  1. Would you rather they went back to GFWL? *shudder* Steam works, and is pretty much non-invasive, save the odd advert. It's probably the best compromise on the market between DRM and user friendliness.
  2. Hey, I just thought I'd make a thread to jot down some ideas that I had. Some things will not be listed either because I haven't thought of them yet or I don't think it needs looking at. What I really need is for someone with a little familiarity to see if things are possible at all, and for others to point out any ideas that blatantly suck, but I just don't see it :P Stats: Health regens at least 20% slower, and will only regen to 85% naturally. Mana regen significantly slower (80%?) for non magic races, but improves rapidly with magic skill increases. Mana regen slightly slower (10%) for magic races. Stamina seems ok, but should recover slower when injured. Starting skills: Races with no magical background should start with no magic abilities (not even Healing and Flames). Encumbrance/Inventory: MASSIVELY reduced carrying capacity in general. At lower levels you shouldn't even be able to carry full spare set of armour. This makes more sense, but also means you will have to engage in the world of Skyrim more than simply selling loads of loot by performing jobs. Of course as you go up in level you will gain some capacity back, allowing you to take more valuable items with you (instead of every item you can find). Can only carry 10 potions. Can only carry 3 (5?) scrolls. Maybe increase as magic skills increase (more magic = more understanding of scrolls?) Can only carry 3 (5?) weight units of ingredients (increase as alchemy increases?) Quiver - Carry a max of 25 arrows (linked to Archery damage, see below) Combat: Boost damage on successful hits (not blocked hits) for most weapons by a base amount (20%). This works both ways, so enemies will be more challenging. Boost archery damage significantly for successful strikes (increase base damage 40%. Decrease accuracy in exchange by a significant amount, but have it improve quickly with archer skill increases. Magic Damage - Don't know as I haven't played much mage. That's the first few ideas I came up with. Feel free to criticise or add more ideas, and any capable modders feel perfectly free to take and use these ideas. Some things I don't even know if they are possible (limiting number of a type of item you can carry for example), or if they would really be a good idea (damage boosts for meele). Some of these things may even happen already, especially the races stuff. I wouldn't know as I've only played one race so far. So let me know if any of these ideas make sense, Or if I'm just crazy. I might have been a little heavy on the Skooma....
  3. Thanks for that, wasn't aware of that issue. You've certainly pointed me in the right direction in any case. I've grabbed a download of the manual for the card and it states to activate the DS3D GX mode before starting EAX or DS3D HW games, so I'll give that a try and report back tonight (and then reinstall all the mods. At least they are all compiled in OMOD's now so it's just click and wait). EDIT: Reporting in, works fine when Xonar is in GX mode. Thanks for the pointer!
  4. Yeah, I did a full clean (documents/my games and registry) of the "acquired" version. I'm at work now but I managed to run it on the on board sound before I left. It works fine with the on board sound, and also works fine on the USB G35 headset, so I'm guessing the engine doesn't like the Asus sound card. I can look into that in more detail when I get home, but does anyone have any suggestions on what to try? I'd rather use the sound card if I can.
  5. **FIXED - SOUND ISSUE, SEE BELOW** Hey, Here's some details to try and make things easy: System: i7 920 6GB RAM HD 4870 Asus Xonar DS Sound Card Win764 HP on SDD DATA of HDD Oblivion: Game of the Year Deluxe (all DLC) - Steam Installed via Steam on E drive. Mods: No Right, so wanted to get back into Oblivion after giving my copy away two years ago. Downloaded a pirate (boo hiss e.t.c.) installed, but was getting crashes all over (with and without mods), so uninstalled and forgot about it. Then Skyrim trailers hit and I remembered the fun I had, and I purchased the Steam version. Now with no mods, it crashes in the prison straight after the guy in the other cell starts talking. Anyone got some light they can shed on this? Thanks EDIT: Off to work now, so can't test further, but seemed fine when I piped the audio through the G35 Headset (USB). When I get home I'll try the speakers on the on board sound instead of the sound card. That should help narrow it down. EDIT2: Managed to find 5 minutes before I left. Works fine on On Board sound, so seems to be a sound card issue. Any suggestions on what to try to get it working when I get home? I'd rather use the sound card if I can. Thanks
