This looks promising. Thanks for the suggestion. -
Any mods for slower loot/item leveling?
TheNewAgeElvis replied to TheNewAgeElvis's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Bumping this. I hate doing that but I would love some leads on where to look. -
I'm looking for a mod that makes item scaling slower than normal (or at least, makes powerful items really rare). I really hate getting to level 30 and having a bunch of ebony and steel plate items all over the place, along with super enchanted weapons finding their way into loot all the time. I'd actually really prefer more leather and dwarven stuff at this point. :P Thanks for any help!

I chose both and went with the Paarthurnax Dilemma mod. Being able to talk the Blades down seems only natural.

would you consider werewolves and vampires daedra
TheNewAgeElvis replied to raginglycanthrope's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
The disease itself is Daedric in nature, but that doesn't make a person who has the disease a Daedra. Kodlak had lycanthropy but it getting cured got him into Sovngarde. -
Not only this, but you have the Bodyslide utility (and non-sexualized, compatible armor meshes that the mod's developer also made) that let you shape the characters, along with a very realistic, HD face pack so the people aren't all hideous and plastic-y looking. You can also download skin textures that replace the one-color scheme with something that more closely resembles human skin pattern. It depends on what you mean by "best." I have no clue about ADEC but UNP is definitely more rooted around Japanese art styles, so if you prefer realism, CBBE is the way to go. I myself use the Non-Nude version with mature skin retexture and the "official" armor pack. Combined with the ENBs mentioned above and a male skin-replacer, you get really cinematic, professional-looking NPCs.

The best / the worst bard of Skyrim
TheNewAgeElvis replied to Ferodaktyl's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Karita is the worst on account of her tune. Sven/MIkael are the best. They have some enthusiasm and sing about people loving to cook steak. Plus Sven has "Dragons now, is it? >____> " -
Don't know why the melee mechanic needs to be much different than the average boxing fight: you need to block, and you need to block often, because an unprotected hit from a strong opponent has a chance of knocking you down no matter how strong you are. Just give the AI the willingness to block more often, and make blocking something that can be done much more quickly so it becomes more practical for stopping or parrying attacks, but at a stamina cost that incrementally reduces the effectiveness as a block as the stamina declines. That is, if you're fresh, blocking a strong attack is quite practical even if you're weak, at the cost of a great deal of stamina. Doesn't matter how strong you are; a steel sword doesn't cut through another steel sword. However, when that stamina isn't enough to stop the attack, your block breaks. Broken blocks are still more effective at stopping damage than just running into something headlong, but aren't practical as a means to stave off damage if you're not encased in armor. For two-handed weapons, give them an improved chance of parrying an enemy attack when blocking. Anyone who's familiar with Medieval history will tell you that a Katana is a far better defensive weapon than your average arming sword. But this way, the health system stays: health still absorbs damage and one hit isn't going to be fatal unless it's a super-critical or whatever. It's just not a lone answer to enemy attacks.

The Game you are most desperate for
TheNewAgeElvis replied to daventry's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Too true. The Elder Scrolls series cater too much for the young children to have the depth of the Fallout series. I hope Fallout never changes, and I SERIOUSLY hope the Elder Scrolls changes. Come on, they've already got the MA15+ rating, so why bother making a game that is obviously intended for little kids? The only thing about Skyrim that I consider "mature" content is the decapitations. Without that, Skyrim would be a PG. Doesn't mean Skyrim had to be suited for kids though. If anyone thinks that Skyrim wasn't intended for kids... watch this: This is the best possible explanation I can imagine of why Skyrim was dumbed down. The "Dumbing down" for a game like Skyrim happens because fleshing it out as much as a simpler game like Morrowind would take a massive development team and a much greater investment of time, to the point where it would be financially burdensome. Fallout 3 and New Vegas had more depth, but the stylistic elements were much simpler. Simple textures, terrains, soundtrack, animations, AI, NPCs, and, as befits every recent Bethesda game, a cadre of bugs. I think the recent games of the Fallout series get looked at through rose-tinted glasses because of the maturity of the content. Yes, there were consequences of actions, but most of it was totally inconsequential to the endgame, mainly because there really wasn't an endgame. Just an end of a campaign, whereupon all the sidequests were back to the status quo. Skyrim's not really any different in that sense. Just something Bethesda has been doing for a long time. -
Fully backup heavily modded skyrim?

Hmmm. Seems there's no foolproof way to backup mods, but thanks all the same. :P -

Sorry for the necropost, but is there any information about how reliable this is as a means to save mods? Like, will putting all the NMM data in the Skyrim folder destroy anything, or will the game function independently of where NMM files are? -
Characters you can't stand to see killed off
TheNewAgeElvis replied to LordSarcasm's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Heimskr. I hate to play Imperial and see him get imprisoned, which is the sole reason I refuse to dl the Unofficial Patch. I also refuse to kill him because I love, LOVE...his monologue. -
The Game you are most desperate for
TheNewAgeElvis replied to daventry's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Definitely another TES game. The problem with Fallout is that everything is retro-50's and grey and desolate. Fallout New Vegas felt like Fallout 3 with new music and quests. Skyrim and Oblivion are worlds apart. Not only do you have different gameplay, characters, etc. but having a new environment makes for a refreshing experience. Not to mention, it really lets Bethesda show off their audiovisual muscles as opposed to "here's a song from the 40's we ripped, and also a lot of dull brown!" -
Wait. This game is dead just because they're not releasing more material for it? Pretty sure Oblivion's not dead and that game hasn't gotten support in years. :P

Don't think it would be illegal--modders have made dozens of races, but they're based on the normal skeleton. Don't know what the WoW trolls are like, but if they use the same animations as everyone else, then it's quite feasible.

Black Screen total crash on 1.9
TheNewAgeElvis replied to TheNewAgeElvis's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I'm on Win 7, but NTune is gone. I have no idea what version it was, but I've logged 2 hours in so far with no crashes. Before, I was getting crashes before 20 minutes. Not entirely sure yet but I think NTune is definitely to blame on this. -
Black Screen total crash on 1.9
TheNewAgeElvis replied to TheNewAgeElvis's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Oh no, I don't need overclocking. I just never bothered to remove Ntune because (A) I had no idea what it did, and (B) Attempting to uninstall it traditionally led to it remaining on my system, no matter what. -

TheNewAgeElvis replied to TheNewAgeElvis's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I'm *pretty* sure Ntune automatically overclocks even if the framerate is fine, but I'm not certain on that. If someone knows then we might have our culprit, because I don't know what else it could be. I'm going to test for a few hours and see what happens, but if it's still crashing, then this one is beyond me. -

TheNewAgeElvis replied to TheNewAgeElvis's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Here's a question, before I get to specs: how much does NVidia Ntune interfere with the game's ability to run? I had that on my rig a few days ago, and was getting crashes in the Helgen cells, and after removing it entirely with the Revo uninstaller program, I've logged 50+ minutes of a playthrough with no crashes whatsoever so far. -

I am indeed using a legal copy. I actually own 2 copies of this game for different platforms, just to show my support to Bethesda. :P Have not applied Admin permissions yet; will do so. Had no idea I needed to do that for the game to properly run. I suppose if I run from an SKSE launch that needs the admin thing too? -
I'm not going to defend EVERYTHING Bethesda does but I think they've earned a reprieve on this one. Skyrim is an excellent game and the mod community will keep it vibrant for years, much like Morrowind and Oblivion have been kept alive. Or like Fallout 3. If a Skyrim DLC-esque mod is going to get made, Summerset Isle would make sense but would take an incredible amount of work. Someone could always try to contact the Moonpath to Elsweyr team and ask if they can extend on that one, since it's got all the basal stuff. That mod has a really good concept, it's just a bit peculiar in its execution. Turning something like that into "Liberate the Khajiit from the Aldmeri" would make for a spectacular add-on.

1000 Hours! What is your favorite mod of all time?
TheNewAgeElvis replied to Burnout122812's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Craftable Invisible Helmets. Because what good is Apachiiskyhair (or regular hair) if the helmets you're wearing make your character randomly bald? ;D http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16575 -
From a functionalist perspective: Paarthurnax is the guy who reigns the other dragons in. If you kill him, they get mad and start wreaking havoc, and the Blades have nowhere near the manpower to exterminate the hordes of dragons who've been resurrected by Alduin. So in the interest of avoiding a cataclysmic war with horrible casualties should the dragons decide to start fighting people, it doesn't make much sense to kill him off.

Here's a link to the page, which has a description and a link to the download location. All you need to run it (mods or not) is Javascript, but it automatically will optimize your load order to eliminate conflicts. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6

Have you done a clean reinstall yet? You'd need to go to the User/Appdata/Local folder and delete the Skyrim folder there, delete your normal Skyrim folder in Steam/SteamApps/Common, and delete your saves in the Documents/MyGames directory. Pretty sure the AppData in particular preserves mod information even after it's gone, but don't quote me on that one.
