[Help with modding and making custom Pipboy STATS]

Are there any guides on how you properly edit or make textures for the icons in the pipboy stats screen?

I wanna edit this mod in particular, but im having trouble with editing it in general. (Like i've tried just editing the actual texture but they end up looking janky or borked whenever I export them.)

I have PS CS6 with the DDS plugin, I just don't know how to get started.
