Even after all this feedback, the site still is the same unintuitive mess it was before. Still no trending options for search and the search box still takes up the entire screen for no reason.
-
It always seemed different from that. It's hard to really compare between how it was and now though, but I know that often even very old mods that were vital would regularly be in the "Trending" section too, even if they weren't on the homepage.
-
Then my bad on that then. I missed that change. One more thing on the search, at least when it comes to something I can't fix using a custom CSS, what about the "Trending" option? That was always a significantly better sorting option than the others. Endorsements favors what is the oldest, so it really isn't a good method to sort mods.
-
And how much of that is actually useful? If the main userbase of the website are mod-users... then Images, Videos, and Users are just bloat. By default, it should focus on the game you are looking at and the mods therein. Then have toggleable options for the other search options, and have that saved as a cookie / part of the user-settings. If someone wants the others, then having it save their choice would be the best idea. Cookies and user-settings exist, and it is best to make use of them.

You're really not making a case for why it should be this way or even why it was changed to this at all. A lot of the claims are about making things "easier", but overall it's a net-negative on that.
-
Still no "Trending" sort options which always worked better than sorting mods by total endorsements. There's still much else lacking from it, but figured that would have at least been something dealt with quickly.

Good point. Edited my other post.

There needs to be one survey at the top of the site, on every page that can have an alert, that displays once per account / IP address. After a week or two of votes, then those votes need to be published. I've seen elsewhere that votes are being grouped to where 3s are also being grouped with 4s & 5s. This is simply wrong to do, and it only looks to be a sort of "coping" mechanism as a 3 out of 5 is not a good score. You, as in the team, not really you specifically, need to take a step back and try to apply that to other properties or ratings systems. Would you also think a 3 out of 5 for some game you like would also be "good"? For a "beta" that was supposedly so well-liked and solid, there's so many issues that it feels like this is the real beta phase. It's such a major downgrade with the number of features and usability that has been lost. it isn't a matter of change, it is an objective downgrade. And I do use "objective" intentionally as there really are just so many features that are now gone. There isn't a single user-facing part of this that actually helps the end-user. At this point, it now seems like the team is trying to re-add certain aspects, such as the loss of Trending. Even the search system and the way mods would appear on the page are simply slower than before. If the goal is to now bring it back up to the quality (to the end-user) of the previous design, then there's something majorly wrong with the current one. Keep the current design as default, but allow people to opt-out. You'll still get a ton more feedback than before, and can have a comment box on why the person is "opting out". Relying on only feedback from those that opted-in to the beta before was a bad move as you only gathered feedback from a very specific group of people. I know that having changes only being opt-out would still draw a negative reaction to people, but it is a better way to actually collect feedback, even if negative, from a wider group.

I was looking at the normal mod listing page and while I'm seeing some variable usage, it doesn't look to be for the colors themselves, just their opacity: Here's just a snippet from what I'm seeing. Also not sure why tw-text-opacity keeps being defined for each class. Is the CSS being edited through some other means? Whatever it is is adding a lot of bloat.
-
What about using settings? Don't have the color defined in the main CSS, but instead change text color to variables. Then have the variables change based on the user option. This way, things are more contained on the staff-side and easier to alter en masse if needed. Can then have varying degrees of contrast in user-settings. And actually, this could be a way to allow "overrides" by allowing users to define their own colors, in addition to having presets.

Sure but what about X?! Sounds good. Thanks.

What about having it as a user-option of fuzzy dates vs specific dates? Though I'd suggest the latter as being default. Also, please, a user-option to disable the keyboard shortcuts, though those would make sense to default to "on" like they are currently. Additionally, currently the Popup likes to come back even if closed. Person opens Search Popup. Clicks to close it. Alt-Tabbing out of the browser window re-opens the Search Popup.

You do realize that relying on tooltips for that kind of information when it comes to viewing a lot of information at once is bad... right? It's easier for people to read from multiple areas at once when it's displayed properly instead of having to move their cursor to each individual thing. This is just another example of how poorly thought out this change was. It's all "style" (and a pretty bad one at that) over substance. Vague "x months ago" or "x years ago" instead of the actual date only leads to a worse experience.

So while I have fixed the styling of the various pages and search myself using my own stylesheet, it all still feels like such a downgrade compared to before. I still want to know the mindset of the new layout because it really is that bad. Everyone I've asked from both novices to advanced users, and only in a way of briefly saying the site has changed, have all come away saying the new site is worse. The page is slower to load, mods often won't actually appear until a second or longer. And while that doesn't sound like much, it's much longer than the old version of the website, and it adds up. There seem to be a lot more scripts, more things to download from third-parties. The lack of "Trending" as a sortable option makes even looking through mods worse off. I've been trying to "get used to it", but all I feel like doing is just to not bother with any mods from this site. The overall experience is a net-negative. A banner should be made leading to a poll for everyone to take part in to get actual feedback from the userbase. Restrict each vote to unique IP or account even.

Ah, ok. That's better at least. I'll just make some css then for myself to target how it is on the game's popout so then it'll work on the rest of the site when that part is done. Would still like an option to disable those keyboard shortcuts though, like pressing / to open the search. I get why people like having them, but just not for me.
