  1. I haven't built a gaming rig yet, so I'm speaking purely from my experience on my tablet with keyboard: I'm really enjoying the User Interface of Windows 10 a lot more than Windows 8. The start menu is back, and the oddly frustrating "tile" menu is gone. The Windows 8 "tiles," or whatever they were, were oddly frustrating in a way I can't explain. I can't speak for any other features like Edge or Cortana; I use Google Chrome as my browser. Maybe I will try Edge in the future.
  2. I don't know a lot about indie development, but I have often thought about the expatriate lifestyle. If you're ever looking for a bit of change and live in the U.S., ironically the thing to do is perhaps look inside your own country first. There's a lot of diverse climates, cultures, and economics going on in different parts of the U.S., and you don't have to go through any complicated hoops to experience those things. I don't know anything about the Philippines, though. Sometimes ideas seem really enticing from our point of view, but if you were stuck in their shoes over there, you might find yourself missing home (or the conveniences we have here). Every country has its upsides and downsides. The cool thing about the U.S. is, if you are unsatisfied with where you are, there are many more options to try out before crossing an entire ocean. That is only my point of view though.
  3. First off, let me thank you for being so civil and honest in your opinions. To answer number one, *and i am not a cop, but have friends and relatives who are* "If" is usually not an option "if" will get you dead if you bump up against the wrong guy. To answer number two. (according to my "cop" friends)...."You are exactly right, but that wasn't exactly the case with Brown. There were a lot of "if's" rolled up in that scenario, "if's that can get you dead IF you aren't correct in your judgment. ... Again, TWO perspectives at play here. Yeah, it's a tricky issue; cops are humans too, and I imagine the job would certainly be terrifying at times. I predict that there could be a lot more of these types of incidents in the future. With the advent of body cameras, though, hopefully there should be enough evidence in the future to quell any protests in the cases where the civilian happens to be at fault. In my mind, the perfect solution would be a type of robo-cop; robots don't have feelings and could be perfectly programmed to deal with these types of issues, and no humans would have to risk their lives to do the job. That is a huge step, though; many people are distrustful of robots with movies like The Terminator or The Matrix. It could be a gradual transition, so that current officers can keep their job to retirement, but any new positions are filled by robots. Kind of a pipe-dream, for now, though.
  4. I think you have to take a minute and look at this from the cops perspective....Brown had just robbed a store, was walking down the middle of the street like he owned it, refused to take to the sidewalk when asked, reached into the cops car (to grab his gun?) when pulled by the cop, runs away with a bullet wound to the hand after, then turns and charges the cop (allegedly). What would you do if your were the police officer? Remember, Brown was a big strong dude, do you wait for him to get to you before you pull the trigger?? Oh...and how did the cop know he did not posses (in the moment) a firearm? Not trying to stray too far away from the topic, but I'll try to address these points with my own opinions: 1. I don't have any training that would qualify me to become a police officer, so I don't know how I would react in that situation. But if I could, I'd call backup if I couldn't deal with the situation by myself in a satisfactory manner. Satisfactory meaning nobody dies. 2. How does a cop know that anybody does or does not possess a firearm? Any random stranger can pull out a gun and start shooting without any warning. Mere suspicion doesn't warrant gunning someone down. Back to the subject, I believe the protests were necessary to give the subject matter national attention, but I'm sure they could have been organized better to not interrupt local businesses and such.
  5. Off-topic for a second: Everybody has a right to life in this country, regardless of whether they are a "thug" or not. Regardless of what gas station they stole from. Regardless of how "unruly" they could be. When an unarmed person of any color gets shot and killed, it's a travesty. I could understand if they had a bomb or a flamethrower or automatic machine gun and are harming others, but unarmed? Why not just call for backup to help subdue the suspect instead of becoming judge/jury/executioner and killing them on the spot? Where's the due process of law? Heck, the Boston Bomber got more due process..... On-topic: I don't think I'm exactly comfortable lumping all protesters together. All it takes is one person with a flaming bottle to ignite a frenzy, but not everyone there has a motive to loot or destroy stuff. While many might have been breaking the law, I'm sure a good many were also compliant. And shooting tear gas canisters anywhere and everywhere isn't exactly going to de-escalate things; people do crazy things when they are afraid.
  6. I've got a 1.4GHz processor, Intel HD integrated graphics, 2 GB RAM, with Windows 8 on my tablet, so my specs are worse than yours. My game runs pretty good even outdoors, although oddly whenever I turn my view my FPS takes a momentary but significant dip. My first unrelated suggestion is, even if you don't plan to get any mods at all, at least look into the "Morrowind Code Patch." This is a mod on the Nexus site (one of the top rated mods, too) that fixes the Morrowind executable by eliminating bugs and glitches, but it also includes various other options for improving the game. It's a must-have, in my opinion, and every option it comes with is OPTIONAL and thoroughly explained. It's an .exe file though, so I'd recommend scanning it with your favorite anti-virus, if you do use it. When you run the .exe file, it pops up a big checklist of all the options; you check the ones you want, click the "apply patch" button, and it makes a backup and then modifies the Morrowind executable. My second suggestion to you is to edit the Morrowind.ini file located in your Morrowind folder (make a backup first!). This is the configuration file for your game which includes various graphical and game options, more than what you can control from in-game menus. It's a simple text file and easy to configure, although it can look somewhat confusing at first. There are many guides on the web to editing this file, so play around with it to see if you get any better performance. I can't help any more than that, I'm absolutely terrible with computers, and also bad at describing things. Although, here is another topic related because the person in the topic also said they have very similar FPS issues (although they have graphics card): http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/285375-fps-issues-with-modern-hardware/
  7. Instead of a mandatory military service where it takes a lot of money to train and outfit soldiers into efficient killing machines, why not instead invest that money into giving every citizen a free higher education with the stipulation that each student receiving education for free has a mandatory community service (helping people/the environment) either at home or abroad? That would give everyone a chance at continuing education, it would improve our communities, our foreign relations, the value of each individual citizen overall, and the future of our planet. It's really a no-brainer.
  8. I like to think that confidence is also built by failure. Failure is experience, which translates to knowledge you can pass on to other people. If you tried to invent a light bulb 1000 times but failed, you could have written down your failures to present to other people so that they may use your experience to further work on that project. Failure IS valuable depending on how you view it, even if it does not eventually lead to success. I also believe that confidence and self-esteem CAN BE two entirely different facets of one's personality. Some people might inexorably despise themselves for their failures or lack of abilities which translates into a low self esteem, but other people may think highly of themselves despite their continuous failures and lack of confidence. It all depends on their frame of reference of what it means to be human, and if they can love themselves for that. For instance, in a chess tournament of 10 people, since only one person can win, does that mean the 9 other people should hate themselves? They may not be confident in their chess-playing ability due to lack of success, but at least they had fun playing and contributed to the game as a whole.
  9. I can see stuff like GPS tracking really come in handy. What if you were travelling to a foreign country (or even walking down your own street!), and got kidnapped and forced into slavery or torture? Wouldn't you want the government to know where you are so they could rescue you? If they offered me a chip to put into my fingertip or something so they could track my location, sure, I'd get it.
  10. I can't speak for others, but I value self-esteem higher than confidence. I'm not a confident person. I'm a tiny fragile bag of bones and organs (that can be killed by things I can't see), stuck on a rock hurtling through space towards who knows where, with little clue about why I'm here or what I'm supposed to be doing. But gosh darnit, I love myself.
  11. I completely agree. Anyway, I'm 24. I think I have a fear of being in public, so the Nexus and games in general have been a godsend for me. Thanks to all the people, young and old, that make up this community of enthusiasts and content-creators.
  12. I just bought Morrowind and Skyrim on Steam with the holiday sale, but seeing as I'm on a tablet, Skyrim was an investment into future gaming and Morrowind was for the now. I had played Morrowind on Xbox way back in the day. Having played both Oblivion on a laptop that died and Skyrim on both the Xbox360 and Playstation 3, I feel like returning to Morrowind is a huge breath of fresh air. I just installed it and some mods and started testing. It was my first time installing and using mods, ever!!!!!!!! I'm super excited. It doesn't seem to run too bad on my tablet, even with the integrated graphics (Intel HD). I like the original game, so the mods I'm using are minimal. Some of them were a pain in the butt to find. Here's a small list (names aren't all accurate, I'm sort of summarizing what they are for): 1. Morrowind Code Patch 2. Morrowind Patch Project 3. Official Mods (minus LeFemm armor and Entertainers, no interest) 4. Better Heads and Pluginless Khajiit Head Replacer 5. Better Bodies and Better Bodies for Beasts 6. Better Clothes, More Better Clothes, and Better Morrowind Armor (to fit Better Bodies) 7. Replacers for Azura, Almalexia, Dagoth Ur, Dremora, and Vivec (to match Better Bodies/Better Heads) 8. Better Governing Attributes and State-Base HP (HP no longer reliant on how soon you boost Endurance) 9. Khajiit and Argonian Beast Power Toggles 10. Hollaajith's Weapons and Armor Overhauls (with included patches for Better Morrowind Armor) 11. A mod that allows you to store information about Trainers in your journal 12. Skyrim UI Overhaul for Morrowind After I finalized my mod list, I consolidated them all into one compressed folder to make future installs easier, rather than installing each mod individually. I'm not using any Graphics Extenders since I'm on a tablet. My goal was to fix bugs, improve the user interface, and dramatically improve the character/armor/clothing models. I feel like the mods I used accomplished that, but only from minor testing, I haven't played very much yet. My tablet specs: Processor: Intel 1.46 GHz RAM: 2 GB 32 bit Operating System Windows 8 Integrated Intel HD graphics (no dedicated graphics card) I hope it doesn't melt my tablet (I love this thing, with it's own attachable keyboard), I really want this game to last. I capped my FPS to 30, hopefully it will increase stability.
  13. Can't choose just one... However, I love the original Final Fantasy Tactics for playstation. The characters were amazing, the battles were tough, the story was crazy and the music complemented it very well. I loved the amount of thinking I had to do to get my characters ready for battle, and I loved the consequences of each and every decision during a battle.
  14. I didn't vote as I haven't played World of Warcraft, but in general I'm very wary of MMOs. The reason? Continued development of the game can make it more interesting, but it can also ruin what you once liked about it. There's something precious about turning on a game that you own that won't suddenly change overnight and ruin your experience with it. That's why I'm never wasting another second on an MMO (even Elder Scrolls Online). Sure, it might be a good game now, it could even have an excellent community. One day you might wake up to log in to find a new update that destroyed your character, soon later your friends leave, the community becomes lackluster, and all those hours you have spent trying to make something of it were fun at the time but turn into bitter regret at all the time wasted. I used to play RS a long time ago. They have more content now, but the cash shop they added and some recent updates make the game seem very cheap and transparent...
  15. Personally, I can see any race of character joining either the Stormcloaks or the Imperial Legion. However, my main problem is trying to figure out how I can be in all of the side factions at once while siding with either the Imperials or Stormcloaks. Going into details would reveal too many spoilers (forget if I'm in the spoiler section or not, going to be careful), but for example: -Siding with the Brotherhood almost seems made for a Stormcloak playthrough, and very illogical for an Imperial Legion playthrough -The Thieves Guild is in the pocket of Maven Blackbriar, who is allied with the Imperials, making a Thieves/Stormcloak playthrough misguided -The Companions seem more Stormcloak aligned (given their roots) -The College of Winterhold seems a bit more neutral, but tensions with the Synod of Cyrodiil make the College seem more suitable for Stormcloaks So even if I was an Orc in the Imperial Legion, it would seem misguided for me to join the Dark Brotherhood, the Companions, or, to a lesser extent the College of Winterhold. I'm stricly speaking from a role-playing perspective, here, but it seems like to get the most content out of a playthrough, I'd have to join the Stormcloaks because many of the factions in Skyrim, save the Thieves Guild, seem much more reasonable to a Stormcloak character. Either that, or I'd ignore the Civil War altogether and be a neutral force, but then I get to the issue of being some weird jack of all trades Mage/Thief/Assassin/Werewolf-Warrior type of character.
  16. Overall, I think it does cheapen conjuration somewhat. But, consider: First, that item requires recharging to use. That can be a hassle as opposed to casting, where your magicka regenerates on its own or restored quickly with a potion. Second, I don't think Dremoras have any sort of ranged attack, so if you used Sanguine's Rose on a dragon, you would be a sitting duck until it landed. It does give warrior types a definite advantage in a combat situation with little to no investment at all, so yeah, I can see where you think it cheapens it. Oh, one more thing: If I recall correctly, the higher your skill in a school of magic, the less charges you use for a related staff. I'm not sure if it applies in this case, but I think if you had a very high conjuration skill, you could get more uses out of the staff. I could be completely wrong, but that's how I remember it on the xbox 360 (I don't have a PC good enough to play yet).
  17. Thanks! That helped, I'll look at better graphics cards, I prefer Nvidia so I'll probably go with the GTX 780. I'll also look at a different CPU if that one overheats easily, although I don't want to overclock.
  18. Have you ever been walking through town, minding your own business and you hear a whisper right behind you "Psst, I know who you are. Hail Sithis!" It was probably that random guy who ratted you out to Astrid, haha.
  19. Hey, I know this topic has been done a lot, but I have read through a lot of these topics on Nexus forums and other sites to no avail. I've tried researching computer parts, but with no previous knowledge, it takes me hours to try and comprehend what all the numbers mean, and I end up body slamming myself onto my bed in frustration. It's a miracle I can even post on the Internet at all. I've gone ahead and assembled a list of items that in the end I'm hoping will somehow fit together into a working computer, and I'll also list my budget and what I plan on using it for as well. Can anybody here help a lowly console gamer get into PC gaming by suggesting better parts and telling me if it will all be compatible and fit together in the end? BUDGET: $1000-$2000 PURPOSE: GAMING (Skyrim, Fallout), VIDEO EDITING (I'd like to do what Gopher does), MODDING Anyway, for Skyrim I'm going to be using SMIM, WATER, Amidianborn Book of Silence, ELFX, as well as a couple of script heavy mods like Frostfall. I'd like a quieter computer delivering a constant 60 FPS at Max Ultra Settings at a high resolution like 1080, without needing to overclock anything. I probably won't use an ENB, but if I do it will be one that has the lowest hit on performance to where I would be above 30 FPS all the time. I found all that on NewEgg. I'm really not sure if it will all fit together or if there are any better parts or deals out there. But I do know that I'd like Intel CPU and MOBO, a G.Skill RAM, and an NVidia GPU, which I think I have in there. I wanted the Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 but it said it was out of stock. I'm aware that my list does not have a cooler/fan, or a monitor/keyboard/mouse etc. I'd definitely appreciate any advice on this computer build (like telling me if it will even fit together haha), or if you have anywhere I could go to learn more. Thanks!
  20. Oh, like I said I haven't built my gaming PC yet so I haven't tried it out, I've only seen a video review where the quest mentions "being left in this cell to rot" or something of that nature, and having written a note about having to eat the flesh from the skeleton nearby to survive. Then the Mara statue appears to save you. I want to make a character generation cell that doesn't remove my character from the story. The original start did this extremely well, although it was very time consuming to actually create a new character, and it sort of forced the main quest upon you immediately. What if you "rewind" the story from the beginning of the game? All I know is being loaded into a wagon with hands bound with a bunch of Stormcloaks. Taking it one step back, your character must have been near or in a Stormcloak encampment which is ambushed by an Imperial Legion party, where you get knocked unconscious and your hands are bound. Taking it another step back, your character hasn't even gone near the Stormcloak camp yet and is simply traveling or crossing the border into Skyrim, which is where my new outdoor cell comes into play. Instead of having character creation start after the cart ride, it makes a new space that happened before the cart ride and before the ambushed Stormcloak camp. There would definitely be issues I'd have to sort out, such as how to change the beginning of the main quest in such a way that whether you choose the original start or not, there would be an immersive way to continue on about the main quest. Then there's the issue of sometimes wanting to choose where to start, and sometimes being spontaneous and wanting to be plopped somewhere random; I definitely would like both options.
  21. Hey everybody! I've been looking at all the alternate start mods, and they look great, especially the two most popular ones: Alternate Start Live Another Life by Arthmoor and Random Alternate Start by Cyclonix. They both greatly reduce the amount of time needed to start a new game, which seems like a common want/need from the Skyrim community that I've seen in the comments section. However, in my own personal opinion, both of these handle starting the game very differently (let me add to this by saying that I don't have my gaming PC yet and this is all based on the descriptions of the mods). Live Another Life seems to spawn the player in a jail cell with choice of where to start after that, and Random Alternate Start seems to spawn the character somewhere randomly after character creation. There's no inherent problem with either of these, but I feel like there could be MORE alternate start mods to be made that could address some personal issues that I may or may not have in common with others: namely, that I do not want to spawn in a jail cell as it seems to assume my character is at least a little bit bad, AND that I might want BOTH a choice of where to start and a choice of a random location. Which leads me to my next questions: Is there any more need from the community for different Alternate Start mods? and What would you want from an Alternate Start mod if you wanted something new/different? This whole train of thought leads me to my brand shiny new Mod that I have in the planning stages (no gaming PC yet, but this is not a request it's my own mod I'm going to make): Before Helgen! Before Helgen is an Alternate Start/Quick Start mod that takes the player one step back from the Helgen cart ride intro sequence to keep the player fully immersed in the Skyrim timeline and story. This would be in a new confined, separate outdoor cell that would contain 3 paths: a path on a well traveled road that you could choose to go to any of the main cities, a forested path that leads to a random location in the wilderness, and a path that leads to the Stormcloak camp that gets ambushed and leads into the original cart ride intro sequence. What the previous description does is as follows: 1. Keeps the player immersed in the Skyrim timeline and story without dumping them somewhere unrelated 2. Allows the player the choice to start quickly OR to choose original start (I believe LAL does this too) 3. Allows the player to choose where to start OR to start in a random location 4. Makes as little assumptions about the player as possible (no jail cell start or being a cannibal) Now, there would be a few issues I'd have to get settled to fully immerse the player such as removing any and all dialogue referencing the player's presence at Helgen whether they were there or not (really, who would notice a lowly captive when a HUGE DRAGON is attacking and chaos ensues?). I'd also like to include compatibility with other mods such as Frostfall and Realistic Needs mods by including things such as a wood chopping block with a woodcutting axe, an abandoned cart with bags of produce, a dead deer or sabrecat for meat and furs, a pond for water, some dead bandits, with various types of beginner gear, killed by the Stormcloaks before they set up camp down the road. All this would not feel out of place in an outdoor cell (ideally small and cut off from the rest of the world to load more easily). So what does my mod sound like so far? I'm aware there's a lot more to the mod-making process than just my simple plan, but once I get my gaming PC I'm ready to train and practice to do it right. I think my mod concept is different enough from Alternate Start: Live Another Life and Random Alternate Start to merit its creation and submission to the Nexus (when I finally get my gaming PC and get the mod made haha). I'm just wondering if there's anything I'm overlooking or is there something else I could add or change? I'm trying to go for something Lore Friendly, Quick, and Unassuming. Thanks for any constructive criticism, ideas, or discussion you provide.
  22. The tea party, in it's core from what you describe TRoaches, seems like something that should appeal to Colourwheel. Wouldn't less government oversight mean that they have less influence on social policy and therefore less discrimination of LGBT through policies like having gay marriage be illegal? I think that's a state level issue, though, and not federal, so it's the states that have that discrimination I think, correct me if I'm wrong. But the less military budget seems like a definite rallying point for most people, except maybe those with careers in that field. I still think government has a role to play such as keeping certain regulations in place like clean water, clean restaurants, environmental protection, so there's definitely some middle ground between huge government and very little government, it's just a matter of striking a good balance and eliminating the bloat while keeping things essential to a safe society. This is all my opinion and ponderings anyway, take with grain of salt.
  23. TRoaches I find your list above of unethical practices very refreshing. I'm not well versed in the legality of things, but I am human and can identify the ethicality of things. Those are the types of arguments that can (or should) rally a population to debate the size and scope of government or open up the debate further. It seems the real tragedy here is television and those that misuse their ability to gain a large audience for their own purpose.
  24. To Tidus, my comment wasn't for you, it was a general question that wasn't meant to be part of the serious debate, just sort of jokingly haha. I'm not sure I understand the debate on population control. I always thought that the earth had "built in" population controls, such as finite resources, that if used up by too many people, would lead to death of people. If the people of earth took account of this before deciding to reproduce more than what can be supported, they might avoid a shortage of resources. I too would find population control abhorrent if it was directed at any specific ethnicity or social class, but isn't that how it exists now? For example a poor country will have less resources to sustain a population and it's people will die out faster than a rich country. In a world without money, one would think it would not happen this way. So advocates of LESS technology inadvertently could be advocates of population control through the lack of equal distribution of resources across all ethnicities and classes. In short, population control already exists in the form of finite resources and is enacted upon those of lower class. Isn't there a better, less abhorrent way of living than the world is currently? Sorry for any lack of understanding I have or any bad points made, that's the way I see things currently.
  25. I like your viewpoint Tidus! Here's my question: If everyone is supposed to fend for themselves, why don't we just let all dogs, cats, and pets loose? They should be employed too. Maybe I'm not being serious here haha.
