Working on a new house for one of my characters, and using some stuff from a modder's resource I found here on the Nexus. I'm having to assign the textures to the meshes in NifSkope, but I dunno how to make the texture (A) show up on the other side of the set/block of polygons (B). http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/4552/nexushelp1.jpg It's meant to be a lamp with a paper diffuser. So how do I command a texture to be two-sided in NifSkope? Am Googling the answer, but as I'm unsure of the actual terminology (yay self-teaching) I'm not sure if I'll find it. Thanks for any help!

Re-read my post- I tried running at absolute-minimum-everything, save my screen resolution. Didnt even switch on FOSE or any mods/DLCs. And this thing USED to run FO3 with quite solid visuals all the time. As for my DirectX version, 9c is the latest version compatible with Windows XP. 11 is designed specifically for Win7, which I don't yet have the funds for. Tis why I'm not blowing things up in Just Cause 2 just yet... Good call on the Extended INI, tho- another tidbit I personally forgot about. Will give it a shot tonight. Well, that didn't work. Neither did an uninstall, followed by a full wipe and clean reinstall. Hell, this damned rig is even having a hard time telling it's my one and only (and 100% genuine) GOTY main disc- the launcher seems to want to believe it's a backup. Figures- the one game I have the urge to play again is the one game this worthless pile of circuits refuses to run. FOOK it, I surrender for the night... will wrestle with cranky bits later...
-
Gah! Knew I was forgetting sumtin. Some of those optimization mods are indeed lifesavers. Will drop her in and give it another go. Would love to upgrade my rig again- an SLI'd pair of spankin'-new GTs, moar RAM and Windows 7 would be l33t- but I'm flat broke for the time being. Well, it seemed to help a BIT, but it still stops using my GFX card after a minute or two. I hate doing hard wipes, but I'm runnin' out of ideas for this one....

Alright, this is a new one on me. I remember sporadic lag bombs, but it was NEVER this bad, or I wouldn't even be reg'd here. So it's been a while since I played Fallout 3. After some dabbling and a couple video driver updates, tho, I've had the urge to pick up and replay the ol' DC experience in near-Vanilla form (fond memories of Liberty Prime chucking mini-nukes at "Communist" Enclave). But she's bein' an ornery bugger- even more so than I remember. After a reinstall, patching, some INI tweaks, reverting back to the default INI, minimal settings and zero mods (not even Broken Steel), and MORE patching thru the God-forsaken Windows Live thing, it starts up fine. But without (or with much?) fail, it completely drops my GPU within a minute of gameplay (even faster if I enter combat), and "Frames Per Second" literally becomes "Seconds Per Frame." Even exiting the game becomes an excruciating task, let alone getting out of the vault. Everything else I've been playing has been running fine and looking good doing it, but one stubborn old Gamebryo title still takes my rig down a notch. Is this the doing of the aforementioned nVidia drivers? Did I miss an INI tweak? Halp! Rig specs are in my sig. The setup has run FO3, Oblivion, and many other high-demand games well enough in the recent past.

Found a more thorough disk check in Compmgmt.msc. It took all night, but it worked its magic, and no more Chkdsk on startup.
-
Oh, to have money again. Tho tbh, I'm pretty sure my current rig wouldn't be able to use the full potential of those monsters; hell, my ol' dual-core is already bottlenecking my almost-as-old graphics card. Having only a (once-massive, now-)measly 2gb of RAM doesn't help, I suppose. But if I were to build a dream rig, I'd drop Oblivion and FO3 on one of those bad boys in a heartbeat and grab all those pretty hi-rez texture packs that would have my current machine hocking up hairballs. I wouldn't even need RAM, I'd be able to stream most of Cyrodil straight from the drive. Still, I'll wait til I can freely shove a few grand in NewEgg's direction before I consider any truly l33t upgrades like that.
-
Title about says it all. Been trying to defrag my second hard drive ( E: ), but Disk Defragmenter keeps telling me a Chkdsk is scheduled. The constant Chkdsk nagging at startup is WHY I wanna defrag in the first place, since I've already let it run... twice... then it snuck in that third time before I switched my screens on today. And it's yet to find whatever it's looking for. I've run programs off of it just fine, and haven't had any corrupted file issues; I've been able to access everything just fine. So how do I get my cranky old rig to let me run the defrag it probably needs? Been searching for answers, but nothing seems to fit the bill. Comp specs are in my sig.

Was curious about this myself. There were a couple bows up on the TES site a while back, but they got the boot on account of ripped content. Now I don't even have 'em installed, just to make sure I don't get a good screenshot with some illegal material in it. Will keep this in mind for ALL future loadouts.
-
FO3 side was giving the MySQL thing for hours, then a moment ago came back up. Now it seems the pages won't load yet again....\ PS: TES side is working fine. NV looks OK, too.

Elries has it. I rarely thumbs-down anything unless it's genuinely broken or damages my game (thru .ini files, etc). And if I did give a negative endorsement, I'd say why. Hell, most of my POSITIVE endorsements contain constructive criticism- it can really help with works in progress and bug-zapping. And as a newbie script'er, I appreciate such help. It's been suggested a few times that negative endorsements should require a comment concerning WHY the thumb is pointing down. The moderators already police the file-share quite diligently- any flame-ratings could be removed and any trolls could get the boot up the butt they have coming. And maybe add a system where the author could post THEIR comment on a critique, as well as PM the critic. Then people could test the content out again, and maybe turn that thumb around. Personal taste shouldn't be a deciding factor in how one rates a mod, unless it's discriminatory, offensive or illegal/against the site rules. I've learned thru the years to just move along if I see stuff I simply don't like, even if it does wanna make me scream (see my 'About Me page :P).

Weapon-switching script keeps crashing
Zephyr102 replied to Zephyr102's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
Still crashes, just like before... tried rebuilding from the source script, but no joy. I'll try and split this into two seperate (and shorter) scripts- one for the melee, one for the rifle. -
Weapon-switching script keeps crashing
Zephyr102 replied to Zephyr102's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
Hmm, will fiddle with that. 'Player.GetItemCount M1Aspecial == 0' is an odd line. The script is assigned to both weapons (rifle and melee), but I may try removing it from one and see what that changes. UPDATE: Mmk, tried the above- removed script from melee weapon, which resulted in a successful switch from rifle to melee, but now I need to figure out how to switch it back. Seems I might need multiple scripts, but the source rifle only had the one. Will scour it again, see if I find anything off. -
I'm trying to make a rifle with a 'usable' bayonet. I've so far gotten both weapons working in-game, but when I try to use the following script to switch between 'em, FO3 drops to desktop like a rocket-propelled brick: scn M1AFOSEScript ;renamed variables to match the mod Short Setup Short m1akey Short m1atoggle Float m1ahealth BEGIN Gamemode ; Initialization IF Setup == 0 IF m1ahealth == 0 Set m1ahealth to 95 EndIF Set m1akey to 46 ; Set Setup to 1 EndIF con_SetINISetting "fScopeScissorAmount:Display" 0.000 IF Player.GetItemCount M1Aspecial > 0 && player.GetItemCount M1AspecialM > 0 ; needs to be outside the setup loop IF Player.GetItemCount M1Aspecial == 0 IF m1ahealth > 0 Player.AddItemHealthPercent M1Aspecial 1 m1ahealth 1 ELSE Player.AddItem M1Aspecial 1 EndIF EndIF Player.removeitem M1AspecialM 1 1 EndIF ; Bayonet Toggle IF m1atoggle != IsKeyPressed m1akey Set m1atoggle to m1atoggle == 0 IF m1atoggle IF Player.getEquipped M1Aspecial == 1 Set m1ahealth to (Player.GetWeaponHealthPerc / 100) player.AddItemHealthPercent M1AspecialM 1 m1ahealth 1 player.equipitem M1AspecialM 0 1 Player.removeitem M1Aspecial 1 1 ElseIF player.getEquipped M1AspecialM == 1 Set m1ahealth to (Player.GetWeaponHealthPerc / 100) player.AddItemHealthPercent M1Aspecial 1 m1ahealth 1 player.equipitem M1Aspecial 0 1 player.RemoveItem M1AspecialM 1 1 ElseIF IsKeyPressed m1akey IF Player.GetItemCount M1AspecialM > 0 Player.removeitem M1AspecialM 1 1 Player.AddItemHealthPercent M1Aspecial 1 m1ahealth 1 EndIF player.equipitem M1Aspecial 0 1 ; defaults to normal version EndIF ENDIF EndIF END ;GameMode Block I borrowed the script from a rifle with similar functions (switching from 5.56mm AR to 40mm grenade launcher while maintaining weapon condition), and that weapon still works fine. All I've really done is changed item references and the names of variables. I tested both weapons by adding them to my inventory with console, and they work fine, so I'm left debugging the script. Since I'm still rubbish at scripting, I could use a bit of help in that department.
-
Mmk, so I've been rebuilding several weapons from Highschool of the Dead, including the drop-dead gorgeous Springfield M1A1 Super Match. Here's progress- http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/9849/hotdprogress.th.jpg (Note: Hirano mounts the bayonet on the next page of the manga, 'finishing' the gun, but this page is one of my better reference pics. PS: The Surefire grip has been moved back a bit; almost missed that detail.) As indicated in the image, I need only one more piece, a magpul. Been scouring the Nexus for a gun that already has one, but to no avail. Being the stickler for detail I am, the rifle just isn't complete without that magpul! If anyone can point me to something I can mount in NifSkope (or teach me to convert with Blender, THEN mount with NifSkope), I'd appreciate it!

You guys rock. This thread is pure win. The HAL idea really fits for some reason. I'm partial to the original red, but the blue is a nice touch- kinda makes it more site-unique. Problem with the Fallout robots is that they don't reflect the other two sites (Morrowind/Oblivion and Dragon Age); HAL is kinda... game-neutral. Now if we can just get Site Bot's opinion on this... I mean, sheesh, 8.6k activity points, 70+ posts a DAY and he can't even come to see his own thread... oh, wait.
-
Good point on the pricing- you'd think less materials would mean less money out of our pockets. But with greed being what it is, things rarely seem to work that way. :| The euro deal makes even less sense- not setting up a computer service to account for exchange rates is just lazy.
-
Ouch- I probably wouldn't have ANY of my Direct2Drive-type games if I had to work at those speeds. @ the indie convo- Audiosurf and Gary's Mod are two of the best things I've ever bought for under $10 a pop. Replay til your thumbs fall off, then learn to play with your toes. :P
-
Wewt, methinks that did it! Poured in an assortment of gems in varied stacks, and all were charge/swapped with one cast! I was wondering how to use the getitemcount command, and now I know. :P Will definitely credit you in the readme- thanks! Update: Link!
-
@ Hickory: No luck- it won't do anything if I put multiple gems in. :| @ David: Looks like it would work, tho I'll save it for a last-ditch fix in case I dun find anything that can do it in one cast. Still hunting for a way to make the script repeat itself immediately/each frame til done, or a way to get a count of each crystal type and swap that many instead of one at a time.

Personally, I've seen some ludicrously low prices when Steam has a sale. I got The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition for $7.49, and Lost Planet and Mirror's Edge were $20 each- same price as (or in some cases, less than) the store. And to top it off, the Orange Box comes with three games and two HL2 expansions for $30- I paid that much just for FO3:GOTY. That's not to mention all the low-buck indie games and free mods that are as awesome as anything one would find from big-name producers. (PS: Anyone with HL2 must play Nightmare House 2- best horror mod since Gates to Aesgaard) As for Black Ops, its a new game- everyone charges $60 state-side. It sucks, but that's life, not Steam.

Will debate ya on the Windows thing- while XP is and likely always will be somewhat of a PITA, my dad's new Win7 laptop has done very well in the months we've had it. Can't stand the overhyped, overpriced Apple gear, and have been biased against them since Macs gave me headaches in school. As for Linux, while I haven't learned how to run my game library thru Ubuntu, it saved one of my hard drives last year, so it still gets my respect. Anyway, back on topic, folks! @ OriginOfPain- 2: The only 'spam' I get is the window that pops up when I start Steam, and one box to close is hardly 'spam' in my book. Sometimes I actually find some decent sales, too. 3: Will give ya that one- would like a way to pick my own directories, especially with non-Valve games. 5: As far as I can tell, Steam itself isn't that big, taking up a mere sliver of HD space compared to the games themselves. 6: I've run Mass Effect with and without Steam, and noticed no performance issues either way, which leads me to believe it's hardly a source of performance issues for the (or at least my) average gaming rig.

I'm working on a soul gem charger, inspired by the device from the Shadowcrest Vineyard mod (which my computer hates, unfortunately- it's an awesome home). My charger is based on the operation of the vanilla altars used to create Black Soul Gems, but with a new location and a new script designed to fully charge any empty soul gem. http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6561/wellofsouls4.th.jpg So far, I've got it working, but it's rather crude. To test it, I put two of each soul gem in the container, fired a spell at it, then found that it had only converted one of each gem type. Another spell finished the job, but I'd like the script to replace all of the gems with just one cast spell, if possible. Here's the script so far- ScriptName DJZWellScript ;For charging soul gems via the well of souls. ref self Begin OnMagicEffectHit ;For every empty Soul Gem in the container, swap with appropriate charged gem. set self to GetSelf cast MGAnchoriteAltarSpell self if ( GetItemCount SoulGemEmpty5Grand > 0 ) removeitem SoulGemEmpty5Grand 1 additem SoulGem5Grand5GrandSoul 1 endif if ( GetItemCount SoulGemEmpty4Greater > 0 ) removeitem SoulGemEmpty4Greater 1 additem SoulGem4Greater4GreaterSoul 1 endif if ( GetItemCount SoulGemEmpty3Common > 0 ) removeitem SoulGemEmpty3Common 1 additem SoulGem3Common3CommonSoul 1 endif if ( GetItemCount SoulGemEmpty2Lesser > 0 ) removeitem SoulGemEmpty2Lesser 1 additem SoulGem2Lesser2LesserSoul 1 endif if ( GetItemCount SoulGemEmpty1Petty > 0 ) removeitem SoulGemEmpty1Petty 1 additem SoulGem1Petty1PettySoul 1 endif End As my thread descrip suggests, this is my first time working with Oblivion/FO3 scripting, so any help would be golden.

Agreed, I have a foot-high stack of PC game discs. Some of the older ones don't need discs, but some still do, and I hate digging thru that stuff. Dun need to do that with the Orange Box, tho. :P As for auto-updates, I haven't had any desire recently to NOT update my library. Aside from Garry's Mod, I haven't seen much third-party content screwed over by updates, but then I also only bought FO3 and Oblivion about a year in, so they were already patched-up GOTY Editions. One thing mentioned was install directories- this I can agree with. I have Steam (along with its library) installed on one partition of my main hard drive (which is getting a bit full), and a lot of big-@ss non-Steam games on my second partition, including the first Mass Effect. I'd like to get Mass Effect 2 Digital Deluxe Edition due to the extra stuff, but that wouldn't allow me to install it on the same HD partition as the prequel. So I may end up tracking it down in stores, cuz I sure as hell ain't DLing it from Gamestop- I tried that before with another game, the download was a nightmare. On that note, Walmart is fulla crap- they want $50, while GameStop and Steam are only asking $20. That $60 collector's edition looks awful juicy, tho...
-
What limits? Please do elaborate- one-liners don't really tell me much. @ RZ: I kinda agree with the 'requirement' bit, especially on non-Valve games. F:NV's case does seem a bit odd to me, but it makes me question the folks at Bethesda and Obsidian more than the folks at Valve. And since my experience so far with Steam has been good, it prbly affects how I look at the issue.
-
@ Ub3r True enough- in the past, if my computer's connection was down for whatever reason *cough*PARENTS*cough*, it made it a pain to install stuff like Mass Effect or Prince of Persia (SP-only, but with online activation). Steam and its various games can run offline, tho it's somewhat stubborn about it at times. I dun see why a CD key shouldn't suffice for store-bought copies, and I do disagree with Steam being required for NV (a non-Valve game, which is why I was a bit surprise as mentioned above). As for DRM/copy protection, it seems to me, the only people who hafta worry about it are the same people who inspired it- pirates. They're also why the game industry leans so hard towards consoles. My entire library is legit- I refuse to be part of the problem. @ Jim Indeed, no noticable performance hit- I use it with several non-Steam games for the overlay/browser. Keeps my desktop nice 'n clean, since I have 'em all in a menu. And I hopped on the HL2 bandwagon a bit late, so I didn't experience that particular debacle. Haven't had many issues at all, come to think, unless I forget my password. :| And I'da never found the indie awesomeness that is AudioSurf if it weren't for Steam.
