Long Time Oblivion Fan Wanting to get into Morrowind
JamesTJ replied to Megatarius's topic in Morrowind's Discussion
Hi - if you look on the second page of this section, you'll see a thread titled: "Reinstalling Morrowind" it has some advice you may be interested in that I didn't want to copy and paste again. to answer your other questions: 1. What are the battles like in the game? A: yes, it is much more like a dice roll, and alchemy is one of the things that can heavily afect your chances of hitting and being hit and damage. Luck figures highly in many encounters, from battles to conversations and bargaining. Music - I almost always play with no music at all, so I wouldn't know. 2. What are the clothes like? A: in Morrowind, for a very rare set of encounters it might be better to be naked before initiating conversation if you want a response of anything other than 'get lost'. Other than that, you'll get comments based on how much the NPC likes you. If you install Morrowind Comes Alive and other armor/NPC mods you'll get lots of armor types. Gothic Attire Complete v1-1 will give you a ton of clothing - and you can even find a maid outfit on Wrye's website. 3. Does it level with you? A: not a bit (that I've noticed) so at level one, you can run into level 20+ bad guys, and various mods affect this a lot. -
AzirAphale001 - Thanks! That's good to know - I guess I haven't tried to sell stolen goods to the one I took them from in so long that I never noticed that change. I'll have to check it out. The loot in the Seyda Neen tavern storage area adds a bit to a nice get-started purse, but is too heavy to carry far.

"Anyone know a way to mark these items as _not_ stolen?" No, I don't - I imagine you'd have to open the merchant in the CS and unflag the items. And the situation is worse than you thought - ALL merchants of that type will claim you stole that item from them. eg. if you steal those tempting soulgems from the Mage's Guild in Balmora, you'll never be able to sell any soulgems of the type you stole to ANY Mage's Guild. - ALL of them will claim you stole it. (from them, no less) I find it best (if I want to steal) to only steal from certain merchant types, and only sell to others - it keeps "misunderstandings" to a minimum.

Edit - I'd like to make a minor change in my Epitaph - a friend who read it was confused for a second. James Shadowthief, He obtained insufficiently secured items. We found his head. In the Waterfront cemetery if it still has space.
-
Was reading a bit of history (Venice) -- It had some ideas. 8 - rolls of leather and cloth - the game has thick cow-hide shoes, but no rolls of thick cow-hide, doeskin shoes, but no doeskin leather? 9 - Lumber - straight boards and half-finished furniture, basically a carpentry workshop for all the wooden stuff in the city. the game already has boards, you'd just need to retexture them to look newer. A few doors of different types waiting to be delivered and installed, a few windows, a desk, etc. 10 - small barrels of dye for cloth and leather (setscale 0.5 for small size) 11 - barrels of oil (oiled linen shoes in game) also presumably some oil is used in making the bread 12 - tallow / bees wax for all the candles in the game - barrels marked 'tallow' and 'wax' and crates of candles

Here lies James Shadowthief, He obtained unsecured items. We found his head. In the Waterfront cemetery if it still has space.

You're right, those warehouses are weirdly barren - as if something has severely affected trade in the city. They're more like old cast-off junk rooms than warehouses. Water transport is MUCH cheaper than over-land transport especially for anything heavy - this is still true today, so I really expected those warehouses to be packed with goods. I expected to find: 1 - barrels of food: apples, potatoes, carrots, onions, etc. Crates/sacks of flour and corn. A rack of dried fish 2 - trade goods: armor, farming implements, wool, clothing. 3 - specialty items like alchemical ingredients and a few chests of alchemy equipment shipped in from High Rock. 4 - storage/goods in transit to and from the major shops and inns in the city. (new silverware for the inn in Talos plaza, shipments of beer and wine [in barrels or bottles] to all the inns, iron ingots for the armor/weapons shops, skeins of dyed wool for the clothiers, shipments of new pottery dishes and pewterware) 5 - I was really hoping for some personal delivery items: a new diary for Amantius Alectus along with books for the bookshop, new shoes for Ida Vlinorman, etc. 6 - a guard that had some awareness of his surroundings, and could actually notice the door opening or closing. 7 - notes/bills of sale on or in some of the crates and chests I'd also like to see some shady stuff going on like smuggling of dwemer goods, unworked ebony ore, (too heavy to move, and nearly impossible to sell, but worth HUGE money) and skooma as David Brasher pointed out. You could also have smuggling from other provinces than Morrowind. Other ideas: An illegal distillery in one of the boarded-up warehouses. (you could use some of the hist tree piping and some vats) Maybe find a hidden ledger detailing the smuggling operation, and have the choice of (1) blackmailing the smuggler [with the risk that they'll just hire the Dark Brotherhood to take you out if you get greedy, or a one-time payment/gift from Ocato or the city guard if you turn in the evidence] or (2) you get clues to where the smuggler hides the gold or clues as to who carries what sensitive stuff, and when. Kudos to you for thinking of doing something with the warehouses.

I always play with Morrowind Comes Alive, and I just love stealth hunting the Paladins and their shiny pretty suits of armor as they travel around Vivec.
-
I like the exterior of the Hlallu houses, but the interior of Redoran is more interesting with the curved ceilings and walls. I have usually chosen to play Hlallu, so I guess I'll vote Hlallu.
-
Just make sure to turn TFC off before you fast travel - otherwise you'll wind up thinking: "Where am I? Did I break the game?" when you can hear the IC Marketplace around you, but your screen shows broken scenery.

It seems as if the vote count number is going up, but being added to January's votes? At least it seems so, since the total votes number is higher than a few days ago, but we're still voting on January's files?

What Kinds of Mods do You Love to Download?
JamesTJ replied to David Brasher's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Quests - especially involving new locations. Immersion mods - to make the game seem more real. aaaaaand..... Alchemy. I love Alchemy. I hadn't realized it in real life, but apparently I love to collect bits of this and that and mix them together, because I spend hours doing that in this game, and seem to enjoy nearly every minute of it. For weapons - I like stealth characters, so I usually use bows and short swords. So: my ideal mod would be one that has a quest for a cool bow and short sword in a new location that is difficult to get to, and or confusing and deadly to get around in, with a few new and rare alchemy ingredients. Dunkelholz_Ruestung_und_Waffen http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27223 Andragorns weapons and armors http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26490 REALLY good-looking bows -
