  1. When you run Oblivion, what version number does it report (display) when it starts up? Do you have Shivering Isles installed? Do you have the Game of the Year edition? What is the source of your game: DVD, D2D, or Steam? (i.e. how did you install it) Which localized version (language) do you have? (North American English and British English are not the same, btw). One of the problems with the Official Patch(es) is that it is very very picky. If you have Shivering Isles installed for instance, you must not try the plain Vanilla patch first, but only use the Shivering Isles patch. On the other hand, the Game of the Year edition is automatically "patched" when you install the second disk (Shivering Isles) and does not need any further intervention. You must choose the same language patch to match the language of your oblivion exactly. And as far as I know, D2D sourced oblivions cannot be patched (I could be mistaken).
  2. Did you install obse or are you already running with it? The running mod did require it after all. When you were writing your "warning" message in the upload file comments for the mod, did you happen to notice the message from DeathlessAphrodite saying that you could look at/unload the contents of the .exe installer with a free program called uniextract?
  3. Get the Official Patch for your Oblivion from Bethesda. The old version of Oblivion cannot run mods created with the newer version of the Construction Set.
  4. Disable the guard overhaul, open up your game and make a New Save (probably still slow), then go somewhere, do something and then save again and see if the save goes faster this time... If it does go faster, you might want to consider removing the guard overhaul mod entirely.
  5. You need the vanilla patches, the shivering isles patch if you have Shivering Isles, the mods patches for each of the DLC mods that you have. Unlike the Official patch, these are just mods and don't have to be installed in any particular order. Okay, If I install all 3 Unofficial Patches, Do I need the Official ones? Also, I have the steam version, does that mean I already have the Official patches? The Unofficial Patches require version 1.2.0416 of Oblivion. GOTY is patched to that level automatically when you install Shivering Isles. Non-GOTY disk installs must install the appropriate Official Patch. I think Steam is patched already, but you can check by starting the game and looking at the version number that gets displayed on the screen while it loads. Once you have version 1.2.0416 of Oblivion installed, you may install the unofficial patches. EDIT: GOTY = "Game of the Year"

  7. You might want to check out Righteous Hitman by Punk Stevo.
  8. Take a look at Bben46's Reinstall Oblivion Procedure article and follow his instructions. He includes requiring you to back up your stuff (and tells you how and what) and how to restore your originally installed mods once you've loaded oblivion into the new directory.
  9. It annoyed me that my keepsake display items were now marked stolen. So, in addition to chests, I also created companion-proof display cases too. :)
  10. Other ways to find out the leading two characters of the FormID: * Wrye Bash tells you on the mod page. * Use another mod such as "What's this from?" or "Refscope" to determine from in-game what the form id is for an item that you know is from the mod you want the load number for. Since you report that you do know the correct load order number and you still cannot add the item, here is another possibility: is it possible that the item you want has actually been merged into the Bashed Patch esp so you are using the wrong load order number referring to the original mod file?
  11. That's why I created a mod to provide placeable "Companion-proof" containers so my companion would not be able to steal my stuff!
  12. What tesgecko is telling you is that it does not have permission either to read a file or to write to a file. You probably have windows 7 or vista and have your oblivion installed in c:\Program Files. You might try running the TesGecko program with "Run as Administrator" to get that part to work ---- but the TES Construction Set will also have permission problems too. You really should uninstall your oblivion and then reinstall it into a location such as c:\games\oblivion to avoid windows security issues. With Wrye Bash, you MUST read the install instructions in order to get it to install properly. Actually, several of the popular and more complex mods also require that you read the installation direction - even some of the omod-ready ones. You might want to make a habit of reading any instructions that the mod or tool author provides for you.
  13. Is your oblivion game installed under c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (x86)? If it is, you need to reinstall it somewhere else, such as c:\games\oblivion. I suspect that your Win7 security is preventing Wrye Bash from being allowed to create the directory(s)/data file(s) that it uses. Any fast and easy way to do this? Will copy and paste work? I've never tried it so I don't know for sure, but oblivion puts stuff in the registry about where it is - so I doubt a simple copy/paste would work. Bben46 has written an article about how to remove and reinstall Oblivion successfully. I recommend that you check it out: Bben's Reinstall Procedure
  14. In addition to Smooth's suggestions, you should download, install and run BOSS to see if it will fix your missing masters problem - if it does not then one of your mods was not installed correctly or depends on another mod you don't have.
  15. Then when Firefox asks you where you want to save the file, what directory are you telling it to save the file to?
  16. Find your oblivion.ini file (somewhere under My Documents near your save game files - exact location depends on which operating system you have) and delete it. Start Oblivion (it will create a new ini file which should work with your new monitor).
  17. The problem is known as "googly eyes" and here is a thread with someone else who had the problem and responses with how to fix it (at the end of the thread). Thread: I am about to commit suicide of these stupid googly eyes. well, heres another problem- i cant download wrye bash. ive tried countless times, but every time i try to download the .exe file, i get this message: (file path) could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Change the folder properties and try again, or try saving in a different location. its not my trying to place the file, it simply my trying to actually download it. Are you using Firefox? If so, go to Tools->Options and on the General Tab look for where it says which directory to save fles to - change that directory to someplace other than where it is (and to someplace other than under c:\Program Files). If using Internet Explorer: when it asks, tell it to download the file to some other directory; perhaps under My Documents... If you are running Windows 7 or Vista, you should also reinstall your Oblivion game in some directory other than c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (x86). Most people use c:\games\oblivion as an alternate install location. After you move/reinstall Oblivion, then you can install Wrye Bash in the new oblivion directory. Lastly, you don't really need the Wrye Bash self installer .exe, you need WryePython03a and the WryeBash 287 archive and the Wrye Bash 290 upgrade. Install the WryePython03a first. Then install the Wrye Bash 287 and finally install Wrye Bash 290 upgrade on top of your 287 install.

  19. Wyre Python 03a contains more than just a simple Python installation. It also installs several other libraries for Python that Wrye Bash needs in order to run.

  21. I would recommend The Quest for Demon Bane and The Ayleid Steps. There are also several other Treasure Map mods (I think it was a series) than just Meridia's.
  22. For those that are not essential, if he dies before you get the quest - you sometimes get an automatic completion when you finally do get the quest. That traveling merchant happened to die in my game while traveling somewhere - easiest assignment I ever got! :)
  23. The things you are asking can't really be explained by a "quick demonstration" if you couldn't manage to go through the tutorial(s) on the construction set wiki. You've pretty much asked for advanced topics which require you to already understand how to make the TESCS work.
  24. You might also want to set the properties for BOSS.exe to "Run as Administrator" as well...
  25. Wrye Bash is a requirement for All Natural, which is in your wish list. EDIT: IIRC, OBSE 19 is also a requirement now for All Natural according to the readme...
