can download it here, http://obse.silverlock.org/

4.) As a precaution it's usually best to have the Deadly Reflex 5 - Combat Moves.esp as the last mod in your load order. You can put it at the bottom of the list with the Oblivion Mod Manager, or OBMM, which you can download here, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097

That should cover everything. I've heard your symptoms before, and it's usually a result of not following one of the 4 steps I've listed. So make sure you have all that in order and the mod should run fine. :)

  6. hmmm I think I misread your post Shadowrace, as you weren't going to release your mod when you finished, and keep it for yourself. If you do release it awesome! Good luck with it, I'll be sure to download it. :)

    Myrmaad:

Wow we seem to have a lot in common in terms of taste regarding Oblivion. o_O So I assume you run Eshme, that is a really nice body mod. As is BAB. I like both for the fact their both kind of athletic builds, as opposed to ginourmous goznagas. haha! Not that I have anything against other body mods, it's just a matter of personal preference. :)

She really needs a few more things, so I'm installing Apachii's goddess store today

Even though I don't run Exnem I've found this mod to be really neat! The amount of work to make it must have been enormous, and if you mix and match correctly you can pull off some outfits. Plus the wigs are really nice. I can't see most of my characters wearing 'hooch outfits' as was coined by friend when I used to play World of Warcraft with my ex-b/f way back. But there's a lot at Appachii that if you mix and match right does indeed work nicely, even if you aren't using the Exnem body. I don't have much time as a friend is due to visit in a bit just wanted to add. :)

  7. Okay I want to avoid philosophical discussion on the concepts of good and evil as I will likely get carried away. I'm talking generically in a fantasy setting. I think LoginToDownload came rather close in what I mean. I mean sure I'd love to use my army to actually conquer cities. However since a full scale attack on any city will just lead to a lot of dead bodies and a bounty on my head with no actual rule over said city, why bother? I mean sure you can see me using the word evil and think homicidal maniac with no rhyme, reason, or rationality. But what about a more precise and cunning type of evil that aspires for power, and influence.

I want my evil-doers actions to actually impact aspects of the game, while I know there is a Mythic Dawn faction mod out there, the Mythic Dawn doesn't quite fit my tastes. The character in question here aspires to become a force just as fearsome as a Daedric Prince. A jailer of all souls on Tamerial, but that's setting my goals just a tad too high perhaps? :P So what about some politically motivated, malevolence... Of course throw in a dab of the macabre here and there, and aspire to rise in power in the existing power structure of The Empire, and then use your influence to bend, break, and subsequently corrupt it to your will? Something like that would be really fun! Of course if one day someone makes a mod where you can actually conquer Cyrodiil its self by waging war on the Empire it'll put a big smile on my face. Then again in the interest of having things run smoothly such a character, would likely try to attain their means of power politically through the existing structure before waging war. Or even set up her enemies, who don't even realize they are her enemies before striking. Making them vulnerable, catching them off guard. Also with that whole conquer The Empire concept said, I'm not saying kill all NPC's just because you can. No you want to take out the guards, and rulers of certain cities, then pretty much enslave the inhabitants of said city by creating your own twisted order.

I guess for the character in question, she has megalomaniac issues, and also aspires to become a force so powerful and terrible the forces of Oblivion would think twice about invading if she were running the show. But again I know I'm aiming too high here, and I have come to accept such a character may never really work out given the way the game is. So Blackwood Company? That could work for a cold blooded assassin type of character perhaps? Kill people, make money, no questions asked so long as you're payed. I never finished The Fighters Guild questline but I know those guys are bad news.

I have heard Shivering Isles is a bit less goody goody oriented? Is that true? If so it may give my baddy something to do. ;)

  8. That's all good and all, but I'll make this for myself, it'll be my first attempt at a "house/dungeon" (the private dungeon located near the house) mod, and well I want to see if I am capable of doing this. And besides I'd rather make this myself, get it exactly how I want it!

That sounds reasonable by me, though it does sound rather nifty. I mean it takes a lot to mod. I know as I do very, very minor tweaks sometimes and the hours just fly by while I'm doing them. Truly building something like what you describe, would more than likely cause me to die of an aneurysm. I can do tiny things with CS, which usually takes me a long time. But I am a total laymen when it comes to actually crafting an actual mod, let alone texturing, and meshing, and scripting, and ughhh! How people pull this off is beyond me, but I'm happy they are there! :) It blows my mind how people can just do it sometimes, even with the tiniest of mods. Not to mention so many modders put a lot of work into their projects only to get yelled at by people. That always, always annoys me! It's like you're providing me with a free-addon to my game? Whether I like or dislike it THANK YOU! So by all means keep it for yourself. I made a bunch of Katana's mixing Snow Dragon Temple, and Samurai Sword OBSE, which is basically a script that enables you to hold a one handed blade with two hands. Took me forever but, I made a bunch of one to two handed katanas with that script for sale at Fighting Chance. I even posted screenshots in the Samurai OBSE mod screenshot dealy, and someone PMed and asked me if I could release "my mod." Uhhh since it isn't exactly "my mod," rather me using existing mods and playing around with the CS. I told them I don't have permission from either author, and that it's for personal use.

    Bleehhh anyhoo,

My character's going through something really weird now. It's almost like writing a story when you play this game, you know, the characters seem to take on a life of their own and dictate their own storylines.

She just hasn't been the same since the main quested ended, she's going into a really dark place. I swear to god she stole something I never even saw her take! (It was a beer.) I only caught it because I was going through my inventory.

Oh I can relate believe me... Maybe it's because I'm a writer? Despite my grammatical errors on message boards and such, yes I'm an aspiring writer and in the process of trying to get published right now. Maybe it's because I used to LARP when I was teenager? Vampire The Masquerade. ;) Maybe it's just because I'm insanely eccentric, but believe me I can relate... Especially with TES games. My brother started my addiction when I was 14 with Daggerfall! With TES games it becomes very, very easy to form an attachment to your character, even if they are nothing like you. I had this occur with Daggerfall, I had this occur with Morrowind, and I've had this seriously occur so far twice in Oblivion.

I'll stick to Oblivion, since this is a forum for it. :) The first character I really had that crazy kind of attachment to, where I could write a book about her was Allecia Lestala my Vamperic/Necromancer/Meglomaniac/Psycho character. The thing about playing evil is you have to get in your characters head, which can be difficult. But from Allecia's perspective she felt perfectly justified in all her actions. She felt Tamerial by in large was flawed, and impure. Being such an impure realm she felt it was her place to essentially grow in her power to the point where she could jail the souls of Tamerial. In a way she was an aspiring Daedric Prince looking to call Tamerial her domain. She was clever, and knew to start small, and conceal her misdoings well. But the little megalomaniac in me wishes there was someway to actually conquer the cities of Cyrodill, eventually conquering all of Cyrodiil its self! I mean with a really neat Necromacy mod, she had like a horde of undead servants, pretty much a small army who could easily take most of the cities, say for the Imperial City... She would need to harvest more body parts and souls for that task. But I mean, yeah that would be my dream for this character, to wage war on The Empire, and conquer it. It certainly took me a long enough time to build my army and level this character. By the time Allecia was done with Cyrodiil, the forces of Oblivion would think twice about invading Tamerial let me tell you. ;) But while she turned into a vampire in the Dark Brotherhood questline, I wound up in my head saying okay she's been Listener for several centuries and now she's looking to take over the Mages Guild for political influence, and to stamp out rival Necromacers. She was a fun character to play, her mind became really twisted by Dark Brotherhood fanatasism, and that of course evolved into her own warped philosophy over the imaginary centuries. But she believed what she was doing was good. I'll spare you the details.

So like a year and half or so later I made a character raised on the Akaviri Kojima, Akane Tsunada. She was trained how to fight there by her sensei, but she wound up becoming more of a Ronin than a Samurai at first. Since she never completed her training, and wanted to go off to do her own thing and right wrongs. But she was a little misguided until she wound caught up in the main quest, and yes like you're character she had a thing for Martin. She wandered a bit after she became Champion, helping people wherever she went, finally attaining the status of Samurai. This included helping out these castles that had quests attached to them. When complete and so-and-so offered her the castle she would decline and just wander, almost trying to run away from the scars the whole Oblivion crisis left on her. Then she's asked by Ocato to become Countess of Kvatch, which is apparently rebuilding. Well she lead the troops well enough in the Defense of Bruma, which I used a mod to make much, much longer, and feel more epic. Not to mention she felt as though she needed some kind of purpose, and meaning. Maybe she could help the people of Kvatch rebuild? She was welcome as their Countess with open arms being their Hero and all, and yeah... Again I'll spare the details, but I became seriously attached to this character, and then a computer virus killed her. I really should have backed those saves up more. :(

I just had to respond to this because, yes I know! I used to have a lot of screenshots too, chronicling my Good characters adventures. But they were lost. Ah well my next Hero will probably be even better, but I'm going to wait until either the mood strikes me to play again, or a new computer before trying to save the world again. Hopefully both will kind of happen at once. Also are you by chance running BAB? Because I recognize that clothing as BAB, either that or Eshme? I used to run Eshme before BAB. :)

  9. Yeah I have this now, and it works great. The only trouble with it is that it won't manage multiple horses. I warped to someplace outside Bravil -probably the White Stallion Lodge, and when I got there I had the new horse I just bought with me PLUS the downloaded horse I've fallen in love with (and had since Prior Maborel's horse got killed) met me there, so I didn't want to lose the horse I just bought since I was trying to fix the Horse Armor.. which didn't work.. and anyway he didn't meet me anywhere else and he's nowhere around Bravil now, that I can find.. Aren't you sorry you brought it up? biggrin.gif I have horse issues! whistling.gif

I had a similar problem once, but thankfully I was able to catch it with a save. I'm not super horse obsessed but back before I lost my Champion/Countess favorite character. At the time I had managed to get the Horse from The Lost Paladins of the Divines mod, which fit my character well at the time. After re-building the stables in Kvatch I decided why not buy some horses to put in there? So I purchased one from Cheydinhal, and my Paladin's Stallion inexplicably vanished. o_O It seems if you have more than one horse, sometimes one of your horses will just vanish! But I went back in my saves and recovered said Stallion. I never really noticed this phenomenon as I usually stick with one horse. Even when I bought a new horse retiring an old one, it never really occurred to me where the old horse went. I always assumed they were in the stables where I purchased the new horse. I didn't really notice this until said modded horse vanished. I wonder where they go? o_O

err let me get back on topic here...

I normally have a large house with big open rooms filled with display cases and tables to display all of my armor, weapons and little trinkets that i always collect on my way around the game.

I loved the idea of doing this for a long time, but since I could never get anything positioned just so decorating used to drive me mad. That is, until I found The Decorators Assistant mod. Now I also love doing the very same thing. :)

  10. Valus View may very well be the place I'm thinking of. I'm not entirely sure as I'm not registered to the site connected to the link. As for Benirus Lair, that's something I'll have to try whenever I feel like playing evil again. As I said in a recent post, playing evil in Oblivion seems a bit pointless at the moment. :( Then again I don't intend to really play Oblivion again until I get a better computer. Right now I'm just kind of toying with mods that catch my eye.

Edit: Oh by the way Myrmaad, here's a mod that might help you with your horse problem. I haven't tested it much, having just found it before I lost my favorite character due to a computer virus. But it should in theory help with wandering horse syndrome. It's called Dude Where's My Horse?

  11. I mean, don't get me wrong I do very much enjoy my good characters. But I have a dark side I like to indulge. I remember in Morrowind for example, with some of the mods for vampires like Vampire Embrace, which seemed to be derived from Vampire The Masquerade it was a joy to be bad. There were also quite a few more evil oriented quests modders made. With Oblivion lately it seems to be getting a little better, but I really need something more for my evil characters. My first character in this game was a Bosmer Ranger, then I noticed some interesting vampire mods, and decided to try evil.

So I joined the Dark Brotherhood, became a vampire, and Listener. Then some Necromancy mods came out. One in particular comes to mind where you could harvest dead bodies, and use body parts and black soul gems filled with souls to create undead minions. But I found myself kind of stuck with my evil Vamperic Necromancer, because while she had a nice little abode to suit her, the status of Listener, and the ability to make undead minions... There was nothing for her to do with her abilities. No quests I could see her conceivably taking. Oblivion in general seems to be very much oriented towards good characters, and even most quest mods seem to be the same. Which is understandable, but I kind of stopped playing her for a long, long time. I mean I enjoyed my two major good characters who saved the world plenty. But I always wanted to go back to my evil little Mystic Elf. But there is not much she would do. She isn't the slightest bit altruistic, and wouldn't help someone without a major price.

I did try to keep some life in her from an RP perspective by having her rise in the ranks of The Mages guild, while keeping her secrets from them. She did it for political leverage and to eliminate the competition Mannimarco posed to her. Of course in my own mind I had to pretend things happened in a manner, in which they do not in game. Like she killed Traven. :P I would also in my mind have her do minor quests scattered about the game, and help people for the price of their soul with which to fill one of her black soul gems. So I squeezed as much as I could out of her, but then nothing more... She took down the competition made a small undead army, but what to do with it? Attack a city for no particular reason? No... That would just be a mindless killing spree. You can do that with any character. :(

Basically I want some purpose, and meaning for my evil character. Anyone else share this sentiment?

  12. The house would need a basement and servant's quarters, as I agree with the poster who mentioned they like having an NPC around sometimes.

Yeah I have to agree, for my more high status characters I like having NPC servants around. I mean okay my Champion obviously had plenty since she controlled an entire city, all the guards, her personal guard, her steward, and so forth. Also each of the castles, she claimed ownership to, or at least two ehhh my memory is fuzzy as I spent most of my time in Kvatch, had scripted NPC's going about their daily routine.

Even my Necromacer who happened to be The Listener of The Blackhand, though that should go without saying. :P Being Listener is pretty high in terms of infamous social status and all. So I felt she should have a place to call home, other than the Cheydinhal Sancturary, which is kind of ummm dull. Of course I also wanted underlings, which Pimea supplied. While there weren't many options to really interact with the NPC's at Pimea say for using Toasters Companion mod, their presence did make her feel like this dark authority figure.

As for more loner characters, well I've played Ranger types out in the forest every now and then, I like their houses to be nice and small. Out of the way close to the wilderness. Also I agree with Helzi, having a dog companion does add to the feel of such a character. I never really found a counterpart for that sort of abode for my ice-cold assassin type characters though. I'm thinking a runned down looking farm house. Inside pretty organized, but still with a darker feel. I have found a few neat places like, Ronin's stuff, and Akaviri Kojima, which is just a visually breath taking island, with loads of Japanese architecture for my Samurai types.

There was another home mod I used to run though the name eludes me. It was located just a bit north of the Imperial city off the road. Though it didn't really fit my character too well. But it was really nice, with a great view of the Imperial City. It was a very large manor. I could see a noble aristocratic type of character owning a place like that, good or evil. Though a place like that should have had a servant NPC or two. I mean it certainly made Rosethorn Hall in Skingrad look like a dump.

    rambling..

Edit: Actually to add something more constructive. What would be neat for a really maniacal evil character that prefers to hide their true nature from the public's eye, would be something akin to Benirus Manor. Where you get this large home that on the surface seems quite fancy and aristocratic, by all means normal. Yet have a secret underground lair with all kinds of occult, and dark stuff. Having a servant, more than likely fearful of you tend the place would be nice. So long as they kept out of your 'private' area, where you hide all the evil stuff. ;)

  13. It depends entirely on the type of character I'm playing, also it depends on how far progressed they are in the main quest and such. For example if my character is Champion of Cyrodiil I want to be a Countess of an entire city, thank you Kvatch Aftermath. :D Not to mention she also had several castles all over Cyrodiil that came with quests. Ravenpride, Hoarfrost, always forget the name of the last one.

If my character is a loner but good oriented, a quaint little house outside any major cities. For my more blade oriented Samurai type of characters I prefer a place with Japanese architecture for an Akaviri feel. Akaviri Kojime (sp) is really nice for that. Or even the home in the Rise of a Samurai mod, by Ronin. Snow Dragon Temple also works for some too. If I play an evil character, usually a darker feel. Depending on their form of evil this could vary. Like my Vamperic Necromacer calls Sinbloods Vampire Haven, and Pimea respectively her homes. A cold blooded assassin type of character would likely be the reverse of the good loner. Something small and out of the way but with a darker feel. Yet retain some professionalism reflecting their line of work, like having a variety of instruments of death, and poisons neatly assorted all over the place.

All in all I suppose what I want is usually dependent on whatever kind of character I'm playing. Which, reminds me I don't think I've rated Sinblood's Vampire home, or Pimea yet... Better get to that.
