  1. Why not? They don't carry a disease or anything... bc you're more than doubling the current pricing of everything. I've made a post about my idea on how to get more people to give money to nexus. which includes getting rid of per month subscription system. (to which the only one that is worth anything is lifetime at $50 - which is reasonable already). My idea is to divide everything into perks , so ads, data speed, unlimited data speed, multiple downloads, ect. and then price then based on the current lifetime subscription ($50). and allow donations to nexus. this would allow people who don't want the full package. those who want to support just to support. and those who want all the perks to get what they want for whatever reason they want. increasing the cost not only slightly, but more than double would drive away many more people than those who would actually donate.
  2. This option wouldn't necessarily be bad as a one time payment. as currently most of those who have premium bought lifetime bc its the most worth while one. and most of those who pay for the month options are just choosing so to support nexus. nexus could always have a donation option for those who want to support just for the sake of supporting. and even more players were to buy $2 perma ad free option. it will still be better than say a % of those buying $2 for one month and then nothing else.
  3. Reply to StormWolf01 : Yes, there would be a huge issue if you were going off of the min purchase of $2 and then divide that into the packages. but you have to think that this is perma, not timed. So it would be more correct to divide the best choice (which would be the lifetime) and divide that into perks. and have the pricing based on the quality of the perk. so like $2 for ad free. $5 for multiple download (threads?) , 10$ for higher download speed. 20$ for unlimited download speed. of course this is just an example of how to divide the perks and the prices are all wrong, but hopefuly the idea is there
  4. the problem is only a very small % of people are actually premium / supported. think i saw something like under 5%. So this is just my suggestion on how to get more people to want / feel satisfied with a purchase. other than just to support. That is definitely something worth considering. There's a hitch that I can think of tho. US, the monthly premium fee is like.... $2.99 I think. Want to try to break that down into smaller packages, like say.... opening the bandwidth for a dollar. I haven't seen a locational breakdown for members, but I'm just gonna give a figure for those of us in the US. Say that 40% of us are in the US. Robin's bank, is in the UK. So, on top of the credit card transaction fee, there's also an international transaction fee (which I don't know how much their bank charges on that.) On top of that, if there's a 3rd party transaction fee from somebody like paypal for example. (paypal totally does not make it worth it, at all, to do an international payment!!!) Now lets also factor in how many other members are not in the UK. So it comes down to.... how low can they price the smaller packages, where it still doesn't amount up to the $2.99 monthly fee, but still not actually cost more to offer them, than they make, due to the transaction fees? I like the idea. I think that it has merit, and should be considered. I do. But, considering the low rate of subscribers, is it one that is cost effective? And how low can the prices be set, before it isn't cost effective? -/- Edit - wtf is wrong with quote / reply x.x
  5. Ok, so I'm not trying to argue with you, or take a bite outta your tail, or anything like that. In truth, from a consumer standpoint, I see where you're coming from. However, for the nexus to continue being here for us, we have to look at the business aspect of it too. Which is, that while when somebody pays for the lifetime membership.... That does help pay the bills for that particular week, but in the long run, it doesn't help out any further than that. The monthly plan, on the other hand, does help to have some income coming in on a monthly basis. (And no sarcasm intended with this) And we all know that we don't pay the light bill, or the employees only once a year. Again, I'm NOT trying to argue with you, or be a butthead to ya, Mixter. I really do see both points of view, and do understand where you're coming from. the problem is only a very small % of people are actually premium / supported. think i saw something like under 5%. So this is just my suggestion on how to get more people to want / feel satisfied with a purchase. other than just to support.
  6. ive made a post about this. but to me premium is only worth the lifetime membership. the rest just isn't worth it if you compare it to the others. so my suggestion is to go away from timed packages, and instead have the perks divided into indiviual buys or packages (all of the perks being what is now lifetime). This would allow people to pay for say just ad-free. unlimited data. ect. - this isn't to include those who just want to pay to support, this is for the "consumer" i guess the word would be
  7. The solution is simple. Pony up some bucks. I don't see why there needs to be any argument at all about what Nexus is doing, which is no different from a metric buttload of other sites do in order to gain subscription support. Keep in mind that such methods would not be used if they were not effective. Suggestions #1 and #3 were ways to improve the systems, not find a solution to em. as they aren't broken, but of course with anything, could be improved upon. Not everyone has the mind set of simply supporting the creator just bc they're using it. its the internet after all, thats why I made suggestion #1 to improve the current premium system that makes it comparitively worth to save up for lifetime or just buy lifetime outright. Suggestion #3 was more of, there's a reason so many people (not just free users) are complaining about the new system. altho there are a lot of rants about it, there are many ways to improve on it, and still keep it. Suggestion #2 was just a suggestion i think would be useful
  8. This also assumes there's an "elsewhere" to go to though. For pretty much all of the games here, there exist no other viable alternatives. The only exceptions being Skyrim SE and Fallout 4, which have large collections of stuff posted to Bethesda.net and represents one of the few viable alternatives out there for those 2 games. Anywhere else is going to run into the same issues with bandwidth costs and storage capacity and the need to have large sums of money available to pay for both. Unless of course you want to go back to having to track down mods on dozens of small sites with no guarantees they'll remain online because users feel entitled to drain them dry of their monthly bandwidth allotments. What exactly are they losing if customers who have never paid, use an ad blocker, and never intend on ever paying, pack up and go elsewhere? What's the actual threat there? when you say that none of the stuff on offer is created or owned by nexus, are you including the platform itself and vortex and previously nmm? or are you just skipping over them as it kinda derails your entire premise? also, when you say "making it harder" the 5 second delay and the one extra click can be removed very easily. its a matter of personal choice as to whether a user wants to do it or not, but the choice is there, which again, kinda makes your argument somewhat baseless. Before this goes on a more tangent. I would like to remind everybody that this isn't a thread to rant / reply to rant about current events / opinions around nexus. I would love to hear your opinions on my suggestions. Or better yet your own suggestions. but please do keep it civil and on topic
  9. I'm not sure how this plays into being an opinion / thought / critique on my post. I see nothing about suggestion 1-3 nor my thought at the end. But I would appreciate clarification on what you mean by tariffs unknown tariffs and clarification on ' offer up some calculations of your own tariffs' Understandable that Sacrifices will be made to keep a site running, and depending on what is sacrificed people will leave. people will stay. and then you'll have the extremist on either end. thats why I suggest no. 1 and 3. so that overrall its a better experience without sacrificing much of anything. It depends where you draw the line I suppose, which is I guess the reason why there's so many different opinions on the new download system clashing at the moment. Some people consider the old way 'essential' for a good experience on the nexus while others might consider it just 'cosmetic' as you say. Sure, people will buy premium simply to support the site, it's just that the recent up-tick in premium membership purchases is probably not a sudden outburst of goodwill by the people that just so coincides with the downgrade of the download system  But anyway, more options never hurt anybody, and I do hope the staff will think of offering perks independently, kinda like they do with the supporter option already. There are parts of the old way which are essential, suggestion 3 is a good example for this explanation. The month to month payment will add up more and more (which is fine if all you wanna do is donate) but to those that can't afford the full payment. it may become a i'll just get 1 month for the months im using it. but with my suggestion. you wouldn't be restricted to time based subscription, you would buy packages or perks. to which would then last forever. ie you can buy ad-free (as some people thats all they want) some could buy unlimited bit-rate. some could buy the supporter role which is what it is now. and some could buy premium role, which would be what it is now.
  10. But the thing is that, at least currently, you can trace back that way of thinking about the premium service directly to recent changes to the download system. No matter how you want to cut it, it's a downgrade for the free user. So the mentality of a new premium buyer might change from "I want to support the Nexus" to "I want to get rid of this problem, so I'll pay for the fix". So for someone who never had premium before, it does become payment for services instead of willingness to support the site. And since the Nexus are the ones who made the changes happen in the first place, it seems they endorse that way of thinking about the user-site relationship. Not saying there's anything wrong with that actually, the nexus staff needs to eat too and servers cost money, but it's understandable why someone would be discontent when you take away a convenience that was free before. I'm sure many people would pay a bit of money just to have the old download system back and nothing else. Splitting the premium perks up into chunks you can buy individually might make this more digestible for unsatisfied users. I agree with you to a point. I do believe my 1st 3rd suggestion would be a good solution to their premium issue. but this is all quality of life stuff. I view it as equal to cosmetics (except the data limit). and people will buy things just to support nexus. some will be more towards a consumer pov to where they compare the best quality to the price and see if its worth it.
  11. You mean something like this? Lifetime is clearly the cheapest in the long run, it starts out at 20 cents a day for the first year, drops to 10 cents a day the 2nd year. 6 cents a day the 3rd year and so on. the problem with that. is the only one worth its money when compared to each other, is the lifetime. thats why i suggested to divide it into perks (with what is now lifetime , being all the perks) and not per month.
  12. Could you clarify payment for services rendered. i don't hear that often enough to understand its context. - as for the rest. I do see it as the main idea of supporting nexus. thats why I suggested no.1 - instead of per month (which imo isn't worth it) divide the perks into packages.
  13. I disagree it's in poor taste. Bandwidth is expensive, and they're not being intrusive with their premium ads. The "slow" download speeds have never bothered me. A couple extra seconds/minutes, big deal. I don't believe anyone's time is so precious they can't wait a couple of minutes, sometimes just a few extra seconds, to download a mod. The site is free to use, for everyone. It's free to download a mod, and the mods are available for everyone. Nexus offers a service which they offer for free. Period. No mods or services are locked behind a pay-wall. What you get for paying is some quality-of-life improvements imo, like faster download speed, no ads etc. as well as feeling good about supporting a service that you use. For example: I use discord everyday, and a few months ago I bought nitro. Not because I have the money to spend, I mean I did, but you could make the argument it was better spent elsewhere. But I did it because it feels good to support a service/platform that you use everyday for free. And that should be the main reason for buying premium here: Because you like the services offered. You can have criticisms obviously, but I don't think there are that many here. The mindset "pay for it or deal with it" is one I hold in terms of this topic. The service is free, and the service isn't horrible if you decide not to pay, it'll just take a couple of more minutes. I think I steered that phrase into the wrong direction. I meant in terms of the people ive seen through the thread saying people shouldn't complain or criticize nexus for the added annoyance of the 2-3 extra steps to download a single mod. - Altho there are many ways to improve the act of donating or buying premium. more than I myself can think of. I do not believe pushing annoyances onto the user (even those who are supporter roles) is good. - I plan to buy lifetime premium if I ever get money that I don't have to spend on other things. - I don't see the actual benefit of buying anything less. - - But saying this my statement was more of, I don't get why people are in the mind set of , deal with all decisions nexus makes bc its free. or buy out of it.
  14. Firstly I should start with how long I've been here. I'd say almost 2 years now, at first it was on occasion that my friend would show a neat mod for whatever game he is playing on. Last year i made an actual account as we started to use more mods. and now this year, I would say that I would count this year as actually being active. My thoughts and suggestions might be incomplete. but they are my current thoughts nonetheless. 1. per month or otherwise non permanent premium is very 'meh' to me, If you want the benefits of premium its more worth it to get the lifetime, even if you might only use it a few times through the years. - My suggestion would be to instead of per month, you divide the benefits you get from premium and put it into separate packages or individually, or both. this would allow users to choose what they want. 2. Make a system in place that's kinda like the following and download tab, but that you can fully manage (like how you can manage installation load order on mod managers) - For example, You have a page that allows you to drag or otherwise sort the mods you want / are watching into separate categories, or just personal preference. 3. this is my meh suggestion, but please do something about the downloads tab. I don't mind the 5s timer, or going to another page. but both is annoying. - With this I mean, I don't want to click download, go to another page to click another button, and wait 5s. - I wouldn't mind if I clicked download and a 5 or even 10 second timer counted down and downloaded your item. - I wouldn't mind if I clicked download and it sent me to a confirmation page or pop-out. My final thought, but not a suggestion so its not numbered. - The mentality some have of 'pay for it or deal with it' is in poor taste at best. I understand (and correct me if i misunderstand some) but just bc something is free. doesn't mean all annoyances should happen without complaint just bc you can get rid of it with money. I'd be happy to hear other people's opinion on my thoughts. even the last one.
  15. The way i did it was go to the search bar. search with nothing in it (so it searches all) and then use the filter
  16. what if you had the idea of it. but the code / design is completely different? would the idea itself be acceptable to use / use in bad faith / shouldn't be used at all. -edit - I add on to this convo bc my thinking is. at some point, all the main ideas will be taken, and If you're not allowed to use said ideas (not the code or actual work) then at some point in the future, no one will be able to do anything
  17. I have a quick question about the ad revenue. does the add just need to be loaded for them to get money from it? bc that could easily be hidden via css, and still be loaded coudn't it?
  18. Ello, I was wondering if there are any full mod list. or pre made packs available. Ive found a few mod list. but they don't explain anything like what patches they use, dependencies, options that might not just be personal pref. and what the intended "patch" things with things like SSEEdit, Dyndolod, TexGen, and BodySlide. For example, lets say the mod list has a grass mod. terrain mod. and foliage mod. idk which of what parts should overwrite / be overwritten. as it could be personal choice or to have it be compatible with each other. Ik that the most simplest answer to this would be. just take your time and install mods one at a time. but my prob with that is as you add more and more mods. you then have increasingly more difficult time making sure everything is right with every single mod. TLDR - I would like a mod list or pre made pack that either has the sseedit/dyndolod/texgen/bodyslide either explained in depth what they did, or as a file i can just include. - - If not possible / an issue could happen, then i'll just have to go the slow route
  19. So, to add to your woes, you've chosen to cap your download speed to 1 MB/s? Sounds like a plan. I couldn't tell if that was sarcasm or not. but you missed this part of LucidLday's reply. Also should be mentioned that the data limit isn't really an issue
  20. Reading this thread. It would seem those who defend this are defending the download speed cap. which isn't the problem nor has it been. its the it went from click manual or modloader download. and it would download, at either the limited speed or the uncapped speed. now its click manual or modloader downloader. wait for new page to load. click either slow or premium dodwnload. wait 5 seconds + whatever time it takes to load the 5 sec countdown. and Then it downloads or otherwise click another link that starts the download. - I could be mistaken, but that seems to be the problem to me
