  1. Cheers, I'll give it a go. With some of the lower textures. Maybe compress the normal maps for a few of the retextures. Should I be messing around with uGrids or Cell buffer stuff do you think?
  2. Ok, so I've been trying to get skyrim running nicely for going on two weeks now. Just had it about right, tried to sort some infinite load screen crashes and managed to mess the whole thing up. Anyway, on the seemingly endless trek to getting the damn thing running again, I thought I'd see what anyone thought my rig ought to be able to do with the game (maybe I'm setting my sights way too high!). I stupidly didn't back up the sort-of-working ini files and have spent the past two days trying to work out what on earth was in there that had it running so well. My Specs: Windows 8 x32 Phenom II x4 965 3.4 GHz 3.25GB usable RAM Radeon 7770 1GB V-Ram I think a lot of my problems are from memory getting filled up (I've been getting the ol' black textures popping up just before CTDs recently). Get a lot of stutter when I turn around quickly too, like the game is trying to load the whole world behind me (I'm still on 5 grids, 32 exteriorCellbuffer). I'm using all the texture mods from the S.T.E.P guide, though I've reduced the normal maps to 512x512 on most. Think I've got the game on about half draw distance for everything except grass objects and actors. Can some in-the-know person tell me: should my comp actually be able to handle this game with high res textures? Or am I barking up the wrong tree. If anyone has any advice on these memory-texture crashes, I'd love to hear it. Cheers, Chris
  3. OK, to answer my own question if other people are having this issue: I had to follow the advice in this thread: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/503105-fix-for-ctds-and-missing-textures-32bit-large-memory-access/?hl=%20memory
  4. Cheers buddy, I've been banging my head against the wall with this all week. Performance manager was showing me crashing out whenever I hit 1gb of ram usage. Now I know why! You saved my Monitor a trip out the window with this little doosey.
  5. So I've been trying to get a S.T.E.P modded skyrim going for about a week now, fighting against constant CTDs. Anyway, when I monitor the mem usage it looks like the game crashes when it hits 1gb of RAM. My specs: AMD Phenom II quad core 3.4GHz 8G RAM (3.25 usable) Radeon HD 7770 1GB I can run the vanilla game on ultra no problem, occasional crash if I hit F12 but I'm guessing that's just Steam interfering and mucking stuff up, but if I put the High res DLC textures on I get a CTD just as I enter the game (goes through the loading screen then back to desktop before character or world can appear). Using the Skyrim performance monitor there's a green dashed line at 1gb which I though must relate to my VRAM limit. But it's when the yellow memory line hits that dashed line that the game crashes. So if I'm reading that right, my game is being limited to 1gb of RAM (its fully updated so should be LAA). Am I reading this all right? Or am I making some really obvious mistakes? Any help here would be much appreciated, even if its just to point me somewhere else to ask; I'm literally about to throw the monitor out the window... C
