  1. Since I don't currently have Skyrim installed on my PC I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm looking for a nice screenshot of something oddly specific. A house, in the dark, with lights on from the outside. For example, something like this, but in the dark I'd really appreciate any screenshots!
  2. Do you have the unofficial patches? This is the kinda stuff my vanilla skyrim used to do, and mods fixed
  3. I was not overly impressed with Skyrim and wouldn't be playing it without mods It was my first BETH game and the only game I'd ever played that would CTD. I couldn't get my head around CTD's and why a game would do that or be released in a state where that can happen. Before Skyrim I mostly played Blizzard games, SC2, Diablo, WoW and never crashed on any of their games, ever Despite them even being online games I could be a in a raid group with 40 people fighting a huge dragon on WoW and have smooth gameplay Then CTD on Skyrim because I took off my hat I understand a little better today about how and why it happens. Coupled with mods actually making the game more stable than vanilla ever was. But it's still the most infuriating aspect of the game for me. As to why I keep playing it The sense of freedom, and customisation Something MMO's sourly lack And I love making the world around me reflect my own personal tastes.
  4. Maybe try modding. I know since I started poking around in the creationkit it breathed new life in to skyrim because you can really modify and adjust things to your personal taste. If only I had the motivation to finalize them and release them
  5. Great info thanks a bunch
  6. I've been working on my own little world recently and now it's started to grow, I've noticed mountains and stuff have started disappearing and I have to refresh(F5) to see them again which becomes a hassle since it actually takes a while to load. I believe this is due to not having generated Lod's correct? If so should I go ahead and generate Lod's already? Or is that something I want to hold off doing until the very end and just have to put up with invisible mountains until I'm near complete?
  7. Wheels of lul
  8. Maybe take a peak at this mod and try and see how it was done http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/4149/?
  9. I'd recommend just trying some lighting mods if you haven't already, they can have a huge impact on the environment and atmosphere without impacting your performance in the same way an enb would
  10. Interesting npc's Expanded towns Immersive battle / patrols Tons of quest mods, home mods, dungeon mods, new land mods Could grab some of the more interesting followers too that have story and questlines Just be careful if you pack your game full of npc's One stray arrow and all hell can break loose
  11. Nice I didn't know about kill all, that seems to have done the trick for now, though I presume the dungeon will respawn eventually, and could cause some serious save game bloat, it will work until I find the possible mod responsible.
  12. OK so my game kept freeze crashing at a certain point in labyrinthian, not a ctd, a freeze, which I found odd. I decided to tcl through a wall to move around the spot that was making my game freeze up, and I find this http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz5/mooniepwns/ScreenShot43.png~original There must be about 100 of them in there. I proceeded to start to use "kill" to try and clear them out, but my game crashed in the process, they are perhaps spawning infinitely. Not sure how I'll trouble shoot this, maybe make a mod that removes that dragon from the dungeon and see if that works
  13. I find them useful at the start of a game. I have a fairly big mod list that mostly consists of new enemies, npc's, places, dungeons So I often get ambushed by some high level mobs, like the guy wearing full thief guild master armor that likes to one shot me on my way from helgan to riverwood, thanks whoever put him there btw, fun times!
  14. I seem to be having a skyrim midlife crisis. I can never decide what kind of playthrough I want to do. I'll start live another life as a vampire but then decide, I'd rather join the dawnguard. Or I'll start as a good character, then commit a heinous crime and decide to restart because that character is now tainted. Or I'll try a hardcore playthrough, and die
  15. I think the community needs to stop putting modders on a pedestal like they are some kind of demigods. I mod a little myself but am certainly not well known or popular, for which I am glad. Having the kind of pseudo-celebrity status that some people have is not my cup of tea. Part of the reason why people lashed out so harshly at these modders seems to be related to the fact they held them in such high regard. and in the process, forgetting that these people are human, they have ego's, desires and faults like anyone else.
  16. "entire levels" Am I the only one who cringed at that? It's like whoever wrote that thinks games are all like super mario Totally clueless
  17. I think a better option would just be to not use it. If the majority of modders rufuse to monetize their work, or upload it to steam workshop, but instead continue to make good, high quality, free mods and post them on the nexus, then people will say "Why am I buying this weapon pack for $5 when I can get 50 weapon packs on nexus for free"?? If a mod author makes an amazing mod and puts it behind a paywall, well then take it as inspritation, and make your own vesrion of it and distribute for free. Let me highlight the key part for you. IF the majority of modders rufuse to monetize their work. IF. Modders will follow the money. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your lives, people will gradually migrate over with the allure of money. You cannot rely on altruism alone to win the day, and Valve isn't going to bring down the monetized workshop just because it doesn't have quite as much content as they want. Only by systematic destruction of its basic operation is going to stand a chance of doing that. As long as people are paying money for mods, Valve will keep it open. People still stop paying money when the mods they buy turn out to be traps, undermining consumer confidence in the product. If Valve decides the headache is too much, they'll stop it then and only then. Traitors like Chesko and Isoku are only going to pull their content if we bury their mods in terrible ratings, fill their inboxes to the brim every day, and make derivative ripoff mods of their content and encourage people to buy those instead (content that is maliciously designed to destroy the purchaser's game). Yea I know, the cynical side of me tells me you're right, and I already had that in my mind. But seeing this huge backlash gives me hope, hope that people won't let the dolla signs blind them.

  19. In response to post #24567939. #24568149, #24568224, #24568229, #24568289, #24568664, #24568749, #24568784 are all replies on the same post. Oh wow, that could actually be easily abused by the buyer " you can easily get a refund of that mod within 24 hours of your purchase" Considering a lot of dungeon and quests mods can be played and completed well within a 24 hour time frame, what's to stop someone from playing through one, getting a refund and moving to the next. If that's the case then it really limits the amount of mods that would be deemed purchase worthy to ones that you intend to use forever

  21. In response to post #24567939. Yeap this is going to cause all kinds of headaches. What if someones buys mod A Then buys mod B And they are incompatible and screw up their game. Who do they blame? Can they get a refund for one of the mods, since they can't use both? This could be a huge mess

I'm very skeptical that even the biggest of the big modders could "get rich" from this. Because of the aforementioned drop off from free to pay wall, plus the 75% cut taken. It would have to be a very big and popular mod, and those normally include a lot of mod resources, voice actors, quality insurance testers, you name it, and the mod author would have to be giving all those a cut?? I think the best a mod author could hope to make out of this would equate to minimum wage when compared to the hours they put in. But I could be wrong, I guess we'll see

As someone who's made music and put it on bandcamp I can tell you the drop off between downloading for free and paying is huge, even with a tiny paywall like $0.50 I'll have 100 download for free, but only 5-10 with that paywall there
  24. This is some pretty big news and is going to impact the modding community significantly. One of the things that came to my mind is what does this mean for a lot of the youtube channels like mxr and vatiwah that review 100's of mods. Will they still review mods if they have to pay for it? Or will mod authors start paying youtubers to practically advertise their mod because it will be seen as an investment.
