  1. Quick question here, like many others my carefully balanced house of mods was smashed by the creation club hurricane. That'll teach me not to backup everything and run the game offline. (Fun fact, setting the steam game to "Update only when I play" now means when the Skse version is run. Fun. So, now I need to pick through the pieces and pray the horror stories of save files vanishing does not happen to me. However, slight problem, the game crashes 2-4 second after using the skse launcher. Black screen, then back to desktop. I've used the Vortex mod update search to find which mods have updates and updated them, but the crashes still continue. Being new to Vortex, having moved from Nexus mod manager, I was wondering what I could do to see what mods are crashing my game. Thank you.
  2. I have also run into this problem.I load up the new Skse (either through vortex or the folder directly), get two seconds of black screen, then it's back to the desktop. I originally wondered if the popup that said Racemenu was out of date was to blame, but even shutting that off did not help. Hoping somebody knows the fix soon.
  3. Huh, and here I thought I needed to start through NMM. Good to know, thank you. Might try Vortex as well, see how that goes. Thanks again.
  4. After seeing more skyrim vr info floating around, I decided to scratch that old itch with some skyrim special edition. Since my old skyrim game is buried under a gorgon knot of mods, I decided to take things slow and start without mods, get to the golden claw in the first town, make that a clean save, then install mods bit by bit until I was sure everything would work. That was the plan...which was thrown out the window when the sodding game crashes to desktop as I'm getting out of the caves from under Helgen! I was expecting mod trouble, but evidently my skills have degraded to the point where an unmodded game will crash on my. And without fail, as well! Trying to get back into the game will crash it half the time, and even when I get into the main menu, loading the save before I leave the game causes it to crash as well. So, thinking it might be how I'm using nexus mod manager wrong, I tell my program to stop using skse as a custom start, and start with the normal launcher. It comes up, I hit play, the screen flickers, then... nothing. No load at all, or a crash to desktop so fast that can barely register it. After that, I try running skse directly, not using NMM. Works like a charm, get into town and make my clean save. Now comes the trouble, since I'm 95% sure this setup won't work when I start installing mods. Clearly NMM is having trouble connect to skyrim skse, but I've told it the location several times, and it still is having trouble. Any idea how to get NMM to find the SKSE file easily?
  5. Ello all, quick question about some of these mods, and how they might be effecting my companions. Just reinstalled and started up a new game, ready to try out some new mods (Sim settlement looks amazing!) when I started running into a few problems. Keep in mind that I'm only a few hours into this playthrough, but I'd like to nip this in the bud before I get too invested. Problem 1) Character after an hour of recruitment stop participating in fights. I...think dogmeat didn't have this problem, but it might be because I opted him out fairly quickly. Both Cogsworth and preston both started off gung-ho, but quickly became pacifist pack mules after about an hour. Even when under attack they don't fight back, just keep trying to walk around to stand next to me. Having a pack mule is nice, but I'd prefer someone who can fight. Problem 2) A much bigger problem, affinity and affinity conversations seem messed up. I'm getting random musts of +3 or so affinity at random intervals (fighting, looting, exploring, etc) for things that I'm pretty sure Cogsworth wasn't all that excited about. This wouldn't be a problem except that he's sailed past 250 affinity and refuses to hold a dialog with me. I know, I know, the conversation triggers can be a while, but he's nearing 500 and still doesn't talk, even after talking to NPCs and saying things that get a mid-conversation line from him. Between the two of these, I'm starting to worry that my companions will never go through their story acrs, and will never fight for me, a rather immersive breaking problem. Mods that might be messing with me: Don't have many mods that effect companions, but I've narrowed it down to a few. Visible Companion affinity might, might be the guilty party, but I didn't think it altered the character any, just told me what was going on in their head. Everyone's Best Friend seems the likely culprate, but I haven't seen any notes on that file indicating this might be a problem. I'm trying a playthough with EBF unselected (but not uninstalled), and the problem still pops up. If anyone knows a solution, or if this problem is common and has a regular solution, I would love to hear it. Thanks in advance.
  6. As I am unable to message him directly, I feel the need to ask if anyone has heard more about this, or if we will be playing a more vanilla version for the foreseeable future? EDIT: aaaand having spent ten minutes searching around, I found his reddit post where he announced that he quit. My mistake.
  7. Not sure if this mod has been created or not, but when one is actively trying to complete radiant quests, it's annoying as heck to see the arrow point off the map. This happened in Skyrim as well, where quests would point you to a island in the middle of nowhere when you were still trying to figure out how to shout loudly. Anyone know if there's a mod that keeps problems local in Fallout 4?
  8. There are quite a few mods out there to take away the large amount of damage it takes to kill some enemies... ...are there any mods to put it back? I'm currently loving almost everything about survival mode, except the damage. Enemies die in a stiff breeze, and if I'm not wearing power armor I seem to be made of glass, one shot and I shatter. Even in power armor, anything above a pipe pistol will take me out in a few shots. Then, of course, there are the moltovs of death... In short, I want to keep Survival Mode, but push the damage to Very Hard, where armor was worth something and it was worth puting points into damage perks. Any ideas?
  9. While I love almost everything in survival mode, the damage is the one thing I want to change.Whether it's killing a deathclaw with nine shots of my 10mm, or getting one shot while in my X1 MKVI armor by a Institute turret, I would like to change how the damage is handled. Is there any way to edit the settings and change it to the meat shield settings of Very Hard? Either mod, console command, ini editing, or slapping the keyboard madly with the GECK, I would be happy for any solution.
  10. First off, thanks for the info on MO using it's own ini, that explains a lot about earlier problems. Second, I'd like to jump on the "I have a similar problem" bandwagon. I've recently uninstalled skyrim, wiped all the old info, and started again. The problem is when I start Skyrim via MO, a strange pale blue border is on every edge of the screen. Aside from distracting as heck, it also prevents me from using task manager to shut it down when it crashes, as it goes right back to the screen when I try. my .ini files are saying the same thing as the steam launcher (1360 x 760, full screen = 1), so I have no clue how to fix this.
  11. Got a small problem when it comes to loading mods. New computer, new instillation, but this batch has not been kind. When I try a load order in Loot, MO doesn't see it. When I try to load mod orders in MO, it doesn't take. (Also, running the game from MO forces the game into window mode for some reason.) Loading up the steam launcher and using the Data Files in that has been the only way I can get the game to run, and it shows a different load order than the others. I'm currently using the desktop launcher of SKSE to play, but I'd love to get this game in order. If push comes to shove, I can load the order manually by looking back and forth between the steam and loot versions and manually adjusting, but I was hoping that this was a common problem and had a simple solution. Many thanks.
  12. Just a minor question for a minor problem. Recently restarting Skyrim, and it had a few problems that I fixed by uninstalling and re-installing the game. Problem is, Nexus Mod Manager still insists all the old mods are installed. I've been going through one by one and 'uninstalling' them, but this takes a while and NMM is prone to crashing. I tried uninstalling and re-installing NMM, only to still see a sea of green check marks when I started it up. Is there a way to make it realize that these mods are not in fact installed? I am fairly sure that these fake check marks wouldn't stop me from re-installing the mods, but I do like to know what really is installed and what is not. Thanks in advance.
  13. Oh windows, how you continue to frustrate me. Got a new computer, trying to install a new Skyrim mod set. Briefly tried Skyrim: The Journey before deciding that there were aspects to that I did not like, so burned everything and started fresh. Aside from some errors that came about when Apachii hair and Unofficial patches updated (some of the older mods were less than happy), everything looked fine and dandy. Until I tried to organize with loot, and suddenly I get "Error code 1: Libloaorder failed to set the load order. "C"\user\me\Appdata\Local\Skyrim\Loadorder.txt" cannot be written to. Details: Failed opening file: Access is denied. :iostream stream error." Huh, well that was strange. Still, looks like the load order is intact, so I mozey over to mod organizer and Nope! Mods out of order. Hokay, it has its own sort function, I click on it once, seems good (Although some details are off), so I try to launch from MO and... "Failed to spawn "ModOrganizer": failed to start process (Access is denied. [5])" ...somehow I doubt this will lead to sunshine and happiness, but I try to manually load off the desktop SKSE icon. Naturally, it crashes after the bethesda logo. From what I've managed to see on the web, from these and my TES5edit problems, windows 8 is activity blocking me, which is strange since I ran the mod pack earlier with no problems, but I never sorted anything there. Anyhoo, any idea how to fix this? Either by allowing access or sneaking around the problem, I'm good with both. Just want to play Skyrim without going through another five hours of instillation...*sob* EDIT: Welp, fixed the problem with MO, it was an unrelated problem dealing with finding where SKSE was. Now all I need to worry about is a bad load order I cannot use LOOT on. Oh, and it seems stuck in windows mode for some reason, but I imagine that's a seperate problem.
  14. Sounds good, thank you very much! And yeah, way too many mods. I wonder if there's a support group out there for that...
  15. ...you may have many mods, but never the one that's causing problems. While many people have posted the problems they have, only to have so many mods that it is impossible to determine, sometimes when posted the answer is so simple that it is obvious to everyone but the uploader. I'm hoping I have the later problem. My problem is twofold. One, the game sometimes freezes in combat, the enemy frozen on screen until I restart. Problematic, but not a game breaker. Sometimes, however, when traveling to/through a city the game crashes, and the save files in that town are unusable. This is what I'm hoping to fix. I'll post my mod list for giggles, and if there are any obvious, easily solvable problems, please let me know. I'm not sure if it's a script or graphics problem, but given that the crashes happen to movement, I'm betting script. I have several mods that effect physics, and several that effect combat. There's no compatability problem, but does all of them working together cause a memory problem, I wonder? Anyhoo, any advice would be welcome.
