  1. As Fl0w mentioned above...

It thing it's related to the resolution. So if your monitor has a native reolution (let's say) 1920x1080 and your game runs at a lower resolution (for performance reasons perhaps),

while you are playing the game your icons switch places to fit your screen and when you close your game it does change the position because now your desktop space is bigger.

    Try that:

Right click on your desktop - got to View - uncheck Auto arrange icons, because If it's checked everytime your desktop resolution changes it will rearrange your icons.

So when a game runs in a different resolution the icons get moved and rearranged then when you quit the game.

With it unchecked they will normally stay in the same location since auto arrange does not move them with the resolution change.

So when the game closes and it goes back to the original resolution the icons will stay where they were.

    ----------

Of course it could be related to somehting else, as your GTX 980 is able to play your game at least at 1080p.

The other thing you can try is, if you have a monitor with high refresh rate (let's say 144Hz), lower the monitors refresh rate.

There are some games that having that perticular problem with high refresh rates.

I thing one of those games was Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth.

  2. What Fighting?

Actually my fault, as the above links where intended for the OP.

Besides, everyone has the freedom to make their own choices i guess.

If you thing that Microsoft Essential is enough for an 100% secure environment, that's your probem.

So, my intention was to protect the OP, for securing his RIG as much as possible with some free AV programs.

You made your choice pretty clear. Let him do his own...

  3. From your pdf you posted, MSE don't even gets to the award winning products.

"Microsoft was considered as a baseline and was therefore tested out-of-competition, due to which it is not included in the awards page. The score of Microsoft Windows Defender would be equivalent to STANDARD."

That above says it all. It's a baseline AV product and can't be compared directly with other AV products.

    ------

No one should rely on MSE only, if security is his(her) first priority. !!!

The OP should seach a bit, and not ever consider to use the free Microsoft Antivirus on the long run on his(her) PC.

I would suggest one of the following AV's

    AVG Free Antivirus 2015
    Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition
    Avast! Free Antivirus 2015
    Avira Free Antivirus 2015
    ----------
Also with any of those above, MalwareBytes is a must have Anti malware utility for the overal protection on todays systems.
  4. This is a configuration near $950 (inclusive OS)

    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jPndyc

This PC will play all today games without problems, and i guess it will be sufficient enough for the next 3 years.

    ---------

This one comes near $740 (inclusive OS)

    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/vpgzJx

That's also a very good system with some sacrifices to make...as gaming concerns.

    ---------

And lasty this one comes near to $580 (inclusive OS)

    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2TCDP6

But that's not a gaming PC for 1080P anymore...(at least not for the mods you wanna put into)

  5. Even if Pascal it's on the way, i thing the 980Ti will serve you well for the next years ro come. Of course only time will tell.

    ----------------

Also an advise: Corsair is one of the best manufacturers as PSU concerns (of course not all Corsairs are top notch), but in this setup i thing the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 is a better choice, it you are willing to pay a little more.

It comes with an 10 year warranty, and it's an outstanding PSU.

    http://www.ebuyer.com/630113-evga-supernova-850w-fully-modular-80-gold-power-supply-220-g2-0850-xr

    -----------------

What i would recommend over the above mentioned EVGA PSU is the AX860 Platinum series from Corsair.

It's the creme dela creme what Corsair has to offer, and is ground-breaking in any way possible, so a top-notch performer.

Maybe the best PSU out there in his price category. !!!

Also a second advise. You can be cheap on a GPU or ram memory modules and even on a mobo, but you don't wanna be cheap on the PSU.

The PSU powers up all your components. If the PSU doesn't work as steady as possible your hardware will fail overtime in a "physical" and logical" way.

  6. Just buy the GTX 970 and keep it as much as possible. It makes a well balanced system with your i5.

If you don't play at 4K, at resolutions up to 1080p and maybe 1440p on some games, this setup will serve you well.

After a couple of years (i guess in the next 3 years) you could go with an better CPU and GPU configuration. Until then, newer hardware will arrive for sure.

Pascal next year and Volta in 2018. As intel concerns *Kaby Lake Family Processor is on the way (probably 2017), and also the most awaited and promising **AMD Zen processor.

So the wisest choice would be, not to spend a huge amount of money on todays hardware.

    -----------------

    * with additional PCI-Express lanes to fully support the upcoming Optane Storage from Intel that uses 3DX Point memory. The platform also supports Thunderbolt 3, PCI-e SSDs and USB 3.1 controllers.

** With an vastly improvement on IPC and performance over the older Bulldozer core. (that couldn't keep well enough against similar Intel CPUs anyway)

    -----------------

    Best wishes from Greece...

  7.

Does your motherboard need a BIOS update for that CPU? Check this against the ASRock site ("it boots so no" is not a valid response - many boards may boot with an incompatible BIOS/CPU combo and you get very unpredictable results). Is the PSU sufficient to power everything you have hooked up? Are you running a bunch of mods? Does the vanilla game work okay? Does a new game work okay?

This was actually the issue. Searches brought me to the rev.2 boards bios I think, which is on a lower revision number and matched my bios.

Thanks for the help guys, hoping and praying this solves the problem officially and I didn't just get lucky on my stress tests. =3

    Wish you luck!

  8. Mark and Psijonica,

thanks both of you for looking into all of this and giving me some very solid and good advice!

I will check out pricing for GTX 980 and 980 Ti and see how far i can stretch my budget. Maybe waiting for a few more months and then see if i can get a sale somewhere could help out.

And Psi, i'm allready spending some good money on the wife for the holidays, taking here to a amusement park that we both love for New Year's eve and we're spending what is left of the night in a very nice 4 star hotel

So she will be very happy

Considering this a nice wrape up of the subject, i once more will say "Thank you" and happy holiday's everybody!!

    > i'm allready spending some good money on the wife for the holidays, taking here to a amusement park that we both love for New Year's eve and we're spending what is left of the night in a very nice 4 star hotel <

    That's very sweet from you...

*** Wishing you a beautiful holiday season and a new year of peace and happiness. !!! ***

  9.

At this point in time you will be best served by spending the extra money and buying the ASUS GTX 980. You will be happier and you will have a card that will be able to play all the new games for the next 5 years. You can buy one for 500 bucks. That is 100 dollars a year in entertainment costs. That is very cheap! That is like $8.30 a month! hahaha

Here's why: In 2 or 3 years you may need to upgrade other parts of your gaming rig. You just never know what may happen and what may break. What happens if you need a new motherboard? What if you want to play at 4k in 2 or 3 years? I always like to keep my options open. Spending a little extra now can keep you in that pocket of gaming happiness. IMO

Are you talking about the Asus 980 or 980 Ti? Because they have about 150 euro difference in pricing. And there is a limit on my budget

The performance gain is not high enough to justify the extra money and as i said before, i have a wife that needs to agree with me spending on the PC

@Mark5916, unfortunaly i can't find a shop here that can get me that card, so that will be not an option, but thanks for looking into it for me

Hmm, OK. You can get this with a rebate. End price: $429.99 - I thing that's a very good price for an MSI GTX 980

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OD38516?keywords=GTX%20980&qid=1449491197&ref_=sr_1_2&s=pc&sr=1-2

Just thing about it... (it's 90 bucks more (only) than the MSI GTX 970)

  10. Thank you both for your help!

So it seems that i'll go with the 970. The "better" performance from the 980 (Ti) comes also with a bigger price and i have to keep my budget in mind. Spending almost 1000 euro on a graphics card is just too much and will not be appreciated by the misses

But since i still game at 1920 X 1080 i will have a good deal with that 970. As the 960 is just the weakest in the list, i'll skip that one (not wanna buy a new card next year as that would hard to be explain :ohdear:).

    So it's gonna be a 970.

Any suggestions on what manufacturer? I was thinking on MSI since my motherboard is also a MSI. But i'm open for all suggestions

Yes, the MSI GTX 970 is a fantastic GPU. However the fastest GTX 970 that comes near to an GTX 980 is the:

  11. You think it could be the case? I'm kinda hoping something else might be the cause...

I mean, that's last resort in my mind.

I'd rather have to buy new ram or something... (saw one person who changed ram and it fixed it.)

I don't know, have you the suspicion that your comp is infected by a virus?

Can you: Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.?

  12. What the above user stated it's true, and i thing you should take it to your consideration.

If you have in mind to play until 1080p, a GTX 970 is more than enough, even with mods. At 4K things get ugly with an GTX 970.

Even a GTX 980Ti struggles to provide perfectly smooth gameplay at 4K resolutions (3840x2160) and ultra settings on Fallout 4.

Your CPU is fast enough to keep up with the GTX 970. The GTX 960 is a less powerfull GPU, so it's not a wise idea if you wanna keep your GPU for the next couple of years.

The 980 is too expensive, and the Ti version as well. So at the end the GTX 970 is your best shot.

  13. 800W Psu, I got plenty of wiggle room.

As for the bios update, I checked and it seems up to date, I'll poke around for some other possibilities on that. Some things I've seen suggested registry errors, viruses, etc. currently looking at a full reformat, since it seems to be happening with any games. some games just take longer for it to happen, but it has happened on the desktop.

See here: Bug Check 0x3B: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

and here: Bug Check 0xA: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

  14.

We can keep arguing about this back and forth in an attempt to be "more right on the Internet" but the bottom line is that nowhere near sufficient information was provided to have any form of meaningful discussion about this system or Skyrim install ("near 50 mods" could mean anything, no monitor/resolution/settings/etc were specified, the nature of the mods was not specified, etc), and OP has not posted anything in almost a week.

    > but the bottom line is that nowhere near sufficient information was provided <

Yes, of course - ho knows maybe the OP found the culprit of his problem.

  15.

All R9 GPUs are capable for playing Skyrim fluently. (so if you have the R9 270X for example, Skyrim will run at ultra settings easily)

This is a bit optimistic - it will depend on what resolution, IQ-enhancements, mods, etc that you're after. Yes, all R9-series (and honestly all other DirectX 9c compatible GPUs for that matter; this even includes the GeForce 6800 from way back in 2004) are capable of *running* Skyrim, but just running the base game is very different from running the game on Ultra at 4K with ENB and 4K textures everywhere and 5000 additional NPCs added to the game. Without knowing more about the specific problem being encountered it is impossible to speculate as to what is, or is not, going to solve or explain that problem.

    ----------

Well he did not mentioned anything about an ENB preset or 4K gaming...

Even so, without knowing the exact problem, i can't know if his problem is hardware related or (as the OP mentioned) conflictiing mods.
