Site design update, file backgrounds and hot file cropping
Farlo replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
I noticed that when you endorse a mod, the number of endorsements changes to "NaN" until you refresh the page. Not sure if it's something with the new UI but I thought I'd point it out anyways. -
NMM version 0.44 released, new file servers and site updates
Farlo replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
In response to post #7505960. #7505975, #7506011 are all replies on the same post. I'm pretty sure he's not actually posting it twice. I think this has something to do with the backend of these posts and comments being tied to the forums. If I'm not mistaken this page pulls the thread information and throws a new skin on it using the first post as the actual article text. -
Blog piece: Ads, Supporters, Endorsements and Bandwidth Throttling
Farlo replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
Alright Dark0ne, you've convinced me. I totally forgot that this site does run almost entirely on ad revenue. I'll be allowing every kind of ad you can throw at me if it keeps this place afloat, and I'll make a Supporter donation as well. That Wikipedia-esque "If everyone who used this site..." is pretty powerful, and I encourage everyone else to help make that a possibility. -
Skyrim has been sketchy all day today as well.

Looks like the Skyrim server is down (or severely crippled) as well.

Who's a winner? This guy!

Yeah, so I've learned recently. I switched over to an AMD card when they were the only ones with GDDR5 and I've noticed many more issues than before. Oh well, thanks a lot for your help!

Yes, I did try validating them, but then I found out it happened in all of my other games as well, so I used DriverSweeper and rolled back from the 12.1a Preview drivers to the official 11.12 drivers, and that seems to have fixed it. I wish I did remember the error code, but I was too stupid to screencap it. With 8GB of RAM the Virtual Memory page says I have 8175MB allocated, is that enough?

I'm starting to get pissed at this game, this is the 4th time it's completely wrecked itself. I was playing merrily and at a loading screen it was taking longer than usual (past a minute moving into a shop), then I got this weird "virtual memory" popup error and CTD. Now whenever I boot up the game (even to the main menu), all the textures are loaded as if they've been set to low. So I rebooted, logged into my admin account, killed all my startup programs and whatnot, deleted the INIs, and disabled all my mods through MO; at this point it's essentially a Vanilla copy of the game. I let the launcher auto-detect me to Ultra, ran the game, but I'm still having the same issue. Any ideas? Core i5 2500k @ 3.6Ghz 8GB DDR3 RAM @ 1600Mhz AMD Radeon 6870 DirectCU @ 950/1150Mhz EDIT: Apparently Skyrim didn't just kill itself, it took all my games with it. Battlefield 3, Guild Wars, Batman, and Metro 2033 all have the same issue.

If only I could change title screen like this...
Farlo replied to TheBlan's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
There are already image replacements, and the rest of the UI seems pretty changeable, even at this stage (e.g. SkyUI and QD Inventory), so like PR4Y said, just wait for the CK, there's going to be a bonanza when it hits. I can't believe they're holding the modding community back this long so they can get Steamworks integrated and kill the Nexus (unless they genuinely haven't finished it yet). -
Landscape textures don't blend and change randomly
Farlo replied to Farlo's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Alright, so I decided to just reinstall the game and now I'm having a different issue... When I first load a save I'll have ~15 FPS, but then if I Alt-Tab out and back in, the FPS jumps to 40+. It doesn't work every time, but if I restart the game a couple of times, eventually Alt-Tabbing will bring my FPS back up. Edit: Also, sometimes the game will "load forever" unless I Ctrl+Alt+Del out of the game, but after a few seconds it comes back up to the loaded game with low FPS. -

I disabled UAC and stole my drive back from TrustedInstaller as soon as I installed Win7, so I doubt any file ownership issues caused it, but I'll check to make sure I still own the Steam folder. I haven't edited my .ini's in the last few days, but I'll be sure to give that a shot too. Thanks for the suggestions and I'll report back when I've tested them at home :wallbash: -
Landscape textures don't blend and change randomly
Farlo replied to Farlo's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
It's definitely not a problem with the vanilla game since they haven't been like this until now, it must have happened some time last night as I was putting in new textures. I honestly have no idea what mods are currently active since they're all just texture files and I've been overlapping some, which may be one of my major problems. Aside from the various "HD-this-and-that" textures, I only have the 4GB Enabler, FXAA Injector, and ENBSeries mods installed, but I didn't think any of these would cause the problem since they just affect the post-processing (I think). I've tried running the game after removing (renaming) the Textures and Interface folders as well as the DLLs used by the various mods, but it still happens. If worst comes to worst, I guess I'll have to start organizing my mods folders and checking everything I install (like I should already), oh well. -
Even without a modded Textures folder most of the ground and building textures (haven't seen it on items yet) have very sharp edges and won't blend properly. For instance, hedges on walls are a solid hedge texture in a blocky shape on top of the wall texture. The same happens on the ground, the edges of pathways that are supposed to look less traveled on have very distinct and sharp edges with the actual pavement of the path. Before I go and reinstall the game and mods completely I was hoping there might be a simpler answer, so here I am . I'd post some example screenshots, but I'm currently on my cellphone, however if they're really needed I can in a couple hours. Thanks in advanced!

I'm not sure if Skyrim has it or if it's different, but I know Oblivion had a console command to show that kind of info, try Googling around for it. If not, the free Fraps is fairly lightweight if you're just using the FPS counter. You should check out CPUID, they have a few apps that might help you pinpoint why you're lagging so badly. Check your GPU, CPU and RAM usage along with the temperatures around your system, maybe one of them isn't working properly or throttling back from heat. If it's not a hardware issue, try a defrag, reinstalling the game, or maybe even a clean sweep of your graphics drivers back to the latest stable version.

Dude, I seriously hope so... According to a couple articles I read, all the hearings consisted of bashing the Google reps. that were there and calling them piracy advocates.

I didn't know we had a debate forum :woot:

If you don't know, Congress here in the US is holding talks over SOPA, a bill introduced that gives the government and private corporations, particularly the entertainment industry, the right to regulate the internet and sue anyone who may even possibly have any material that is copywritten. Obviously this has huge implications for the entire internet, even outside the US, and threatens the current internet platform, which will not only have a massive impact on the online economy, but also eliminate the internet as an international free-speech communication technology. A huge movement has sprung up in opposition of this bill and has gotten support from millions of people, Mozilla, Google, Microsoft, Tumblr, 4chan, and many others including numerous representatives in both parties. A lot more information can be found at AmericanCensorship.org, including a "Censor" bar logo for websites to show opposition in the bill and spread the word. The Nexus is obviously a very large website with millions of users from around the world, and stepping up against censorship in such a public way can help gain a lot of support and (hopefully) get a lot more people interested. In short: don't sit idly by as this bill is still may pass, it's time to make your voice heard! Thank you very much for reading and I hope the Nexus staff will stand up and show their support.

I've had quite a few experiences hunting an amulet or gem I Shouted across the room, it does suck. I completely agree, they really did under perform with the UI, it feels like it was made by a committee, not gamers. I can't imagine having to use it without that Day 1 update. :wallbash:

WOW...giants...they're stronger than dragons.
Farlo replied to Goliath978's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
What's odd is that I've actually seen a dragon and a giant battle it out and the giant won without losing more than half it's health. It is kind of weird since the world lore claims they're so powerful, but I guess this is just another sacrifice realism has to make for the sake of game play. Also, given that the dragon in the intro pretty much wreaks Helgen, I think they're a lot more powerful in the lore than the game is able to show us for technical reasons. -
I hope you mean UI, but I agree, it's easily the only major problem I have with the game. I can't wait to see what happens with UI mods, especially with the new Flash elements.
-
Yeah seriously... It really sucks. Skyrim would probably look A LOT better if Bethesda developed it separately from the the consoles. I know this is a vast over-simplification of game making, but I wish the developers would design the game using the most powerful platform (PC always) so it looks the best it can, and then downscale it to work on the less powerful consoles.

Having R as the default for storing is the issue. I'd much rather have it be left-click when I'm using the container.
