So I reverted to Vanilla and completed the steps to revert the cache in the Skyrim folder. Turns out, there was a message I was getting from TES5Edit that didn't make sense, something like "Skyrim - Shaders.bsa is not a valid BSA file" error that prevented the completion of the Editing software. Opening that file revealed nothing, and I deleted it, then TES5Edit was able to complete its work. When I had reinstalled Skyrim, I had a desktop crash and that probably wrecked that particular file, which was causing the CTD. Since the reboot, I have had no issues.
