Triple dose of Fallout: New Vegas DLC is coming
Dasim4 replied to sasa8585's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
I'll also be disappointed if they don't do something with the map. There is so much untouched area that could really have been put to use for the game. It's totally wasted space. I was really shocked by how small the actual map area is especially considering the lack of expansive underground areas. I also feel what hurt this game was the inability to continue playing after the main story. Yeah, yeah I get that it would have been more complicated to program in all the possibilities. Regardless it still put a limit on it and that doesn't work well for this style of game. -
It probably should have been phrased differently as well as only being made available to people who don't have the discount already. If you already have the discount why would you risk losing it by letting him know what you did? He never says a word about it so why should I? And I agree about the Vendortron comment. It's a robot. No obvious doors. It was pretty obvious how they did it. I just ignored that one. There are lots of others like that but I never click on them because I think it makes my character look stupid. Role playing right? Yea my character isn't supposed to be a moron.

Companions refusing to wait AND teleporting to me.
Dasim4 replied to Maniac3020's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
I tried going with the speech option instead of the wheel but it still didn't work. I still had companions following me or porting to me no matter what I did. The game has issues. -
It's not the weapons he wants, it's the mods. You can only get those from a vendor and guess who sells the most for Energy Weapons? It's a bad situation to have Cass along with an energy weapons user.
-
Amost 10 G but would be a lot more if I had a better computer. I have to be careful about mods with high resolution textures because my rig doesn't handle them too well.

Companions refusing to wait AND teleporting to me.
Dasim4 replied to Maniac3020's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Yea it's definitely a problem even with Vanilla companions under certain circumstances. But it's even worse with modded companions. Not sure what the issue is but the only way to be 100% sure they won't go with you somewhere is to fire them. -
Weapons don't' have a Critical Chance, they have a critical chance multiplier. Ratslayer's is 5x. So, if you character's CC is at least 20% then yes, you'd always score a critical hit. But Ratslayer is a Varmit Rifle, not exactly what you'd chose to hunt mutants or cazadore's with, even with a 100% CC because the critical damage is so low. They game is well balanced in this regard. Don't underestimate the Ratslayer. For a stealth character at range with the night vision scope and the silencer, maxxed guns, and always critting, it can be a very potent weapon. Even if it takes more than one shot it doesn't matter because they never see you anyway.

I've you've already done the quest once you can't repeat it for Veronica. If Ed-e gets caught in the blast when you ignite the gas on the bottom level of the vault he glitches and gets stuck there somewhere and will remain there indefinitely but also remains as your companion indefinitely. You keep the perk but you'll never get Ed-e back without using the console. He's stuck that way in my game now which is fine for me because I just want his perk anyway.

NCR Ranger Combat Armor costume
Dasim4 replied to MysteriousStranger101's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Wow good luck making that. After looking through that thread it looks like he put many, many hours into that build. The results are absolutely fantastic though. One of the best costumes I've seen someone make for a game. -
There are actually several drop boxes around the NV map. Not sure why someone said there were only 2 because that's not true.

Can i side with House and keep Boone?
Dasim4 replied to BobbyRobertoArias's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Some spoilers here for anyone reading that doesn't want to see them. Well it's at the very end so unless you modded the game to keep playing after the main story it won't make a whole lot of difference. But it's in the final conversation you have with General Oliver and you need to have 100 in either Speech, Barter, or Science to resolve it peacefully. If you have a skill high enough, but not quite 80, you can boost it up to 100 with a magazine before starting the conversation. You talk to Oliver after wiping out Cesar's troops after the fight at the Dam. As you approach the main gate to leave Oliver bursts through with an explosion so save before heading to the gate and use a magazine if you need to. -
The game engine would need some major changes to make vehicles work decently. It could be ok if done correctly but I wouldn't want it in the game the way it is now.

Can i side with House and keep Boone?
Dasim4 replied to BobbyRobertoArias's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
You can side with House and have Boone to the end. There's also a peaceful resolution with the NCR if you play your cards right even when to do side with House. After all it isn't House's ultimate intention to go to war with the NCR. He mostly wants them out of the region so he can control the dam. Controlling the dam insures that he will be in power for a very long time to come. -
It would have made more sense if the new sheriff came running up to you once you returned looking for assistance with a hostage situation inside V&V. It still makes him pretty inept as a law keeper but it's better than having him walk around oblivious to the situation. How would even a half assed sheriff not know there are people being held hostage in the town's most important business? Also, the town can hold off a whole pack of well armed Powder Gangers but it can't deal with a few pathetic NCR deserters? Yea I'm still not buying it.
-
Well I do agree that the deserters bit made no sense at all. Hey where's that tough sherriff I got for you guys anyway? Yea I didn't like that part either. Never noticed that the casino emptied out if you go out and back in because I never did that. And I had already talked to the robot while I was in there the first time. I always talk to everyone I can when I first get somewhere. Not sure if that changed things or not. I just know I went back at some point and there were people in the casino. I guess whether it plays out wierd for you or not depends on how much time you spend there. I just wasn't there more than a few times and didn't really care much about the Casino really. It is too bad they didn't do something with the hotel though. They could have had some people in there, cleaned it up, had a nice room for you since you did so much for the town. Oh well. Maybe someone will mod it.
-
Ahh I see. I never buy these games for my consoles simply because of the mods and being able to use the console to fix the inevitable bugs. Just something as simple as getting stuck in terrain would drive me nuts on the console. Nothing against consoles. I play a lot of games on them. But Oblivion, Fallout 3, and FONV had to be on PC because I knew the modding community would do wonderful things with them and they have. And yes there's a mod to have a perk every level along with another mod to let you keep playing once the main story is over if you want. There are already a lot of good mods out there. It has transformed my game and I've really enjoyed messing around with them. It's one of my favorite parts of these games. It adds so much replay value to them.

It's better than FO3 in some ways and worse in others. You can tell it's made by a different group. In some ways it's a good thing because they added in some cool stuff like all the interaction with the different factions. They also put in a few things that were modded into FO3 like iron sites and weapon mods. But the game world isn't nearly as varied or interesting as the one in Fallout 3. It's more domesticated and much less threatening in most places. It has it's moments but they are too spread out to keep the momentum going for very long. Also they made poor use of the game world, leaving huge areas completely unused. Because of this, and the fact that there are very few underground areas, the map is small compared to the one in Fallout 3. There's a decent amount of exploration but not nearly the level that FO3 had. I was disappointed by this most of all. That said I've really enjoyed this game. I've got about 150 hours between two characters atm and still playing on my second one. There are enough new things about it to keep it interesting and I've also had fun adding in mods here and there to change things up a bit. If you really enjoyed FO3 I would probably recommend this but if your money is really tight you may want to pass at least until they come out with a final package that includes all the DLC content that is supposed to be coming.

How is using C4 a waste? I had like 20 of them at that point with no real plans to use them for anything. I thought it was pretty cool. I dropped one at the gas, strolled back to the elevator, pulled out my detonator, BOOM! I see the flames coming towards me and at the last second I dove into the elevator and avoided being roasted. It was pretty awesome to be honest.

This would be a better topic for the mod suggestion page. Obviously Obsidian isn't going to change a thing at this point so your best hope is to get a modder to make these changes for you. That is entirely possible.

One thing they do poorly in these games is any sort of rebuilding after bad things have happened to a place. It's usually up to the modding community to rectify those situations. It's the same in Nipton. The stupid tire fires are burning days and days after the events that happened there. Not sure why they can't bother to script something happening that clears that sort of thing up. At the very least the tires should stop burning. Thankfully someone already modded that in. As far as the Vicky and Vance goes, that was explained pretty well in the game. The Powder Gangers moved in and everyone that didn't get killed barricaded themselves in the casino for protection. That's why it was so crowded at the beginning. Once you get law and order restored most of them leave the casino to go back outside. The game being what it is I didn't really expect the Hotel to become functional. Would have been nice but again, they don't do that sort of thing in these games. Once an area is dead it's dead. But my casino didn't totally empty out so I'm not sure what you mean by that. I still have several people and the robot inside wandering around. The people that left are outside walking around different spots. The old man and his wife to the store and there's a couple out by the main road and a couple more walking around outside the casino. I wish they would do more with these situations when they program the game. These small towns could come to life or die as you interact with them. Instead they do one thing and then remain totally stagnant for the remainder of the game. At least it gives the modders something to work on. Hopefully someone will take on that project in more than just Nipton and bring these places to life after the bad guys are chased out. Either that or it would be nice to see it turn into a Powder Ganger base.

I don't like the pop ups or the adds that suddenly blare loud audio clips. There have been one or two that couldn't be muted too and those are bad. But the really loud ones are extremely annoying. I don't mind ads and realize they are necessary but I don't like them thrown in my face every few mins. In fact I will never buy from anyone who uses ads like that.
-
I think it really has a lot to do with the developers as you have stated. If you could somehow blend what the two of them have accomplished, you'd have a much better game over all. Instead you have one that is lacking in some areas and another that is lacking in other areas. I don't feel either game really nailed it completely. They need to work together more and keep pushing boundries. But as a whole I feel like this game didn't get the TLC that FO3 received even with the improvements in some areas. NV is much smaller in size and like you said there are a lot of areas where absolutely nothing happens. There are rehashed cave interiors where the caves barely take 5 mins to explore. How hard would it have been to do a unique cave or use a different model or change something so it wasn't an exact duplicate of the cave you explored only an hour ago? I was just surprised at the overall reduction in size of the map especially considering how few underground areas there were. And even with a massive reduction in utilization of the whole map they couldn't find anything interesting to do with many of the areas that can be explored. The whole eastern side of the river, other than the Fort, which is very small, is closed off to exploration of any kind. There's the massive airport at the bottom with only a few random boxes to open with nothing special to be gained. The entire northern area is closed off and there's a great deal of the west that is also closed off. I can't see all of that being opened in DLC content and even if it is it will feel like they are cheating us out of a full game by hacking it up into pieces to sell later. FO3 on the other hand used pretty much the entire map from corner to corner and the DLC added even more areas outside that as well as adding to the main map with Broken Steel. My main worry is that the trend of shrinking the map will continue. Oblivion was larger than FO3 and FO3 was larger than NV. If they get any smaller it won't really feel much like an open world game any longer especially if they keep adding loading zones like they had in NV. NV had too many loading zones especially in and around around NV. Every little section of street is broken up by loading zones. DC had that great open feel even in the broken up city areas. They were large and had a lot of detail in them. I need to quit this because I really like NV. I just wish they had continued on with what Bethesda had done as well as add the improvements they added. Instead they backed up a good ways before going forward again and in the end they actually were a bit behind or just equal to the standard that FO3 set instead of being well ahead of it where they should have been. Maybe next time. I've still enjoyed both games very much regardless of their faults.

Karma is a complete joke in NV. The only difference I've had it make for me is whether Cass will stay with me or not. I had been doing a lot of the aforementioned procuring of unattended items with red names so I developed a fairly negative Karma, meaning I was extremely evil, and she wanted to leave me. Instead we set off to the West side of McClarren where I wiped out every Viper in the area and was declared so good as to be a Lord of the Wasteland or something similar. It's all pretty silly and pointless to be honest. In my previous playthrough, where I didn't take Cass along, nobody ever mentioned anything that indicated my Karma level one way or the other. Honestly I think it should have a major effect as to how you are treated by the general populace. I think an evil Karma should result in good townsfolk and their tradespeople not having anything to do with you. Your dealings would then be limited to the more unscrupulous people in the game which would come with its own benefits and inconveniences. Same for having a good Karma which should disallow you from having anything to do with the more evil groups in the game. I found it strange how in this they focused so much more on group interaction than in Fallout 3, but totally failed to properly impliment the use of Karma in these dealings.
