Persistent CTD at the exact same spot
Nidhoeggr replied to CaptainPatch's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Hi there! Just read you are doing a full reinstall of Skyrim and thought i recommend the use of the pretty handy tool Mod Organizer. I use it for 4-5 weeks now and it made troubleshooting for me much easier since you can see which mod files are overwritten by what mod etc. Essentially it keeps your installed mods seperate from your skyrim folder and redirects everything (who cares how it works, it does at least for me  ). So you can easily uninstall a mod and all files with one click and be sure that no leftover scriptfiles are inside your skyrim-data folder. That way you can keep your skyrimfolder clean. Only downside i found is that it can't track the version of a mod quite as good as NMM. Which is the only reason why i do have NMM still installed. Of course it's not quite as easy to handle like NMM, so here is a video tutorial. Feel free to ask, if anything is unclear about how to use it. Edit: ah crap, Ripple was faster  better you follow the guide then my instructions ;D Nidhoeggr. PS.: Apologies, if anything of this is common knowledge to you, just read the last post ^^ -
quick update i just finished my testrun, everything from helgen till whiterun went just fine until i left dragonsreach, loadingscreen finishes loading, screen stays black, sound still playing. Luckily i was able to load the autosave (outside dragonsreach) without any hassle. I still have a firmware update for my ssd at hand, but i need to do a backup first until i risk such an update. As for modded doors, well i only have Perfect Whiterun and two player homes (Halls of Dovahndor and Riverside Shack). Apart from that i don't know what could possibly edit cells that heavily except for SMIM and Enhanced Light FX maybe. But as mentioned earlier, those freezes apeared pretty random in my opinion, entering interior as well as exterior areas. It just doesn't seem to matter where i go. But i think im pretty near to my goal. I CAN load every savegame after i got rid of the "no stretching" mod and updating my drivers. As for the recent freeze, i guess i still have to drop some script heavy mods. (some wetupdate errors showed up in the papyrus log again) To everyone who helped me out: Thank you very much!!! I think i got it covered from here. Still need further testing (companions, werewolves, vampires, dragons, horses not tested yet) but it runs much smoother now. Thanks to you all, pointing me in the right directions! Cheers!!! PS.: hopefully it stays that way once i can use ENB again!

I just installed all new drivers i could find and updated my bios. Yes my ssd runs in AHCI mode. Not really sure what you mean with boot header. :S Couldn't find something similiar in the manual. I guess you don't refer to the MBR-entry. I'm german btw. ^^ Going to start a new testrun, let's see if anything has changed.

And there it goes, :ohdear: reseted my ini files, added only some entries like decal-limit for EBT, and some aiming adjustments. Started a fresh game: Helgen -> Riverwood (a bit more wandering around then usual) -> entering Embershard Mine -> CTD. I realized i had forgotten the Archive entries for the HighRes-packs. After adding them i could load my savegame in Riverwood just fine. This doesn't mean that the entries had anything to do with the CTD. Rushed through Embershard Mine -> Bleak Falls Barrow, while exiting: Loading screen comes up and freezes, lol. I believe it does have something to do with either of those mods: Wet & Cold, Climates of Tamriel and/or Frostfall. Just a rough guess that the scripts somehow choke the game when changing from interior to exterior and the weatherscripts kick in. To be honest that are three of my most highly valued mods i really want to keep next to SkyRe. Any ideas?! Thanks in advance. Papyrus Log http://pastebin.com/as1xvsB4 current Load Order: PS.: Out of pure curiosity, anybody knows what this papyrus entry is about? Info: *Achievement 47 awarded - a winnar is you!* Always get that when leaving Bleak Falls Barrow.

Sorry for answering that late, i did uninstall the "no stretching" - mod. I believe to recognize a slight improvement (maybe really a mesh problem with SMIM as mentioned by lindenlaurel), but i don't want to jump to any conclussions so soon. I already dropped skyrim HD before, couldn't see/feel any difference, but for further testing i may leave that disabled. Yes, those "hang-ups" appear pretty random. I mostly start a completely new game, then it goes Riverwood -> "Embershard Mine"??? -> Bleak Falls Barrow -> Whiterun. Most of the time it starts hanging when i enter Bleak Falls Barrow or leaving it. If somehow i manage to get a savegame loaded after this error, i get stuck again somewhere in Whiterun, entering Whiterun itself or Dragonsreach. Besides that i am completely unable to load any savegame of mine (didn't try the workaround: load earlier savegame, then load the "real" savegame, since it doesn't solve the problem). On a sidenote i never ever use quicksaves! As for the HighResTextures-packs, i know that they still are active, since i added those lines in the ini myself. Just read somewhere that the esp files can safely be disabled to free up some space on the plugincounter, besides to not being needed in the load order after the ini-tweak. I know that papyrus logs aren't error-logs. As for the missing files, i really don't know where that is coming from. Some entries clearly can be identified as compatibility queries (eg. Convenient Horses searching for some Follower-mods i don't have). My rough guess? Since i use two major overhauls for vampires and werewolves alongside to UFO and the unofficial patches with an customrace the scriptfiles are overwritten. Maybe that leads to some of the missing files since they are not used by the overwriting mods or whatever. But as i have read from each moddescription this "should" be just fine. Last but not least, i use Mod Organizer instead of NMM for at least three weeks now. I can't tell how MO handles the script files which are generated ingame. Are they deleted after i stopped Skyrim or is it not possible to create them in the first place, i dont know. Furthermore since the mods are separated in a "non-standard" folderstructure maybe they just can't "see" each other. I am going to reset my ini files and put only the really needed changes in them and start a fresh game. *fingers crossed* Thanks for all your help!!! I really appreciate it, seriously, it's just an amazing feeling to *hopefully* get things stable with your help!!!

Ah, don't worry about being a noob, everybody starts somewhere. I mean ... look at me, i've been trying to get this game running since release. (got 850+ hours on my account and only one playthrough >.< ) I always tried to find the error in some scripts or general mod incompatibilities. Maybe it's just a simple mesh-conflict/whatever. ^^
-
Could you specify that a little more? Did you find out what exactly was the problem with SMIM? I read in some other threads, that a texture/mesh conflict could lead to a CTD/freeze. Thanks in advance!

A quick update, unfortunately, further tweaking my skyrim ini's didn't solve anything. I was able to load a earlier savegame near whiterun. I traveled on to whiterun, took part in the fight companions vs. giant and entered Whiterun. Did some crafting, obtained a few quests (mikael brawl), fetching the argonian ale. But as soon as i entered Dragonsreach i got stuck in the loading screen again. Here is a Skyrim performance shot from that session. And the matching papyrus log: So if i understand this right, it "shouldn't" be a performance issue. At least a little something :D

Thanks for the quick reply! I will see what i can snatch from those settings. But to be honest, tinkering too much with the ini-files is probably just as bad as having a sh**load of mods. :D

Hi there dear Nexus-Community, yes, this another of those "my game freezes, please help with my mod-setup"-threads. :P I've been trying to get things to work since i had finished my first vanilla playthrough (back in early 2012  ). I consider myself fairly experienced when it comes to mod troubleshooting but somehow i am trying to hard or am simply to blind to see some kind of incompatibility. I stick to the common sense mod install routine: - sorting load order with BOSS - cleaning mods with TES5edit - creating Bashed Patch with Wrye Bash - using Reproccer for SkyRe I always start a complete new game when i installed a major new mod. Already tried to start a new game and install mods one after another, but somehow i'm still unable to get things stable. Until my recent gfx card upgrade (780 gtx) i did use ENB's but due to the driver problem i dropped it, until nvidia delivers a compatible version. So here are the necessities: Skyrim.ini Skyrimpref.ini Loadorder: Mod Organizer - Install Order (first entry is loaded last, except files in the overwrite folder) most recent Papyrus logfile (loading a savegame in Whiterun) My Rig: My guess is an overload or conflict with scripts, maybe a problem with my custom race (chaosbarbarian.esp - selfmade). But i also tried a vanilla race without any custom race still same effect. I appreciate every kind of help i can get!! If anything is unclear just ask

Small chance of success, (finally, after 2+ months I removed my Timescale mod and it looks that it has done the trick. I need to test this a little more. I guess this somehow caused problems with the climates mod and/or deadly dragons spawnsystem, of course i do have no hard evidence on that. I just remember the Fallout mods which very often had problems with a modified timescale. I just hate to see the sun and moon running past in merely a few minutes ... so "stupid". :wallbash: Again my current loadorder: edit: ok ... everything still bugged, i CTD every now and then with no reason (atleast i can't find any). Guess i just play Diablo or GW2. Im so disappointed from that system ... just not worth the time anymore. -.-

Oh my ... please, forgive me my ignorance! Didn't know that you are part of the team who made that awesome ENB! D: Concerning my problem, well i think i made progress. After removing some mods and another complete reinstall, without SoS, the game isn't freezing anymore. Instead i CTD now ;) ... probably due to a faulty installation of some armormods on my end. *sigh* back to start i guess :) Active Mod Files:

Hi Staind716 and thanks for your fast reply! I allways start a completely new game, so there are probably no leftover scripts running if it's that what you are implying. My savegames are currently 5,5MB big, growing around 100KB each 5min autosave. That covers a playtime of 2 -3 hours. Killing the first dragon and going on from there, that is most likely the time when the game starts failing. I play mostly about an hour, save, take a quick coffee/smoke break and load again. I've deinstalled the sounds mod via NMM, so i've got no idea if there are still files left from that mod. Will look this afternoon and remove any files i find manually. Yeah, i love that ENB, great natural colours and all the effects i like, looks really great. :D

Greetings! If this Topic isn't here in the right place i apologize and kindly ask to put it where it belongs. :) First of all, english isn't my mother tongue, so please ask if something isn't described clear enough. I've been playing skyrim since it was released. Pretty quick i installed the first mods i found interesting. From there, it just went on. Now my game is pretty heavily modded and im not that good at troubleshooting. But i read the description of the mods quite carefully, or better said i looked first if there is any known issue with some mods i might already use. Well, i wanted to start playing again and my game just freezes every now and then. Mostly in fights when i hit the enemy or i'm hit. The game just stops reacting and the music keeps playing in the background. This comes rather quickly after 5min or 30 - 45min. I don't think its related to a special location or special weapon or something similiar. I use Warzones as you can see below, but it doesn't seem important if i fight 1 or 50 npcs. If i remember right, the game froze even then when i was just wandering the plains west of Whiterun. I deactivated all mods and activated them one by one (of course without mods it ran smoothly for about 2 hours), started a completly new game, i even reinstalled my entire game with all mods, deleted mods which aren't that important to me. Furthermore, i'm using the Countervibe ENB with the recommended settings on a stable fps-Rate of 40+, even in effect heavy situations at maxed details and so on, i only decreased the visual range of actor lightning and details a little to not stress the system too much. I've updated SKSE, every important driver, directx etc. to their latest version so probably no flaw in that direction. I only tweaked the skyrim INIs a little to hit targets at greater distances. I allways run BOSS first and look at the loadorder in Wrye Bash (standalone-version) and tweak it only a little to some recommendations i find in the concerned mod description. After that i just use the "rebuild patch" function on the Bashed Patch and start my game via NMM. Don't know if there is anything else i could do at that point?! Neither of all this did work. And now, ... im running out of options. :( That's why im asking for a little help. I recognized an increase in stability, after removing the "sounds of skyrim" mod. Did that after BOSS told me it would cause some issues. My guess is, that there is some scripting issue during the fights or something similar. Or it's a simple load order problem that i'm just too stupid to see. Sorry for that repetitive writing but i'm to frustrated right no to give much thought on grammar. :/ If more information is needed feel free to ask. Any helpful advice is much appreciated! kind regards, Nidhoeggr.
