  1. Hey your guide up there is awesome but I've run into a problem. Ive done everything you said but the part of the armor that had the HDT doesnt appear in game. and when i open it in nifskope it looks totally wonky, like stretched out and vertical and just wrong. im pretty sure i did everything you said correctly and i dont know what went wrong
  2. I am having the same issue. That makes sense. If i simply uninstall the mod would that fix the problem or would it continue since i have already made changes to the cell? EDIT: I found a work around. without having to get rid of any of the mods or change anything or revert to an old save. Power armor frames bought from vendors wont revert so anything you do to them will stay and nothing will change when entering or leaving a cell. I think I read that somewhere else so I shouldnt take credit for it but I just tried it out myself and I can verify that this works
  3. well i decided to start pretty basic. i take the riot gear armor from lonesome road and apply my texture. then i load that mesh into 3ds max and get rid of the hood thingy and the neck guard. i then export it. now i have tried a couple things. i tried importing the body as well but it clips everywhere. as if the armor wasnt meant to fit over top of the body (which based on what i found about the way armor is applied to bodies in game that seems about right) i tried editing the mesh so that it would fit over the body but it looked to warped that i gave up on that and just went with exporting the edited armor without the body. ive exported it multiple ways clicking multiple check boxes based on the various tutorials ive looked at. for some of my tries i messed with the blocks in nifskope for others i just left it as is. but no matter what when i loaded it into GECK i got one of two results. when i added the mesh to replace an armor (the riot gear, that made sense) GECK either instantly crashed and closed or the mesh was completely invisible. ive gone back and tried this multiple times with multiple varieties of methods following a bunch of different tutorials with the same results. i didnt even get to attempting to add the shoulder pad or shin guard

Ive been working on this mod for forever but im new to modding and ive just decided to give up. ive tried every tutorial and asked questions here on the forum but i just cant get it to work. i feel like its a relatively easy mod for anyone whose even the least bit experienced with this kind of stuff but im new to it and just cant figure it out. Alright i made a retexture for the riot geat armor. it turns the boots into looking more like WWII spats/leggings and takes away the chest armor and replaces it with a double breasted red vest. i also greyed out the pants. Retexturing was no problem. but the mod requires there to be no neck guard and would look better if the collar was lower. A shin guard on the right shin with a knee guard with it and a shoulder pad on the left shoulder would look too and get rid of the hood thing around the shoulders. ive been working at this for days in 3ds max and blender and nifskope with no avail. i understand if no one wants to make it this is kinda a personal preference type mod but at least telling me how to do it would be nice. most of the tutorials out there are for skyrim or making an armor from scratch and i just want to edit this mesh. Ill include the .dds files as jpegs (it wont let me upload .dds files) with the texture including the _n file
  5. im sure this has been covered before but i havent seemed to be able to find it. im trying to make some armor mods using 3ds max 2012 and when i import a body or an armor the skeleton doesnt come with it. i know the reason for this. the directory at the bottom of the import window isnt set to the correct place. but my problem is it isnt set at all. the box at the bottom where the directory location should be is completely blank and the browse button next to it isnt clickable. which is fine i guess i could theoretically just import the skeleton separately which wouldnt be too much issue but i dont know what settings to put in the import box. any help with any of these issues would be awesome
  6. i did add new meshes and i probably forgot to parent them. im not very good with blender so im going to try 3ds max. it seems easier to use and there seem to be more tutorials out there for it
  7. Ill start off by saying this is my first custom mesh mod so its more than likely ive done a good deal of things wrong. Basically i took an armor outfit messed with it a little in blender and nifskope and am now trying to load it into GECK. I preview it in Nifskope and everything looks fine. then i open up GECK and try to load in the nif to replace the armor that i edited and almost immediately i get a notification that GECK has stopped working and it closes. Ive tried this multiple time and i cant figure out why its doing this. Mostly because it doesnt say why it just kinda does it.

Ok this isnt a new vegas question per say but im doing an armor mod for the game so i figure its pertinent. ive taken an armor mesh from the game and edited it in blender. now i want to paint on it to give it general textures so i know where everything is when i convert it to a uv map and then export that to work on it in photoshop. unfortunately when i uv unpack it it kinda gets weird as apposed to when i just simply select it and look at it in the uv window it looks about right. i also cant paint on it. when i go to texture paint mode and try to paint on it it paints the whole thing except where the brush is. im fairly new to blender but ive been searching and searching for an answer and i cant find one. im guessing its because i have to use blender 2.49 which is an old version but the only version that can read nif files. im just stumped and figured id ask for some help
  9. nevermind i got it. first i needed to name the folder in my texture and meshes folder the same name as the esp. second i needed to add the environment (_n) dds to the texture in geck. that seemed to work. im stil struggling with the gun but its a retexture of a modded gun with a custom moddle. i contacted the mod author to see if he could give me any advice
  10. ok now im having a problem where its fine in nifskope and when i first loaded into geck it worked fine too. but then i went to got test it in the game and the texture was messed up. the model was taking on the texture of whatever was around me. sometimes it was ed-e sometimes it was the gun i was carrying. im honestly not sure why. as i said its all good in nifskope but then its messed up in geck. i had the same problem with a gun im modding as well

  12. ive tried dong stuff like that but textures arent working for me in nifskope. ive looked all over for a reason for this or a fix but all ive found is that a lot of people have the same problem and no one knows why. i went to render/settings and picked a folder. i went the the folder i have the texture in and it doesnt recognize dds files. it doesnt even show them. i tried to copy and paste my texture on the texture node regardless and i still dont see the texture. i saved the file and i got the message "link points to wrong block type". i tried looking all over the various forums and internet and no one had anything useful to say. mostly people complaining about the same thing but no one having an answer as to why or even a fix

So Ive just started dabbling in texture mods for new vegas. i know what im doing when it comes to guns. theyre pretty easy. and armor seems ok too. but im trying to do a retexture for the Advanced riot gear and ive been running into some trouble. im able to add the texture in GECK and in the preview window when i edit the helmet it all looks good. then i bring it into the cell, ive been just throwing stuff in the allied technologies building, and it looses the texture. however if i turn the lights on the texture is there but when i turn the lights off the texture is gone which means that the texture in game is gone as well so im left with a white glowing helmet. i feel like this is a relatively easy fix, im probably just missing something somewhere i just dont know what and im kinda new at this so i dont know where to look. so i decided to ask for help to see if anyone has any ideas
